It seems like trusted locations don't work for some people. I have found a workaround, and it works in two different locations that I tried.
Add a new trusted location, but instead of picking a suggested by maps address, move the location pointer on maps to somewhere very near your location that gives gps coordinates instead of an address. A new trusted location with gps coordinates should work now.

This did not work for me. It was weird, my first trusted location worked great but my second one was actually my home location and I have tried dropping the pin everywhere around my house and it refuses to work. I am fixing to try it at work to see if that will work.
Yes I noticed this bug as well. I added "Home" which took from maps, but once I just added a new location (I didn't have to move the pin anywhere) while at home, it started working just fine.

Try a pick a different location right next to where the map says you are. The instructions for Smart Lock says that it has to be within 80 feet of your actual location.

Make sure that it sticks after a reboot. I had some problems with that when using addresses instead of gps coords.
Pretty lame, Milhouse. All the delay in getting Lollipop out and a major feature like this doesn't work?
When I turned on Smart Lock it already showed my house as a trusted location. When I tried to add a second pin at home it showed the map of my house with a circle around the whole properly and said "this place is already trusted". So it obviously knows that I am home. Location is in high accuracy mode as it suggested. Yet when I power off the screen and back on it still wants my fingerprint each time.

Tried that multiple times. It's weird, it works at every location I've set except home or around my home.
So now I have it working... here is what I did:
1) Turn off the default "Home" value it had for me
2) Add a new pin here at my house, showed the GPS coords on the map, etc
3) Waited a little bit and it started to work
The waiting part was key, as it did not start working immediately after setting it up. I thought perhaps this was the original problem so I removed my new pin and re-enabled the original home and then once again waited. This time it never started working. So I reverted all the steps and waited a bit more and it's working now with my new pin and the original home disabled.
Once I added a second location and let G Maps find me (which happens to be the exact spot I typed in under Home) it's now working. Go figure. Not sure if I should go back and delete the other location or not. If it isn't affecting battery, I see no point.
I've added a second location near home from Google Maps and, for the time being at least, it's working.
Now that it's working, I went ahead and removed the second location that I created and it still works fine back on the original address I used to set it up. Odd.
And now today I wake up and it's not working. Location still enabled, even tried rebooting the phone. Just doesn't work. Quite frustrating.
Funny thing is on my wifes note4 it was the exact opposite to get it working. It first selected gps coordinates and that didnt work so i had it suggest an actual address and it worked.

I did that also. And it didn't work. But then it started working! Tomorrow is another day. ?
the best work work around for me was to add the houses to the left and right of my house.. once i did that and had 3 locations including mine it worked perfect

Sound like you had to cover a much larger area than an 80-foot radius.
Perhaps the Google bug is in that it cannot get a good location lock on our current location.

For me, my GPS problems have been mostly fixed with the latest firmware.. however the lock still takes about 15 seconds.
To enhance (not fix, it's not a fix) this..
Install AnyCut (not in the market for some reason), select "new shortcut" and go down to LbsTestMode.
Open it, select MS-Based mode and back out of it. Don't change anything else as you're liable to make GPS worse.
Now you should get a lock in 1-3 seconds, very quickly. If your phone is not getting a lock disable WiFi.

And much better tracking as well. My Tracks did much better when I turned it off standalone to MS Assisted.

wow. First lock after flash was great, then after the days go it gets worse, basically back to before. Changing this, I opened my front door, pointed the phone out, turned on gps and opened gps test. Instantly like 5 seconds I got 6 satellite locks.
Awesome, obviously will see after a few days how it works. So far that helped alot.
It's never gone to what it was like before (ever) but I've noticed some bugginess with aGPS.
Over WiFi it won't download new information & lock. I've had to disable WiFi for it to lock on a position.
Sometimes when going from 3G to E, it will lose the lock. Is this horrible? No. Can it be corrected? Yes.. can the Vibrant accurately track our location? Yes.
MS-Assisted is only good for stationary locks quick one time fixes but not actual tracking. MS-Based is for tracking..

Could not get a lock on MS Based. It saw 6 sats and they were all at the same position way off the compass on GPS status. Let it run for 10 minutes on 3g and it lost all but 2 sats. Change it back to MS Assisted and I get 10/10. Maybe I need to clear data.
At this point I am pretty sure that the settings in lbstestmode only affect the tests in lbstestmode. All other applications appear to use the settings in gps.conf or somewhere else.
Changing the settings in lbstestmode appears to affect other apps temporarily due to hot start mode but after reset the phones are going back to default anyway.

Well you can test it yourself. It's too soon to say much of anything. It takes time to determine anything with this phone. If nothing changes it will be noted in a day or two when the hot fix is lost.

Yeah it is just plain buggy. Sometimes lbstestmode seems to change gps.conf but not always. The use SSL setting doesn't seem to be changed but sometimes it does change the SUPL host.
Another strange things in test mode is turning on MS Based and then clearing GPS data. Sometimes when I do that and then run the get position test I can see my 3G turns on and it pulls the list of satellites. 10 satellites found in a couple seconds...great. If I then go back and clear the GPS test data again and go back to the same test it sits at zero satellites and never pulls a new list. WTF...completely unpredictable behavior....sigh.
Just drove about 5 miles. Locked instantly and very well.

Searching in internet for the easiest way to fix my gps after updating to DK28...I came across with the following instructions from user WorldWide (pcgeek forum):
"Fixing the GPS no fix issue on the Samsung Epic 4g requires you to do a manufacturer's reset by obtaining the MSL code from Sprint. Once you get the MSL Code, remove the SD Card and Enter ##786# on the dialer keypad. You will see two options: View and Reset. Tap on the Reset option and you will get a prompt to enter the MSL code. At this point you will be asked if you want to do a manufacter's reset, enter yes. The phone will shut down and reset itself after a few seconds. Once the process is complete, the phone will go through a hands free activation. After the activation process, updates may be downloaded and installed. Now that all updates have been performed, you may check to see if your GPS is working by going to Google Maps. You should be able to lock in GPS signal in under 10 seconds. Thats it. Your GPS woes are over."

Strange, I've never had any problems with GPS and dk28.
mine stopped working after updating to DK28 ...but I followed the instructions above and now is fine
Here is my GPS issue
So here is my GPS issue, and I don't recall seeing anyone else have one like it.
I can get a fix SUPER fast, no problem. My phone always seems to know where I am when I need it to, to do a search or whatever. It is accurate too, down to 10's (20-50) of feet indoors, even better outside.
What doesn't work well for me is navigation. Google nav and also sprint nav. I load either one up, select a place to go, and everything seems fine. It starts navigating pretty quickly, because like I said getting a GPS fix almost never takes more than a few seconds on my phone. But after a few minutes of navigation, it stops tracking me. It says GPS signal lost. Then after a short period of time, at least in google navigation, it will zoom out and show me somewhere in the vicinity of where I actually am with a huge blue circle around me. Then it will zoom in more accurately, and finally start navigating again right where I actually am. But eventually it will stop again and go through that whole process. It does this OVER and OVER. I have seen the rare instance where it works fine for the entire trip, but 99% of the time that is not the case.
So my question is, is this a DK28 issue or something? I don't recall seeing this on DI18, but to be honest I was only on DI18 for a very short period of time so maybe I'm wrong about that. Is it a hardware issue?
If I have just google maps open the little blue dot will follow me all over the place and it never seems to have an issue. If I have GPS status open, it never seems to indicate that suddenly it can't see any satellites.
I've used the LBStestmode to check the GPS settings:
Session Type is Tracking
Test Mode is S/W Test
Operation Mode is Standalone
Start Mode is Hot start
GPS Plus is ON
Dynamic Accuracy is ON
Accuracy is 50
GPS Logging is OFF
I changed the SUPL server to supl.google.com and the port to 7276, but no real changes were noticed. SUPL secure socket is OFF, and AGPS mode is SUPL. Server FQDN Type is Custom Config.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm running Nebula ROM 1.0.6, ext4 mod with no journaling.
That is very common. To me and I have seen it hapen to others. It is known that the GPS chip is weak. You obstruct its view by even a mere hand and signal lost. A quick fix is to pull down the notify bar. Toggle the GPS button, andyou are back in business immediately. Oddly enuff, I do not have this problem on ViperROM only.

I've got the same problem. Before I went to DK28 I followed the process of Odin back to DI18 to get GPS lock before upgrading (so as not to take any chances). I didn't have any GPS problems on DK28 with Quantum 2.5 (even on a 20 hour long road trip)
However, after I upgraded to Quantum 2.7 this behavior you described began happening to me. When it loses GPS it tries to approximate your location by network (hence the big blue circle).
I think Dameon indicated he included a "fix" in 2.7 for GPS issues which might cause this behavior. I flashed Bonsai to see if it behaved the same, and it appears to.
OP thanks for sharing. I'll test this tonight when I'm travelling again. I can't reproduce the GPS issues sitting still in my office.
Also, to get your MSL without contacting Sprint go to command line (via ADB shell, Terminal Emulator, ConnectBot:localhost, etc) and type getprop - look for line ril.MSL.
If you search the original issues you will find that only removing the battery will fix the problem. I never noticed the gps cache problem becase I replace my batteries 2-3 times a day.

I had issues with the cache bug on the Eclair builds, but it is no longer present since using the dk17 and dk28 modems.
I tried this just to try it (did a nandroid backup prior) and the phone would NOT activate after this reset.
I had to go back down to 2.1 di18 and it failed the activation as well however, launching the sprint self service right after activated the phone for me.
So... becareful guys when doing this, may not work right for everyone.

Thanks for the warning. However, it worked for me okay.
I just did the reset. It activated for me afterwards. The phone app did FC but after closing it came back up the and activated just fine. Also auto-updated PRL for me! Forced reboot after activation, everything looks good. Restore data, good so far!
I'll try the GPS Nav to see if it drops on the way home tonight.
Actually give credit to the user NYCSUBWAYRAT for this method I just quoted his post on androidcentral. My phone did not self activate the first time I tried it, I went into SprintZone and it activated from there. I tried it again a few days later, and it activated automatically.
Working good so far!

DK28 via Odin sph-d700-dk28-8g-rel.tar.md5
My steps: (I forgot to remove the sd card, but lost no data)
1) Call Sprint and ask for the MSL code
2) Backup everything from ClockworkMod
3) Dial ##786#
4) Choose "Reset"
5) Enter MSL code
Results:
The phone rebooted twice, then updated the PRL.
It tried to update the software but got stuck (I hit the back button to cancel it)
No prompt for activation, as Sprint phone rep had said.
Tested the GPS - rainbows and unicorns everywhere.

Also, you can get MSL code without calling Sprint using ConnectBot (from Market)
Run ConnectBot, in dropdown menu in lower left corner select "Local"
Type in any name in the nickname box
Type "getprop" (no quotations) then hit enter
scroll up in the results (ril.MSL) is the MSL code

Silly question, but you have location services turned on, right? Mine didn't work at first for my home, but after like 15 minutes of just leaving it it seems to work pretty much every time now. probably because I am always on my wifi at home and it's easy to pinpoint my location when on wifi.

Not sure why they didn't add wireless routers as trusted devices, makes your home as a trusted location without using location services (battery drain that serves no master when at home in most cases) and works without fail.

No joy with a Trusted Location here, nor using any of the workarounds. I wonder if the problem is due to the Folio Case, but as I can't get that off, I'm unable to test.

I just got this to work by adding a very specific dropped pinned coordinate next to my home. This was after adding like 10 addresses nearby and pins that all overlapped but none of them worked until this last one. This is now working even with exchange accounts enabled, device only location mode on, and wifi scanning off. Is this really what it takes for every location I hang out at?
Edit: It stopped working again. Now I don't know what to think.
This has been an issue for quite some time. On the Google Product forum this is also highlighted but so far no signification improvements have been seen.
This feature does not work reliably for me.

Me too got about five addresses for my home. Every time it doesn't work I just add the new address it thinks I'm at.
I am sure that I would not even know this except I have the Edge Panel "My Places" which I really like because I can set up a profile for work and have my phone go to vibrate when I pull in the parking lot and can get to the apps easily that I use most.
Well every now and then I have noticed that the profile has switched off of work and to home while I am at work, sitting at my desk and not moving. This has become more frequent in the last week. So when I hear the profile change I have looked at Google Maps and sure enough my GPS lock is showing that I am home. After about 30 seconds this all of the sudden updates back to my work location and the My Places profile updates right away.
I am sure if I did not have the My Places profiles set-up I would never know, but has anyone else ran in to this issue, and if so is there a way to fix this? Thanks
Similar issue here, except mine shows I'm home or wherever my last location was when I had my gps on when I'm trying to check for a route to somewhere, only fix that seems to work is closing and reopening google maps, thought it was a google maps issue, guess not.
This worked perfectly out of the box but recently has stopped working. Not sure if it has to do with the QD9 update or maybe some other crap that installed. I can set the location fine and it clearly shows me inside the boundary but every time I get to the locks screen it still doesn't unlock automatically.
Anyone else have the same issue?

The problem with Trusted Place is that it’s very spotty! It only works for a day or two then fails to unlock the device. I’ve set two different locations, one for home and another using the latitude and longitude location. Only way to get it working is to reboot the device. Regrettably, it only works for a day before reverting back to my lock screen method again.
this not related to the galaxy s8. even my nexuw 6p and pixel. had this problem. it works when u set it up the. it jist stoppwd working after a few days. a restart or setting it uo again does work but same issue will happen next oe a few days after. bluetooth trusted device works but location is a problem. related to nougat.
Yep can agree with everything said here seems to work sometimes then other times not...Also I can't believe that google won't allow your home wifi network to be used as a trusted device.

Another way that does not require to go into recovery mode but seems to fix the problem for shorter time :
* Settings -> Apps -> Google Play Services -> Delete cache
* Reboot
I've also added bunch of points in all corners around my house in the Trusted Places settings
