Been reading a lot about their differences and still can't get a clue as which one to buy. Its been more than a month since S4 is released and generally speaking, I am looking to buy S4 not specifically to use 4G, but for general use, mostly apps, a few games (not a hardcore mobile gamer) and also interesting mods.
The other day I came across a game for android specially mentioning it will work only in Adreno GPU. This quite surprised and confused me as to if in future, apps and games will be customised based on CPU/GPU?
Provided the issues that have been reported, mainly the overheating and battery drain, is it wise to wait for a month or two so that Samsung release a second production batch of S4 with these issues fixed? Or there won't any hardware fixes for S4 anymore?
So which model has a better future? (leaving the 4G part).
Hope I get a reply as I am sure the highly knowledgeable and vast users of this forum can help ease my confusion.

Don't wait for those, the S5 will be out next year!!
Wait for that instead.
Come on this is ridiculous!
The S4 is a great phone, there will always be better phones just around the corner so just go for the S4.
Either version is good. If you need help making up your mind read one of the hundred threads already on xda about this.

Well, I only planning to buy an S4 and only confused due to different models in S4. And if the Snapdragon 800 model is going to be out in say 2 months or less, I guess its worth the wait?
P.S. No time to wait until S5 launches
I just recently got the note 3 and heard this upgrade might be out on the 28th. Been using jelly bean on my s3 and I personally can't wait for this on the note! Anyone have any note 3 specific hopes with this about to be released?

I'm looking forward to possible sms integration in Hangouts. Hoping even more for Google Voice integration in Hangouts.

Hate to be a debbie downer, but unless they've streamlined the upgrade process for phones, we won't be getting 4.4 on the 28th.
I'm very excited for this, this release will end up dictating whether or not I end up getting the note 3. I am here with my GNex and if the note 3 can end up getting 4.4 soon (via custom roms of course) fast ill end up with the note 3. This is all depending on verizon getting the new nexus of course.
I don't think kit kat will be all that significant based on leaked info but I'm still looking forward to it

I would be surprised if we get the 4.4 update that fast. Verizon is always one of the last to get updates for Android. So don't hold your breath.
Well I hope it's just a whole new feel at the very least.

Kit Kat will be released on the 28th... yeah... but then Samsung has to get hold of it and touch wiz the crap out of it... Then verizon has to test and approve... blah blah blah... i would be shocked to see 4.4 OTA on this device this year

Dont forget having to shoe horn in 50lbs of bloat as well!
What are you guys smoking?
Verizon won't let us have KitKat until probably April of next year.
You're better off hoping the bootloader gets unlocked soon so we can put it in ourselves. That's the only way we'll get it any time relatively soon.
We will get KitKat when we have custom ROMs, long before Verizon's OTA.
We will get KitKat when "IF" we have custom ROMs, long before Verizon's OTA.
I'm interested in what Google has in store for us with Kit Kat but I think Android Jelly Bean 4.1 - 4.3 has been awesome. I'm so content with Android 4.3 on my Galaxy Note 3 that I just can't get overly excited.

When. It will happen. It's just been a few days since release. Devs aren't happy with Samsung, so many don't want to mess with it, but either the devs working now will have a breakthrough or another will yawn and make a bootstrap within hours. Not sure if a bootloader unlock will come around without someone getting a leaked unlock key from some Samsung guy in China. It's not about being possible or not, it's about a skilled devs desire to spend time on it.

And this is why I avoided this phone. The Note 3 is hands down the best phone right now but as soon as the software updates roll in from Google you start to think twice (and that's with a fully unlocked bootloader on the Note 2). With all the tweaks and software enhancements it's not an overnight job. By the time my Note 2 gets 4.3, kitkat 4.4 will be about a month or more old.
The bad part about Android is.. You compromise on the software and get the note 3 or you compromise on the hardware and get a nexus device.. no sd, usually poor battery, aging processors the list goes on. Except Google edition s4, HTC one of course

I'm hoping for a stock android experience to finally hit the note 3. Somewhat sick of touchwiz.

Ageing processor? It's got the same as the Note 3.

Well I, for one, am very anxious for the KitKat announcement specifically to see how the rumors play out in terms of Android becoming more modular and bypassing OEM and carrier update schedules. It's sounding like the stock launcher is going to end up in the Play Store, and I've also heard that the notification system could be separated from the Android framework allowing for 3rd party notification bars.
At that point, the only user-facing things left to the OEMs are the phone app and the settings (anything else I'm missing?). That makes me feel much better about my new 2-year contract with VZW.
Also, Hangouts SMS integration can't get here fast enough. Not pleased with Samsung's Messenger app.

Scott (scrosler) had the best Note 2 stock rom by far; tweaked to perfection, stable as hell, and everything just worked great. He's started working on an ATT Note 3 version now, and I couldn't be more excited! Figured other people here would be interested to know what's coming as well!
Can't link to the post, but it's on his forums (google it) saying that he's started work recently.
Can't wait I was running that rom when I had the note 2

Scott (scrosler) did make that CleanRom the best thing that had come out for the Note 2. it was clean simple and easy to install.
I really can not wait until he comes out with one for the Note 3 for AT&T. I now have something great to look forward to hopefully soon when this gets released.
Thread cleaned,
Stay on topic, keep things respectful when you post, or get out...
Final warning in here folks.
I am excited about this news! Been using Scotts rom for a while now

I'm getting my Note 3 on Monday. Even with the S5 coming soon I really miss the functionality of my old Note 2 when I was with Sprint.
I agonized over it but I need my stylus back. I see no reason to wait for the S5 as the size and the stylus and apps is the important thing for me. I got so much use out of that. And this rom was perfect for me so can't wait see it!

I sure hope so. From the reports I'm reading, I don't think I ever want Lollipop on my Note 4 :silly:
I ran it on my nexus 5 for months. Short of the misc battery drain, it was fine. I just want a release to come out so the devs can get ahold of it and work it over. I think it will be just fine.

Snapdragon 805 is a 32-bit processor so it won't matter if they optimize it for 64-bit.

This is amazing and I hope it leaks.
Given the last lollipop drop...I thought we all came to an understanding that tmobile will drop the firmware 4 months AFTER everyone elses drop it? This is just going to create a needless anticipation....and if it drop for international, odds of it being ported to tmobile is slim to none. lol...
I'm certainly not holding my breath this time around. My expectation this time is it'll come when it comes.

Apparently only the international LG G4 has an unlocked bootloader. I was considering this phone, but given the direction Samsung seems to be headed (no expandable storage/ removable battery); not any more.

Same here. I love my Note 4, but thinking of jumping ship at the next nexus release.
I highly doubt they'll remove the micro SD card slot and removable battery. A lot of people in the technology news believe that note will be a pro line for us power users. They're going to keep the S line for the lame end user. Anyway look like the current state of rumors are the note5 is not coming this year and Samsung is going with S6plus variant.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Note 5 is definitely coming this year, the s6 plus could never replace the note line. It will release a month or two before note 5 launch.

Yes, the update maybe 64-bit optimized but 90% of Note 4s have Snapdragon 805 which is only 32-bit and won't be 64-bit, ever. The only 64-bit Note 4 in the world has the Exynos 5433, which wasn't enabled until Lollipop was released.

Guess it should be any day now for the Note 4.
Yea, I was just about to post that. Here we go again with the same ****. As much I I love my N4 the 5.0.1 update, even on custom roms drains the battery faster then 4.4.4. Skipped again and I'm sure it won't be for a while before it comes to the N4. I'll be keeping this phone for 2 years but when it's time to switch I'll be looking at a different company.

I and many others disagree with the [bolded] as in above quote. Personally, due to possibly selecting a good lollipop base, following the instructions, selecting a decent kernel, doing research & setting up the kernel to maximize both performance & battery, along with the addition of a nifty little add-on Mod (found here on XDA) - Lspeed, I am very pleased with Lollipop and won't be looking backwards and look forward to further improvements if that is even possible as again, I am more than satisfied with my current setup. :good::good::good:

I won't argue your opinion as I don't have the facts as to what percentage of Note 4 owners don't understand how to modify their phones.
Actually when I post here on XDA, beings it's a "developers" site with most conversation in relevance to those that do learn and like to root, unlock, Rom, mod, ect... their devices, I guess I assume too much that I am representing my experiences and opinion to a relevant audience.
My apologies if my reply was not appropriate or factual enough. :cyclops:
