This trick is for stock Lollipop rom .
If you've E signal you can force the phone to connect to H, H+ or even LTE (probably only for short time). (probably also work from H to LTE).
1. Go into settings
2. Tap "more" at wireless and connections.
3. Tap mobile networks
4. Tap network operators and tap "OK" (data network will temporarily be disabled until networks are scanned)
5. Check the networks list for your carriers networks, if you're lucky you'll find a more fast network for your current area. Then tap the fastest network to try connecting, if it can't connect to the fastest, it'll connect to the least fastest.
##You can attempt this anytime you like to try to connect to a better network, LTE networks might not stick long if the signal is weak, but you could just do it again.##
##If you loose the signal after a while, it might happen that you're getting connected to a slower network again. Meaning you can then again follow the instructions to gain a better network##

This is not about HOW TO DISABLE the data connection: I know there are plenty of ways and apps to do that, even automatically.
As regards me I have two manual options to do that on my phone:
1. In the Comm manager, under Wireless Controls, I have 3G on/off option, which I can use to switch between 3G and 2G network
2. ModaCo NoData, which I can use to ENABLE/DISABLE my "H3G Internet" data connection
My questions are:
a] do I have to use both?
b] if either one is enough, which one is the best (or: what is the difference between the two)?
Thanks
I believe if you are on the 2G network, you can still connect to the internet via GPRS?

Click to collapse
This does what it says, switches your phone from 3G/2G networks to 2G only. But in both cases your phone can place a data connection, only it will be slower when on 2G (GPRS/EDGE).
To disable the connection, you need to use nodata. The other option does nothing in this regard.
So in the end your question still actually was about how to disable
Fine understood
New question then: considering that I have automatic wetaher/location/facebook.pushmail active, if I disable data connection at night and in the office, would this save battery life?
Most likely a little, yes. But data connection barely uses anything when idle, so you save the little amount of traffic that takes place from the updates. And the phone will still wake up at the update intervals to try and connect, which drains pretty much the same as the connection itself.
This wasn't discovered by me, but I've used this method and it seems to work wonders in Boston, MA. Especially areas where you get constant switching between HSDPA/3g and Edge data connection.
Go to Settings> Wireless Controls> Tap Phone> Band> WCDMA. Or if you have Bandswitch, select the UMTS option.
I usually like to listen to Pandora and browse the web during my commute to and from work, but whenever I get near the hospital buildings near my work the data connection always drops because the radio decides to switch automatically from H/3g to Edge connection. I'm not sure how much this depends on the H/3g coverage in your area, so be advised that this tip may not work everywhere.
Also, something to be aware of is when you switch between bands, the phone may not be able to find the T-mobile network automatically. If this happens I usually just go to Menu> Network Selection from the Phone Settings and tap on Find Network. Usually it will find the T-Mobile network this way, otherwise I would soft reset.
Hi all, the thought I'd share a little tip I discovered for those of you using an international Note on Telstra Australia.
I was finding my speed was maxing out at HSDPA, and no matter where I was in the Greater Brisbane area, keeping my speed low and annoying. I knew I was in a HSPA+ area, and so this was doubly annoying.
My network name was also stuck on "3Telstra", which I found out is the name of their 2100mHz network. So it was simple to change it:
1. Go into settings>wireless and network
2. At the very bottom of the page, select "Mobile Networks"
3. Select "network operators" (warning, and this will temporarily turn off your data connection)
4. When the phone has finished finding the list of networks, choose to connect to "Telstra Mobile"
You should now hopefully see that your connection icon says "3G" when you're not actively usng data, and switch to "H+" when you load a webpage or initiate a data connection.
Hey forum,
i go away from home and i have no more wifi connection.
Then i suddenly get a connection to mobile internet (EPlus) first.
As i am in an area without a connection and i come back to EPlus, i can use my phone for telephone and SMS but i get no internet connection automatically.
I must use the airplane-mode to totally logoff and 5 sec later go out of airplane-mode. In this way i get the internet connection back.
My wife has the same problem with Incredible S and GingerSense 1.3.
Is this maybe a problem of EPlus? Or is there anyone with tve same problem and another provider?
Andreas
Perhaps it's your wifi giviing you problems, going bad.
Sent from a dream.
If the signal of your provider (in this case Eplus) is weak, it might not find it right away.
Also, try going into Settings>Wireless settings then under Network mode, check if it says GSM/WCDMA
This setting will try to connect to 2G or 3G whichever has the strongest signal, however if both are available, 3G will be selected.
I just got myself a Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2022 (SM-P613). Using the stock OS, when I try to connect to a WiFi network, I only get a small selection of networks under "Available networks" in the settings. If i move closer to one of the networks that are not shown, it suddenly appears in the list, so I assume that the list contains only the networks with the strongest signals.
Checking with an app, such as "Wifi analyzer", or using the hidden "Wi-Fi developer options", I see that the tablet sees the other networks, but for some reason chooses not to show them in the settings. I tried turning "Intelligent Wi-Fi" off, but it didn't change anything.
Is this some sort of "convenience" feature by Samsung or recent versions of Android, and, if so, is there a way to turn it off? I would think that being offered to connect to networks to which I have no access, just because they are near, and not being offered to connect to a network to which I do have access, just because it is further away, but still within range, is not convenient at all.
BTW, I can connect to the network with the weaker signal from the Wi-Fi developer options, so this is not a matter of the signal being too weak to use.
