So I took the plunge after growing tired of waiting for the Nexus 2.
There's no doubt this is a super slick Android experience (I've come from a modded Advent Vega)
Gorgeous screen (although I have bottom right hand corner light bleed, but not too bad) and pretty swift.
The battery problem started right away and I'm wondering if any one else has experienced this.
I started the updates to 4.4.2 right away, this took about 10 minutes and the battery drained from 100 - 80%.
The battery dropped 3-4% every 10 minutes - in effect a 5 hr battery life.
When it got down to 50%, BAM! It instantly dropped to ZERO.
Seriously underwhelmed....

Hi,
How is battery life after it shut down and you recharging? Maybe it was a post installation bad battery life... Also be sure to have the screen brightness low. Some other user had the same 50% issue, I don't remember what he did to fix or if he fixed, you may want to be interested into reading his thread,
Please, check the battery life after you charge it and if it's still THAT bad, I'd recommend calling a Service Center.

OK I take back what I said about being underwhelmed. Battery life could be better but the experience is superslick. Coming from a Vega, holy moly...
I recently bought an iPhone and regretting it. Apple have a lot of catching up to do. Google are nailing it, from the OS to the ecosystem, and the nexus is a dream to use.
So I recharged to full
Screen set to auto and around 40%
Blue tooth off
Screen hasn't slept at all
Activities:
3 hrs Downloading apps and surfing
1 hr video streaming
1.5 hrs video playback (non HD)
10 mins of need for speed
Result:
6 hrs with 5% remaining = 6 hrs 15m
Not terrible, but not great given the charging time. Having read a lot about the battery life I saw 7hrs video playback with screen on full so I'm a bit dissapointed. The bleed is minor and I can live with it.
Opinions and experiences welcomed, does this feel right?

Hi,
Glad my answer could make you see a little more further . My experience is with it running in an even lower screen brightness, screen sleeping some times and also playing some heavy games or surfing the web. Aldo I have Fedora 19 running background.
That gives me 8-9h of battery life, also temperature here is more or less 28-30°C . Temperature influences a lot battery .

Do a stock flash 4.4.2 it fixes issues which arise when you do a 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 OTA upgrade. I never knew the reason why and it might be just do a reset to factory within settings might be just as good, but I just did a flash stock. My suspicion is this relates to formatting the filesystem with newer software may make it faster for I/O, because I found file-copying faster and less CPU in 4.4.2.

For 10 mins of browsing it is consuming 3% of the battery. Is this normal?

6 hours doing what? If you use it non-stop for 6 hours (screen always on) then that's probably about right.
I get about 3 days use from mine (which has about 6 hours screen on time by the end of it).
Remember as well the warmer it gets the faster the battery will drop, plus turning it on and off a lot will take a lot out the battery, leaving it to idle in standby is better than to keep turning it off all the time.
I hope this helps but I cannot be more specific without knowing exactly what your doing with yours.
Can you post more detail. Like what you do with it during that 6 hours. do you have everything on like.
Things that you should check and lower to help with battery life
1 . screen brightness (put as low as you can handle)
2. Wifi on all the time when there is NO NETWORK CONNECTION.
3. sync accounts in background (sns notifications and running apps) ROGUE.
4. GPS AND LOCATION SETTINGS (EAT BATTERY NEARLY MORE THEN ANYTHING)
5. OVER CLOCKING AND TWEAKING SYSYEM
The above is a place to start good luck

i was actually quoting on how my a500 and android phone does. Not really used the nexus long enough to get a true feel for battery life . My use is checking email posting to forums and internet searching. once in a while i will use gps. but never long periods of use.. gps on a500 sucks the battery and does not get the greatest signal . but it still gets 8 + hours .

Can I install this is kernel in The Stock Rom?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yes u can flash it on the stock ROM. Use the above settings and you'll find that the battery doesn't want to come down. Its the best kernel right now. Be sure to support the developer by buying the kernel app also. I got 1hr screen time for 10% battery so that gives you an idea. Also 7000 benchmark.

This thread gave me the idea to re-download SetCPU to underclock it. However, I immediately noticed flaws. Switching between homescreens had become laggy. I uninstalled, and I'll leave it the way it is.
So, they have apparently sorted out the stock and supply problem. I <cough> borrowed the wife's credit card and have placed the order.
They say it will ship in 1 to 2 weeks, I can live with that.
The light-hearted question I have is, once I've gotten over the excited rush of playing with the phone for a while, what have your experiences been? Good or bad! I've heard that the battery life is not great but to be honest I am not so bothered with that. I have a charger and work, and home, in the car - I can even charge it at the pub/bar I go to
Keep an eye out for issues worthy of an RMA. From there, the only thing to expect is awesomeness. You'll want to calibrate the screen color and gamma, though.
Has battery life been that bad? Because I just ordered one myself to replace my wife's 3GS.

Utter tripe. You either have a rouge app, or you have the brighness turned up full or something else stupid.
I easily get a full day out mine with moderate use. It's about 50%-60% remaining when I get home in the evening from work.
I got around 3 hours of screen on time and a full 18-20 hours standby on stock rom with the usual useage of whatsapp and gmail syncing, with web use and texting etc, and now on custom rom, I am getting up to 4.5 hours screen on.
So, battery is good, phone is super fast and smooth, camera is great if you take time to learn how to use it and especially with HDR on and a bit of post picture editing. Only down side is music volume and quality which is average at best. In my opinion.
Thanks for the feedback. I just hope my wife can make the transition from iOS to android.
I think depending whether you are on WiFi or HSPA will make a huge difference for battery. From what I understand, when using HSPA, the standby battery life is horrible.
The screen is usually the single biggest threat to your battery. And the N4 can get 4-6 hours of "screen on" time depending on use. As others have said, it can be on standby for 15+ hours, but you can completely kill the battery in 4 hours or less if you are using a cpu intensive app.
Custom roms and battery saving apps can def help out though.
I ordered mine at 3pm on wednesday and it was with me by 3pm on thursday .. so slightly quicker than the 1-2 weeks they quote!
Unlock the boot loader, doesn't matter if you decide on staying stock or what. Having your boot loader unlocked right of the bat allows you to keep your apps if you do decide to root /flash.

You'll sadly probably find that the screen is *uneven* in it's tint (yellow probably) and brightness. Because it's uneven, "calibrating" will help a little maybe but will not fix any issues with the screen. On the other hand, with luck (which I wish you) you may find that your screen is pretty much perfectly uniform in brightness and tone top to bottom, left to right. (Check using the Mail app and minimise the keyboard) I've had 5 so far and none of them are acceptable to me. Otherwise the phone is truly incredible in use. Buttery smooth, responsive, great. The screen very generally is amazing too. It's just not even as it should be. Let me know how yours is - i'd be interested to know because if yours has good uniformity I'll order another. Good luck!

Hi guys,
A couple of weeks ago, Note II informed me of an upgrade. I did a bit of googling and found out it was to fix some exonys bug. Seemed pretty important so I did the upgrade post haste.
At first the battery life was atrocious (like a 50% drop). The same thing happened with my old iPhone 4 but everything reverted to normal within a week. So, I though maybe things are new and Android will fix itself up after some time.
How wrong was I ? LOL. My phone gives me just a day's worth of battery life. Earlier it was a solid two days. Which was why I justified carrying this brick of a phone. It is pretty ridiculous to see the battery drop by 30% at times in three or four hours (despite zero use).
Any suggestions to improve or remove the pathetic firmware upgrade.
1. Use the nova launcer
2. Auto brightness with the slider dragged to 1/3rd
3. 3G always on
4. The battery screen shows screen taking 70% of the battery! I have the auto off timer set to 15s the minimum.
Any suggestions guys? I am frustrated with this phone post the update. Thinking of switching back to the iPhone as atleast it gave me a day's pf juice in a much pocketable format.:crying:

But the drop has been extreme in my case.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Honestly you can't do anything. In American english, you can't do nothing!
Turn 3G off, when you don't need it. Keep brightness at as low as possible.
That's all. 4.1.2 drains juice faster than 4.1.1, it's the truth, doesn't really matter if someone agrees or not.
You could go back to 4.1.1 ROM you know and depend on your luck for that Exynos issue. Otherwise give up on great battery backup and stay with 4.1.2, like I'm doing. Nowadays I don't even monitor how much battery backup/screen on time I'm getting, on 4.1.1 it was the opposite story however.
Hey, so should I just resign myself to a gimped battery? What really hurts is how awesome the battery was before.
Any word on when samsung would release a good update?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Download better battery stats to make sure there is no wake lock. I will advise despite my best efforts the battery life has plummeted when upgrading to 4.1.2. Stick to 4.1.1 for battery life. It still lasts much longer than an average handset saying that

After updating to 4.1.2 my battery runs down about 20% quicker overall I would say. 70% for your screen seems severe. Mine is always set to 50% auto and takes between 30 to 35% of the battery usage.

If you go back to 4.1.1.... Stock even....you'll have the same battery issue.
After about 2 weeks of having the 4.1.2 (the second update I received) on DBT my battery life one day just magically got better! I had been having terrible battery life (like 1 days worth) for 3 months, and now I get home every day from work with 50-70% battery. I charge it every night, regardless of the %. But it just magically got better. I'd say give it a go for a week or 2, and see if it helps. I don't know what happened with mine, but it looks like the software just "settled in" because I didn't install ANYTHING new, and in fact, I hadn't even uninstalled anything! It just got better after using it. Do a few battery pulls / restarts, too.
I went back to 4.1.2 last night and right now I'm at 50% charge, 17 hours standby time and 5 hours of screen time... I'd say my battery issue is fixed.. for now lol
I also must say that after a week or so of using 4.1.2 battery went much better overnight. I automatically turn on airplane mode during night, and on 4.1.1 I had like 1-2% drain overnight from full charge. After updrage to 4.1.2 it jumped to 10-20% !!! Now, it is down to like 4%, which is not that bad. Still have to see how it behaves during the day, I think it is not any better. Well, at least that standby drain is (much) better....

I had this phone little more than 24 hours now. And I feel like it hasn't fully when through the battery cycle. Thus killing my phone in less than 10 hours. This is with very light usage as well!
I've also turned off gps and wifi.
I have turned on stamina, along with various other battery saving features.
Now I am coming from galaxy s3, note 2, and iPhone 5. (my iPhone has this same issue and cleared when I've started using the phone and going through few charging cycles)
I just wanna make sure that our phone isn't plagued by the software, hence this phone is only available via t-mobile or Sony (unlocked as well).
Please post your battery life photos.
Including rooted or not.
Also post which rom / kernel you are using.
Mine: stock from t-mobile. And not rooted.

We already had/have a similar topic in the Q&A section, no need to open a new one.
I see a lot of wake events. Check what's keeping your phone from deepsleeping with wakelock detector.
Yup you have a lot of wake events, I had this problem too. I reseted, reflashed firmware multiple times and still experienced problems until I sent it to Sony and somehow now there is barely any awake entries at all. Only screen entries appear (blue line on screen) and no lines on awake.. I do still get *backup* wakelocks and some qcom_RX_wake lock though

i get about 20+ hours of stand by and around 3-4 hours of screen using it normaly not playing games
The phone was horrible initially and on 4.1.2 then after the 4.2.2 update it has been brilliant. It lasts me just over 24hrs on normal us with screen time between 5-6hrs. I'm very pleased as by 17h00 it is normally at around 55%. So it lasts me a full active day.

After 4 months my Xperia Z barely lasts a day with just 1,5h of screen on time. Sony said the battery is good. Restored different firmware, tried 4.1, 4.2, CM - nothing helps. I'm very unhappy...
The media server keep draining my battery...
But when I switch my sd card to a empty one or just remove it the media server nolonger drain my battery.
So I only keep a small amont of pic and musics in my sdcard and that makes the battery can last more the one day
the battery life was improved from 4.1 to 4.2 . That being said, the battery life is still much to be desired.

Tbh I was really worried about the battery life on the Z, I have had my phone nearly 24hours and I am not concerned by bad battery life so far. The battery seems very good actually, its no S4 but the S4 does have a bigger battery and uses a AMOLED screen. Iirc LCD/TFT use more battery or maybe I have got that wrong.

I'll assume you are not a heavy user of some sorts? The frequency of usage i mean.
I'm not sure about the screen part though but it does make sense if AMOLEDs screen uses less battery than LCD/TFT screens since they actually off the black pixels.

Don't we already have a Thread and lots of results for Battery life here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2185362
Stock rooted 4.3. No undervolt, no nothing, just stamina mode on. This is the best update I ever had on a phone in terms of battery life.

Hello'this is my first post here and I own a brand new n7 2012 16gb WiFi
My nexus 7 is rooted with a few games and apps and its barely a week old and my problem is that it doesn't last even an hour on battery
While web browsing and screen brghtnews 35% it is lasting for around 50 mins on battery and while playing any games around 20-30 mins its too low and it is happening with the tablet fully charged. I have tried installing different kernels, and. Many battery apps and searched all over but no lead.
Please help me with any fix for it. My tablet is running android 4.3 .it shouldn't happen as its a week old and still under warranty.
Screen brightness is using most battery with Google chrome being 2nd followed by android system

Bad battery or most probably a loose battery connector.. Take the back plate off and check if its connected properly
(If you don't feel comfortable opening the back Plate.. Just send it back.. Get a new one) Make sure you return to stock
