In 2011, 2012 and this year Samsung brought plenty of Android devices. Today we received, through our insider the first pre-list about upcoming Android updates from the Korean giant. Samsung will update the Galaxy S II and Note to Android 4.2.2 but this will be the last update for these devices. This means the Galaxy S II and Note received an update from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 and will stop at Android version 4.2.2. Google is the only OEM which gives so many updates to its devices but Samsung is doing the same now. Below is the list of devices, which will receive the Android 4.2.2 update from Samsung.
But there is more according to the first pre-list, Samsung will only update 5 devices to Android 5.0, which is not yet announced by Google but is expected to be announced at the upcoming Google IO. The devices which will be getting the Android 5.0 update are the Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4, Note II, Note 8.0 and Note 10.1. Our insider finished with saying that plenty of MID-range Android devices of 2012 / 2013 will also receive a value pack update. Samsung did this before with the first generation of Galaxy devices. The insider confirmed Google’s next version is expected to be a big update and Samsung will take some time to update their devices.

I read a while back that they are introducing some kind of theming/skinning engine to enable carriers to update quicker, hopefully this engine will enable themers to have a good old hack and play! How deep into ui this theming goes is anyone's guess
This is great to know S3 will get another year of updates especially knowing also the S3 will get all the features of the S4 that do not require new sensor/hardware
Given the money they are making with the Galaxy S series, it would seem a really smart move to invest a small fraction of those benefits in updating the Android OS version, to buy user's loyalty. I still don't trust the source completely, but the strategy makes sense to me.
Ofcourse this is not official so we shall wait and see

Seriously...do you still expect s2 to get 5.0? You should be very happy if it gets 4.2.2...it really has similar cpu architecture and that means its still capable of running newest androids, samsung wont upgrade because of age, not capatibillity

Is this a response to the Apple claim that the S4 is being launched with last year's version of Android, that the Android market is fragmented over so many versions and capabilities?

Would be nice if the S3 gets android 5, but it's likely most S3's will have crapped out by then because of the faulty nand.

I have a theory that on each boot the emmc chip plays a little game of russian roulette with our partition structure and format - blowing out the brains of the unfortunate partition that happens to be chosen.
The result of which poor partition got terminated varies from a wipe and reflash upto a hardbrick and warranty repair...
I respect samsung for the S2 updates.
The S2 is a historical phone, it's gone through 3 major updates.
And they are doing the same for the S3.
They took down the whole market with just 3 phones, and now they are looking forward to adjust themselves on the throne with a 4th one.
One thing i can't wait for is the S4 features to play with on the S3.
It's almost confirmed that we will get them, as i see strings of those features in the MB3 leak.
All i can say, good job Samsung.
The only let down of Samsung is their care against the developer community, if they would be more like Sony. I'd never buy anything else than a galaxy device.

It's already confirmed. Samsung said we will get all the S4 features which aren't directly hardware dependent (features which require certain hardware to be there, like the infrared thingy)
Android isn't even completely optimized for Quad Core yet, The Galaxy S3 has at least another year of support left.
I love when a new Android version comes out. It makes our phone brand new for a while. I hope version 5.0 or whatever can fo that for me so I can keep this bad boy another year.

We got a 99% chance of getting KLP because there's no way samsung will update the GS4 only + The GS2 got 4.0/4.1/4.2 and the GS3 got 4.1/4.2(leaked) only so the GS3 will probably get 1 more update after 4.2 which is 5.0.

Jelly Bean is running perfectly on the Galaxy Note for me .. Even better than Ice Cream Sandwich
I am a bit dissapointed that the Galaxy Note hasn't all the features which S4 has for e.x the feature with Tap Top(where you tap on the phone and the list will go up to the top), i think Samsung built an extra Sensor for it which Note doesn't have.
LETS PRAY FOR ONE THING: I hope the Android 4.2.2 isn't using a sensor for AIR Gesture(to swipe pics by hands), i hope the Air Gesture feature is using the normal front camera, so that we could use it too on Note, otherwise i will be very sad and 4.2.2 would be nothing for me because i've never seen a better feature than this, but c'mon, ITS AWESOME!
Peace :good:

It'll be amazing if Samsung release android 4.2.2 for galaxy note 10.1 users before summer and it improves the good performance we can get for the quad core processor.
If you look at comments on Google code, you'll see that Bluetooth remains broken in 4.2.2. This is totally unawesome and Google seems unable or unwilling to fix their code.

The BT issue is especially pervasive with any type of audio headsets (many can't establish any connection with audio BT), although some users are reporting that other BT devices will connect but then disconnect, requiring a reboot to be usable again. I hate to see what Android merged into Chrome will look like. Google's size may not really improve its products. Google is also terrible at interacting with its customers. So many times they never respond to bug reports on Google Code even if a multitude of users confirm its existence. They're morphing into a new version of MS.

I am begining to love the Nexus concept. It's where all the major bugs in Android get found, which make the system unusable for Nexus users - before Samsung release a fixed and tested version a few months later!

I think Google isn't adequately beta testing, asuming the Nexus aficionados who buy the devices for "native" Android are geeky enough to tolerate bugs. However, the Bluetooth bug has been draging on for 5 months and tempers are flairing, especially since Google isn't responding. Other manufacturers that are putting an interface on top of Google's code seem to be putting out better products at the moment.

You are on Jellybean 4.1.2 if you're on the updated sock ROM. Google put out an increnental update last fall with the Jelly Bean designation 4.2, this update has killed Bluetooth. Most Nexus device users, who are the consumers who've gotten this update are reporting that audio Bluetooth is completely dead and that other Bluetooth devices may connect briefly but then disconnect and the device must be rebooted. Google has been silent on this issue in the Google Code forums and 2 subsequent updates, 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 have not fixed it. Users in the Google Code forums are frustrated as this problem has existed for almost 5 months and Google is dead silent on the issue.
Also, Goog hasn't implemented BTLE, which means there's a TON of devices like Nike's FUEL band that can't be made to work with any Android device. Almost every Android device made since the middle of last year has a BT4+LE chipset but can't use it except by bringing in a third party library - and since there's different chipsets, it's a pain to support all the different devices - so no one supports any of them.

Speculation is that the strategy on dropping the micro sd is to ultimately drive more users to Google cloud storage (and ultimately fees for Google). Given the shift of responsibility for Android development to the manager for Chrome, tech publications see Google merging Android into Chrome. I suspect that it will be a mess. The big question is whether Google code writing and beta testing will improve. I'm not going to hold my breath.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may soon see an update to the latest version of Android. The latest rumor points to a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2.2 update in May or June, along with a Galaxy S3 4.2.2 update.
This is good news for owners of the popular Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3, but it is likely that this update will come after the announcement of Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) at Google I/O on May 15th.
Samsung recently pushed out Android 4.1.2 updates to several versions of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 is also running Android 4.1.2 on some carriers.
The latest news comes from SamMobile’s twitter account, claiming the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2.2 update and the Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 updates are coming soon, specifically in May or June.
Samsung did not announce which features specifically will appear in a Samsung Galaxy note 2 or S3 update, but based on leaks we expect Smart scroll and the Smart pause feature to make an appearance. We may also see further support for Multi-View on the Galaxy S3 in the U.S. and enhanced motion control.
In any case, expect a three-month wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2.2 updates to hit the U.S. carriers after the initial release. According to an alleged Samsung leak, the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy note 2 are also in line for an update to Android 5.0, but the timing of that rumored update is unknown.

What do you guys think?
I'm guessing that this was written when a lot of the tech media thought 5.0 was going to be Key Lime Pie. Both just wrong obviously.
I wouldn't expect another official update for the Note 8.0. I'm not.
Yeah, I am expecting the next "update " will be a hardware refresh. Watch for something at CES.
I am pretty confident that it won't get any more love. After rooting and going with Flexburst/S5 note app with Aircommand to match my Note 4 (Which is awesome), this will likely fade into obscurity once a replacement presents itself.
Custom Roma is great choice but we still need the updated stock to reach to maximum stability.
stability is important for device like Note 8 since many of us depend on it for our daily work

My note8 is the wifi version 5110 and is rooted 442
Does anybody know what is "Note Pro 8.8"? at http://www.theandroidsoul.com/andro...dule-samsung-htc-sony-motorola-manufacturers/ ?
S3 didn't receive kitkat, so the list is wrong in every way xD
samsung is always very bad to the update things , our only hope is the devs
Sent from my GT-N5120 using XDA Free mobile app
Iam guessing the note 2 and probably the note 8 will get and end at 4.4.4 updates
Sent from my GT-N5100 using Tapatalk 2

Maybe they meant Note Pro 8.4...?
Been out of the scene for a while..is there any way to get Lollipop on the GT N5110 or as close to stock as possible.
If anyone could provide a link to the necessary rom that would be awesome! Think I've had enough of this Touchwiz with Nova.
Thanks!
The Note II is officially getting Lollipop, so I think there is hope for our Note 8. I'm under the 10 post limit for posting links, so I can't post one. I'm sure you guys have seen the articles by now.
