Do we get the Manual controls/mode like the galaxy s6?? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I feel Left out with the note 4. Samsung didn't implent many things in the note 4 Lollipop update for the sake of selling the s6. Like the Debloated/slimmed touchwiz, multi-grid support, themes support and most importantly, the new lollipop camera API or the manual controls and RAW support.
But will our Note 4 get these features in upcoming updates; 5.1.x for example, after selling the s6 maybe?
Isn't that changing policy that Samsung seeks? or is it only when it comes to new customers and potential buyers of new devices?!

A general observation on updates - Samsung = Nexus?

The main complaint about OEM-based handsets relative to the Nexus program is that our updates are delayed (significantly). However, you can reverse this and look at what we have that Nexus users don't. Touchwiz adds enhancements that you don't get on stock Android. Tile-based browser for smoother scrolling? We got it in 2.3.3, they got it in 4.0. Notification widget toggles? We got it in 2.3.3, they got it in 4.2. Enhanced touch responsiveness and overall system smoothness? Ours was better in 2.3.3, their didn't get better until 4.1. System-wide copy-paste? Sense implemented it in 2.1 and Samsung tried it to. Google didn't try it until 2.3, and didn't get it right until 3.0 (4.0 on smartphones). Also, we have expandable storage, and now the Nexus doesn't even have removable batteries. So remember folks, the grass isn't always greener. However, I did want to expand more on this. Here's some statistics;
-Apple concurrently supports three devices on OS updates (iPhone 4, 4S, and 5). They will drop the iPhone 4 just prior to iOS7, and replace it with the iPhone 5S (or whatever they call it).
-Google concurrently supports two devices. They dropped the Nexus One when the Galaxy Nexus was released. They dropped the Nexus S today when the Nexus 4 was released. You can pretty much count on the Galaxy Nexus not getting whatever version of Android releases around the time that the "Nexus 5" is released.
-The Samsung Galaxy S II was officially released on February 13, 2011. It has been out now for 21 months, and it is STILL pending an update. The Nexus S saw 2.3 --> 4.0 -->4.1, and that was it. the Galaxy S II is seeing 2.3 --> 4.0 --> 4.1. Also, Samsung hasn't yet ruled out 4.2, but I will admit that it is unlikely to come to us officially. Bottom line is that the S2 is being supported with updates up until near the release of the Galaxy S4. Two concurrent generations of software updates.
Basically, that puts it:
1. Apple
2. Google/Samsung
3. everyone else
If Android updates matter to you, you get either a Nexus (vanilla, immediate updates) or Samsung (delayed, custom updates with other hardware features). There have been a lot of people lately complaining about the pace of Samsung's updates. To those saying they'd rather have a Nexus, then good for you (sincerely). That's why we have options in Android. To those who left for Sony/Moto/HTC...either you didn't care about updates or you left for another reason. If you left for updates, we'll see you again in about 6 months
I think the biggest complaint isn't about delayed updates but holding back the source code for several parts of the S2...
And 4.1 is probably coming this month.
Edit: 4.1, not 4.2

Official 4.4.2 coming for s3 mini

http://phandroid.com/2014/02/18/samsung-galaxy-kitkat-official/
We’d already gotten word from an inside source that Samsung had big plans for KitKat, and those rumors have just become reality. Samsung has just officially announced that 14 different Galaxy devices will be receiving the upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat. That’s a lot of devices, so let’s not waste any time and jump right into it:
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini
Samsung Galaxy Mega
Samsung Galaxy Light
Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
Samsung made it a point to mention that “select” carrier editions of all these devices would get it, which pretty much means it’s up to your carrier to decide whether or not they’ll ultimately bring it to their version of any of these. We have a feeling quite a few of the devices on this list are going to be updated on nearly every carrier imaginable, though, so we wouldn’t worry too much about missing out.
This upgrade doesn’t add a ton of new features on Samsung’s side of the court, as the manufacturer brought most significant changes in the Android 4.3 upgrade that preceded it. Here’s what’s new in case you’re interested:
Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
Enhanced Messaging: Enables users to choose between Messages or Hangouts as their preferred default messaging application, and select from a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
Upgraded Google Mobile Service™ (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.
Of course, everything else new to KitKat as a whole can be found in our big FYI post right here, so be sure to take a gander in case you’re interested in more of the under-the-hood changes making this thing tick.
In case you haven’t heard, the Samsung Galaxy S4 upgrade has already started rolling out on Sprint here in the United States, while the Galaxy Note 3′s upgrade has started rolling out overseas.
Samsung says updates will “start” rolling out today, which you should take to mean that only certain devices, in certain regions and on certain carriers will be seeing an immediate rollout. It’ll likely take a few weeks — maybe months — for the upgrade to reach everyone on all these different devices, so you’ll have to be a little patient if you don’t get it sooner than you can say “break me off a piece of that KitKat bar.

[Q] Will Samsung enable the S-pen enhancements from N4 to N3?

If not, then how good of a chance do we have that someone figured the text and file select feature out because it is very useful.
like what hey did to N2 when N3 arrive... nope... they wont give it to us... but all these great people will figure it out anyway... ^_^
Samsung will give nothing to us...even the new UI interface...we likely to have what we get since Note 3 release...

We will get a new UI with android l
Its hard to say. The OG note was updated with a 'premium suite' when the note 2 was launched which included nearly all the improvements from note 2 (software wise) im sure if we dont receive the newer stuff it can be ported when we get a 4.4.4 base

Samsung won't give any new feature for past models. Even these features will be present in future ROM releases (usually it comes with android upgrade because based on the same source code as newer models), they will be disabled anyway. Today new devices aren't much more powerful than previous, so, in most cases only software features make new models more attractive than previous (my S4 SHV-E330S is almost identical to S5 SM-G900F).
Every manufacturer prefers to sell newer devices and earn money than support the old one for free. So, they need to stimulate purchases as much as possible (in Russia we call it "potrebliadstvo").
Samsung did premium upgrade once in the past for previous model(s) and realized they got no benefits from this and additionally let some potential buyers still keep their current phones (i.e. lost some money). Without strict requirements from Google we wouldn't get even android upgrades.
In short: only 3rd party amateur devs can bring something from new to old devices.

Official Android 6.0.1 TW for i9515??

Hi, I know that S5 G900F(no atm)/M/S that it has released on April 2014 and it is getting Android 6.0.1 TW Official from Samsung, and I am answering me if Galaxy S4 Value Edition I9515 gets Android 6.0.1 TW official from Samsung, because it has released on end May 2014 and it has good specs to run it without a problem. It is more modern than S5 theorically, and if it gets it, it can be port to normal i9505 variant?? Because it has same specs including Snap 600 and Adreno 320.
Thankss for your attention.
Have a nice day.
I doubt Samsung will release Marshmallow TW for any of the S4 models, even if they at capable of running it.
They have a stupid 2 year update warranty policy. What it means is that, for those 2 years, the device will get updates, but once those 2 years are up, no more software updates.
The only thing Samsung will provide now will probably just security updates.

Agreed, am seriously doubting that too.
Not to mention that we're seeing those ads 'upgrade to the Galaxy S6/S7 and get $250 dollars worth of accessories from our online store' on Facebook.
It also seems very stupid that they have not yet fixed the lag on the task switcher which I am sure that the S4 is capable of running smoothly even after 3 lollipop OTA updates.
Samsung unlike most OEMs always have a habit of not fully upgrading the UI of certain apps like the lockscreen, camera app, voice recorder, music or even to add a S6 themer in bid that those extra features will justify an upgrade.
Not being harsh on Samsung as other phone makers have the same 2 year update period unless if it's apple or something, but they could have at least upgraded the UI properly.
So yeah, I'd recommend the OP not to hold his or her breath.

[Discussion] Updates About The Official Oreo Update

Hi Guys In This Thread We Will Talk About The Official Oreo Update For Note 5
Any one knows any new news
Kindly post it :good:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung-galaxy-android-8-o-update
The weird thing For Now That They Put the Galaxy s6 in (These Galaxys may or may not get Android 8.0) category
And You can see in gsm arena they that galaxy s6 is planned To be Upgraded .
But They put The note 5 in (These Galaxys will not get Android 8.0) category
And If you asked me why I’m talking too much about galaxy s6 and the connection between it and the note 5 i find the answer pretty obvious ,
actually if you compare the hardware between them you will find that they have the same Chipset and the same CPU and the same GPU !!!!!
So You Can Say It’s Not A Hardware issue .
If oreo will not come to note5 and came for s6e then the devs will port it for note5

From Sammy firmware, like S8, S9 and Note 8, the problem are the kernel and libs, bur more for this last; And from AOSP, someone make a build and share in this forum.

I hope , but it will be a stupid move from Samsung
Accordoing to me , Samsung won't give Oreo to Galaxy S6. Because it have taken two major upgrades.
We can only wait for Galaxy A8 (2016). But on the other hand, it's not a flagship device. So, maybe Samsung will give Oreo to Galaxy A8 (2016).
There is no hope for me.
It's a joke not to update at least the s6 and note 5.
Especually since people went two years nearly with the note 4 and 5 being the only notes. And Samsung didn't give either of them justified updates making up for that fact.
Its not Samsung though. Sadly all companies are like this. Google is pretty much no better. And the only ones that give any more have weak uis in comparison.
And anyone claiming about i phones getting updates is clearly too niave to speak on the matter
Note 5/S6 Edge will receive at least 7.1.1. For Example Note 4 start with 4.4.4 and received 5.0.1>5.1.1>6.0.1=3 updates. Note 5 start 5.1.1 and receive 6.0>7.0=2. Next between android 7.0 and 8.0 are not much changes. So why no called 7.5? Maybe merketing and full of numers are reserved only for the newest devices.
This is why I'll never get a Samsung phone ever again. They are only supported for 2 Android versions, the software sucks, lack of support for Exynos cpu.
I've been impressed with the Xiaomi's I've used. The screens are not as good as Samsung. But even Samsung's screens are not good compared to LG.
