Well, nine months ago I got the Galaxy Tab P1010, WiFi model. In this time, I was looking for a cheap tablet, and bought this. Two, three months later I was looking for an update, to Gingerbread (the lastest android in this time, because Samsung said no to honeycomb).
I didn't found. But on semptember, a tweet said that Gingerbread was coming in few weeks, wow, I was very excited, soo I waited... On 15st of octuber, ICS is launched, W-O-W. I was surprised by a very, very, very pretty Android.
In this time I was hoping for Samsung(lol), but, some weeks later, the surprise: Just the dual-core tablet will got.
But, I said: Oh no, but maybe someone on XDA will do this ROM, because the android 4 is open source.
November I installed the gingerbread by SamFirmwares, it was good but ICS is better! So, this time, I went on the forums searching and searching.
On december enough project was lauched, so I start to do a idiot thing: Ask for someone do the ROM, I learned the lesson(uff.).
In january, I saw a topic called for: Cyanongemod 7.2 and 9 for p1010. When I saw I think that was another guy asking if is disponible an update, but, was Motafoca saying that will do this. Wow! I spend months and months being a tester with PSO. It was nice, but who saids that it will be soo hard? Motafoca said that is the most difficult work on develop.
But, all this experience make me fell like a idiot. Why? Because Samsung launched Galaxy Tab 2, for the same price but with dual-core and honeycomb. Just Motafoca is working on this now, and... the question:
Do you, p1010 user, fell this way too?

wow, you seriously just said exactly what i feel since the moment i got my p1010. Samsung doesn't port ics to older devices, it just makes new devices so you HAVE to buy their products! and i really appreciate Motafoca for what he's doing for our near forgotten tab! no matter it's taking this long, but i believe he will give us a working cm7 in a few months! thanks for this thread samcortez!

And no Value Pack for us.
Picked up a Galaxy Tab about 3 weeks ago! But the touch screen started to freeze last night! So got a refund from Asda and just pre ordered a Galaxy Tab 2 from Carphone Warehouse for the same price I paid at Asda!
Even with the New one being released! Would have still been quite happy with the old one, if not for the fault!

I'm happy with my tab too (except for freezing, looks like a phone, lagg of support etc....) but i don't want to buy a new device each time there's an android update, i just want to use 1 device for a long time WITH new firmwares. even the very first android device (i think the htc one) got an update quite fast after the release of ics. and this new tab ran on froyo till just a few weeks ago. im just feeling fooled by samsung by buying this device

Well, i felt this way too after the first two weeks where u get good support from samsung, but after they treat u like dirt. And thats why we came to a much better and faster supporting update platform, called XDA Developers!
I dont give a **** on samsung and its updates, i got two samsung tablets p1000 running aokp #B36 and p6200(7.0 plus) with 3.2 stock.
So guess which one is running really smoother with more features?
Of Course my p1000 with aokp!!! Just to mention that the p6200 is actually double fast in hardware specs..
Guys, we got devs who really care, samsung is not even worth this post...

It is samsung following Motorola steps.
It's just frustrating as really love my tab just wish there was some more devs working on it. I don't have the time to go near this kind of project myself.
Hehe my coding is even more rusty than my tab. But now prestigo are selling ics tabs for under €200 and spec is similar to our tab. Grrrrrr

HEY GUYS! I just placed my order on Amazon for my TF300 and I can't wait. It comes in Tuesday and until then I will be spending my time in the forums trying to find out what I want to do to it.
I am coming from the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. It was a great tablet and the community was great. I was looking through this one and, to be honest, this forum looks a little confusing with the different versions for the different countries. The one I rodered is the TF300 B1-WH. I just wanna make sure that I can get what I need for this model from these forums.
So please stop by and tell me what you think and give some pointers. THANKS!

Take your time, do some reading and plan on a little time to verify there are no hardware issues before you go beyond stock. Most units selling today are on JB bootloader but if yours happens to come with ICS then consider nvflash.
Good Luck and Welcome!
Probably this is the best guide IMO - The best ROM is also BAKED - I'm currently on a test release which is amazing and BAKED just has all these AOKP customizations with the best stability and battery life of the AOSP Roms out there
also Ubuntu Touch is being ported but atm it's really, really a preview - not much working and not really stable!
thanks! I was so worried that since I was getting it off of Amazon that it was going to be some weird chinese version and almost useless. lol. I was able to find the 32GB refurb for 250. I am pretty stoked.
I was looking at the slim bean since that is what I run on my SIII but will wait for a slightly more stable version to come out. Any word on a paranoid ROM?
CleanROM is awesome. I definitely suggest giving it a try. We also have Paranoid Android. If you want to overclock you will want to use the 2.54 version with the modified Unter kernel in the 3rd post down from the OP under EXTRAS. There is a 2.99 version but its still a beta.
I ran the PA ROM for a few months and its nice. CleanROM performs better though.
I've got the 32gb version and love it. The dock is nice too if you ever decide to get one.
Sent from my LG-LG855 using Xparent SkyBlue Tapatalk 2
I to have cleanROM and it is simply awesome.
If i were you though i would give it a little while before you install custom ROMs just incase you have hardware issues and the tablet needs to go back for repair.
Then root the tablet and install a custom ROM. You won't regret it!

welcome ! I love my TF300 WW version , black 16 GB. I like to keep it stock and ... waiting for 4.2 . oh yea, *I ordered a leather case and I got a screen protector and a stylus !!! by the way, the package arrived in less than 2 weeks !!! ordered on 25feb => 10 days :victory: (normally should be 15-25 WORKING DAYS !! ). can't wait , i'll pick it up tomorrow
I'm patiently waiting for my 8.0 to arrive. While doing this I've skimmed through the forums and such gleeming information. The 8.0 has been out since April / May and it seems compared to the other Note products that I've owned (all three of them) the ROM development and general traffic seems to be on the light side.
Not criticizing.
Is this because the devs are waiting for a source to drop? Is this because the majority feel that Samsung has made a solid product (hardware and software) that there is little to adjust or complain about the product (which is a good thing) Or the last not so good scenario that thus is not a very popular device because of odd size, design, price point, economy, cheaper alternatives, waiting for something better?
I don't want to do the usual "Dude, thus place is Dead! Why?" Lol.
I'm interested in what others who have been here longer feel about this.
Thanks.

I just got my note 8.0 (international version n5100) few days ago. Although you are right there isn't much development going on. The problem is that most of the developers are in USA. The US version of the Note 8.0 (at&t) and the Canadian version have yet to have root. So that is why you don't see much activity around here. Once the At&t version can be modified. I would expect more developers to show up.
Best buy and such is just selling the WiFi version anyways sent they?
I guess that brings me to another question from what I've noticed: are people buying this mainly as a 3g device to use as a phablet? AFAIK mine will just be a WiFi only.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Yes Best Buy is most likely selling the wifi version unless they made you sign a contract that is a safe bet.
There are a bunch of Note 8.0 which makes me believe we will most likely need another sub forum once the North American Note 8.0 have a development scene. Since they have slightly different hardware. earpiece removed etc.
Since the At&t model only have data no phone or SMS. Most people have either the LTE model or the wifi model. Only the wifi model has a development scene.
Custom roms would be nice for some fun but I'm very happy with stock rooted. It's a solid device.
Sent from my GT-N7100
I'm all for custom roms....But, I like the stock rom very much. I chose the 5100 because it offers everything in one package. If I need to make a phone call, no problem. Send a text, I'm covered, plus wifi. Would loved to have had LTE but with T-Mobile 3G+ I don't feel rained on!! And yes I live in a refarmed area. For me, living in the U.S., the 5100 3G is the best option. In other countries that were offered LTE (voice+data) that would be the way to go.
The reason I go with Samsung in general is because I don't want to have to flash anything custom. Over the 5 years or so of owning Android, I've been through a lot of devices, and I can't begin to imagine how much time I've wasted flashing, restoring, backing up, etc, etc. There are more important things to life than customizing your gadgets. In short, I don't care whether this place is dead, active, or whether there is a single custom ROM or kernel out there for this device. Samsung provides a solid device that performs well, and they are about as up to date with updates as can be reasonably expected. I have no complaints.
Just as an aside, I've flashed many custom ROMs and kernels to my previous Galaxy S3. All of them made my performance and battery life far worse than stock, and most of them had serious issues with their themes.
That's maybe because you made poor choices on your Rom selections. It's definitely true there are nightmare roms out there.

Well I agree with that. As far as Samsung goes it is true that you're better off staying on something touchwiz based. This is true. All the CM and aosp stuff is plagued with problems. You're right about that. I actually like touch wiz ROMs especially for the note 2. Looks like the same with note 8. Once you lose the spen features you kinda lose the whole point of havin a Samsung device with spen. You're right
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Personally I just care about root because it opens up a lot of useful apps. Otherwise I haven't had issues with stock ROMs.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk 2
I wish more no pc root options were available. Tried framaroot so I could install a few apps and small mods but haven't had any luck. I think stock rooted with small mods is best for the note. I had a transformer TF300T that I highly moded to get it to run at the speeds I now have on the note 8.0.
I think over time and with 4.2.2 or 4.3 the note 8.0 should see more in the development area.
Sent from my Note 8.0 N5110 16GB
Rooting is always the first step for me and although custom roms are a handy shortcut there are many Xposed modules to help you to customise your device yourself.
Galaxy Note 8.0 Build JDQ39.N5120XXCMG7 / Baseband N5120XXBMD9 on Telstra LTE
Thanks for opening this thread! The lack of custom Roms was one of the first things I recognised after buying the Note 8. I came over from a NExus 7 (2012) and as was stated here before, modding just took a lot of time from me. First it was fun to try out CM, AOKP Paranoidandroid etc. and these guys really have some good features. But I never kept a ROM longer than a few weeks because they were all horrible slow - still better than stock though. In the end I realized that it was the device itself that kept getting slower due to hardware issues and the custom ROMs just eased the problem because of the wipe I did every time. My phone is a HTC Evo 3d that also needs a lot of attention due to (in my opinion) horrible stock ROM.
Now after reading this thread and thinking about my experiences with the Note so far I have to admit I'm pretty happy with it. I Also don't care that it is still on 4.1 because 4.2 on the Nexus was just a pain with all the bugs and extra features were rare and useless for me. with 4.3 it seems to be the exact same story. So for now it's okay. Especially since I installed my favorite launcher after trying out TouchWIz
I just hope to see a good Android 5 ROM someday with S-Pen functions and so on, but that story isn't written yet

So what are the differences between the n5100 and the i467?
telephony capability
LTE radio
ear speaker
ability to act as wifi hotspot
Anything other differences?
I like touchwiz. But I want cyanogenmod. I used cm on my s3 for more than a year.
I hope cm will be available for n5100 soon.

its a fantastic device, man...my wife has a 10.1, and its nothing like this tablet; you can one hand this guy, much smoother, and I am running CM 10.2 on it now, and its fast and smooth...great for taking everywhere, and, its more "phone like" than any other tablet...not tons of developement, but there are a couple of nice TW roms, both 4.1.2 and 4.2, plus now with cm 10.1 and 10.2, there is something for everyone!

Only you can decide that. Look up the proposed features of the S5 and then see what the S4 offers and make a decision. I would wait until it is definitely known what the specs and features of the S5 will be because it's just speculation now. Also, do as much reading as possible. Just about any possible question about the S4 has been asked and answered, just use the search function to find those answers.
One more thing. If you wait for the S5, wait until the developers edition or GE edition is released. Maybe even get the International S5 version if it is proven to work with AT&T LTE (which it should). DO not get the carrier branded version unless locked bootloaders and bloat is what you are looking for. Also, look into the KNOX issues to see if it further cripples the phones ability to be customized. If it does, you will probably be better going with another brand. But, like I said, you need to read and decide for yourself. Good luck.
Personally I don't think it's worth the wait. As for the s4 it's a good phone but there are other great phones out at the moment. If I was in your shoes I would consider the nexus 5 HTC one and LG g2 as alternative options. There is the note 3 but that depends on if your willing to carry a 5.7 inch screen with you.
Also now that I've had the s4 for a while I honestly got bored with it. I was hoping 4.3 would breath life back into it but it's just about the same. As for safestrap it helped but shortly got bored with ROMs and went back to stock. For my next upgrade I'll try another brand.
interesting replys thanks for that seems like i got a bit of reading to
i was thinking of going for the s5 cause ive been more than happy with the s2 for the last 2 years and i would imagine the s5 when its released will be a full spec phone

The future of flashing custom Roms is getting harder with new phones coming out so keep that in mind, if you don't mind not flashing custom Roms than the s5 would be a great phone.

Stay far away from the official ATT S4, they locked this phone down so tight, no custom Recovery, no flashing fresh new ROM's. It totally sucks, and is a very disturbing trend from ATT. Even the new Note 3 got the shaft Development on the ATT Note 3 is NONEXISTENT.
Even though I do love my S4, great smartphone, but if you get an MF3, or MJ9 version, your screwed.
If you got the cash, and want an S4, get the Google Play Edition, or find an International S4 on eBay.
I sure hope ATT isn't going to continue this in the future, locking down all new phones, and killing development ?
At least the ATT HTC One is totally developer friendly, it can be rooted, recovery, and S-Off no problem.

So I got a Note 3 on New Year's Day. After living with it for a few days, I really do love this thing. I'm not sure that is going to replace my Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition as a daily driver, but I still can't get over all the features this thing has, never mind the outstanding hardware. I also see a lot of things in Touchwiz that I'd love to see implemented in stock Android. I can't wait to see what, if any, new features Sammy will include with KitKat. Hopefully the KK update will come within the next month or two.

They may wait to release KitKat on the Note 4. The Note 3 may never see KitKat. Unless someone makes a ROM based on it and you use Safestrap.
If the GS4 is getting KitKat (which it will since the GPE variant already has it), you can bet your ass that the Note 3 will too.
