Not sure if this is for the QnA section...anyway, yesterday I got a Nexus 7 2012 16GB for my Nexus device collection (used). It was rooted when I got it, with a whole bunch of junk of it, so I used Nexus Root Toolkit and restored it to stock 5.1 (from rooted stock 5.0.2).
Last night however, I noticed two things that seem weird:
- the battery charges really slow compared to my other devices (5 hours for full recharge) and drains quite fast when playing games (compared to the 2013 N7), namely Zombie Driver THD
- self-power off during night charge
While the first one seems normal (it IS used after all so not expecting perfect battery life here), the second one makes me worry a bit. I'm at work so not sure if the issue will repeat, but the battery was certainly not dead when I plugged it to recharge but the tablet was switched off in the morning. Using the original N7 2012 charger by the way.
Any chance this can be ROM-related or is there any known problems like this?
I have had a 2012 N7 in the past but in Android 4.4.4 I didn't have the self power-off problem, maybe a 5.X bug?

Takes me 4 hours at max to charge it from 0 to 100
How much does it last on gaming? I can play heavy games for 1.5 to 2 hours, thats about it. No kernel/rom has given me more than that. It's tegra 3, don't expect much from it.
Some users have reported that bug on 5.1 I however did not encounter it. Although I used 5.1 for just about a day and came back to 5.0.x for xposed

I just came back from work (roughly 13 hours away), the battery seems to be at 97% (no WiFi on) and the tablet was not turned off.
Guess I'll monitor it for a while longer, though knowing how much I plan to use it, it might take a couple of days before I drain it enough to warrant a recharge so that I can test to see if the charging turns it off.
So I thought the issue fixed itself, but last night I found out more about it.
So I haven't used it for about a week or so, it was fully turned off with a charged battery. When I tried to turn it on, it wouldn't work even after multiple tries. So I thought maybe the battery is screwed, so I plugged it in the wall, but no battery charge indicator showed up. I waited a couple of minutes and tried to turn it on but it didn't work, so I left it there "charging". About an hour later I tried it again and it worked, battery was at 100%, so I left it on overnight and it hasn't powered off on it's own.
Anyone can advise on this? I'd just go ahead and re-sell this one, but it's in great condition so I'd prefer to keep it if it's fixable.
I've had a few random power offs or maybe lockups on 5.1? Not sure entirely if it was powered off or locked up, I'm running Complete stock unrooted

Complete stock here as well.
I decided to downgrade it to 4.4.4, we'll see if that fixes it (I'll report back when I believe I tested it enough unless someone gives a known solution or suggestion).
I think you should try installing a new battery if KitKat doesn't fix it.

Just wondering if anyone knows what these spikes might signify?
I had a Nexus for 2 weeks and the last few days it was turning itself off like the issue here every night:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830546
My post is there too. Previously, I only saw one spike with the old Nexus, now I see more.
I exchanged my Nexus 7 for a new one yesterday but does the battery still have issues? It doesn't turn off at night so far but my Battery Info graph shows even more spikes now.
Any engineer know if this is normal or safe?
Thanks!
Still happens
I exchanged the Nexus for a new one.
My NEW 32 tab worked out fine for a night and woke up today to the full battery indicator and tablet off again.
I have a new insight though, somehow the battery temp is rocketing to 100 and I'm guessing that is when it shuts off.
It may be because I am using SetCPU to limit my CPU speed to 300mhz when the screen is off. Maybe the tablet is trying to update all my apps while I am sleeping? It shouldn't use so much power though.
I'm going to try to create a new command to let it use it's whole CPU as long as it's on AC and screen off and see what happens tonight.
Some ppl reported that after official 4.2 update their battery drains while screen off. Issue was resolved with factory reset. I have same issue. Didn't had the time to do factory reset yet.

For me, I'm not running 4.2 or have i upgraded on this Nexus. On the first one i had, I did update, and it seemed to slow down the tablet.
This one was stock and then I rooted, put CM10 on it and then Franco Kernel.
This problem worries me because it makes me think something is traumatizing my tab enough to shut it down at night and I can't figure out what it is.
I don't know if I want to keep it if it is going to keep doing this. But I do love this tablet.
I wonder if this could be a cyanogen mod problem? I've read about some people having a power problem with cyanogen, nobody has said anything about their tablet getting bricked yet though. That's what I'm afraid of.
So I took the plunge after growing tired of waiting for the Nexus 2.
There's no doubt this is a super slick Android experience (I've come from a modded Advent Vega)
Gorgeous screen (although I have bottom right hand corner light bleed, but not too bad) and pretty swift.
The battery problem started right away and I'm wondering if any one else has experienced this.
I started the updates to 4.4.2 right away, this took about 10 minutes and the battery drained from 100 - 80%.
The battery dropped 3-4% every 10 minutes - in effect a 5 hr battery life.
When it got down to 50%, BAM! It instantly dropped to ZERO.
Seriously underwhelmed....

Hi,
How is battery life after it shut down and you recharging? Maybe it was a post installation bad battery life... Also be sure to have the screen brightness low. Some other user had the same 50% issue, I don't remember what he did to fix or if he fixed, you may want to be interested into reading his thread,
Please, check the battery life after you charge it and if it's still THAT bad, I'd recommend calling a Service Center.

OK I take back what I said about being underwhelmed. Battery life could be better but the experience is superslick. Coming from a Vega, holy moly...
I recently bought an iPhone and regretting it. Apple have a lot of catching up to do. Google are nailing it, from the OS to the ecosystem, and the nexus is a dream to use.
So I recharged to full
Screen set to auto and around 40%
Blue tooth off
Screen hasn't slept at all
Activities:
3 hrs Downloading apps and surfing
1 hr video streaming
1.5 hrs video playback (non HD)
10 mins of need for speed
Result:
6 hrs with 5% remaining = 6 hrs 15m
Not terrible, but not great given the charging time. Having read a lot about the battery life I saw 7hrs video playback with screen on full so I'm a bit dissapointed. The bleed is minor and I can live with it.
Opinions and experiences welcomed, does this feel right?

Hi,
Glad my answer could make you see a little more further . My experience is with it running in an even lower screen brightness, screen sleeping some times and also playing some heavy games or surfing the web. Aldo I have Fedora 19 running background.
That gives me 8-9h of battery life, also temperature here is more or less 28-30°C . Temperature influences a lot battery .

Do a stock flash 4.4.2 it fixes issues which arise when you do a 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 OTA upgrade. I never knew the reason why and it might be just do a reset to factory within settings might be just as good, but I just did a flash stock. My suspicion is this relates to formatting the filesystem with newer software may make it faster for I/O, because I found file-copying faster and less CPU in 4.4.2.

Is this issue got fixed after full recharge? I got the same issue for the out of box piece.
For 10 mins of browsing it is consuming 3% of the battery. Is this normal?
I left my tablet in sleeping mode and came to work. Need to see what happens once I back home.

My nexus 10, darined all of a sudden from 56% to 0. Is that OK. Do I need to ask for a replacement?
Thanks in advance.
My N10 which is 13 months old had this issue last night.
Used it for a while after it was fully charged. Turned it off at 90% but it was completely dead today, had to charge it for a while to get it to start.
Anyone send one of these back bought from Google Playstore in the UK?

Hi everyone,
I have an issue with my nexus that i'm looking for a little imput on. My nexus was doing fine when a number of things changed so i'm not sure what might be causing the issue. I bought a pogo charger and upgraded to 4.4.3. I had excellent battery life (used device all day and battery lasted all day) until 2 weeks after making those changes.
Suddenly, i started experiencing random crashes and reboots many times a day and about 10 days ago, the tablet won't stay on if not plugged in. sometimes the tablets screen will flicker and go off immediately after being unplugged, sometimes it'll go off after a few minutes. With the battery flunctuating between 0% charged or fully charged.
Since then i have called both google and samsung, who proved to be extremely useless not i'm out of warrantee. I've upgraded to 4.4.4, didn't work, flashed 4.4.3 and 4.4.2, and neither have worked.
So i'm thinking its a firmware issue and i'm just going to replace the battery. So my question is: Do you think this is an internal problem or just a bad battery and could it have been caused by the pogo charger?
I've been searching these forums for quite sometime and they've proved really helpful for tutorials on flashing stock images and such. Thank you so much (in advance) for your help!
Yea it most definitely could be a battery issue. If you the right tools you might want to pop off the back and take a look inside for any loose wires, bad connections etc.. I can relate to the battery issues but what you have going on is most likely a hardware problem.
I had excessive battery drain and freeze ups when I updated to 4.4.3. I've gone back to 4.4.2 and no issues, I did do a wipe when installing 4.4.2 but it was worth it for me.

I'm experiencing an extremely frustrating problem with my N7. I noticed I get very little usage time out of it (1.5-2.5 hours watching youtube videos, playing games and TV shows) and it takes forever to charge (8+ hours from 10% to 100%) so I figured the battery is on it's way out. I've had it for almost 3 years so that would make sense. However, I bought a new battery (this one) but it hasn't made any difference. I lost the original charging cable so I suppose the slow charging could be at least partly due to that, but I remember for the first two years I had this thing, I could get at least 4 hours of continuous use out of it, usually 5+. I used to be able to leave it off the charger all day while I'm at work and the battery would hardly go below 90% but now I leave it off the charger for 6 hours and it's down to 45% from just sitting there idle. I have Greenify installed and have it set to hibernate all apps except Apex Launcher.
Has anyone else had this problem? What can I do to fix it? It has an older version of CM 10 on it so I'll try to flash a newer stable version. Should I try a new kernel too? I don't think I've ever done a firmware update on it either.
I would really appreciate any help. I'm ready to just smash this goddamn thing with a hammer.
Anyone? :/
It happened to me before with slow charging then I ve replace with my lg g2 cable then it work normal again.
For the ROM I am using cm12 it works good on my nexus but that's my opinions. You can try other ROM which suits you.
Thanks I hope this help.

Hello and Happy New Year to all,
*
I came across an issue with my Note's (N910C) battery today and I would like your opinion on it.
*
A quick background:
*
The phone has never been rooted.
9-10 months ago I downloaded an official firmware (6.0.1) which I flashed via Odin and it began to drain the battery very fast, killing the phone in less than a day.
I got a new battery, but the problem was still there.
Eventually I tried another firmware which worked nicely and consumption returned to normal levels. Since then, I had no problems whatsoever.
Yesterday night I got a notification to update. I had already done another two in the past - if I'm not mistaken - , without noticeable difference.
I did the update overnight and I removed the charging cable in the morning. It seemed that it was a little warmer than usual, but I did not pay attention.
The battery percentage was reducing at the rate of 1% per minute and it died within 2 hours.
I checked battery info, nothing abnormal.
I have two questions:
*
1. Does anyone have similar experience with this model (or other)?
2. If I reinstall the previous firmware, normally the problem should be fixed, right? I mean it started after an official update which AFAIK affects native apps only.
*
Thank you in advance
I have noticed on my Note 4, after upgrading to marshmallow, the battery drained like crazy too. It would drain 10-20% when I use it for 20 mins or so. The battery that I'm using is a 'new' one that I bought just about a year ago although the problem still occurred when it was fairly new.
I'm speculating that there might be some sort of battery or software issue with marshmallow as the original battery that came with the phone also had the same issue. It would drain fairly quickly until one day it just stopped working and would boot loop until I plugged it in to the charger.
Ever since marshmallow, I have never seen my battery get to 15% before switching off completely. Sometimes even 45% lol.

I had a faulty N910F and got another (used) one and it's had occasional forced closes at between 15-20%. This worries me that it might go the way of the old one where it developed the issues with it freezing and the frequent reboots....does yours exhibit any other issues?

Yes. Unfortunately. Currently, it would just die halfway even when I'm at 50%? That's the highest that I've noticed. So I had to charge it up for a bit maybe to 60% and it would be fine before dying around the 20+ - 40% mark. Previously, the original battery that came with the phone had this weird issue where the battery won't hold any charge even when it's fully charged. Like it will go to a bootloop when I've unplugged it even though it's at 100%. When I bought the new, current battery I noticed that it would still die off at 15-20% and the original battery became bloated a few months later.
Are you using any custom roms? The bootloops and freezing could be related to using some custom roms. I changed from a N7 port to a deodexed stock rom and the frequency of the freezing and reboots just plummeted. Reboots only happening when the battery is close to dying.

Ah right, so you had only the reboots, nothing else? That's fair enough.
No, it's nothing at all to do with the ROM. I'm stock but LOTS of people have had the same issue. As it stands, the only way to fix it is to get a new mobo :crying:

Well besides the usual overheating that's related to our snapdragon CPU, nothing much but mostly battery issues.
Although there is thread that I'm following that promises to fix the 15-20% issue. Checking their method to see if it works or not

I had a similar problem with fast battery drain - did a factory reset and it's back to normal. Make sure you're using a battery from a reputable source like RavPower (don't think there are any genuine Samsung ones left and Anker stopped making them).
