Music from unknown origin - not killable :( - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Starting today I at times get some melody that sounds a bit like that Samsung bootup sound, but longer, maybe 10 seconds - and it keeps getting repeated, killing my nerves.
Went into application manager, but wasn't able to identify the culprit, and to my annoyance I wasn't even able to stop it at all (except for by reboot)! Battery stats showed a lot of drain by media server, but it wasn't in the process list. A friend suspected Timely to be the cause of it, but uninstalling that alarm and clock app didn't stop the melody. After another reboot the tablet remained silent - until a minute ago, when I plugged the power plug into its jack. [emoji35]
Anybody here having a hint for me? I'd really appreciate!

Your tab is haunted. ......lel
Just kidding not sure what could be making that. Do you have any sort system sounds enabled? Try leaving System Sounds off and media and notifications on, and so on so at least you get an idea of where its coming from
Sent from my Nokia Lumia 1520

Hm. Muting notifications makes the sound go away, muting system sounds doesn't.
Is there some tool like lsof for Android?

Silly question, of course it's available.
But - the output doesn't show ogg/wav/mp3
Any hints what to look for?

sounds like an app is trying to push through a notification that might not be coming through. I would try (i know its a pain) deleting and re installing some of the apps that you may have installed around the time the noise started occurring. I had turned off notifications for an app that still managed to do a pop up notification for a game i play (settings still showed notifications off). I had to force stop and wipe the cache and it never did it again.

Hm. Do you think wiping the whole system cache will do as well?

It's worth a shot. You could also just do factory reset

I had a similar problem and it was the Yahoo! mail app, which was configured to play a notification sound when messages were received, but not to show anything in the status bar, which was making me crazy because I did not know why the device was playing a sound without nothing visibly happening. Hope it'll help. Cheers!

I have a strange issue with my Vario II !

When I re-set my phone, I get one of the alarms going off, and the vibrate alert.
This happens about 4 or 5 times in succession for no apparent reason when Windows loads.
It then happens intermittently, but not as often, for about 5 minutes – again sounding and vibrating.
I do not have this alarm sound set up for any action in the sounds settings. It doesn’t matter if I have an appointment or not. I do not have an alarm set-up.
One additional point (which indicates a software fault) is that I had my phone replaced for SA issues and I did a full backup before I changed the phone (this problem also happened on my old phone). After a full restore, the problem was copied to my new phone.
Does anyone know / or has anyone had this issue and resolved it?
Thanks all.

Anyone any ideas on this (other than a hard reset)? It's driving me CRAZY!!
since youre still using the old restore... youre just moving the problem...
You can try to uninstall your apps one by one...
But it's faster to hard reset and re-install it one by one..
You could try installing alarmtoday by pocket max, this will list each alarm/notification/every sounding event on your system, you can then see what's causing this and hopefully cancel it.
if you find out, let us know. Good Luck
Thanks guys -- I figured that my worsed case scenario my be my only option.

Just a thought but if you go into Sounds and Notifications do you have 'vibrate' set for Activesync?

Vibration not working

Hey guys,
Recently I flashed exynos 5.4 (didn't like it) and I think it made the phone lose the vibration. Specifically the messaging part. I flashed back to stock KG6 but still problem persists I wiped all data, wiped cache and wiped dalvik cache.
However... the phone vibrates when I get phoned
I usually get a vibration notification when I get a message through SMS, whatsapp and MSN (I used mercury, ebuddy and stock IM app)
vibration is set for always on. I checked the app settings and vibration is checked.
Silent mode on/off doesn't matter.
Anyone has an idea what to do?
I don't think it's (fully) broken because vibrating when getting phone is working and you get a slight vibration when you switch to silent mode to let you know that it vibrates when getting phoned or messaged
Maybe it is an app, later in the evening I will do another FULL reset and wait with restoring with backups and just download whatsapp of market and see if it will vibrate. Maybe.. just maybe it's something with my google account. I'll try my old account as well.
Had the same stupid thing
Some app like this fixes it
search for force vibration in the market
i realy hate why for all things we must install some special apps if something goes wrong...use this use that...its android yeah...

[Q] Unknown sound Will Not Stop Chirping [Slimkat/SlimLP]

I'm stumped. I was on Slimkat 4.4.4 and a few days ago this chirping sound started. I'm not a big notification guy. As I can't have the audio disturbance in my line of work. I use lights mostly. A few days ago this sound, a chirp came out of the phone. Then another. Then another. It wouldn't stop. I pulled down the notification bar. Nothing there. I have NEVER had any roaming notification turned on for my device. I'd been running Slimkat for months with zero bugs. I have no idea what could be causing this chirping notification.
Sometimes it will go off every second for about a minute. Perhaps 70-75 seconds. Then I won't hear from it again for 20 minutes. Then it'll maybe chirp 5 times. This time randomly. Chirp. 10 seconds pass. Chirp. 1 second. Chirp. 5 seconds pass. Chirp. Then nothing for an hour. It was also not a notification sound I'd ever heard on the system before. Weird.
So I figure some bug has crept up or I've installed something that is acting up. Since I'd been planning on going to SlimLP why not now with this annoying mystery noise. So I factory reset, wipe data, cache, format system install SlimLP. Lo and behold, at the welcome screen of SlimLP, before I log into any account on the fresh install, the chirp. Any ideas? There is never any notification listed as having gone off. I downloaded a notification history app. Nothing listed in that app. Even as the sound goes off with a the app open. Nothing registered. No app registers as causing it. I'm completely stumped. If anyone has seen this before I would love to hear from you.

Music randomly starts playing.

This is driving me crazy and I've been searching all over the internet. The same song starts playing usually early in the morning, today it also happened just before 11am with the phone away from me and the screen closed. When I open it the music stops and no app is open. No alarm profiles, gestures turned off but I am not close to the phone, bluetooth turned off. Any ideas? Pure with marshmallow.
when did this started happening? Now remember which apps you installed since then and delete them, another option is to go to battery settings and see if anything is using too much battery but without you opening it
PS: Are you sure its not a family member doing it just for fun??lol
PS2: Delete the song?_?
Probably about a month ago and not very much, has gotten to be more. I have checked battery settings can't find anything that is using battery.
Positive nobody is doing it. Just the wife and she is not enough up on technology.
Yea, I will probably try deleting the album. It's always the same thing on the same album.
I have gone through the apps and there is really nothing else that would be controlling a song.
Thanks for the ideas.
if it starts playing another song then try a factory reset
Yes, factory reset was first on my list and it's still happening. Maybe I'll look at roms.

Android 11 weird momentary popups

Hi folks,
I let my phone (6T, international version, completely stock never rooted), update to Android 11 this morning.
One thing is bugging me so far: at random times, I'll get brief flashes of some other window popping up momentarily (too fast for me to see what it is), and then it goes away. But it throws games into pause mode and takes me out of the flow.
What's causing this and how do I turn it off?
Welll this is not a normal behavior, so noone know why and how. Seems android 11 is not yet stable for us. I rolled back to android 10 on my 6T mclaren
Progress update: this problem seems to have resolved itself. I think it may have had to do with each app gradually settling in. A few reboots and some hours later the phone seems stable, though I'm having a few smaller issues like my phone icon left my home screen, I've now got TWO "Contacts" apps, and other minor stuff.
More update... the popups are back. I think they happen frequently after a reboot then settle down over time. I will keep an eye on it and report back anything I find in case it helps others.
Partial solution: I filmed what was going on in slow motion and despite my hand being in the way I saw the popup said "Gallery kee" presumably "Gallery Keeps Closing" or something like that. I don't use the Gallery app so I disabled it in Settings\Apps. Let's see if the problem keeps up. Maybe other apps are also contributing, and I'll have to address them one by one.
After a full day and another reboot for unrelated reasons, I can confirm that disabling the Gallery app fixed the problem. Not a single popup since I disabled it. Since I never use Gallery, only Google Photos, for me it's no loss. Probably a cache wipe would have sufficed as well. I did a a full cache wipe today to address a Gmail issue, and at some point I'll re-enable Gallery and see if the problem recurs despite the cache wipe.
