I know for a fact that Sprint's LTE works in NYC because I've used it before. Since I've exchanged my S4 I haven't been able to connect to LTE at all. I've even checked ##3282# and it says LTE is enabled and I've gone to settings>more networks > mobile networks>network mode and have CDMA/LTE/EVDO checked off. What could possibly be the issue?

Have you tried updating your PRL and profile yet? Menu/settings/more/system updates
****'ll Buff Out
I'm in the NYC area and lte is spotty at beat. Hell, I usually get it in my house but sometimes it will drop for no reason, than it won't come back up for 5 to 10 minutes.
There are times when I'm riding the train and there is a 4G signal but there's no connection to the 4G network.
Does your show 4g on the screen at all?
Have you checked the Sprint forums for NYC?

Oddly enough I didn't think to do that. I'll sww if it works this weekend. Contacted sprint too and they refreshed the services on my account. They said if it doesn't work then let them know.

I did this and when i check my LTE shows as disabled. Is there anything i can do to turn this bad boy on? I used to get 4G at my job site with my Evo 3D and now i don't even get 4G with my Galaxy 4S. I called Sprint and they told me is not a good service area but i don't bite it cause i used to get full bars on 4g and now nothing.
Any ideas guys??

The Evo 3d used wimax not LTE. This phone is LTE not wimax. Do you even have LTE in your area yet. Most places don't. Go to settings, connections, more networks, mobile networks, network mode should say LTE. Make sure your prl and profile are up to date if you are in a LTE area.

Hi,
Before messing with my Nexus 4 (running rooted stock 4.2.2 with Franco Kernel M1), is there a way or a specific app to check for LTE signal in my area?
Thanks!

There is no app I know of that can test for a signal your phone isn't set to receive, you'd have to set it up for LTE first. And if you don't live in one of the 7 major cities T-Mobile just turned LTE on in or in Canada then you don't have LTE you can use anyways.
With Verizon you can check for their list of LTE coverage and find out if its in the area and go from there. Its almost everywhere now but back in the Thunderbolt days lots of people did that.
A quick Google search would get you started.

Verizon's current LTE network isn't compatible with this phone. They eventually will build out their existing LTE network using AWS but that is a long way off and it still most likely won't work with the Nexus.

Open Signal is a crowd sourcing app and relies upon user input to give data about available towers and unfortunately no one in my city has used the app so there isn't any tower data available. So not really sure if it can give useful info as to if a tower has LTE, HSPA+ or whatever else may be around. If you live near T-Mo's Headquarters it may be worthwhile doing the LTE fix just to check as it can always be reversed.
Flash the. 33 radio set up apn and go into phone information choose network type lte and run speed test

FYI just because you are in one of the launch markets doesn't mean every tower has live LTE yet so if by have everything set up and you're not getting LTE doesn't mean you did it wrong.

According to this map http://ltemap.org/tmobile there are LTE towers in Carrollton and Garland, which means I should be getting LTE in the Plano area. I have the .33 radio flashed, the APN right, and set to LTE/GSM but I'm still not getting LTE? Do the tower signals really not bleed into Plano or am I not doing something right with my phone? I'm on Carbonrom 5/25 nightly. Thanks

You also have to enable LTE on your nexus, unless you jump through hoops, it has to be done every boot because the device resets itself to wcdma preferred. Dial *#*#4636#*#* and hit phone information. Then scroll down until you see a pulldown with "wcdma preferred" and change it to gsm/CDMA/LTE. It then will take good 5 minutes to connect usually. After that initial long time, it usually connects pretty quick if you lose signal.

Maybe they are still testing? Back in March I ended up enabling LTE on my nexus because DC area was supposed to have it up and I got LTE at my house, just no bars to go with it. So when I would test, it was around 7mbps or would drop the signal, would not work anywhere else really, and was spotty. I disabled it and the. In early may decided to try again. Now, anywhere I go I get really good LTE speeds, signal rarely drops. I would say that I'm connected about 95% of the time, and I'm up and about the city a lot, or Virginia even.

You also need an LTE enabled SIM, and if you already have one, you may need to sort things out with the carrier. I know some my American friends had trouble getting LTE to work on AT&T using Blackberries imported from Canada, even though they had LTE sims and LTE plans - they had to call up AT&T and jump through a few hoops. Also at least on AT&T and Canadian carriers, prepaid plans aren't allowed to access LTE (lame) so if you're on prepaid that could be the problem. I don't know anything about TMo, but I'm guessing they may have similar bureaucratic BS to AT&T.
I had this problem with note 2 as well,
Maybe its bells network issue but
My phone is most of the time connected to h+ rather than lte.
I surf on the web or on youtube on lte then shotly after h+ kicks in. I live in downtown toronto.
Anyone else have a problem? Maybe i should change my device?

I checked the coverage map. You were right about that.
Why don't you go to a store around downtown toronto and try out a device. Compare yours and the display one.
Download Speedtest for comparison, make sure they are on the same server when you do check. Also check the signal strength in the Settings -> More -> About device -> Status and compare it.
If you notice anything different, you can show it to them right away.

So I have a Galaxy S4 Sgh-i337m (Canadian version) that have a custom recovery(clockwork touch 6) and is rooted. On that phone I have cyanogenmod 10.2 and I've been trying to get an LTE speed without success. I've seen the posts that tell me to change my apn but it haven't work. Currently when I switch data on I either get 4G or H+. I made speed test and the maximum I got is 10MBPS normally it should be around 30 to 75MBPS. So can someone help me get LTE speeds here's a photo of my current APN?
Could be a bunch of issues. Is the network mode set correct? I have noticed at times it is set to 4G to save battery. I have had times after flashing a ROM not connecting to the lte towers until after making a call. Another fix is resetting to default in apn.

Unless they've added an LTE symbol...on CyanogenMod 4G means LTE.
On touchwiz when it displays 4G its pretty much H+, Samsung just likes to make it look better
However you are right...your speed tests aren't lte speeds

When you see 4G on the status bar go to settings >about device>status. Network type should say umts% for 3g, hspda% for hspa+ or lte% for LTE (The % represents a frequency). Then you'll know for sure.

Yes it means that you have lte. The reason why your dl speed is so slow could be your reception or it could be your on wifi

These issues apply to T-Mobile users installing the current build of 4.4 (and possibly other GSM carriers but I don't have an ATT SIM to test). Motorola is aware of the issue. I read these forums pretty thoroughly and I've been answering these questions all over so I figured I'd just put them all one place. Issues as follows:
- Devices with the LTE radio active cannot send SMS
- Devices with the LTE radio active cannot send MMS (Carrier/Settings dependent)
- Devices with the LTE radio active cannot make phone calls and instantly disconnects on call attempt.
Urban Legends:
- Stock tethering does not work - I have personally tested on TMO and know it does work. Yer doin' it wrong.
Fixes
Easiest fix for now if you're on a device running 4.4 and want to... you know... be able to use your phone... is to use phone information and switch the radio mode over to GSM Only (not the auto one). This fix is a little finicky because if the phone realizes it's not running in the mode selected on your mobile networks screen it will override and turn LTE back on if you haven't selected UMTS only.
Full steps are:
Mobile network settings - Change network mode to LTE/GSM/UMTS
Mobile network settings - Select network UMTS Only
Install app linked below
Open Phone Info and select GSM Only
Phone info apk for sideload - http://www.mediafire.com/download/284l17ry2ok1yuk/Phone_info_1.3.apk
I'll update this thread as I discover more issues or as people post issues that can be replicated below.
Thank you. Finally I got the LTE turn off.
I gotta switch the mobile mode to LTE/UMTS/ gsm and select network as UMTS only. Then use phone info choose gsm only.

It was selecting GSM Only in Phone Info. Switched it to GSM auto (PRL) and I got HSPA+ back.
but Seriously dude. thanks for this info. I was tired of using my Moto G while my MAXX was just collecting Dust.
Edited the OP for a more clear fix. Thank you to vuphongkkk for pointing out the UMTS only.
I'm on T-Mobile and live in an HSPA+ refarmed area (NYC), but there are places I go on a regular basis that aren't refarmed. I set it on "WCDMA preferred" and voila, I have both 2 & 3G connectivity, with preference given to 3G.
I can't post links, but this XDA thread explains it in more detail I think: ... showthread.php?t=688492
Vodafone confirmed for anyone wondering.
H+ for UMTS only,
Edge for global.

APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
You can uninstall it if you want. It's extremely small though so no reason to do so unless you just don't want to see the icon. Uninstalling will NOT reset your settings.

Thanks! I messed myself all up though.
In android mobile network settings should I have network mode as global, LTE/CDMA or LTE/gsm/umts?
If its LTE/gsm/umts do I still use gsm only under select network?
And if I leave phone info installed do I have to change anything on there for LTE to work? Phone info seems to change the network selection in the app on its own so I just stopped messing with it. Thanks and sorry to be a pain

If you on 4.4 you don't have to change anything to have LTE work on your phone. Follow step by step from the beginning of the thread to turn off LTE

Sent from my XT1080 using xda app-developers app
4.2.2 rarely get LTE data. Choose network mode as LTE/gsm/UMTS . select network as automatic. Don't use the phone info. If you already use the phone info app in this thread then use it again to switch back to LTE/gsm.. Or the option that has evething.
Remember to add APN fast.t-mobile.com
But as I mentioned, 4.2.2 has some problem with the radio , so it rarely pick up LTE
