It was a nationwide outage. Im just north of you in Wisconsin and we had no voice for a few hours. Still able to use LTE while voice was out

Im in CT and experienced 6 straight days where my phone would show an LTE connection but had no data connectivity. Their 3g network still worked but you had to manually set your phone to only use 3g. Otherwise it would auto connect to the LTE that was not transmitting data. Their customer support was mainly useless, it took 5 phone calls before they finally put me through to someone who finally admitted they were having major network problems.

I was with my friend today, and his web was really slow. Even on 4g WiMax. I did a speed test and it was about 30KB/s.
Any ideas?

Welcome to Sprint, home of the unlimited turtle data.
Seems Sprint is working just fine here for me. 1.02Mbps 3G.
Sprint is every bit as good.

A couple of things might be an issue here, First off, I am on Sprint myself, and my data speeds are quite good when I am in an area with at-least two (2) signal bars, one of the first things you should have your friend do is to make sure his firmware, profile, and PRL are updated by going into the "Settings," "About Phone," then the System Update tab. After those are updated, I would power the phone off then back on, and see if the speed has increased at all.
A couple of tools you can use to do that are Speedtest.net's app, Open Signal Maps app (a handy little utility), NetMonitor (similar to Open Signal) and CellPhone Coverage (similar to the Open Signal and NetMoniter but with some extras) beyond that make sure he has a good strong signal, or use wifi if possible. Good Luck.
all of these are from google's play store
Speedtest.net

Open Signal Maps
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.staircase3.opensignal&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
NetMonitor
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.parizene.netmonitor#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDUwMSwiY29tLnBhcml6ZW5lLm5ldG1vbml0b3IiXQ
Cell Phone Coverage Map
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootmetrics#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDUwMSwiY29tLnJvb3RtZXRyaWNzIl0
He has full bars, and speedtest does 50KB/s>. I tried updating the profile, PRL, and so on.
Myself, on Virgin Mobile, sane PRL as him, and I get better data speeds...
Also easiest root method?

Hi,
Before messing with my Nexus 4 (running rooted stock 4.2.2 with Franco Kernel M1), is there a way or a specific app to check for LTE signal in my area?
Thanks!

There is no app I know of that can test for a signal your phone isn't set to receive, you'd have to set it up for LTE first. And if you don't live in one of the 7 major cities T-Mobile just turned LTE on in or in Canada then you don't have LTE you can use anyways.
With Verizon you can check for their list of LTE coverage and find out if its in the area and go from there. Its almost everywhere now but back in the Thunderbolt days lots of people did that.
A quick Google search would get you started.

Verizon's current LTE network isn't compatible with this phone. They eventually will build out their existing LTE network using AWS but that is a long way off and it still most likely won't work with the Nexus.

I guess I will have to do some testing. I live nearby the T-Mobile HQ , still not officially covered by LTE but I saw an article by OpenSignal stating that there was some LTE activity nearby...

Open Signal is a crowd sourcing app and relies upon user input to give data about available towers and unfortunately no one in my city has used the app so there isn't any tower data available. So not really sure if it can give useful info as to if a tower has LTE, HSPA+ or whatever else may be around. If you live near T-Mo's Headquarters it may be worthwhile doing the LTE fix just to check as it can always be reversed.
Flash the. 33 radio set up apn and go into phone information choose network type lte and run speed test

FYI just because you are in one of the launch markets doesn't mean every tower has live LTE yet so if by have everything set up and you're not getting LTE doesn't mean you did it wrong.

I know for a fact that Sprint's LTE works in NYC because I've used it before. Since I've exchanged my S4 I haven't been able to connect to LTE at all. I've even checked ##3282# and it says LTE is enabled and I've gone to settings>more networks > mobile networks>network mode and have CDMA/LTE/EVDO checked off. What could possibly be the issue?

Have you tried updating your PRL and profile yet? Menu/settings/more/system updates
****'ll Buff Out
I'm in the NYC area and lte is spotty at beat. Hell, I usually get it in my house but sometimes it will drop for no reason, than it won't come back up for 5 to 10 minutes.
There are times when I'm riding the train and there is a 4G signal but there's no connection to the 4G network.
Does your show 4g on the screen at all?
Have you checked the Sprint forums for NYC?

The Evo 3d used wimax not LTE. This phone is LTE not wimax. Do you even have LTE in your area yet. Most places don't. Go to settings, connections, more networks, mobile networks, network mode should say LTE. Make sure your prl and profile are up to date if you are in a LTE area.

According to this map http://ltemap.org/tmobile there are LTE towers in Carrollton and Garland, which means I should be getting LTE in the Plano area. I have the .33 radio flashed, the APN right, and set to LTE/GSM but I'm still not getting LTE? Do the tower signals really not bleed into Plano or am I not doing something right with my phone? I'm on Carbonrom 5/25 nightly. Thanks

You also have to enable LTE on your nexus, unless you jump through hoops, it has to be done every boot because the device resets itself to wcdma preferred. Dial *#*#4636#*#* and hit phone information. Then scroll down until you see a pulldown with "wcdma preferred" and change it to gsm/CDMA/LTE. It then will take good 5 minutes to connect usually. After that initial long time, it usually connects pretty quick if you lose signal.

Maybe they are still testing? Back in March I ended up enabling LTE on my nexus because DC area was supposed to have it up and I got LTE at my house, just no bars to go with it. So when I would test, it was around 7mbps or would drop the signal, would not work anywhere else really, and was spotty. I disabled it and the. In early may decided to try again. Now, anywhere I go I get really good LTE speeds, signal rarely drops. I would say that I'm connected about 95% of the time, and I'm up and about the city a lot, or Virginia even.

You also need an LTE enabled SIM, and if you already have one, you may need to sort things out with the carrier. I know some my American friends had trouble getting LTE to work on AT&T using Blackberries imported from Canada, even though they had LTE sims and LTE plans - they had to call up AT&T and jump through a few hoops. Also at least on AT&T and Canadian carriers, prepaid plans aren't allowed to access LTE (lame) so if you're on prepaid that could be the problem. I don't know anything about TMo, but I'm guessing they may have similar bureaucratic BS to AT&T.
UK EE 4G network in Nottingham.
I have in my work building 2 bars of 4G signal every now and then it switches to the E symbol giving me very slow Internet.
The way to get my phone to wake up and use 4G I have to do the following.
Settings network search.
EE is at the top of the list of available networks. Then 3 other UK networks and then the bottom one is EE again.
I have to select the bottom EE network and wait for it to register. Still no 4G only E.
Then I have to search the networks again and select the top EE network and then it works!?
What do you think the problem is?
I've rang EE and there Is no network issues.
I'm waiting for a call back today at 4pm.
I've been told I can exchange my handset as I'm only 8 days into my new contract.
I'm just a little worried about swapping for a hot running handset as mine is perfect other than the above issue.
Thoughts please

Really well that's interesting. I don't know weather to cancel my replacement or not? The lady I spoke to said that the iPhone had the same problem a while ago but a update fixed it. Not sure if she meant a network update or a ios one

There's no point in getting another handset, I've had my second GS4 now and I am having an identical problem on EE. It seems fine until you make a call or receive a call sometimes it stays connected to 3G during the call and switches to E at the end and sometimes it just switches to E at the end. I can't then get 3G or 4G at all just E! This sometimes lasts hours and no amount of resetting the network can get it back, paying an awful lot a month for this :crying:
