http://phandroid.com/2014/02/18/samsung-galaxy-kitkat-official/
We’d already gotten word from an inside source that Samsung had big plans for KitKat, and those rumors have just become reality. Samsung has just officially announced that 14 different Galaxy devices will be receiving the upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat. That’s a lot of devices, so let’s not waste any time and jump right into it:
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini
Samsung Galaxy Mega
Samsung Galaxy Light
Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
Samsung made it a point to mention that “select” carrier editions of all these devices would get it, which pretty much means it’s up to your carrier to decide whether or not they’ll ultimately bring it to their version of any of these. We have a feeling quite a few of the devices on this list are going to be updated on nearly every carrier imaginable, though, so we wouldn’t worry too much about missing out.
This upgrade doesn’t add a ton of new features on Samsung’s side of the court, as the manufacturer brought most significant changes in the Android 4.3 upgrade that preceded it. Here’s what’s new in case you’re interested:
Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
Enhanced Messaging: Enables users to choose between Messages or Hangouts as their preferred default messaging application, and select from a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
Upgraded Google Mobile Service™ (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.
Of course, everything else new to KitKat as a whole can be found in our big FYI post right here, so be sure to take a gander in case you’re interested in more of the under-the-hood changes making this thing tick.
In case you haven’t heard, the Samsung Galaxy S4 upgrade has already started rolling out on Sprint here in the United States, while the Galaxy Note 3′s upgrade has started rolling out overseas.
Samsung says updates will “start” rolling out today, which you should take to mean that only certain devices, in certain regions and on certain carriers will be seeing an immediate rollout. It’ll likely take a few weeks — maybe months — for the upgrade to reach everyone on all these different devices, so you’ll have to be a little patient if you don’t get it sooner than you can say “break me off a piece of that KitKat bar.

Patience is a virtue that many Android users get to exercise when it comes to waiting for carriers and manufacturers to bring their smartphones up to speed with the latest Android flavor.
The wait for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is over for some Canadian folks, since Samsung Canada announced that it has started rolling out the ICS software update for Samsung Galaxy devices. The update will be available on select devices starting now and will continue to reach all devices and carriers.
Samsung devices that can soon hop aboard the Ice Cream Sandwich express include the Galaxy S2, Galaxy S2 LTE, Galaxy S2 LTE HD, and Galaxy S2 X. Tablets aren’t forgotten either, since the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 7.0, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 will also receive the ICS update soon. And yes, we’re every bit as surprised as you are to see the original Galaxy Tab being listed there.
Rolling out an upgrade across so many variants and carriers takes time you know, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see it on your Samsung Galaxy device today. Some manual checking won’t hurt either if you want to somewhat speed up the process, though the fresh new version of Android will still be heavily adorned with Samsung’s TouchWiz. Also, keep in mind that the rollout depends on the good will of the carriers too, so your mileage may vary.
Hopefully Samsung Canada’s move will be followed soon by their US counterpart. Samsung has already detailed last week which devices will be eligible for the upgrade, but failed to mention any specific dates. Interestingly, unlike the Canadian list, the original Galaxy Tab 7 isn’t on the US list.
So, have you received your ICS update yet? Tell us in the comments below.
There wouldn't be any sense in downloading the Note ICS update that's being pushed to canada because it is for the LTE note which is a completely different device than the one you presumably have if you're in this forum.
Not the right place bub!!
Canadian Update is not for N7000!!
OTOH
Wazzup Ganjaman!!

This is not the correct device, even it it was, this should be posted in the ICS sticky.
In 2011, 2012 and this year Samsung brought plenty of Android devices. Today we received, through our insider the first pre-list about upcoming Android updates from the Korean giant. Samsung will update the Galaxy S II and Note to Android 4.2.2 but this will be the last update for these devices. This means the Galaxy S II and Note received an update from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 and will stop at Android version 4.2.2. Google is the only OEM which gives so many updates to its devices but Samsung is doing the same now. Below is the list of devices, which will receive the Android 4.2.2 update from Samsung.
But there is more according to the first pre-list, Samsung will only update 5 devices to Android 5.0, which is not yet announced by Google but is expected to be announced at the upcoming Google IO. The devices which will be getting the Android 5.0 update are the Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4, Note II, Note 8.0 and Note 10.1. Our insider finished with saying that plenty of MID-range Android devices of 2012 / 2013 will also receive a value pack update. Samsung did this before with the first generation of Galaxy devices. The insider confirmed Google’s next version is expected to be a big update and Samsung will take some time to update their devices.
Below is the list of devices which is not confirmed by Samsung yet. But is confirmed by our insider.
* End at Android 4.2.2 update.

I read a while back that they are introducing some kind of theming/skinning engine to enable carriers to update quicker, hopefully this engine will enable themers to have a good old hack and play! How deep into ui this theming goes is anyone's guess
This is great to know S3 will get another year of updates especially knowing also the S3 will get all the features of the S4 that do not require new sensor/hardware
Given the money they are making with the Galaxy S series, it would seem a really smart move to invest a small fraction of those benefits in updating the Android OS version, to buy user's loyalty. I still don't trust the source completely, but the strategy makes sense to me.
Ofcourse this is not official so we shall wait and see

of course, this is not official, but I believe its highly likely we will get 5.0
samsung wouldnt kill s3 so fast, specially with a so capable hardware

Seriously...do you still expect s2 to get 5.0? You should be very happy if it gets 4.2.2...it really has similar cpu architecture and that means its still capable of running newest androids, samsung wont upgrade because of age, not capatibillity

Is this a response to the Apple claim that the S4 is being launched with last year's version of Android, that the Android market is fragmented over so many versions and capabilities?

Would be nice if the S3 gets android 5, but it's likely most S3's will have crapped out by then because of the faulty nand.

I have a theory that on each boot the emmc chip plays a little game of russian roulette with our partition structure and format - blowing out the brains of the unfortunate partition that happens to be chosen.
The result of which poor partition got terminated varies from a wipe and reflash upto a hardbrick and warranty repair...
I respect samsung for the S2 updates.
The S2 is a historical phone, it's gone through 3 major updates.
And they are doing the same for the S3.
They took down the whole market with just 3 phones, and now they are looking forward to adjust themselves on the throne with a 4th one.
One thing i can't wait for is the S4 features to play with on the S3.
It's almost confirmed that we will get them, as i see strings of those features in the MB3 leak.
All i can say, good job Samsung.
The only let down of Samsung is their care against the developer community, if they would be more like Sony. I'd never buy anything else than a galaxy device.

It's already confirmed. Samsung said we will get all the S4 features which aren't directly hardware dependent (features which require certain hardware to be there, like the infrared thingy)
Android isn't even completely optimized for Quad Core yet, The Galaxy S3 has at least another year of support left.
I love when a new Android version comes out. It makes our phone brand new for a while. I hope version 5.0 or whatever can fo that for me so I can keep this bad boy another year.

We got a 99% chance of getting KLP because there's no way samsung will update the GS4 only + The GS2 got 4.0/4.1/4.2 and the GS3 got 4.1/4.2(leaked) only so the GS3 will probably get 1 more update after 4.2 which is 5.0.
Last month, a flurry of Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean updates arrived in the United States. Unlike Android 4.1.2 updates in other parts of the world though, they arrived without Samsung’s Premium Suite of features including Multi-Window View. And now, even as Samsung has promised Galaxy S4 features for the Galaxy S3 in the future, the Premium Suite remains a source of mystery in the United States.
Back in December, Samsung rolled out an incremental Android update for users of its aging smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S3. That update, Android 4.1.2, may have been incremental, but it brought a ton of new features to owners of the Galaxy S3 in the form of what Samsung calls, the Premium Suite.
Premium Suite is the name used describe a batch of new Samsung software features that arrived with Android 4.1.2 including the highly regarded Multi-Window View feature from the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Multi-Window View is a feature that allows for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners to run two separate applications on screen at the same time. It’s extremely useful to those that may be heavy multitaskers.
Of course, that’s not the only feature that came with the Premium Suite. In addition, Galaxy S3 users got even more functionality, including:
Page Buddy – When a user plugs in headphones the Galaxy S III will bring up a page with the music player.
Contextual Menu – When looking at apps, sort by most frequently used apps.
Contextual Tag - Tag the weather, date and place a photo is taken right after snapping it.
Auto Share Shot Pairing with NFC – Quickly share photos with Auto Shot Share to other Galaxy S III and S-Beam devices.
Reader Mode - Control the text size of the web browser and tap on a page to share.
Facebook Lock Ticker – View a Facebook News Feed on the Galaxy S III lock screen.
Suffice to say, Android 4.1.2 for the Galaxy S3 was not a typical, incremental Android update.
Shortly after the Galaxy S3 received the update, it started rolling out elsewhere. In late December, it hit Europe. Just a few days later, it rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE, the model that U.S. carriers use as their variants.
In mid-January, the update rolled out to owners of an unbranded Galaxy S3 in Australia. Then, silence. That is, until last month when the Verizon Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2 leaked, an update that foreshadowed the present day for Galaxy S3 owners in the United States.
Here now, we take a detailed look at the situation surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S3 Premium Suite update in the U.S. and break down what has happened to each device since Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean rolled out at the end of last year.
AT&T Galaxy S3
Unlike other carriers, AT&T has yet to roll out its Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update, instead focusing on getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out to an assortment of its other devices, the most recent being the LG Optimus G.
So far, AT&T has not mentioned anything about the Premium Suite, or lack thereof, which means that it’s currently an open book. This is a good thing as it means that there is still a slim chance that Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean could roll out between now and the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update that is likely in the cards for some point later this year.
We imagine that it’s also possible that Android 4.2 Jelly Bean itself will bring Premium Suite features to owners of the AT&T Galaxy S3. At this point though, that is merely speculation as AT&T has not revealed any details in regards to its plans for the Galaxy S3 Premium Suite or Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update.
Sprint Galaxy S3
Galaxy S3 Review Best Of
The Sprint Galaxy S3 got its Android 4.1.2 update but it did not feature Premium Suite.
Sprint Galaxy S3 were one of the unlucky recipients of an Android 4.1.2 update void of Premium Suite features.
Like the Verizon Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.2 update, the update was small, like a typical incremental Android update, and brought about some minor fixes for owners of Sprint’s Galaxy S3 variant. Needless to say, owners were not the least bit pleased with the lack of features.
The roll out has now left Galaxy S3 owners hoping for one thing: That Sprint will bring the Premium Suite features with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean when and if it arrives.
T-Mobile Galaxy S3 users are in the same boat as AT&T Galaxy S3 owners in that T-Mobile has yet to roll out an Android 4.1.2 update for the Galaxy S3. This of course means that it’s still possible that the Premium Suite will be on board the software when it arrives, if it arrives.
The carrier has not given any sign that it’s preparing an Android 4.1.2 update and so far, we haven’t seen any software leak out. Like the AT&T Galaxy S3, it means that the device may get the new features with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or quite possibly, not at all.
The best responses we’ve seen in regards to the update is from a T-Mobile rep who says that:
The newest software versions are definitely nice to get. When ever there’s a software update released, we do evaluate the software and determine whether or not it will benefit the devices on our network. At this time, we don’t have any information about the next GSIII update, but do definitely keep an eye on our site for any changes to that status.
That’s as good as it’s going to get for T-Mobile Galaxy S3 owners, at least for now.
U.S. Cellular Galaxy S3
The Galaxy S3 variant on the nation’s fifth largest carrier, U.S. Cellular, was recently updated to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean but like the Sprint and Verizon updates, it was without the Premium Suite.
The Galaxy S3 on Verizon got its Android 4.1.2 update. It just didn't have Premium Suite.
Instead, U.S. Cellular’s device included two known features, a bump up in version to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and a fix for an audio issue with streaming media.
Like the others, the carrier has not announced whether it will be bringing Premium Suite to the Galaxy S3 with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or another update in the future.
Verizon Galaxy S3
The Verizon Galaxy S3 was the first to get the Android 4.1.2 update and thus, it was the device to usher in the disappointment that has been felt amongst Galaxy S3 owners in the United States.
The Verizon Galaxy S3 got treated to Android 4.1.2. Without Premium Suite.
Verizon’s Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update came with a load of enhancements and fixes but unfortunately, did not have Multi-Window View or any of the other fantastic features of Premium Suite.
Like the others, Verizon has yet to announce if and when the update will be rolling out. Verizon is typically slow to software upgrades which means that owners might be waiting for quite awhile for Premium Suite if it ever does arrive.
Other Carriers
One other Android 4.1.2 update has arrived and that update was for the C Spire Wireless Galaxy S3 which received its update at the beginning of March. Oddly enough, C Spire’s update did bring its variant up to speed with a few features that Samsung says are part of the Premium Suite, including Easy Mode, but the full Premium Suite of features remains missing.
What’s Next?
The Galaxy S3 is thought to be getting Galaxy S4 features. But will U.S. carriers oblige?
Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any good news for those in the U.S. with a Galaxy S3. The carriers that have rolled out Android 4.1.2 updates have done so without Premium Suite and the carriers that haven’t rolled out the update haven’t said if they will be offering Premium Suite or if they will even be offering an update to Android 4.1.2.
Even worse, it’s unclear when Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the most logical choice for an update that could bring these features in the future, will be rolling out in the U.S. Rumors suggest May or June for the international model which means if the Premium Suite does come with Android 4.2, Galaxy S3 owners in the U.S. could be in for a wait.
What’s more is that the Galaxy S3 Android 4.2 update leaked for the international version of the device which already has access to the new features, meaning, it’s unclear if the update will bring anything new to the Galaxy S3 in the U.S.
What this means for the future is not clear. Samsung has promised some of the Galaxy S4 features for the Galaxy S3 with the new camera software being a front-runner for arrival. But given that U.S. carriers want to sell a lot of Samsung Galaxy S4′s, and given the lack of Premium Suite support, it’s unclear if Galaxy S3 owners in the United States will ever see any of these new features.

What a load of crock.
Yesterday, Samsung U.S. confirmed that 14 devices will soon be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat. However, there was no mention of when international models would be receiving the KitKat update. Fret not users, as we now have confirmation as to which international models will be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update. The list is Samsung Poland’s official KitKat update list that was obtained today by Polish blogger Robert Nawrowski. It is to be noted that not all models listed below would be making the switch to KitKat right away. They will move to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and eventually receive Android 4.4 KitKat.
Here are the international models that will be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat:
Galaxy Note 3
Galaxy Note 2
Galaxy S4
Galaxy S4 Active
Galaxy S4 Zoom
Galaxy Mega 6.3
Galaxy Mega 5.8
Galaxy Grand
Galaxy Express
Galaxy Note 8.0
Galaxy Note 10.1
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
Galaxy Tab 3 7.0
Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
Galaxy Tab 3 10.1
The list is identical to the list of models detailed by Samsung U.S., although unlike the U.S. list, it isn’t clear as to when these mobiles will receive the OTA update. Most devices launched last year are included in the list, with a few notable exclusions like the Galaxy Core. It is interesting to see that the Galaxy S3 won’t be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat, but considering that it is now close to two years since its official launch, we won’t blame Samsung for giving the S3 a miss.

I have been using my PRO 12.2 for a couple of months and I am quite happy. Coming from a Google Nexus background (phone and 7" tablet) one of my main concerns with purchasing a Samsung product was it's poor history of providing software updates. I have owned Samsung tablets in the past and always felt stranded by the lack of updated versions of Android.
It will be interesting to see how fast it will take them to push out Android 4.4.3 OTA. 4.4.3 is a minor update so one would think that it would be fairly quick. I really hope Samsung passes the test. Let's see how serious they really are.
One of the major Samsung`s disadvantages is the poor support and updates for their whole products starting from smart phones to tablets.
For example Galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition was released in October 2014 with Jelly Bean 4.2 and just weeks ago Samsung started to roll out 4.3 for that great tablet. While they have released the Note Pro 12.2 with the kitkat 4.3 on January 2014...
"If you wanna the recent updates and software go and get their new product or you have to wait for a long time till you get the updates"
I think this is Samsung`s Policy.

Samsung does often appear to be neglecting devices when it comes to updates. Fact of the matter is, 99% of the time the cause is a significant problem in the software adaptation.
The Note 3 was the very first non-nexus device to get 4.4.2, so it's not always the case.
You can't measure the release by Nexus standards. The Nexus-release is a glorified beta-test.

I don`t think so...
Simply there are 2 devices with almost the same hardware specs (Note 10.1 and Note Pro) the first one (10.1) has recently started to get the 4.4.2 update while the Note Pro was released with the Kitkat 4.4.2 on January 2014.
Another example, the upcoming tablets 10.5 S/Note 4/ Tab 4/...etc will be released with the recent updates 4.4.3 which is still not available for any other Tab/Note/Smart Phone...
I think it is not the matter of software adaptation but the priority goes for the upcoming products not those already released....

OEMs can access Google's internal Android's sources before they're open-sourced. Nexus isn't a benchmark - it's a public release of already finished firmware, and patching up the final issues, OEM's updates should follow within one-two months, not 6+ months or more. Since Note 3 is still one of their top phablets with no successors, they had to update it quickly enough to make people stay on their devices - if you'd spend 650 pounds on a device and then wait 6 months (if you're lucky) to get an update, you'd probably be pissed off (and rightfully so). They abandon their low-end devices or older flagships quite quickly.
For example, Galaxy S2 (which I own) was updated to 4.1, but not any further, despite being perfectly capable of doing so. According to Samsung, it's because they ran out of memory with TouchWiz bloatware 99.9% folks never use features, despite the fact that S3 was updated to 4.3, and had 1GB RAM - just as S2 did, S2 /system was 512MB, /preload was another 512MB. S3's firmware was ~800MB. So, really, it's just them having crappy business practices.
Another example? Galaxy Mini 2. It's moderately popular in Poland - it's cheap and "just works", and was released with 2.3 - had a couple of point releases, but never got past Gingerbread. There are 4.x ROMs for this phone here, and they're fast and fine. Capable - just Samsung's not interested. Okay, they were - and eventually announced that no update will be released.
I'm honestly admiring Microsoft for their WP8.1 upgrade policy.
Been there, done that. . My experience with a Verizon galaxy tab 10.1 was enough to convince me not to buy another Verizon variant of a Samsung tablet. If samsung is slow at releasing updates it only gets worse on carrier versions. Look at AT&T... they put in their FCC application at around the same time as Verizon for the Note probut are only now announcing it. In a world where refreshed hardware is released yearly having a 4 month lag in release is a bit concerning.

That's a systemic Android issue. Apple puts out updates to their 7 year old devices, but Android devices are always abandoned in less than a year. Hopefully, we'll get better support for this device.
