Hello. I have a Samsung s4 i9505.
I changed over the Lcd screen and digitizer.
Now my WiFi is working but the range is very poor. About half of my other Samsung devices. Before I changed the screen it would work in the lounge room. Now connection times out or fails to get an IP address via WiFi.
I'm pretty sure it isn't the router.
I've tried reflashing the stock rom both 4..4.4 and 5.0, with Australian rom.
Now the WiFi comes up, will work within a close range and full speed but from a normal distance is not working.
I've opened it up and everything seems connected and intact?
Is it worth getting a new WiFi antenna? Or may I have damaged the motherboard.
Any suggestions appericated, I'm going mad.... Lol

Did you fix the lcd and the digitizer by your own? Or did you go to the official service of samsung?
I did it myself. Have done it before on the same phone with no issues.
U must raise all gold spring. To makr better connection to the antenna

You have exactly the same problem as me. I replaced the screen like you, it's the same problem.
Here's my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/help/i9505-slow-wifi-router-t3076105

Hi, My O2 Exec has problems with the WIFI connection, no matter where I go, if O2 Exec isn't really near the access point, will not detec or connect to the wireless network.
when I say near, is around 1 meter from the access point antenna, if I go more tham 3 meters, goes almot 100% oofline and 4 meters even detect. It happens at home and at work, in both locations my laptop works fine 40m from the access point and my nokia 9500 (cel I used to have) goes 30m, I've made this tests of distance today.
So... seems to be on My O2Exec the problem... ... I think started when I upgraded the ROM to latest build available at my-xda.
Please, any clue? I already changed performance/battery from the control panel/wireless and even reset many times, updated the rom again.. no clue at all...
HELP!!!!
Problem SOLVED - My O2 EXEC was WITHOUT WIFI ANTENNA!!!!
Hi, I discovered my O2 Exec came without WIFIAntenna... so... I've build one, is working very nice now, range better than Nokia 9500... I got the answers thru a picture of a O2Exec open showing all Antenna conectors...
Mine didn't got the antenna or any screw... impressi, I've build one very simply and is working in a fantastic way... TEARS!!!!!!
That is a nice bit of work, if it was a fault like that they should have replaced your device. Only problem there is that you had to void your warranty to find out that the device had not been propperly assembled... Amazing!
Benchmark - better signal than original
Hi, now I updated the antenna, with more one piece of metal, used to buld antennas.
The signal is 25% better than original antenna.
TEARS!!!!
Regards,
Franco
Would you mind sharing a few pics of your antenna, or the link to where you saw the antenna connections? I saw your picture, but it so close I don't recognize anything on it.
oh, and BTW....
THANKS!
My wifi has been working great up until today. For some reason it's really weak. The only way I can get a signal is to literally put my phone inches away from my router. It won't see any hotspot more than a feet away. Anyone know what's wrong?

There's a setting for the wifi power, I would check that first to see if it's gotten moved:
settings -> all settings -> connections -> wifi -> Advanced -> Power Mode Tab
"Best Battery" end of the slider uses the least power, but can make it darn near impossible to get or maintain a connection.
I've got the same problem, and did the Best Performance, but no change. Any one has a clue?
same thing here. My school has wifi everywhere and when im in class i get like 1 bar of connection compared to everyone else who gets way better connection then i do
seems like everyone is having this problem recently. i had it and had to send it it to HTC, from what i understand its because the bluetooth/wifi antenna is loose. some guy in another thread opened his up and pushed down the antenna connections and was fine.

yea im not comfortable with opening this phone up.
not worth it
at home its fine but at school it sucks
oh well
This is my only gripe with the new ROM.
WIFI is TERRIBLE!
As for the Coax being loose, I would consider that an anomoly.
I had perfect WIFI access before the new ROM and I kind of doubt flashing to a new ROM zapped my cables out of place!

Connector do come loose. My wifi was fine and I started to have very low stength. Did everything but nothing worked. See my ordeals:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828036
Finally opened up the unit and snapped connectors to their places. It is fine now. See my post #4 in the above thread.
Yes, you will void your warranty, so do this at your own risk.
Ok
so for the last couple of days I've noticed that when at home, if I turn on the HD2's Wifi, my entire home network stops working. The router can no longer be accessed, even by wired Ethernet.
I figure it was a router issue, so I bought a newer better one by a different company - and what do you know: The same problem persists! As soon as I enable WiFi in my HD2 the router becomes unaccessible - and as I turn it off, all is well again.
I'm a computer technician, an MCSA and usually pretty good with those things, yet this issue baffles me. What on earth could cause that?
No other WIFI devices cause this issue, only my HD2.

What is the radio firmware version on the phone and what is the make, model and firmware revision of the router.
2 IT engineers are always better the one
My older router (with same problem) was 3Com 3CRWER200-75.
I replaced it with an Edimax BR-6524N. Same weird issue.
Both have latest firmwares.
My phone radio version... To be honst, I don't know how to check. My ROM version is 1.48.405.2 (71294) WWE - which is the stock rom of the Israeli version as supplied by Newpan.
Also worth mentioning, this didn't happen until a couple of days ago. Everyting was fine for months with the same exact configuration. SOMETHING must've changed, but what?
And how is it possible for my phone to kill two different routers?
I have the same problem with my laptop when running windows 7 but not linux....seems too me at least my problem is a driver issue.could be the damned for you too possibly. Was there a possible divert update on your phone?
I do not have an hd2 so I am not sure.
Edited for auto correct mistake

You check your phone radio revision the same way you check your rom version. Go to settings, about phone, software information and look for the line "radio version".
Your actual rom version is quiet old and if you are still using a stock rom then you may want to have a look at the htc website for your country and see if you can get 1.66 rom or newer.
I personally have never experienced this problem but i always use linksys or netgear networking equipment. The linksys router i have at home i've had for many years (it's a wrt54g v2.0) and it still works perfectly even though it's cpu and networking chipsets are overclocked and it runs a custom firmware.
Well, the ROM is the latest available for my country :-(
But anyway, I managed to solve it by deleted all my wireless preferences and just 'rediscovering' my home network from scratch. Surprisingly that worked and solved the problem, even on my old router.
Now I'm wondering if I should return the new one and stick to my trust good old one, or stick with the new one? It was pretty expensive, and I don't really use an N wireless connection anywhere anyway, so... What do you think, XDA?

You have no need for it, get your money back.
the hd2 is capable of N speeds. You just need to enable it in the registry. Personally i would use the old one till it dies and keep the newer one in a box till then but the choice is yours
The newer one is a lot of money I spent for something I didn't even need eventually. I'll be turning it back, I think.
Thanks to all who helped You guys rock!

great to hear that you've found a solution!
A thought came to mind while reading this thread.
Wonder if it's possible that a certain radio file/setting on your HD2 might've been corrupted and instead of generating the usual wifi signal, it could've generated a signal on the same frequency that completely jammed you're router signal?
Similar to the radio jammer units available in some countries that can be used for GSM, Wifi, etc... just a thought!
Im glad you brought this up because I had the exact same problem (accept I could connect via ethernet just wifi went dead), almost brought a new router after spending 2 days trying to set it up :/ It wouldnt allow anything to see the router wifi wise let alone connect to it via wifi. I havent turned my wifi on the phone since then but ill try reseting my settings later to see if that works. I didnt wanna risk screwing the router over lol. Im on stock 1.48 rom and radio on o2 as well

That's an interesting thought, and if it's true - reversing it could be a tool for evil - just imagine being able to shut down networks just like that...
Anyway, I'm glad my issue was solved. That Edimax N router is really expensive, and I like my trusty old 3Com way better.
My N*kia n95 used to f*ck up the router like this sometimes
So, suddenly my WiFi doesnt work. Either says "Authentication problem" or connects but doesnt download anything.
Tried it on several networks with the same result.
I've done a factory reset, flashed lollipop same result. Flashed kitkat again, and same thing. Also put CM 12.1 as a last resort and still no luck.
So am I right in concluding that it is a hardware issue? Or is there anything else I could try?
Thanks in advance!
Does this happen with WEP, WPA, WPA2, and unsecured networks?
Sounds like you have tried everything I would.

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried it on WPA, WPA2 and unsecured public hotspots.
I took it to the service center and they said the WiFi ICU is gone. A replacement of the component (I presume the entire circuit board would have to be replaced) would cost a little over 100USD and could take a week. I dont have a week since I'm travelling in a few days so I'll have to buy a new phone
Wow, that's expensive. Try and find another phone with a smashed screen and swap out the parts? This is what I had to do for a Samsung Note 2, Nexus 5, and Samsung s3 with damaged internals.

Thanks for the suggestion. However I travel soon and can't risk the repair duration. So ended up buying another phone . This time with extended warranty
Hi all,
I've been having kind of a strange issue with my Galaxy S4 SGH-1337M. I'll start off with a bit of background info. A few weeks ago my phone started having problems charging, so I replaced the charging port last week. Shortly after replacing the charging port, my S4 started having problems connecting to WiFi and Bluetooth. It's a little odd though. It still connects to WiFi networks occasionally, but when it does, its an extremely weak connection and drops almost immediately. It's the same story with the Bluetooth. It connects fine, but music playback stutters with speakers and my car's stereo. I've already taken it apart again to see if anything looks damaged or if the WiFi antenna was disconnected, but everything looked normal to me. My device is running Android version 5.0.1 and isn't rooted. I really don't know what's going on, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
u can go heare ==> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50787570&postcount=2549 . See how to flash your modem, but first you need to know your modem's version ( ie : I337MVLUGOC4 or higher...) to do so, go to your dialer and type : *#1234# your modem version is called CP, google it, download it , flash it with odin, reboot and see if it's working.
If the wifi started after changing the charging port, it could be a loose connection somewhere or there is something wrong with the replacement charging cable.

I actually tried the old charging port to see if the issue was with the new component, but I still had the same problem with the old connector. I've checked all of the connections and everything, at least to my eyes, appears to be connected securely.
It's not uncommon for the wifi chip on the s4 to stop working. I have two motherboards sitting here that work perfectly except the wifi.

There may still be hope. Where did you get the replacement USB flex cable for the phone? I still say it could be the cable if the replacement was not oem.

I bought the USB port on eBay. The description claimed that it was OEM, but I don't think I would know otherwise. Like I said though, I have already eliminated the new flex cable as the culprit becasue when I reinstalled the old flex cable, the WiFi and Bluetooth were still broken.
The phone has the correct imei? If it does, then the wifi chip is probably defective.
