Ok, random reboots are gone...now it's just sleep of death.
Every. Damn. Morning.
No kidding...every single day, the thing has shut itself off and drained it's battery completely..TABLET AND DOCK mind you, for about a week now. I can't set it down and close the lid..I feel like I'm using paul burton's Spark ROM. I am actually about to RMA this thing myself because of this......
It's getting very hot on recharge from completely dead, and it's done it so many times now I fear it's very likely to have damaged the life of my battery as an end-user..
Add to this..dust INSIDE my camera lens, dead pixels, and half-working microSD slot (the card has to be inserted JUST SO..in order to be recognized).
I want a new device..I'm done playing around with this defective toy, I want a real workhorse that I can depend on, I need it for my projects. Sadly, I have a SBK1 too...
Had only a few reboots a week on all ICS stock, Revolver, Revolution and CM9 roms. No battery drain. I do not have a dock.
Since I flashed CM9 Megatron a few weeks ago, I experienced no reboots at all, except a few lockups on Home Screen. Since Megatron 1.0.3 based on ICS 4.0.4 and the latest guevor kernel test13, it's running smooth as butter with great battery life and overclocked to 1.4GHz.
Does the battery drain like that when it is not docked?
With all those issues, you should RMA. Although when you get the device back it will probably still have sleep of death (and maybe random reboots).

In another thread, it was mentioned that the ICS update defaults the TF101 to have the setting "stay awake - screen will never sleep while charging" enabled, no matter whether it looks like there's a checkmark on that setting or not. When the tablet is docked, it is considered as "charging" and therefore it will stay awake and drain the tablet battery and the dock battery. The fix is to manually toggle the checkmark on and off on that setting, whether there looks like there is a checkmark there or not. That's why I asked whether or not the battery drains when undocked.
Strangely I didn't get a second update yet

The 'fix' was reported to be simply unchecking and checking the box (it's toggle is set to on, but the actual feature is disabled until you do this). I had previously done this, and forgotten about it..but I will go check again, though I am pretty sure that my CWM backup was made well after my settings were adjusted like this, and the backup I restored and am using now did not previously crash like this.
EDIT: Also, once the dock is drained to 3% it is supposed to stop 'charging' so it *should* not result in draining the tablet's battery completely (from full charge on both units however, with screen off, awake or asleep, I would think I could get more than 8-10 hours battery life without draining both batteries to 0%..yes, 0%. This is what scares me that the batteries have been damaged..after 5-8 times that it has overdischarged now..)
Experiencing the exact same issues here
SODs and complete battery drain when supposedly off. My tab is also permanently connected to keyboard.
Getting very frustrated now.
I've using Revolver ROMs for a long time now and these issues only occured after flashing the ICS betas. It had gotten so bad that I went back to Honeycomb but the SODs and battery drain persisted even then.
Tonight I flashed the newly released Revolver RC1 rom in hope that the issues would be fixed but unfortunately I've had a random reboot already
Not sure where to go now as the stock Asus rom has these issues as well I believe. iPad anyone?
Rant over and many thanks to all the devs for their unselfish work.
Jake
Well, my screen keeps coming on. That seems to be the problem. At random while docked, it just comes on. I look at the dock when it's closed and see it's on..so I open it and manually turn it off (the screen not the device) and leave it open..a few minutes later, there it is again, on..for no reason.
This is my likely culprit, and it's really pissing me off. I am on a stock ROM, so unless this is guevor's kernel's fault, it's Asus', I'm leaning towards Asus.
However judging from some of the responses, it would seem users are having this without using guevor's kernel..so there goes that option.
Can anyone confirm they are getting this issue with the stock kernel?

Funny...
Came here to consider rooting my tablet to fix similar issues, and you all are having the same issues. I am NOT rooted, tablet keeps going into some sort of "deep sleep" (that's what a developer friend called it). Sometimes the battery is draining to nothing, sometimes not. Although, once it goes into this sleep mode, it's near impossible to get back out and always requires a reboot.
PLUS the constant rebooting for no reason, right in the middle of work. This thing's been super buggy since the ICS update, ASUS is absolutely no help (worst service I've experienced in years)...wish I had never installed it. NOTHING about the update is worth all this headache...
According to my research, it's a known issue...meaning ASUS knows it's a problem and are supposedly working on it. I kept reading about another OTA update that was supposed to fix some of these issues last week, but haven't seen anything yet.
Yet another notch in the "dump android" column

Not exactly a product-wide issue. For whatever reason, some Transformers, like mine, do not have the same problems or not nearly to the same extent. I have had 300+ hour uptimes (2 weeks) with this iteration of ICS, though, when it does go down, I suspect it might be when I choose to use Flash in a browser. I haven't really looked into it. You are also mixing up issues. This particular issue is with dock owners. Toggling the "stay awake" setting may or may not help in this case. I don't have a dock, so I don't know. Some say it did help.
The issue you are describing is separate and has a workaround and a possible fix posted.
Workaround: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567795
Possible fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518552
ASUS might have already resolved the problem in their TF101G firmware, but I don't know why they haven't released a patch yet for TF101.
As many have pointed out in other threads, it's not possible to extrapolate how many are affected by your issue because this is a support forum that pops up high in the Google rankings. Many people end up here when looking for support for problems. Therefore the population here is naturally going to be disproportionately high in people having problems. I myself ended up on XDA because of an issue with the Lenovo K1 tablet.

So why not just install the wake lock app and stop the aggravation? It is a 100% rock solid fix, or workaround for now. Battery life hardly suffers also.

In my tests I lose 0.3%/hour without wakelock and 1.5%/hour with wakelock. So over a few hours not much impact. But over 12+ hours it starts to add up.

Hi
This morning 26th on my note I had an OTA notification. Since I had no Wifi, I cancelled it. Now, when I do a manual check, it says 'no updates available'. I already have 4.04 (XXLRG) from an update a couple of weeks ago so it wasn't that.
Any idea what it might have been?
Hoping for some Jelly Bean soon since I like it on my N7.

Omg. Seriously hoping this is foreshadowing the release of jellybean for the note...

Most likely not jb but to remove search the phone capability

Pah!, it was just XXLRK, 4.04. It installed a load of rubbish without asking (all German due to CSC setting).

I got this update yesterday. However I can't find the apps mantioned here. It only said "Improved performance". I don't know what they mean. I have had the problems with the battery. I had to either pull the battery for a minute or two, or I had to switch on power saving mode right after charging and leave it on for some minutes before turning off powersaving. I had to do this every time I charged the phone, or else it would not go into deep sleep. It would stay on 200MHz, and drain the battery in a matter of hours.
However, this morning I saw (using CPU Spy) that the phone had charged all night using 200MHz (this might be normal. I don't know this). I tryed to just pull the charger, without doing the steps mentioned above. And i see now, a couple of hours later, that the phone has gone into deep sleep since I pulled the charger.
It might be too early to draw conclutions on this, but it looks promising so far.
I have found no info about the update yesterday. I hope its possible to hard reset the phone without bricking it now, but I don't know.
I will keep monitoring the phone, and let you know.

IIRC the phone doesn't charge during deep sleep, so clocked at 200 while charging should be normal.

I explained badly I think. I have used the CPU Spy for some time now, and i have seen that the cpu use 200MHz when it charging. Good to know this is normal. The big difference this morning was that when I took the phone off the charger, it went into deep sleep. It hasn't done that for a long time. Before the update, it went on using 200MHz after charging, when it was supposed to go into deep sleep. The only thing I could do to get it into deep sleep, was to pull the battery og use battery saver for a few mins.
I just hope they have fixed the brick problem when doing a hard reset too!

Yehh. I asked customer support what the update was, and if they fixed the battery problem and brick problem. They answered that I had to hard reset to fix the battery problem and the update was "improved performance". So I guess I either have to live with a bad battery or bricked phone hehe. Kinda hopeless imo. Anyways, the battery still works good after update :good:
Just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone happens to be getting a lot of partial wakelocks without screen on or if your overall battery life has decreased since installing the 4.1.1 OTA. When I first purchased the phone, I had very very few incidents under my battery info where I would have a session awake without the screen on. Post update, seems like I've got a ton of really small wakes with no screen activity. I have turned off Google Now and every GPS/Location setting I could find. Downloaded Better Battery Stats today so I'm going to see if I can get some better info on what's going on, new to the program though and I don't understand most of the info that it reads.
Prior to the update, letting my phone sit overnight I would maybe see a 3 or 4% drop over the course of say six or seven hours. Now I'm seeing a 3 to 4% drop in battery per hour, more if I'm actively using the phone. I'm going to do more testing, specifically overnight to see how it fairs. Just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone else is experiencing any of these issues.

Hmm, might try a factory reset and not installing any apps at all and seeing how it fairs. By chance, do you guys have any of the stock bloatware apps disabled? Not rooted/Frozen, but just disabled via the apps menu? Wondering if perhaps disabling any of them might be a trigger.

Yea i'm getting that. I'm using 13% overnight now vs like 4% before. Not sure about the wakelocks though.
Some random things I've noticed are the blur widget resets itself alot. And the transition to the settings window on the left is laggy. How would one revert back to ICS? Google Now is not that worth it to me and the phone was smooth enough before. I'd take the battery life over the new features.
I did buy a second Razr M for my girlfriend that's still on ICS. I guess I can do a side by side compare this weekend.
I am loving the update.. only issue so far is fire fox crashing..no battery issues. Must be settings guys..

i don't think it is setting i have all my syncs to manual, and i have been noticing a lot worse battery life since the update i would have 18+ hours or so off charger with pretty heavy texting / game / some voice calls. Now i'm not getting close to that. I just disabled the fast dormancy service to see if that helps any, ill post back results
Just did a factory reset today, I'm not going to disable any of the bloatware this time, and I only installed BetterBatteryStats as well as updated all the default apps in the Play Store. Going to see if I get any wakelocks this time around.
Last night, after a period of 6 hours, I had over an hours worth of partial wakelocks from AlarmManager (subheading Phone).
-Matt :good:
I disabled Google Now and my phone used 7% battery over 6 and a half hours. A little bit better.
A factory reset (annoying as it is) helped me considerably. My phone was also seriously laggy before the reset...slow like my old DX on GB, much worse than factory ICS. It finally feels smooth now, like JB should.
Still seeing a lot more wakelocks than on ICS, but it doesn't seem to be draining the battery like it was before the reset. I also removed or disabled a couple of apps that seemed to be serious offenders (Accuweather was one).
Did a reset on mine as well and did not restore from Google backup. Still seeing wakelocks, but as someone noted earlier they don't seem to be draining the battery too much. With that said, the battery does still seem to tick down much faster than on ICS. One thing I did find that helped, although honestly it's not really a solution, is turning off data use when I'm out and about just answering texts and such. If I have data/wifi disabled, I'm getting closer to the battery life that ICS was giving, but then again who wants to go around having to toggle data on and off every time you want to look something up.
-Matt
Is maps showing up on your battery stats and you're not using it? If so, simply open the application. It should say "updated to the latest version" or something like that. If this is happening, this will solve your battery problems.
Happened on my Galaxy Nexus and was happening initially for this phone too. Hope this helps someone.
Modem Fast Dormancy Monitor Service Not Responding.
Me and my wife both updated to KitKat on our Razr M's. I like it so far. The pop up about modem fast dormancy bothers both of use. When you look under battery, it uses more battery than other apps. I force stop it, reboot and it comes right back. A chat on Motorola web site sugested to wipe partition cache. The link that was provide gives the wrong instructions. KitKat using the power and volume keys has changed. They forgot to tell some people. That didn't work! I sent a long email to Motorola telling them that someone messed up or they did this for a reason! I guess if you get mad enough you'll just buy a newer phone. If that one thing is fixed, we would both be happy. The white background in text take some getting use to also. I hope Motorola will help us, but I kind of think Razr M's will be considered OLD! They are betting we will junk them for a new model.

Sorry! My bad. I didn't notice it was closed. Why do they not take old olds off line.
Hi all,
First post so go easy
I've had my N4 for about 18 months. Ever since 4.4.3 (now on 4.4.4 and nothings changed) I think I have been having some probelms.....I also dropped my phone around the time of the update so can't rule out a hardware problem, anyway....
On full charge the phone is, after a random amount of use perhaps around half battery, it drops signal completely....then it start goiing crazy, opening apps clicking on things (sometimes locks up) then shuts it's self off.
Once I turn it back on it says the battery is almost out.....even though before the crash it was at 50%???? (Please see imnage below for "cliff edge" on battery screen shot!)
I have tried safe mode, I have done a factory reset and removed all and any apps except facebook. Other symptoms include forgeting wifi and other account logins!
Also worth noteing I dropped it and smashed the screen, I then had it repaired and voided the warrenty (?) because I needed it same day for work.....dont know if thats connected was working fine for a while after this happened.
I have seen various posts of this forum and other about this kind of thing but no exact answers.....any help would be great 7 months until free new phone
Sudden drop is extreme right....
Re flash factory images for a full wipe, if it doesn't work after that then its probably hardware (sadly), maybe you could get a moto g? I've heard there really good and cheap.

Sounds like something went wrong during the repair or drop and that this is a hardware issue. As suggested, try flashing full stock, but I am pretty sure this is a hardware problem, unfortunately.

Thanks guys .....Ive been doing as much reading as pos.
Some people are saying reather than the drop its maybe just a failed battery? thoughts?
It could definitely be a possibility. If you are up to it, you could purchase a new battery and try to replace it, there is just the risk of damaging something further.

Same thing is happening to my wifes NEXUS 4. Hers is a little over a year old now. It was dropped and I replaced the screen a few months ago, but ever since the new updates, her phone has been going CRAZY!
The phone randomly loses signal, battery drains quickly and apps open close (ghost touches) and then it shuts down.
I've cleared the cache, reset to factory defaults and even run in safe mode and nothing. The phone is useless now, she maybe gets 2 hours of normal use out of it before it goes completely nuts again.

I am waiting for a new battery. Try rollback to 4.2.2.
ITs same on my phone after an 4.4.3 update teh N4 gone rogue before the update it was working just fine I just did factory reset got back to 4.2.1 android and its doing the same
Just to keep you up to speed...I suspect it may be the battery....or perhaps power management issue/conflict??
Trick is if I keep my battery charge above 60-65% it's fine......get below that and the trouble start.....weird. hvaing said that seems to drain faster than normal also. My hope are pinned on battery solution once Rajnus trys it.
Although not looking foward to taking phone apart to replace it
Today after the first symptom I rebooted phone and after reboot my battery was at 14%. It looks like to me that we have constant drain but system some how is not registering it properly. I will restart after every 10%
Edit: 85% ->reboot -> 57%

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one suffering from this issues as well. I replaced my screen and digitizer about 3 months ago and never had issues. Last week I updated from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 (and 4.4.4 shortly after) and started having the same issues where there would be ghost touches on the screen once I got to around 70% battery, loss of radio/signal, and when I would restart the phone, I would lose majority of the battery charge. I tried flashing stock back on the phone and the problem still is present.

Just to repeat that is exactly what is happening to me word for word.
Not sure if this is for the QnA section...anyway, yesterday I got a Nexus 7 2012 16GB for my Nexus device collection (used). It was rooted when I got it, with a whole bunch of junk of it, so I used Nexus Root Toolkit and restored it to stock 5.1 (from rooted stock 5.0.2).
Last night however, I noticed two things that seem weird:
- the battery charges really slow compared to my other devices (5 hours for full recharge) and drains quite fast when playing games (compared to the 2013 N7), namely Zombie Driver THD
- self-power off during night charge
While the first one seems normal (it IS used after all so not expecting perfect battery life here), the second one makes me worry a bit. I'm at work so not sure if the issue will repeat, but the battery was certainly not dead when I plugged it to recharge but the tablet was switched off in the morning. Using the original N7 2012 charger by the way.
Any chance this can be ROM-related or is there any known problems like this?
I have had a 2012 N7 in the past but in Android 4.4.4 I didn't have the self power-off problem, maybe a 5.X bug?

I'm at work so not sure if the issue will repeat, but the battery was certainly not dead when I plugged it to recharge but the tablet was switched off in the morning. Using the original N7 2012 charger by the way.
Any chance this can be ROM-related or is there any known problems like this?
I have had a 2012 N7 in the past but in Android 4.4.4 I didn't have the self power-off problem, maybe a 5.X bug?

Takes me 4 hours at max to charge it from 0 to 100
How much does it last on gaming? I can play heavy games for 1.5 to 2 hours, thats about it. No kernel/rom has given me more than that. It's tegra 3, don't expect much from it.
Some users have reported that bug on 5.1 I however did not encounter it. Although I used 5.1 for just about a day and came back to 5.0.x for xposed

I just came back from work (roughly 13 hours away), the battery seems to be at 97% (no WiFi on) and the tablet was not turned off.
Guess I'll monitor it for a while longer, though knowing how much I plan to use it, it might take a couple of days before I drain it enough to warrant a recharge so that I can test to see if the charging turns it off.
So I thought the issue fixed itself, but last night I found out more about it.
So I haven't used it for about a week or so, it was fully turned off with a charged battery. When I tried to turn it on, it wouldn't work even after multiple tries. So I thought maybe the battery is screwed, so I plugged it in the wall, but no battery charge indicator showed up. I waited a couple of minutes and tried to turn it on but it didn't work, so I left it there "charging". About an hour later I tried it again and it worked, battery was at 100%, so I left it on overnight and it hasn't powered off on it's own.
Anyone can advise on this? I'd just go ahead and re-sell this one, but it's in great condition so I'd prefer to keep it if it's fixable.
I've had a few random power offs or maybe lockups on 5.1? Not sure entirely if it was powered off or locked up, I'm running Complete stock unrooted

Complete stock here as well.
I decided to downgrade it to 4.4.4, we'll see if that fixes it (I'll report back when I believe I tested it enough unless someone gives a known solution or suggestion).
I think you should try installing a new battery if KitKat doesn't fix it.
