[FIXED] Google Now and Keep not working? - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's fixed now thanks to the new update!
I recently switched from Android 5.0 to AOKP, a KitKat rom. Now, the Google Now and Google Keep won't work and they just show a spinning circle when I try to talk to it or open the Keep app on my Sony Smartwatch 3. However they are working fine before, when I had 5.0. The apps are also currently working on my phone, but not my watch.
Please help. It's hard to use many of the watch's functions without GNow. :crying:

In my case was only Keep which was broken.
It was fixed by deleting all the data of keep using the proper application management section of config. Keep will recreate everything from the cloud.

"Google Services" High Data Usage

I'm very confused with my wife's N4. "Google Services" has used ~1.5GB of data in the last 3 days. My wife uses her phone for facebook and texting. She doesn't have any data heavy apps. Any ideas on what do to stop this from continuing?
Maybe try turning off location services or maybe try backing up everything and do a factory reset?

That was my next option, but I'd rather not have to go through that. Anyone else have anything? Are there apps that could tell me which "google service" was the data hog?

I am having the same problem. I just tried disabling app data sync under Google account settings. Let's see if that helps... I use Titanium backup to back up apps and app data anyways...

I tried doing that, and disabiling background data for it through battery manager, but that eliminates all google sync. I eventually just backed things up and moved on to a newer rom. Like I said, it is my wife's phone and didn't feel like trying to figure out the root cause. If it were my phone, I'd be more patient. Hopefully you can find an answer. 500MB a day is nuts. Glad we're on "unlimited" with StraightTalk.
My brother and I just got the same problem as well. He has been on Paranoid for over 3 months and just yesterday Google Services used up 1.5gb out of no where (in a few hours). Just today, im on Carbon, my Google Services used up 500mb (in a few hours). Thankfully, I noticed that my battery was going too fast so I went in and turnd off background data for Google Services.
Any one have an idea of what is going on?
I noticed this problem on my phone a couple of weeks ago and asked about it here. Unfortunately no one knows what's really going on.

System Update Issue
I've noticed this same issue since i updated all my Google Play applications last 07/30. Before the update, I did not have this high bandwidth consumption.
Anyways, i've been researching in my phone and tried the following solutions:
First, I restricted Google Services background data, this did not work, it was still consuming my data. So I kept researching and found something interesting, i went to About Phone - System Update, and noticed my phone was consistently trying to update to 4.3 JB (which is 183 MB), and after the download was complete, then a "verification failed" error message was displayed.
At this point, i thought, This is probably the cause i've been losing all of my data. I am running ParanAndroid along with franco kernel for some time, maybe this is the reason the update is failing.
So, a rough solution i did to this meanwhile: Go to Settings -> Apps -> All and disable Google Services Framework, this will ensure that the update is not constantly being downloaded, however, many Google applications will have issues.
Guys I am facing such extremely annoying Google Services (DownloadManager in BBS) battery drain + mobile/wifi data usage issue and I have been searching for some hours.
First of all I have tried the most answered solution - clearing the data of all those stuffs related to Google Services - well it did not work so well.
Then I don't think freezing download manager / factory reset / restrict background data / disabling google services framework are good solutions as I myself did not make changes related to this recently so a factory reset should not be needed, plus the other mentioned solutions would cause syncing issues with Google and this doesn't suit my lifestyle of heavily depending on various google services.
Many of you have proposed that the massive download / repeated downloads are related to downloading the 4.3 OTA and that might be possible according to the similar file sizes as well as logcats you have found. But on the other hand one of the solution - disabling Network Locations settings has also stopped the "download" triangle from constantly staying there when my wifi is on. Therefore we can conclude that it is partially related to the 4.3 OTA download which cannot be disabled on our custom ROMs, as well as partially about the stock Network Location settings.
Fortunately after many posts that do not provide a feasible answer I have found this xda post which addresses the issue related to the Google Play Store 4.1.6. Some of the users have reported that 4.1.10 has fixed the issue and some even said the newest version 4.2.9 is over the internet since 25/7 together with 4.3 update.
Not sure why such critical update did not roll out to the unluckily bunch of us from Google, but I have found the Android Police source about 4.1.10 fixing the "Network Location bug which hogs the battery" and hopefully this will stop the DownloadManager wakelock as well as the crazy battery drain + data drain by Google Services.
I haven't tested this thoroughly because I will probably need a day to check out whether it stops the crazy behaviour but I would just like to share with you guys my founding as soon as possible so you guys can try it out together with me. The latest Google Play Store 4.2.9 apk can be downloaded from Android Police here.
Hope I have helped! Good luck to you and me!

Hi and thanks for sharing your investigation and findings so far. I looked at my Nexus 4 tonight and saw that it had downloaded 500mb over 3G so I disabled it and started searching for an answer. Definitely looks to be the OTA 4.3 issue, but installing Play Store 4.2.9 has done nothing for me. My phone has just sucked down another 500mb over WiFi under the "Google Play Services" heading and shows no signs of stopping.
I'm running CM 10.1 stable - really need a fix for this because otherwise I can't enable 3G without burning my whole quota in short order.
Darn, had this same problem, in one day 500mb over 3G.... Thats not cool.
Recently installed a new ROM, Cyanogenmod 10.1, and I think I found the problem. The gallery app was synching all photo's on my G+ account it seems.
Hope I nailed it, because we just went on holiday today and I need my data for finding information etcetrea. But I think this is it, as I can view photo's from vacations made decades ago whoile phone is in airplanemode...
Hope this helps others with this problem...
This is exactly the root cause. I've just lost a gig on 3G today. I'm on wifi now and update just keeping download & verification fail loop. I'm on PA Rom.

Here's how to disable the OTA download on any ROM
Install Autorun Manager from the Play store.
Then enter its recommended advanced mode.
Go into the settings and enable the following : system entries and system app disable.
Disable com.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Reciever under Google Service Framework
It would be great if the OP could be updated with this

You can try this
It is definitely something to do with the 4.3 update. I was on PA 3.6 (Android 4.2.2) and had this problem. After upgrading my phone to Android 4.3 on the latest PA, I no longer have this issue. I think it is a problem in the ROM where they tried to remove the OTA feature, but instead it still tries to download the ROM via 3G in the background. Don't quote me on the above, but that is the only thing that makes sense to me!
Since I've reached my limit for the month (and I'm not even half way through doh), I have had to disable Mobile Data otherwise I would have had a hefty bill come through!

No, factory data reset will not revert it to android 4.3 or any other previous version, it'll remain 5.0. All your user data such as pics, videos and music and app settings and customisations will be lost, so you'll have to set up your phone from scratch again.
Thanks. Is it possible to install kitkat 4.4 version.

Yes of course. Download the factory image of 4.4 and flash in bootloader but doing so will wipe your data not wiping data will be buggy. So backup your data first if you can. Heres guide on how to flash factory images.

You can also also try go through a toolkit

You have similar issues to me, got another thread running but no suggestions yet unfortunately;
Well my Nexus 4 has had Lollipop for 2.5 days now, its probably had 50 reboots, cleared the cache twice, uninstalled most of the apps and changed those drawing options.
In that time I've managed a couple of hours of Spotify, composed half a post on here in the browser before it froze, and although its freezing less often, I cannot seem to access my photos at all, Google Play, G Now, G +, the Youtube App, Gmail are all inaccessible. No successful calls or texts, and I can't even view my phone book for more than half a second before it shuts. Consistently struggles to get mobile reception and mobile data is even rarer.
I'm sure that on Kitkat I was given the option between two default launchers, and I changed it as one of the apps (I think it was misshaps which displays contact info after the lockscreen times out in case the phone is lost) didn't play nicely with one of them. But on Lollipop I can't see how to change it back, the Internet wants me to install a launcher thing from Google Play but I can't as Google Play won't open!
And the biggest problem? Although my laptop makes a sound when I plug my phone into it, and my phone knows it is connected as a media device, it won't show up on the computer so I can't back up my photos before doing a full reset. (I know I know, should have done it before but didn't think to do it!)
Any suggestions? I haven't checked to see how much is backed up to Google drive yet and currently the phone is frozen on its lock screen...

Ok Google not working...

Guys sorry for new thread but my zenwatch is doing my nut in, since yesterday the ok Google doesn't work and even if I scroll across to app and I tap it it just says off line. My phone is connected to Internet and watch gets notifications ok it's just the Google side that's fu*ked.
Tried factory reset on watch and repairing but no joy.
Any help appreciated.
I have exactly the same problem with my moto 360 (2014)
Hopefully it´s working again soon
Hmmmm not sure to be happy or sad

Data gets stored for Android Wear in "Google Play Services," so even though you factory reset the watch, there may be something left over in the data stored in Google Play Services that's causing trouble.
I'm not sure if this would work, but you could try unpairing the watch from your phone, then go to your phone's Settings, and go to "Application Manager." Go to All apps, and then clear data /cache on Android Wear Companion App, then uninstall it.
Then clear data/cache on your Google App ( this one here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox ).
Now go down to "Google Play Services" and clear cache. Then go into Manage Space and clear All data which should get rid of any leftover Android Wear data.
Now factory reset the watch again.
Reboot your phone and reinstall Android Wear Companion App from the Play Store. Now pair your watch back up with with the phone and set it back up again, including setting the Google App back up. (Your phone and watch should pair up all of the Wear Apps that you left on the phone before you uninstalled Android Wear Companion App... though you may have to go into some of the wear apps to toggle some settings off/on again to get everything to work correctly.
Hopefully this will fix the problem with Ok Google not working. If it does - great... if not, you've not really lost anything. There also may be an easier way to fix this, so maybe someone else will chime in with other ideas.
Update.
I factory reset the watch and phone, and still the OK Google doesn't work and still says off line when I tap the Google icon in apps.
Notification working OK still.
If anyone has any other ideas please share

I know you factory reset the phone, but did you choose to allow Google to restore apps and data when you were setting it back up? It might have restored data back into Google Play Services. Also... did you ever try wiping cache and data in Google Play Services like I detailed above? I've had trouble with Google Play Services causing other syncing and pairing issues for me... so that's why I'm thinking you could try clearing that out as a possible solution.
If those steps don't fix things for you, it may be worth it to try to revert to an earlier version of the "Google App" and or the Android Wear app. You can get older versions of those apps from the website "APK Mirror."
Hey, thanks for your reply. I've tried all of the above. The back up I restored this time was from my tab s and still no joy. I may try again in a day or two and not restore from any device., though I'll probably wait until Wednesday just to see if it fixes itself.
Thanks again for your time.

Quick update just in case it saves someone factory reset their phone (which I did and didn't help).
I have a work note 2 so I installed android wear on it, reset the watch and still no ok Google functionality, so it must be something Google did.
Will post again when fixed, also my 42mm moto 360 arrives today so I'm hoping the issue is zenwatch specific, I'll let you know.

Update2.
So my new moto 360 42mm SmartWatch arrived and I love it, has steel band and looks fab.
Ok Google is working for queries and replying to messages if I try to instigate a message say whatsapp or text it can't find the contact, even though it recognises the speech.
Starting to lose faith with Google.

Issues with Google apps. Anyone else???

I'm using the NotSoStock ROM for the T-Mobile V20 version 6.5. I haven't had any issues this entire time but of recent randomly my Google app won't work. When I open it the wheel just spins with no message or indication of connecting to Google. Google Assistant will not respond to OK Google. Voice to text won't work on GBoard. The Google search bar won't work. My play store is fine Gmail is fine just seems to be everything related to the new installment of Google Assistant stops working. I'm not using greenify. I haven't installed anything different since getting this ROM running. It hasn't been updated since I've rooted. Only thing I've downloaded was a theme from the playstore. I thought maybe that was it so I removed it and went back to stock but it did it again later on in the evening after being perfect all day. Sometimes if I close all apps it will connect when reopening. But other times I have to reboot the phone. I've wiped cache and dalvik cache. Wiped app data and cache. I've tried changing the ignore status of Google services framework so it's never put to deep sleep in the settings baked into stock LG UI. I can't figure this out and it's frustrating. Can anyone help or at least let me know I'm not alone and maybe this is a Google server issue.
I have had similar behavior with Google assistant acting up, again just very recently and it used to be flawless. Must be Google update version issue. Maybe we can roll back to previous version?
I'm having the issue with the missing voice to text on Gboard. It's also missing from lgboard and I'm not able to add it to the board under settings because the mic icon doesn't exist. I know gapps is the issue, but I have no idea why. Looking for a solution.
What solved it for me was signing up for Google play services beta and the Google app beta. Been flawless since.
I'm on a stock Verizon Google pixel. W/ unlocked bootloader. I started having this issue as well. Will try to see about the beta thing you mentioned.
The only short term solution I've found is restarting my phone. But otherwise it's really inconvenient.
Hasn't seemed I've been happening as much. But my Google assistant and or Google Voice search would freeze I would have to reboot the phone to get it to work again. I'm stock Verizon v20
Gotta be an issue on Google end. Hopefully they fix it soon

S7 Edge Notification Delay and A Lot of Other Problems

Recently I am having notification delays with my S7 Edge G935F. I have read through some posts on this forum and other sources and can't figure it out.
Here are some of the problems:
1. notifications are often delayed for more than thirty minutes
2. if I want to manually check notification when it does not pop up, unlocking the screen does not make the notification show, I have to actually launch the specific app to see the notification
3. It is more than just not showing the notification, when I am using some instant messaging apps (like WeChat), I can't see new messages coming in while the app is running in the front. I have to press the home button and get back to home screen, then re-enter the app, then the messages show up. This happens to many other apps as well.
4. Other things go wrong as well. For example, my Android Auto was set to launch whenever I get into my car and car bluetooth is connected. It is also delayed, by more than hours. It often launches long after I finish my driving and get back home sitting on my couch.
5. Downloading new apps from Play Store has problems as well. It downloads to 100% and just stops there, it does not start installation. I have to use Settings->App to kill Play Store and re-open it to "refresh" it, then it starts to install.
6. After installation of new app, it does not show up on my screen or app draw inside my launcher. I can see the app installed in Play Store. I have to kill launcher and re-open the launcher to make it "refresh" the app list then I can see new app inside the app draw.
I have also tried a lot of ways to fix it:
1. change app to not battery optimized -> didn't fix it
2. update firmware -> didn't fix it
3. factory reset -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
4. flash to a different firmware (official ROM in different regions) -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
5. use third-party ROM (Lineage OS) -> completely fix the problem, but too buggy to use
I can see the general idea of what's going wrong, some events happened (connected to car Bluetooth, new messages coming, app finished downloading, new app installed, etc.) and the system is not responding correctly. I am not very familiar with Android development but I feel like something is wrong with the "event handling" or "event raising" inside Samsung's Android system.
Please post reply if you have any idea or are facing the similar problems.
EDIT:
The phone is on Android 7.0, Build Number NRD90M.G935FXXU1DQER
You've stated that flashing the custom ROM solved the problem, so maybe you should try flashing a different rom that's a bit more stable.
From personal experience i can recommend the SuperStock rom. It's stock (obviously) and it's debloated and very stable with pretty good battery life as far as i remember.
there is some info about it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/want-to-root-custom-one-stay-stock-t3631098?styleid=18 (ignore the root part).
Hi,
did you find any solution to this problem ? cause i got the same problem, and i'm going crazy... few months already and can't figure out what is the problem...
the temporary fix i've found is disabling the "google app" in application manager... it fix the problem but i can't use any Google app features (and i like using them...).
I've found few ppl experiencing the same problem searching on internet but no one with a real fix...
if someone more experienced can help debut this it would really mean a lot...
I think it is the battery optimization setting. You may check the settings>battery>advanced settings>optimize apps. You need to keep the apps un-optimized if you want the notifications and sync.
Also, you may check if Sync is on or off.
If these two does not solve, factory reset if you are on stock ROM. If on a custom ROM, you may check a different ROM
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Actually none of this works... The only thing that "fixes" the issue is disabling the Google app in the application manager... That's why its so weird...
The problem started around July/August 2017 for me...
As i discovered that disabling Google was fixing the problem, i assumed that they'll correct it by updating the app... But only one update of the app was ok, all others would make the problems reappear...
Messing with battery optimization settings doesn't change anything for me... Factory reset as well... The problem comes back as soon as the google app gets updated...
Try clearing cache and deleting data from the Google app the time the problem occurs
already tried... doesn't help at all...
