Tempted by Nexus 6 - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

Now with the Nexus 6 on Verizon officially and VoLTE working on it, anyone else tempted by the Nexus 6? I really miss the time I had my Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. It was nice not having to wait for root or a BL unlock and tons of ROMs to choose from. Since that phone I seem to bounce from phone to phone never happy with what I have. So here I am with the Turbo looking at another phone after 6 months. The size and battery are the biggest factors that have me hesitating. Had the Note 2 once and ended up not liking the size. But since then I have gotten used to 4.3->5-5.1-5.2 screen sizes. So I wonder if I would just used to it. Even with root in sight (but no indication of the software version required) and 5.1 coming soon, I stil feel pulled to the Nexus and its no hassle tinkering.

The size makes me hesitate, as well as the battery as you've stated. For the openness I really think I'm gonna make the jump. Try and get a Nexus 6 and sell my Turbo.

I have a Moto X 2014 and went ahead and got the N6. My Moto X 2014 seems tiny to me now, lol! But I really miss all of the Moto extras like assist, active display and always listening and I miss my awesome leather back. My N6 is an ugly gray color, not a cool black leather back. And I can't find a case for the N6 that I like.

I can't count the number of times I have used "OK Moto Now, Find My Phone" to find my phone, lol! And I love having my texts read to me when driving not to mention being able to speak a reply and have an entire text conversation hands free while driving.

I know this won't help, but I believe Im headed for the N6 as well.

The most amazing thing to me is how quickly my N6 stopped feeling big and how quickly my Moto X 2014 started feeling small.
I don't have a holster yet for my N6, but when I do and try to wear it while I am out and about, I am guessing it will start feeling big to me again. And I don't see how I am going to use it while jogging. We shall see.

Too big, two cents.

I'm stuck only because the money required to switch is prohibitive. Aside from that, someone once said (I think it was adrenalyne) to vote with your wallet. Vote unlocked BL from the box. N6.

I got 500 for my turbo on swappa. What's a n6 cost? 550 I think? I dunno, could almost be an even trade. Or a small "upgrade" fee lol. I'm jumping ship to the s6. I know I know lol. N6 is to big for me. Besides battery that s6 is perfect to me! Thus far at least..my mind could change from now till then

I really don't know about the size. Yeah I have had the one 2 and 3. I really did enjoy the screen real estate. I just feel like the screen on the N6 is way too big. If BL unlock doesn't end up happening I will more than likely jump ship and get the Nexus 6 or Seygus V2(pending VZW's certification lol.)

Was it a 32GB or 64GB model? How much did you net after shipping, paypal and swappa fees? $460 or so?

OK so if you don't have access to someone who can bill their personal shipping costs to their work, lol! then you would have netted about $460 with shipping costs/insurance. And that doesn't include what you paid for the Droid Turbo. How much did you pay for the DT with sales tax and upgrade fee?

OK for those who don't have your wife to help them shop, lol!, they probably paid at least $200 + sales tax + upgrade fee for the 64GB, so about $255 or so depending on where you live. Deduct that from the $460 and you have $205 net profit. If the 64GB N6 is $745 with tax, that ends up being $540 OOP, which is a lot for many people.

Anyone know where I can get the Lapdock for cheap or anyone selling?

Let me know guys. Thanks!
Got one at best buy for $399 but its.going back. Its overrated.
With all the threads today I'm actually trying to decide whether or not to ship my iPhone offto Gazelle and return the Atrix.
Powerful phone and very responsive.
Just not wild about being at ATT and Motorola mercy for software update someday.

There are things I love/hate about both the iPhone and Atrix, so I'm seriously caught in the middle. Any thoughts about why I shouldn't ditch the Atrix yet? You said wait, but I'm not sure "what" you wanted me to wait for
Some are selling on ebay for around $350.
not spending 500 bucks...
I'm in with the "cheaper dock" thing
I want the dock, I find the idea to be genial, but I do not see why I should pay $500 for essentially a screen, a keyboard and a battery.
So, anyone know of a cheaper source (or when - if - prices eventually go down), let me know. I'll keep subscribed to this thread
As I mentioned. Best Buy - $399.00 ($100 off)
You can order it from Motorola for around 360; granted I took my Atrix back before I got a chance to use it.
I love the idea but a lot of reviews and people with first hand experience said it was a little laggy.
If it was 200 bucks I'd grab one today though.

Not anymore, you can't. It is not available anymore in Moto's online store. Before they took the accessory down, they bumped up the price again to US$499.
Not sure if I even want to spend 400 bucks on it (bestbuy). I personally think that is still too much for this piece of hardware.
It's $299 from ATT after a $100 MIR. I can't post links yet, but just search for lapdock and it comes up.

Only applies for people on an AT&T plan. Where this does not apply, this is the same price as letstalk.com.
Thanks for pointing it out though, this is another place to order. And a good deal for AT&T customers
It seems the Lapdock is now on sale in Canada for a mere CAD 330 (as opposed to US$ 399 being the cheapest in US). Unfortunately, it seems futureshop does not ship internationally, so it seems there is no way for me to order it from there.
This, however, brings up an interesting pricing question: is Moto test-driving a different price in Canada, just to see how it sells? Does that mean the US price is going to drop, or does it mean the Canadian price is going to go up later on?
More importantly: how do I get this shipped internationally from Canada? Any ideas?

If it were me, I'd have it shipped to a postal annex or USP store or something, then have them intercept it and forward the mail to any address of your choosing.

Who bought their Moto X off contract?

I'm considering doing it, I have the Galaxy Nexus but the power button is giving up...
I'm curious, seeing as though you paid $600 + tax, how long do you plan to keep it? Obviously the Moto X should stay current with android for some time...
I expect most of you who bother to reply to be Verizon customers, since we unlimited data holders are a dedicated bunch

I walked into AT&T ready to pay full price but somehow managed to walk away only paying on contract price even though I wasn't eligible for an upgrade. That said, had I actually paid full price, I would still love it just as much and would still be extremely happy with my purchase. I paid full price for both my HTC One and my GS4 Active and this thing blows both of those devices out of the water. As for how long I'll keep it, that depends on what's coming down the pipeline. I switch phones VERY often. I can definitely see myself sticking with this phone longer than I did the One or the GS4 Active though. It is quite the upgrade from the Galaxy Nexus, that's for sure. The GNex isn't in the same league as the Moto X.
You must be making the big bucks to be able to off-contract phones new all the time.
I bought my GalNex for $350 new on eBay about a year ago... I was hoping to get more use out of it, but at the same time I'm not disappointed I "have no choice" but to buy a new phone
That's some luck to pay the upgrade price, I doubt Verizon has overlooked any loopholes there...

I had a gnex myself, on Verizon and paid full retail for the Moto X and I'm not regretting it one bit.. this phone blows the gnex out of the water in almost every way. The only thing I miss is the unlocked boot loader. Do yourself a favor and get it, its worth it!
$677.98 after tax, zero regrets. Was cheaper then my $932 iPhone 5

I make a decent living but I also use craigslist to my full advantage. I was able to sell my HTC One for $500, and my year old iPhone 5 just sold for $500 as well.
Yeah, I don't know how I got it for that price, but I chalk it up to the ineptitude of the 4 representatives at the AT&T store that took over an hour to figure out how to sell me the Moto Maker card. Something happened when they were making the sale that caused me to lose LTE on all my devices for a few days, and I got an upgrade when there wasn't one. Now the LTE is back on, and I got the phone for less than half of what I was expecting to pay. Sometimes their stupidity can work to our advantage
I would definitely pull the trigger man, you will NOT be disappointed. I feel that the Moto X is the perfect marriage of hardware and software, just like the iPhone is. You have never seen Android run this smoothly before. It is the best possible representation of what an Android phone can be nowadays. Or any smart phone for that matter. I've been through A LOT of phones (including the GNex), so I feel I am qualified to make a statement like that

If the in store date is the 23d that seems reasonable.
Best Buy is going to have it on the 17th and you get the $200 instant gift card when you pick it up. Win-win. Get it before Verizon store and get the $200 right then without waiting on check from Samsung.
Mine also said the 23rd. But I can't see BB releasing on the 17 th and verizon not doing the same thing.
We all know Big V would rather ship early then change the date and end up being late.

Sorry if there was a misunderstanding on my part, but this is after trading in a working smartphone. This is the order I was told I should do it:
1. Preorder(get's you a $50 giftcard as well) the Note 4 within the specific time range(9/19/14-10/16/14)
2. On release day, bring in your trade-in and go through the process of getting the gift card for it.
3. Use both giftcards to buy the Note 4(of course you pay the difference if there's anything left over which there should be)

$649...

Ouch. Guess they're confident enough in the Nexus line now that they're looking for a profit on devices now too. Maybe a shift to selling subsidized on carriers is more of a priority.

Too rich for my blood - and for a lot of other people's too, it appears - Google's going to continue to sell the Nexus 5 for those of us without bottomless pockets
Interesting how LOLLIPOP (there - we can say it now!) is built to run on lower spec devices, yet they're still pushing the highest of high ends with this. Not complaining at all - it looks like a beast, alas one I'm unlikely to get to own
When I heard of N6 and it's specs I say: I selling my N5 and must have N6!!
But not when I read about prices.
going back to Samsung, better pay premium for a premium device, not this nexus 5.5

Samsung always seems to plasticy for me.
As for the $649 I am okay with it. This phone is very comparable to other flag ship devices, so it isn't like it is more expensive then the other phones out there in it range. I think many are just bummed because they are used to paying about half that for a Nexus. I already knew I was getting this phone no matter what and planned for it to be about this expensive just in case. One thing I hope this price does is bring down the bottle neck when it comes time to preorder.
i hope then dont charge shipping unlike during nexus 5 there was a shipping charge. shipping charge is going bring this phone to 700 usd
$649 is a total letdown...
I wonder if that $49.99 with contract deal is real.

Supposedly Tmobile is charging $650 for the 64gb. It doesn't make sense for it to be cheaper than the play store.
The price hasn't been announced officially yet, there's still hope.

Budget phone or not, I will be getting XL for sure, I am hoping the hardware doesn't vary too much or I will need both somehow.

I have a 6P and will likely be going with the Pixel (non XL) upon release. I caved in and got the 6P last year even though I hate phablets, and although it's an amazing phone, I still find it too big to this day. 5-5.2" is my sweet spot. Will buy from play store directly like 6P and N5 before, easier this way especially for warranty imho, unless Videotron in Quebec (likely) or Fido/Virgin/Koodo (unlikely) have it at launch as they all have decent 6GB/60$ BYOP plans ; not Bell/Rogers/Telus.
I'll sell my 6P (pretty sure I can get 300$ for the 32GB still under warranty) so that should offset the, I assume, 750$ish price range for the smaller Pixel. The only major turn off for me is front facing speaker ; I will really, really miss those, especially if the bezels are as thick as the leaked renders/pictures (I'M SURE THERE IS ROOM GOOGLE, WHY? :'( )
And the phone better be f'ing amazing at that price (or really nice at a more decent 600$ish price).*
If the price starts at 650USD which in Canada means 845CAD$ + tax = 975CAD$ I'm out.
I will buy a Iphone 6S probably,

Just kidding!
I'll keep the 5X, it's a good phone.
Available now on google play store 1033cad ! way too much for me!
Pixel pre order has been placed ?. Did the phablet on the 6 and went back to the 5x size last year. Bigger isn't always better ?
I pre ordered thru a contract with Telus. $200 up front on a 2 year contract. Looking forward to shipment.

How much is your monthly plan?
Only $12 more than previous contract for Nexus 5 two years ago, which completed by chance in September.
Cell and data bills in Canada are crazy, though. I support openmedia.ca 's efforts.
Total though, $80? I would imagine half of that would go to pay the phone off.
115ish after Data and nationwide calling...expensive
Just ordered my Pixel. Added a new line to my account (Telus) and the phone was 0$ .. Already have 6gb shared data.. so a new plan is 84$ a month taxes included. So it cost me 17$ (sim cost) to order this phone. And comes with 100$ Google play credit!

Not only is it too much, it's just all around not worth it for the price compared to similar offerings.

Gah ya that's a bit much, i would almost expect the phone to be completely free at those prices.

My monthly bill for the last 2 years was only $12 less then this. I am glad it is not free if the change in bill would be lots higher and it would cost me lots more in long run.
$12 x 24 months + $200 = $488 Pixel at end of contract. Compared to $1033 as someone saw, it is a good deal for me.
Just preordered it from bell for 399 on a 2 year contract. Can't wait for it to come. I think this phone will definitely be worth it.

I pre-ordered 2 black 128GB's yesterday from Rogers for $329 each. The demand for the phone doesn't appear to be that high though judging from my position in the line-up -- I'm 47 in the line-up, and that's after placing my order one week after the device was announced...
With Rogers, if you pre-order, you get 2GB of data extra to add to your plan for 12 months, a free Chromecast and a $50 Play Store credit. And that's per device. Not bad.
