Nexus 9 DID have Slimport IC - Nexus 9 General

Whilst trying to identify the IC's used for LED driver and USB charging I looked at pictures on the FCC test page and a Slimport ANX7812 chip is clearly shown "The ANX7812 is an ultra-low power Full-HD (1080p60) SlimPort transmitter designed for portable devices, such as smartphones, tablets, Ultrabooks, docking stations, sports cameras, camcorders, set top boxes, cradles, and adapters" . This chip is not present in the iFixit teardown at https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+9+Teardown/31425 - Picture opposite "Step 11"
I can't post the direct FCC link. To see the picture got to https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=354162&fcc_id=NM80P82100 and select "Internal Photos" this opens a pdf and the picture above "Page 14" (physical page 8) is the one to zoom in on (RH edge just above centre)

According to this, our kernel supports it and already has it enabled:
https://android.googlesource.com/de...el/+/7e974eac0fff60a8e6f81b7f4a48e8e60f666b72
I wonder why its not working. Maybe it can be enabled with a custom ROM.

Hahaha, lack of coffee at work here.
So this is an example of HTC/Google cheaping out on the nexus 9.

Samsung launches official Galaxy S website!

Here the link:
http://galaxys.samsungmobile.com/
You can view the specifications and the user guide.
There the outside of the phone is explained -> no LED flash light.
hehe i love the website and the "video" nicely done!
Has anyone seen a link for a downloadable version of the Manual?
According to the spec sheet on the website, as well as DIVX and XVID the Galaxy will be able to play back h264 files in the MKV container! To the best of my knowledge, this is an absolute first for a mobile phone. As someone who watches a lot of video whilst travelling, this is fantastic news.
this will be definitely my next phone! Even if it has no flash light for the camera, but it's not an important fact for me...
And when that thing gets (hopefully) rooted, I will get rid of TouchWiz UI ;D

I can confirm: this works great! Though the tested file had variable bitrate up to 5 MBit/s and that was a bit too much for the Galaxy S. The video was played back without complaint, but it skipped frames, sometimes less, somtimes more. Still amazing. Another 720p file in an MP4-Container and fixed 1MBit video rate was flawless and stunning to watch.
The sound is also great. This tiny speaker is loud enough and not at all squeaky. Headphones still prefered, of course.

I believe this is what you're looking for?
Hasn't anybody noticed that it will ship with Flash Lite in the browser? I know it's not full Flash 10.1 like with Froyo, but still is better than nothing.
Also, reading the user manual I spotted a really interesting website: samsungdive.com
It seems that you can configure the phone to alert you when the SIM card changes, or locate the phone if you lost it, very similar to the wavesecure app. I don't know if this was available to previous samsung phones, but it seems a pretty cool addition to android, don't you think?
I'm loving even more this phone!
sounds like a pretty cool feature
It just gets better and better.
The manual also reveals that there is a TV out feature. Only PAL/NTSC via headphone jack, but better than nothing. And we still have AllShare.
Wow TV Out, I didn't spot that the first time. It's nice to be able to just plug the cable to the TV, as mine is a bit old and doesn't seem to have DLNA.
Anybody knows if you can output HD video through the headphone jack, or just standard definition?
Like I said, PAL/NTSC, which are the trusty old standard definition TV formats. The quality won't be very good also, because it is a composite signal.
Devices capable of DLNA, like media streaming boxes, are getting ever cheaper, though.
It mentions an 'optional multifunction cable' for TV out.
Erm... it seems we are not reading the same manual there. The only thing multifunctuinal in the manual is the "multifunctional jack", which is just the USB port.

Yes, the multifunction connector is a USB port, I don't deny that.
What I am saying is first on page 88 item 5 it says:-
"Ensure that the TV is on and connect your device to the
TV with a TV out cable".
The later on the following page which is page 89 item 3 of the manual it says:-
"Using an optional PC data cable, connect the multifunction jack on your device to a PC with Windows Media Player installed."
Correct, and the next step on that list is "synchronize music files". Now what have these points in common? Nothing at all.
The TV out function clearly describes the format (PAL/NTSC) and the connector (A/V, which means composite). That is an analogue connection, which is provided on the analogue headphone jack.
Does the galaxy s support x264?
Oh come on! Didn't you even read the tiniest fact sheet?

Hello all,
Managed to find part of the R800 series service manuals.
Contained in zip is:
R800_Component Replacement.pdf
R800_schematics.pdf
Hopefully we can dig up whats missing
I see FM support,
a nfc board that's not connected,
and the menu button on the gamepad was supposed to be a psn button.
The gamepad has an unconnected chip for keyboard background lighting.
An unconnected chip for analog video out.
Those are things that caught my attention.

I took a look at it, again...
And PM8058 got my attention... take a look:
https://www.codeaurora.org/gitweb/q...it;h=91a09b2950d38cd2fdd4461fc2341bad703e18c0
NFC is a small module in PM8058 chip, and its driver is a sub device of pmic8058 core driver. Adding this sub device field to make it work.

This driver is made specifically for MSM7X30, PM8058.
After googling, I found that PM8058 is a multi-purpose chip. Bluetooth, PWM, etc...
However, I can't find PM8058 datasheet. Can anyone get me that?
Update: pmic8058-nfc source is present in SE's kernel source.
Now, I need datasheet to find out what's the actual purpose of B15 pin (labeled as NFC_EXT_EN).
Update 2: NFC_EXT_EN stands for something like "external enabling of NFC". It's not connected so we can't turn it on via SW, unless the driver monitors NFC_EXT_EN and acts according to it's state, so we could just bypass that monitoring and keep it always enabled (simplest way of enabling).
From what I found out pm8058 is powermanagement. It has capability of controlling power to an external nfc chip, but that's all. Just powermanagement. Not nfc in itself.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
You're right... no NFC chip in our phones...
But what about FM? Some pins are connected, some are not...
Not sure if there is a chip, but I can say that this chip is only for powrmanagement to control the power of any other external chips. That some FM connectors are connected probably mean that SE is using this to control some other device
please need component placement part of service manuale

[Q] Preferred Wireless Display Adapter?

I recently upgraded my Nexus 7 and saw this in the "What's New" section:
Share what’s on your phone on the big screen.
Android 4.2 allows devices to enable wireless display. You can share movies, YouTube videos, and anything that’s on your screen on an HDTV. Just connect a wireless display adapter to any HDMI-enabled TV to mirror what’s on your screen quickly and easily.

I immediately went to Amazon and looked for different "wireless display adapters" per the announcement above, but I'm totally in the dark to which are going to be compatible with the Nexus 7. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Also, will I be able to connect to my Wi-Fi and still have an internet connection? I'm assuming I will be able to and it's more like they're all networked together (Computer, Display Adapter, Nexus 7, etc.), correct?
Lastly, I don't believe I noticed a new app on my phone to facilitate the connection once the Wireless Display Adapter is purchased and connected; am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for all of your help, you guys are the best!

I have scoured the internet for days and days trying to find the solution to not having hdmi capability and hopefully I'm on the right path. The wireless way sounds like it will be the only possibility so I was reading an article on engadget . Unfortunately I'm unable to post a link to it on here. But if you search nexus 7 WiFi media you will find the article I am referring to.
Any of you more intelligent people have any comments, sounds like a 100 dollar solution. Thanks

That's not screen mirroring. It's just DLNA/UPNP. And there are better and cheaper solutions. First look if your TV already supports DLNA/UPNP. If not, get yourself a raspberry pi and install raspbmc, openelec or any other distro that gives you XBMC. Then just enable it in the XBMC settings and get yourself a xbmc remote and a UPNP/DLNA app like bubbleupnp. That way you can even watch nearly any media you want on your big screen including avi(enable unsupportet mime types in bubbleupnp settings) and youtube videos(in the youtube app just press share and then share it via your xbmc remote).
But it is still no screen mirroring like miracast. I still have hope for miracast on the n7, since MIRACAST DOES NOT NEED 802.11a it is only optional for better performance in some situations.
And if that doesn't work, there is always the amazing open source community. Android Transporter just needs to be implemented into Cyanogenmod and given sound support and we don't need to wait for the big players to implement miracast on our n7.
Look at what asus has to say.

Asus T100 hardware tear down

Since I can't post anywhere else for some reason, here goes my hardware tear down for the Asus T100 (T100TA for experts ):
Visible chips on the T100TA mainboard Rev 2.0:
Amtel MXT1664TXES-C2U 1330B TW QLG9F (Touchscreen controls)
Broadcom BCM43241SFKFFBG TN1322 P24 294688 P3T (WiFi)
Phison PS2251-68-5 UO1329C D75J0.11AA (USB3.0 controller)
Realtek ALC5642 D2L87HI GD13F (Audio)
Winbond 250(Q)64FW1G 1329 6236 QP30003 (BIOS/UEFI)
Intel Q326A657 SR1M5 02962 '12 (the main cpu Z3740)
M F20 P02 CFQ0589 (No idea)
ITE IT8568VG 1331-AXO ZC0P1A (No idea)
SANDISK 9.15 XC4*00 SanDisk32G (The eMMC storage unit, 32GB version)
Camera module:
HannStar J 94V-0 E89382 1335 MV-4
Unnused connector J601 can be found on the camera module. Seems to be an USB connector.
Pictures of the hardware/inside: [NOT ALLOWED]
Got the hi-res versions stored locally, can't find a good place that doesn't rape the resolution / jpeg compression rate. Now, I was thinking the Winbond chip is most likely the PLL, isn't it? Should open the doors for some FSB tweaking. Another thing I couldn't find was the recovery USB storage... 7GB according to the hardware manager of Windows 8.1 . Unfortunately it uses 'current read-only state: true' which makes it impossible to use it as extra storage (try it with diskpart for yourselves).
Also, for other Dutch users, this is my main Dutch thread on Tweakers: [NOT ALLOWED].
If people can help out with identifying the chips / giving additional information it would be greatly appreciated
thanks for the teardown...

I used some tools that were leftovers of my HTC Leo / HD2 days. Pretty much a guitar pick, but it might be a little thinner. I recommend starting on top, it goes the easiest loose there. The screen side is hooked to the backside, so best to pull the backplate a little outwards when removing, it will snap the hooks loose. For the dock, I will upload hires pictures soon of its contents, I did pull it apart before but my phone doesn't make great photos: imgur dot com slash a slash NQdTb http://imgur.com/a/NQdTb

Its a Sandisk SEM64G or 32G if you have the 32gb. Just reflashed mine from the stock bios to 220 and now everything is working great and no more bsod while using adobe flash or gaming in d3d. Thanks for those pictures they have saved me the hassle of looking to see if a ram upgrade to 4gb is possible and its not. I think so. They could have soldered it to the board though... I haven't seen a teardown of a 500GB model, would love to see what is inside too! Maybe it can even help us Europeans to mod ours to have the same capabilities :good:.
Anyone know where the WiFi antenna is?
I'm really impressed with how well this tablet hold on to my WiFi signal across the road. I have a Yagi and a panel antenna beaming through tree branches, a balcony and a brick wall. Despite all this it doesn't seem to struggle to hold on any worse than my laptop did which had two antenna. You would think this low power chip would perform much much worse.
Even speed wise considering this doesn't have MIMO so the link speed is down from 150Mbit to 64Mbit, real-world speed is not as much of a reduction as I thought it might be when I realised it didn't do MIMO.
I have even seen this thing get 20Mbit across the road where my laptop used to peak around 30Mbit, although on average I get nearer 5Mbit now whereas the laptop did 10-20Mbit more frequently.
I did try an external mini USB adapter on the T100, didn't work any better even though THAT was linked at 150Mbit and the built-in only does 64MBit.
As for the HDD model, I read on another forum that its definitely in the keyboard and a different board to the normal one. Its interesting though, makes you wonder if it uses a hub or are there actually spare connectors on the dock?
What I personally would like is a dock adapter you can use while still in tablet mode that just adds the USB 3.0 port. If we are REALLY lucky maybe someone will trace the dock connector?
Any hint of a connector for the HD in the dock?
Thanks for the teardown info. As far as I've found these are the only ones on the web so far.
Its hard for me to see from the pictures. Did you see any hint of what/where the HD would connect in the dock?

The HDD dock keyboard has a different PCB to the normal keyboard. Below is the normal one taken from http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/asus-transformer-book-t100/39507-inside-t100-base.html:
What I'm curious about is if the whole dock runs off a single USB 3.0 port or does the dock connector have several ports?
It would seem unlikely that its run off a hub as many USB 3.0 devices have issues if not run directly from a native port and I notice my USB 3.0 HDD works fine.

I took a look on mine and windows doesn’t show any USB 3 hub between my USB 3 thumb drive and the Root Hub, so I’d say there isn’t a hub there. I also did a little digging to make sure there wasn’t an embedded hub in there which might show up differently. I looked at the xHCI extended capability values and the host controller is advertising 6 USB 2 ports and 1 USB 3 port. That makes me even more curious what protocol will be used to connect to the HD in the dock. Hope it’s not USB 2.0.
If you go into windows device manager, go to the view menu and change it to "view by connection" you can then browse the device tree in a hierarchical way that will show you what is connected to what.
In Windows 8/8.1, if you find your external HD in device manager BEFORE you switch to “View by Connection” then when you switch the tree will automatically expand to show it. Under the xHCI controller there will always be a Root Hub listed. If you HD shows connected directly to that then there is no hub.

E-257AGNR Android 4.1 Double DIN Head Unit

Some of the other threads have become quite a mess. I want to start this one, pertaining specifically to this device.
Here is a link to the device on AliExpress:
aliexpress[dot]om/item/2-din-Android-4-1-car-pc-built-in-car-DVD-GPS-Wifi-Bluetooth-Dual-core/1505304660.html[/url]
These are the specs listed:
1.OS: Android 4.1.1 system
2.CPU: Dual Core 1GHz (whatever that means)
3.Memory: 1GB DDR3
4.Nand Flash :8GB
5.USB 2.0 OTG,HOST interface
I purchased this device today, and will update this thread upon it's arrival. I plan on installing it in my 2004 STI and running TorquePro gauges through a USB ELM257 OBDII cable I already own.
I purchased this device because it's apparently dual core and relatively cheap. I also like the button layout on this unit more than any of the other ones. In the description it claims to have a capacitive touch screen and OBD support built in.
Love to know how this works out for ya!
It''s the same as the unit I have - meaning hardware and software, just a different face
Looking at the listing, I think they have the wrong pictures as the buttons are slightly different compared to the one Peter Chan showed me, but we will see when your unit arrives.
This is the thread with relevant information, I agree that other threads are a mess so I have tried to keep the main post updated with important information. There is also a Wiki page.

KID52, I really impressed with your knowledge and understanding this products in good details. Thanks for all your sharing and input, its really useful for me in helping to make decision on which product and which shops to purchase, as i have been looking around for few days.
Back to this topic by mcskeezy, have you received the unit yet? i am also inquiring with the seller "EDO on the same product, because same reason as yours, i prefer the buttons layout, i am right hand driver country.
i am actually asking seller to send me a real picture thru chat in aliexpress, the seller is really helpful, and provided many details. So far the details seem like the unit is like the Peter Chan unit, except the face is different like KID52 mentioned. I ask seller is this unit rootable, he mentioned YES. KID52 - would u be able to comment this can be rooted as well?
I attached here the the real picture the seller just send me :

If you take a look at the thread I linked, there is a root guide.
I would interested to know what the seller's instructions are for rooting it though. Perhaps you can ask them for how to root it?

yes, i have ask the seller to provide, he said he will send me the procedure via email after checking with his engineer, he is not familier but he know it can be done. i will share in this forum once i received the procedure.
I found some unit having a slightly different CPU. Could you comment on this : ?
Freescale MX535D vs CPU MST786
Both are having Dual Core Cortex A9
---------- Post added at 03:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:00 PM ----------
More details.. i have been chatting with the seller, again i like to mentioned this seller is very responsive and helpful, answer all my specific questions in great details. Though he is from China Mandarin speaking native, but responses in English is clear and concise.
The back of the unit actually has 2 Female USB, so you could potentially connect a WIFI and 3G dongle at the same time, no USB hub needed.
He will provide root procedure once he has it from his engineer. I have not even order this unit yet !, that why i mentioned he is very helpful.
He even recorded a video in real time and send it to me, i am sharing this video in attachment.
He mentioned majority of these units are having same hardware and software, the variations are at the panel or face plate, so that why we see many different panel or face plate around. But underlying hardware, software, are from same manufacturer.
So i believe i might be pulling the trigger very soon on this unit. In my opinion the video is excellent, i mean the unit. As good as the perter chan video posting.
I think i could not attach video, its 200 MB big. oh this forum even prevented me to provide a link here

The Freescale MX535D came with the older 2.3 units, I think the sellers just did not update the listing. Some listings also state 1.2GHz instead of 1GHz, but really they all seem to come with 1GHz CPUs. Again, pretty much all of this has been discussed in the thread I linked to. It seems fairly pointless having this thread when the hardware and software is the same, just the face is different.
It's odd that unit has 2 USB ports on the rear, I would be interested to know where they are connected to, I thought maybe it didn't have the one on the front, but it does. I've opened up my unit, but cannot see where another USB port would connect to directly.
You can upload the video to YouTube.

Isnt the statusbar icon beside the GPS indicator in the second pic you posted the usb debugging icon in Jelly Bean? Maybe this one isnt locked down as badly....
Unit Received
The unit came in the mail today. I've only had time to unbox it, hook it up to a spare 12V adapter I had lying around and test it out.
The touchscreen is miles beyond the previous model I ordered. It is easily on par with any generic tablet/phone. I've included some photos. The unit backplate does have two female USB ports (on cable extenders). One is labeled "USB" while the other is labeled "3G/WIFI". I'm looking forward to getting more acquainted with this thing once I have some free time.
I accidentally deleted the stock button mappings and then did a factory reset. The normal bluetooth settings are not visible as of yet. Once I've got it rooted I'll be trying to run gauges through Torque pro using either a bluetooth or a wired ELM257 OBDII adapter. I'm leaning more towards the wired version as those bluetooth adapters draw a fair bit of power while the car is off. I've attached some photos.
If anybody had a screenshot of the default button maps on this thing I"d appreciate it.

You'll need at least 10 posts registered before you can post clickable URL links. You can surround the link with an underscores (_) to bypass the URL parser of this forum. For example, _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX3MuMqBMfw_ is enough to let most people know that they can copy and paste your link in to the browser's address bar.
If you want to embed a YouTube video in your post then you don't even need use whole URL but the video id within the [YOUTUBE] tags.

Unit works with USB OBDII ELM357 Adapter
So I went ahead and tried the most obvious thing:
1. Installed Torque Pro from the Play store.
2. Plugged in my OBDII adapter to the back USB port on the unit.
3. Set the max baud rate in torque.
4. Voila, unit recognizes the adapter w/o any problems. Shows RMPs, boost, coolant temp, etc.
Attached are a few more pictures... I'll post a link the the OBDII adapter I used. I would highly recommend this method over using a Bluetooth OBDII adapter, much less hassle.
Unfortunately, I had planned on using Subsonic Music streamer to stream my music from my desktop (over wifi tethering to my phone), but it says in the app store that the App is not supported on this device. Not sure why...

Are you able to confirm if the hardware is the same as the 4.1 unit in the thread I linked to? If so, I would advise posting in there from this point forward to keep everything in one place. No need for a separate thread just because the face is different
One way to tell would be to compare the output of the System Info app, instructions below. In fact, the part about a picture of the homescreen would also be relevant if possible.

Also, for completeness, a log from the System Info app if you can (need to download from market, it is free). You can do that by clicking on System, menu, then export system info.
On top of that, if it's not too much trouble, a photo/screenshot of the default homescreen. I am curious to know if different sellers customize this at all. Roadmaster claim to do so, but so far I have only seen two different styles of homescreens. One that has four large buttons per page, which is present in the older system versions, and the newer one that is a bit more standard having four app icons at the bottom (which cannot be changed), and the rest of the screen left for your own widgets and icons.

This is the same thing with a lot of Chinese headunits. The issue is that the device's fingerprint is not officially supported by Google Play. So, there will be various filters, like Copy Protection, that prevent you to install or even list certain programs from Google Play directly. The easiest way around this is to use another Android Phone or Tablet and to download and install the APK to it then copy it over manually to the head unit to install it. You can use a program like ES File Explorer to click on the APK's icon to initiate the install.
Otherwise, if you do not have another Android device then you'll need to use a combination of Market Helper and AppBrain in order to find and install apps from Google Play. It is sort of a hack but it works.

Torque Pro OBDII via USB to Headunit is My Holy Grail - How is it working?
Can you use Torque Pro via OBDII to USB Headunit without ever connecting a smartphone?
Or is the use of Torque Pro smartphone dependent?

I received my unit today, and i am sure my unit is the same on that mcskeezy is having, as the picture and description are similar. Indeed 2 USB female at the rear, one saying USB, the other WIFI/3G. I am wondering how you power up the unit at home, i wanted to try in out at home but i don't have a computer PSU lying around, would it be safe to use a AC/DC adapter to power the head unit up? Let me also upload some pics
same system info?

if i could power this toy up, i will confirm the system info right away, and would be able to bring this unit discussion to your another tread, just need to confirm its a same system but different face unit, i can see the rear of the unit is also another different with an additional USB female.
Still searching on good way to power this unit up without the PSU or battery method.

If the hardware is the same (which I am fairly certain it is), then the other thread I mentioned contains details of a USB OBDII adapter than works with Torque on this unit, amongst a lot of other valuable information too.

E350 - how can i be pressure by the torque pro stuff, this project is initiated by our fellow member who started this tread. it only caught my attention because the model of this unit it the one that i am setting my eye on to buy, and i have already bought and landed today. So i believe you mean that you are waiting patiently for his post on his assessment of this unit.
my main pressure now is to figure out how to power up this toy outside of my car.
