Notification light constantly on, tried practically everything (VS980) - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For the past two days the notification light hasn't turned off no matter what I do. I used the Light Flow app to figure out the problem, I turned of the led notification light in settings, I've been installed a new ROM and bootloader with a clean install but nothing has worked.
Not only is this a problem but also downloading apps, updates and files in general don't even work without resetting the phone, and ironically notifications now don't even vibrate or make any noise, which I think has to do with the constant light blinking. On a side note Google Play Services doesn't function or sync properly.
This issue has been quite bothersome, especially since the clean wipe and install doesn't solve this issue., although I did backup/restore all of my non-system apps via Titanium Backup.
If anyone could help me figure out the problem I'd greatly appreciate it!

[Q] LED Notification Problems

Since the latest update I have been unable to receive LED notifications. Before the update I had:
1. Blue LED flashing for Touchdown Exchange messages
2. Yellow for incoming SMS
3. Green for pushed pop or gmail
4. Red for missed call
These seemed default as I didn't set these up specifically. I liked this arrangement. I should note that I use GoSMS Pro as my SMS client.
To remedy my new lack of LED notifications, I've attempted a few applications from the market, specifically called Light Flow, even trying the "test mode" to cause dancing LEDs. It did not fix this problem. I've also tried a dancing LED/disco LED apps from the market, with no blinking LEDs.
The only LED I get now is when I plug in to charge, a green LED.
Has anyone seen this or have any ideas on how to remedy this issue? I really liked being able to see what was flashing and get an idea on the source of the beep, it would help me decide if I should ignore it without even unlocking the phone.

I haven't had this happen at all. Mine still give the correct LED notifications that it always has.
If you are on stock firmware, have you considered a factory reset? It's the only thing I can think of and might narrow down the problem. If you do the reset and it continues to persist than it isn't an issue with the OS but instead either the hardware or an app.
Thank you for your reply.
I have been extremely hesitant to do a factory reset. I use my phone primarily for work purposes (although it is rooted), it's loaded down with QuickOffice files and Touchdown is all configured the way I like it. A reset really has to be a last resort.
I do remember I had installed youmail and this notification thing happened shortly after. I have uninstalled that application but the LED notifications haven't returned.
Strange issue.

Strange indeed. I wish I could say something else that would help, but I can't. If you end up doing a factory reset, get titanium backup and backup all the files, use SMS backup+ to backup all the messages to your gmail account, and then just copy all the files over to the PC or a new SD card.
The factory reset should only take an hour at most to recover from if you take precautions and back up everything prior to it.
If you want to root and enable sideloading after the reset, you will need to use Gingerbreak. If you do this, make certain your external card is not in when this happens and that you have no data stored on the internal card as it will erase the internal card.
Hi Darrell,
I have purchased Titanium Backup Pro, I have used it in the past to freeze and unfreeze applications. I have never been successful however in backing up and restoring program data. I'll scour the net some more looking for a solution before/if I do a reset. If I find anything I will post it in this thread.
Thanks for your help.

[Q] Camera Flash / LED Not Working

Hello!
Last night as I was toggling on TeslaLED to shine some light with the flash for the camera, the light turned on for about a half second and then turned off...at the time I just assumed that TeslaLED had crashed or something and didn't think anything of it...however, now in testing the flash for the camera as well as TeslaLED and the Torch app that is built into my ROM I am finding that nothing is able to make the light come back on...
So far I've tried:
1) rebooting the phone
2) using the camera app, TeslaLED, and Torch to make the light turn on
3) rebooting the phone and clearing all app cached data (which has apparently been a fix for others: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-support/218009-camera-flash-not-right.html)
Anyone else have any suggestions? I am not knowledgeable about LEDs or anything but I'm wondering if it "burnt out" (if that's even possible)?
I'm no stranger to replacing hardware--I've already replaced the motherboard in this phone once, and I see that replacement LED/flash things on eBay are pretty cheap...but opening up the phone is such a pain! I'd like to exhaust all other options first.
Thanks!

[Q] Canadian D803 and Light Manager/Light Flow

I've noticed from other threads that people are able to get LED apps like Light Manager to work on the G2, but it absolutely will not work for me. I'm wondering if it might be a software difference in the Canadian version of the G2 which makes it incompatible.
I've tried Light Manager and Light Flow. I've tried normal modes and alternate modes. I've tried with the notification LED settings on the phone in every combination of on/off and checked/unchecked. I've spent hours fiddling, and Light Manager and Light Flow simply do not manipulate the LED whatsoever. Not even with the test function in the apps.
Anyone with a Canadian variant of the G2 had any luck?
For the record, the default LED settings on the stock ROM behave as expected, so the LED works fine. I've used these apps on several other phones and never had any issues tweaking the LED to my heart's content.
Rogers, stock ROM, rooted, no other tweaks.
Edit: Something else different about this variant is that you cannot specify different LED notifications for individual contacts. When you edit a contact, there is no such option like there is on the US variants.
I'm going to be lazy and paste in a reply I did for the same issue on another board:
For myself, I found that although the native notification LED's worked, that none of the 3rd party apps nor light flow could control the LED. I did a Reset to Factory and then light flow worked for me except for Calendar; and email seemed to want to remain green rather than the colour I set it for.
HOWEVER, before going the Reset to Factory route: one question (possibly to prove a theory) -- did you back up your settings to Google Servers and allow it to restore app data and previously installed apps? I did, when I switched from my Samsung Galaxy S3 to my new LG G2. But before I did my Reset to Factory, I turned those settings off and set everything up from scratch and installed my apps one by one.
My theory is that restoring app data and previously installed apps will work fine when switching from a G2 to another G2 but possibly not from another device. It makes no sense that a Reset to Factory would fix my issue with 3rd party LED notification and light flow; so I wanted to take it one step further rather than find out a reset did not fix the issue because somehow the restoring of data was causing a problem.
Note that turning these settings off does not mean you have to redo your contacts or calendar, those still sync'd over after my Reset to Factory.

I did not look forward to doing a Reset to Factory, I didn't want to redo anything more than the next person but I did want to get light flow working.
I ended up factory resetting and it solved the issue. What a pain.
Thanks!
I was about 80% finished configuring/tweaking my G2 to my liking when I decided to bite the bullet and try the reset to see if it would fix light flow before I got too far.
If I may ask, did you allow the device to restore your settings from Google servers and apps from the Play Store? I just wanted to see if this part is just an unfounded theory or if that made the difference; or if just doing a reset regardless of settings would have worked. Basically, I lost my saved wifi settings but to the best of my knowledge, that was about it -- the really important stuff like contacts and calendar did sync over.
May I also ask if you can get native or light flow to trigger the Calendar LED's, and if your Email LED is green or a colour you chose in light flow?
Thanks!

Notifications problem

Hey guys i got a problem with notifications and i searched online but i did'n find anything so, here i am!
I recently rooted my Nexus 4 and after some time i flashed Faux m31 Kernel, it's great and everything works fine except for notifications: i see them only when i turn on the screen, even after having installed Lightflow notifications. I tried to change various settings, but nothing has changed: i keep not getting notifications.
Trying to phone myself the screen goes on but i don't get vibrations or sounds. Unistalling Lightflow notifications and setting them in the specific apps i got the same result: abslutely nothing. I am on rooted stock rom 4.4.2, ClockworkMod Recovery, Faux m31.
I'd really appreciate any advice!

Music from unknown origin - not killable :(

Starting today I at times get some melody that sounds a bit like that Samsung bootup sound, but longer, maybe 10 seconds - and it keeps getting repeated, killing my nerves.
Went into application manager, but wasn't able to identify the culprit, and to my annoyance I wasn't even able to stop it at all (except for by reboot)! Battery stats showed a lot of drain by media server, but it wasn't in the process list. A friend suspected Timely to be the cause of it, but uninstalling that alarm and clock app didn't stop the melody. After another reboot the tablet remained silent - until a minute ago, when I plugged the power plug into its jack. [emoji35]
Anybody here having a hint for me? I'd really appreciate!

Your tab is haunted. ......lel
Just kidding not sure what could be making that. Do you have any sort system sounds enabled? Try leaving System Sounds off and media and notifications on, and so on so at least you get an idea of where its coming from
Sent from my Nokia Lumia 1520
Hm. Muting notifications makes the sound go away, muting system sounds doesn't.
Is there some tool like lsof for Android?
Silly question, of course it's available.
But - the output doesn't show ogg/wav/mp3
Any hints what to look for?
sounds like an app is trying to push through a notification that might not be coming through. I would try (i know its a pain) deleting and re installing some of the apps that you may have installed around the time the noise started occurring. I had turned off notifications for an app that still managed to do a pop up notification for a game i play (settings still showed notifications off). I had to force stop and wipe the cache and it never did it again.
Hm. Do you think wiping the whole system cache will do as well?

It's worth a shot. You could also just do factory reset
I had a similar problem and it was the Yahoo! mail app, which was configured to play a notification sound when messages were received, but not to show anything in the status bar, which was making me crazy because I did not know why the device was playing a sound without nothing visibly happening. Hope it'll help. Cheers!
