HTC Desire 820S battery life - Desire 820 General

Hey guys, please all the users of desire 820s here can share their battery life? Cause im very unhappy with mine.
Cant complete a single day with full recharge and moderate use.
Sent from my H60-L04 using XDA Free mobile app

I have the 820 and i can get easily 2 days.
If you use games and youtube, the battery will drain rapidly, of course.
Have you tried the Battery Saving mode under Settings?
The phone won't get laggy at all and the battery lasts a lot longer.
I have always used the Battery Saving mode on all my HTC devices.
Greenify is a another sleek app which can put certain apps to sleep like facebook.
That disables also the app notifications, but your battery will thank you.
I hope I could help you.

820s used MTK cpu while regular 820 used s610. Not sure if any different there regarding battery life but sometimes MTK even more battery friendly than Qualcomm cpu. Please notice that if you get used the dual sim function in 820s, I think it will spend extra battery too.

I don't have the device, just stalking the page to observe the development, or lack thee of in this case. But there will possibly, be a striking difference in battery life since all the new quadcomm chips have been designed with battery life/battery management as a huge focus. .... no offence to mediateck but i'm not a huge fan, and have no real faith in their operation an overall longevity

The current Qualcomm 64bit architecture of s610/615/810 isn't battery friendly, that's why the battery life on 820/826 isn't good.

Yes the battery life of desire 820s is a bit mediocre. But otherwise the phone is awesome & I am loving it. ☺

I hate that it does not have the full sense version. Crappy music player, no weather app. no power saving modes, no notification bar toggle management are some of the flaws that I am coming across my new purchase. Even I would've gone with the qualcomm version had I known this before.
Edit: And like you said, battery life is poor to say the least with up to three charges required in a day!!!

Let's hope that when the lollipop update will arrive for desire 820s it will address these issues. Kitkat ain't really optimized for 64 bit processor so maybe lollipop would improve battery life.

Really? I thought it had those two things. What I've read on the net is that the only difference is that it has a superior processor when compared to the desire 820 model.

I'll take it back. HTC does mention on it's website that it has BoomSound speakers but I didn't find any toggle on my phone that I could see on the Desire 820.

The sound quality is still pretty good though. The only main issue with this model is that it isn't really getting much attention from the xda developers. Otherwise the design & specs of this phone are pretty awesome IMHO.

just picked up a used G2..does overclocking make a huge diffrcence?

i have always rooted and overclocked my androind phones. got a g2, and was not really happy with the stock performance. it seems like a lenghty rooting process so i wanted to ask before i did it.
1. how much happier are you with your G2 now overclocked and running custom rom? what ROM?
2. my hinge is kinda "soft" is yours?
3. my screen does not seem that responsive compared to other phones. yours?
im trying to like it

1) honestly it depends on what you do with your phone. if you use your phone as a 'phone,' then overclock does you no justice (ie messaging calls etc). If you do more than that, overclocking makes a huge difference. While the rooting process might seem lengthy to you, i'd say: do it!
2)my hinge is loose too but when i get off my arse and find a t5 torxdriver to open it up i'll put a new spring in and fix it (theres a tutorial thread on these forums regarding that)
3) i actually noticed with this phone that its grounded quite awkwardly. it doesnt respond if i place it down on certain materials and then touch it with only one finger. I have to hold the phone with one hand and touch with the other hand for completely accurate response (doesnt bother me cuz in real world situations i use both hands to hold a phone anyway)
despite its flaws, it does me a ton of justice! at least until some company releases a dualcore phone with a hardware keyboard, which i dont foresee happening anytime soon ; ;
Rooting is so simple with the G2. I did it all using the phone. Use the visionary temp root/g-free method.
I overclocked and the hinges got a hard on. Problem fixed

1. how much happier are you with your G2 now overclocked and running custom rom? what ROM?
Overclocked mine to 1.3GHz and is working great. Did get hit alittle on the battery side, but I then invested in a 1800mAh battery and it now has good stamina to last a day of full use. I have Virtuous 2.0.2 with the Advanced Kernel by RMK. Much better than having the stock ROM by far.
2. my hinge is kinda "soft" is yours?
Hinge is really a non-issue for me. Would I prefer it to be alittle stiffer? Sure, but this is how it was designed to function, alittle loose to have effortless opening and closing. Perhaps in the future I will perform the spring replacement, but it's really not a huge issue.
3. my screen does not seem that responsive compared to other phones. yours?
The only problem I have is dragging the notification bar down. There is usually a 1-3 second delay, but that is due to Sense running in the ROM I am using now. Other than that, no real issues with the screen. Definitely better than the Hero's screen!
The overclocking procedure might look long and intimidating (no 'that's what she said' quotes there!) but trust me, it's worth it. Whether it's through ADB or on the phone alone, it's really not that bad.

I read about bricked devices that used Visionary and most of them used the perm root option in Visionary. I only did a temp root and used g-free to perm root.
Safest and easiet way for people who don't have a computer.

This is true yes. But when I first rooted my phone I didn't know the risks of using visionary, and was just using it for permanent root. Then when I was using the gfree method, I had to use permanent root though visionary to make it work for some reason. Now that I know the risks I doubt I would ever use visionary again

I do not really feel anything. It doesnt make going through screens smoother or anything overall if you handed me a stock and an overclocked g2 i would not know the difference without benching it.
I was scared to root my $200 (at the time) G2, But once i did a lot of doors opened up. I love getting rid of the bloatware and having a custom firmware is pretty nice too. I had to hold my breath the first time it booted with root enabled. as for over clocking i don't really use unless i am running emulators or games which isn't that much. I do under clock my CPU when the battery < 16% and when the screen is off seems to save a lot of battery life.

The CPU clocks down automatically when screen-off, so that's not really necessary. And hopefully your battery is always more than 6%.

It typical of the stock as well as CM. The CPU clocks up and down as needed, unless you tell it otherwise. For instance, I think the Performance governor clocks the CPU at maximum MHz all the time.

+1 to that. Multi tasking is soo much faster and smoother with it overclocked

i recently started overclocking my phone and i've noticed a difference, i'm on temp root though
Temp rooted with visonary a while back. I got it just over 1400 and its very fast and the I can still squeeze out a lot of battery time thru the day. That and getting an average of over 9mbs down and 4 up at my apartment in austin tx rocks face.
Plus I think temp rooting is better so I can reboot if I need to warranty out the phone.
Oh G2 how that g2x looks so good..

Want my stats for my battery life?

If you had high screen on time, then it would be impressive. Not trying to be mean but its common sense that anything that uses a battery will get long life when you don't or barely use the device.

Yes I understand what you mean. I guess its my fault for not being very clear. Normally I get bad battery life but I noticed this major increase and thought I'd share. Here's a list of what's been done with these screenshots:
-full brightness
-1 hour plus of gameplay straight
-45 minutes of text and calls(10 seconds of screen on for texts and screen is off for calls *bluetooth*)
-30 minutes of music(screen is off)
Maybe I should be a little more specific of what I've done. Juice defender claims its increased my life by 2.13x. My fault I wasn't specific.

The only thing I'm confused on is you said you played games for an hour straight, but there doesn't appear to be any place where it looks like the screen was on for an hour straight. I mean, 8h of timing, an hour would be slightly more than a 10% bar in the stats, and there doesn't appear to be anything showing that.

And what you were doing. There is a BIG difference between playing a game on your phone for 4 hours and surfing the web or XDA for 4 hours. 3G data eats up a ton of battery especially in low signal areas. I can get 4 hours screen on time on CM9 as long as I stay on wifi but throw 3G in and a 2 1/2 hours is more like it.

If time wasn't in the question then yes I could. I made apple apps but I'm sure android is nothing like it. I don't even have enough time to flash a new modem... I'll tell you what, if I ever get the time to do this I promise you I will make an app similar to this. If I ever get the time it will bet in at least 12 years due to school. All valid points, however, due to all of these points, you cannot make your own app. So what's wrong with supporting a developer that has different life circumstances that allow them to create an app that makes your life easier so you don't have to worry about it and can focus on the things that are REALLY important to you?

I9100XXLPQ (4.0.3) United Kingdom (H3G)

Hmmmmm has anyone loaded and tested ICS for UK three network ? i believe it was released today at 0600am and is available to download from samfirmware, however im unable to log in ?servers full .............
I would be gobsmacked if its the same as the first lpq release (buggy), which I am still using and has given me poor poor poor battery life 1.6 days of light use..... and yes i did a full wipe , ive never used titanium i always start as a completely new setup, rooted and removed bloat.
its crazy how all us peeps on here spend so much time researching upgrading flashing rooting customizing tweaking reinstalling deleting and for what .... because lets face it the bottom line is the galaxy s2 will never have great battery life because 1. its screen size and 2. its battery
All I want from samsung is a minimalistic stable rom with great battery life
I actually cant believe all the blurry videos i've took of my daughter growing up with the galaxy s2 and then ICS comes along and for the most part fixes it ..... its crazy how on earth was the phone first released with such poo video recording well at least its better now
OMG are you sure that is lpq?

I'm using 3uk ics now.downloaded from check fuz and installed via mobile odin . Running smooth . It is lpq, but I was on polish lpq before and didn't have ANY of the issues you mentioned, I was also getting 3 days battery out of it... Think you should check your setup.

Wait, 1.6 days is considered poor battery life now?
Some people need to wind their neck in and realise advancements in battery tech is slow due to engineers and innovators struggling with the laws of physics, so until we get mini fusion reactors in our smartphones we will have to consider 20-24 hours of normal use before it needs juice the norm. They don't have the luxury of the Ipads size (which is just basically a massive smartphone.) to whack in a massive battery.
Either that or just buy a Nokia 6310.....

LPQ has poor battery life compared to uk generic 2.3.4 ki4 official rom which gave me around 3 days light use with the exact same setup.
I know car batterys are different from phone batterys but the advanced technology is there for both ! it is just slowly trickled out in harmoney with other consumer giants to keep the economy and there bank balance happy. i.e the commercial technology groups said hdtv would be the highest resolution physically possible on a screen yet they have produced 4k tvs ! they have had the affordable technolgy released in the ipad 3 when they released the first ipad ....its all clever marketing slowly trickled out
here is a link to read about car batterys that will run the car without the need of fuel that last longer than the life of the car and that have been patented by the big oil corporations like texaco TO NOT BE COMMERCIALLY RELEASED

I checked in software updates and it,is telling me there is an update just wondered it it will work or will I have to do it via kies

I got it running fine after a few issues with not being able to unzip it at first
It's noticeably smoother in general and some live wallpapers run with a better frame rate
Face unlocking works fine too
But God the 3 UK version is full of Bloatware so I may go back to my unbranded GB until they release a 4.0.3 version
I think Samsung are being lazy since this is XX but should be XW for the UK, anyway its a bag of sh1t and should never have been released on Kies, I guess the masses put them under pressure to release "something" and "something" we got.

[Discussion] The LG G5 discussion thread

Hello LG G5 users , feel free to talk here about anything related to the LG G5 :good:
Thread Rules
1. Respect the others
2. This is an LG G5 thread , do not talk about any other LG phone here.
3. Use appropriate langage.
4. And of course , respect xda rules.
So what do you think about this LG phone ?
Hi guys , thread opened thanks to @KennyG123 , now that the G5 is out and available for sale feel free to share your experience in this discussion thread.
I will update it later with infos , reviews , battery tests..etc.
Enjoy
This is my first impression of the G5 and I'm sure once the stock and custom roms start rolling out I will have a much better experience with my phone. I picked up my new LG G5 a hour ago from my local Sprint retailer and I have already run into a few problems that kind of bother me about the phone. I switched from my Nexus 6 to this phone and I would have to say I do enjoy the feel of the phone and the fact of it being smaller and easier to hold. This is the only good thing I have really noticed about the phone so far though. The volume rocker on the left side of the phone seems very strange and would be much more ergonomic with it remaining on the back or on the right side to be easily accessible with the thumb. The G5 does not have an app drawer with the current software even though there were leaks saying that they were actually going to end up adding the app drawer for this phone. The software seems as if it went for a more Apple style design with a more vivid color scheme. I ended up looking through some of the apps and there are advertisements in the voicemail app which just seems wrong. I have already ran into a bug which should be expected with any new release of a phone of course and this bug happens when I double tap on a notification on the lock screen it locks the screen instead of opening the application which I really hope wasn't the intended purpose. So far the phone isn't as great as I expected it to be.
@CorruptProfile Thank you very much sir for this first well detailed feedback.
How about other things like the camera , performance ( if you tried any intensive game ) ? Is it buttery smooth or LG 5.0 UX suffer from lags ?

Nope, there is a third option shown in the UX 5.0 video and confirmed by T-Mobile users

Look at 2:19
I only really play Clash of Clans as far as game intensive on my phone and it ran very smoothly for the little bit that I was on it. The camera is far superior to any phone I have had in the past and the quality is great. The option for the regular launcher with an app drawer does not exist on my device which is no problem since I do not like the launcher in general and the Google Now Launcher is far superior to LG's. The biggest problem I have started to see with the device now is the fact the battery is weak as can be. I'm not sure if there isn't enough data collected yet to give an accurate estimate on how long the battery will last. I took the first screenshot of the battery usage before I used any high usage applications and it already was showing that my phone would last an hour and 47 minutes when it was at 41%. I would add screenshots to this but, I don't have over 10 posts yet so that isn't possible so I sent them to @Soufiansky so he can post them instead.

What about the module thing ? I saw a lot of issues about it these days
Sent from my GT-P5100 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I don't own a module and I don't really see the purpose of owning one to be completely honest. It's basically just buying add-ons if you prefer having them or not. I enjoy having the naked look of a sleek looking phone without having a bunch of stuff all over it. It really comes down to the person if they want the parts or not and personally I don't the parts won't make the phone any worse and if the modules really just fail then it won't have any overall effect on the performance of the phone itself.

Excellent battery life, fluid interface, no heating or reboots, frequent updates. what more to ask? it's a phone not a DSLR. You will never get the picture quality of a dedicated hardware camera specially in low light conditions (although in recent updates, camera is now ok for me at least).
at JBMC83: just wow. can you share how you done it?
sure thing guys
- nova launcher with custom settings
- background via minima pro (tweaked "smoke" theme)
- marshmallow icon set through nova
- widgets: greenify, betterbatterystats, droidstats and weather & clock widget android

Wow , i have a different opinion about the phone ...
I have the nxt-l29 , 4 gb ram variant , and here's my unbiased opinion
Cons :
1- Phone always stutters , using apps like Facebook , chrome etc. It always stutters , even the emui also stutters , there's no lags or freeze while using the phone , but the stutter us there and it's really annoying , I disabled all the animations , and I'm using the default theme , but nothing worked out ...
2- The battery life is average , not what I would expect from a 4000 mAh , it's an average performer when using video playback and surfing the web , but it get worse when gaming , gaming drains the battery like crazy
3- the phone gets really hot when gaming and drains the battery even when it's plugged to it's charger !!!
4 - Wi-Fi signal is worse than my galaxy note devices
Pros :
1 - build quality is the best I've ever seen
2 - camera , although hardly as good as the Samsung , LG or iPhone , it's professional mode enabled me to get even better photos than it's competitors , it's super night mode is out of this world
The video quality is above average
3 - fingerprint sensor is amazing and I like it's multi functionality
So that's it for me , I'm not fluent in English , so forgive my bad English

Did you happen to put the phone in 'performance mode' to help combat stutter?
If I wasn't a tinkerer I probably wouldn't like this phone as much because the stock firmware doesn't handle apps with timers(lightflow, professional reminder) very well. I had to root and convert professional reminder to a system app to get it to work consistently and on time. Trusted places/devices is all but missing in settings. EMUI is definitely not polished. I can live with what is not there and I do love the device.
