[Q] How do I downgrade 4.4 to 4.3? - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

So I bought the XOLO Play Tegra Note 7 ; I got this today.
Inspite of very less , rather no development for this device , I still bought it because it is a bang for buck ( got it for INR 8k ; roughly $130 )..
I have done all my homework behind this tab before buying .... and have reached a conclusion that I am in no way gonna stay with kk ...
( I got 4.4 out of the box ) ... and I want to downgrade to 4.3 JB ...
Anybody please spend a minute or two to suggest me how to do it? Can I do it in the first place?
Any suitable workaround ?
I will be grateful Thanks! :highfive:

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I think you'd have to root and use supertools!
Out of curiosity, why is it you want to revert back to JB? I was thinking about it myself so that I can get EA games to work but i'm sticking with KK in the hope that nvidia release lollipop soon. I could be waiting a long time though :/

Thanks for the heads up
One of the 3 reasons why I want to get JB on this is the same as yours
To get EA games working ...
The other 2 being better RAM management and battery life ...
Will root it tomorrow and downgrade .... Thanks!
And as far as L for pur tab is concerned .... I find it highly unlikely that they're gonna roll it out anytime soon
Nvidia seems to have forgotten about this wonderful tablet :crying:

The RAM utilisation and battery is why i'm hoping lollipop will get pushed out sooner rather than later. I'm staying optimistic that we'll get it not too far in the future (I only got it on my HTC One recently) but Nvidia's silence on the issue isn't doing their PR any good with their existing TN7 customers.
I have had the TN7 through quite a few OTAs and I didn't notice a difference with battery consumtion, does JB perform a lot better in that respect? It might persuade me to revert back if that's the case, i'm already rooted so I don't have anything to risk in that regard. It's just a lot of hassle reinstalling everything again, I only recently wiped the thing and started fresh (I couldn't get rid of that stupid "insufficient memory" message from google play updates, even though I had about 5GB available).

Andy4Shurr ... Not drastically but battery is supposed to get better by 130% if you revert back to JB ....
I am currently getting 450 MBs of free RAM right now on KK .... My friends owns a tegra note 7 too .... he never upgraded to 4.4 ... and he supposedly gets 560-570 MBs of Free RAM even with quite a number of apps intstalled.
Plus the adreno GPU works way better on 4.3 on our tablet ... I rooted my tab some minutes ago and am planning to downgrade now
Will run tests and will use it and update you with my personal opinion about the difference if you want me to :good:

That would be really helpful, thank you. It will be just my luck that I'll roll back and then Nvidia will release lollipop... mind you, that wouldn't be too bad I guess

So did you see any improvements Entrana? You've had me really pondering the idea of going back to JB and I've just finished backing my tab up ready to downgrade. I'll probably get it restored this morning to see if there is a notable improvements on my device.

I am so sorry Andy I totally forgot I had to tell you about my experience with reverting back ...
I saw many many many notable changes ...
The tab heats less upon heavy gaming .... even when it does, the touch responsiveness is unaffected... ( This annoyed me a lot when I was on 4.4)
Reverting back seems to work wonders on the battery juice!!!
Also I got EA games to work now
I experienced an issue with the flip cover when I was on kk , the screen didn't wake up automatically when I removed the cover.
But it works every single time for me now when I'm on JB :fingers-crossed:
However the free RAM apparently is the same as kk , but the overall performance is butter smooth now
The stylus is the same , my younger brother keeps on drawing stuff from it all day
And yeah , the camera just got from poor to poorer :3
Hope this helped :good:

Thank you, I have just finished flashing JB on my tab actually (for the second time - I restored some KK data using titanium backup and then it wouldn't boot after the first attempt so I'm just restoring Market Apps only now I have used Supertools to flash JB again).
I can't wait to start playing Real Racing actually, I have missed that game so much, haha. I don't use the camera much either, only the front one for skype, so that will be fine.
Thanks for the feedback.
EDIT: I read yesterday that Real Racing 3 has been fixed so it works on 4.4.2 without those audio problems so I have actually upgraded back to KitKat and I can confirm this is true. I do notice that battery has taken a hit though, if I'm charging and downloading/browsing at the same time I still see a discharge (even in power saving mode).

Excuse moi, but the TN7 has a Nvidia GPU, not Adreno GPU found in Snapdragons, right?

Yes it does, it's the Tegra 4 chip

[Q] Sad about my galaxy note, advice please :(

Hello all, first post here after reading for quite some time
I researched alot and decided to buy this phone because I concluded it was the best, performance, quality, resolution, etc
I have the phone for a week now and I don't feel happy with it, overall I see the phone is not really smooth, it frequently freezes for like 2 seconds when opening or closing an application, I was quite happy until before I installed some apps, like modern combat 3 and aftermath xhd, I can't install those via market because it says it's not compatible with my device, so I tried them out because I was too curious to see its performance, and I'm very disappointed...
modern combat 3 is unplayable, the menu is laggy, the game feels like its constantly loading something, it's choppy, I played only half of the first level because I couldn't go on anymore. Aftermath XHD was laggy at first, but now I'm at the sniper level and I had to give up, it's unplayable, when a shot is fired it lags so much it stops for like 3 seconds. I read all over the internet that those games run smooth on defys, so what's the problem here?
I'm at stock rom and kernel (N7000UBKK1, 2.6.35.8-N7000UBKK3, GINGERBREAD.UBKK3), I'm not really into flashing, but after reading over the games thread people saying it's smooth and working fine I think it's my only hope, if it doesn't fix it I guess my hardware would be faulty then.
I'm starting to think that the internal disk is the bottleneck, and I'm not sure if updating can turn a non-playable game smooth, so has any of you guys ever experienced this or been through this, can give some advice or based on your experience point out if it is possible to solve this problem?
thanks in advance

Hey, after using the Iphone 3gs since its release I must say Im impressed with both Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note BUT the random freezez and input lag that appears every now and then is just frekking annoying. Even with custom romz and different kernels this happens atleast 10 times everyday. As a techie guy I like the freedom that android gives me compared to the endless jailbreaking and ego behaviour by apple. However I'd say android devices must with the current hardware fix this type of problems since in the end user experience is the most important and If I spend 600 euros on a phone I'm sad to say that touchwise it still lacks a lot but after playing with it now for two weeks I have to say that I've gotten used to it. Samsung should stop pushing so many devices and focus on making the android software more stable, better touch input and reduce the frekking lag, dual core or not.
This forum is the best I've found and has everything a phablet nerd needs
Samsung Galaxy S2 - Stock Rom 2.3.5 with Launcher Pro (faster than the note with standard settings!!!!)
Samsung Galaxy Note - RocketRom V9 KKA 2.3.6 Launher Pro, CPu 1,6 mhz (still!! laggs sometimes)
Yeah, the Note is not polished enough yet. But don't lose faith - it will get better once we get ICS, shouldn't be that long. Right now it's up to you - you can improve it noticeably by flashing, tweaking and overclocking. I did that and I don't look back it ain't perfect but good enough for me.
KL3 soft + Abyssnote 2.5 kernel + OC (1650) + either lulzactive governor and vr scheduler (very responsive OS) or ondemandx gevernor and sio scheduler (smoother 3D games). These are settings that do the trick for me.

If your game data is in your external SD Card, that may well be the problem
Anyhow, the Note is a niche device with a flavor of early adopting, since it's the first phone with this big a screen (the streak was a tablet, if I'm not mistaken?) and because it's one of the three first with a HD resolution.
What does that mean? That many things that work flawlessly on lesser devices won't work here simply by lack of dev support. One example? The gameloft games, my favorites. None of them are officially supported, and I haven't managed to make them work unofficially.
One thing is for sure: Android required flashing, period. The Defy is crap without any flashing, so is the Atrix, and now the Note is. At the very least, put on the CWM recovery, which takes about 60 seconds of your time, and try the custom Kernel that is swimming lonely down in dev section that allows you an OC of 1.7ghz. See if that helps with the lagging.

Don't worry with this kind of responses, you'll get them here sometimes. This is XDA, forum 100% dedicated to tinkering with phones so who cares what's compatibile with what. Make it work and enjoy.
This game is about 1.4GB if it has been installed on your internal memory you will definitely run out and and your phone will struggle,go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Remove To SD card.
Just another boring witch hunt thread (yawn).
thanks a lot for the replies guys, you guys really helped a lot, I'm a lot more confident now and anxious to start flashing!
I got one question before starting the flashing process, is the JIG dongle for the S2 compatible with the note? I can't find the note JIG anywhere around here
I thought mw3 didn't work with the newest gingerbread yet.
Like the above poster said, try kl3. Little lag I had disappeared.

Now That You Have ICS Is Your Note Noticeably Faster?

I'm not intersted in Quadrant or Antutu scores. I'm just curious if after upgrading to stock Samsung ICS you actually notice speed improvements on your note.
Meaning, does switching between screens seem faster? Does moving around the phone feel slower? Things of that nature. Now that the hardware GPU is actually being used can you see/feel the difference?
Thanks
I can't recall whether the app drawer and screens scroll better but one thing is for certain, web browsing and scrolling through the market is hugely improved.
Messaging is also less laggy and more responsive, the S Memo has been improved a great deal.
It's a good update but I wouldn't be shocked to see another incremental update to polish it off.
For me it seems more laggy and drains battery faster. Few apps crashed as well. I'm sure sammy will release few more updates but I'm not too thrilled for this release. I have heard people bricking their phone & missing key feature apps for premium suite (MyStory and s-note) with this update too, feels like Samsung did half ass job on it.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
The areas that it is definitely faster for me are:
1. Coming out of the lock screen
2. Pulling down and pushing back up the notification bar.
3. In ADW EX, pinching to zoom in and out of the homescreens and homescreen previews is smooth now, It used to be pretty stuttered in LC2.
4. Music apps that require touch input to trigger sounds eg. Solo, TheDrum, Grand Piano. There is noticeably less latency between touching the screen and hearing the sounds.
ICS after 24 hours
I can confirm the following after testing this release under myriad conditions
ICS Stunner is a 100 times better!!
seriously, all this hype and it still looks the same

Hi There,
First off all, the N-7000 didn't move officially to Ics yet, since we're all still waiting for the first Samsung stock leak.
Now what you see, are some AOSP, AOKP and CM roms based on Ics 4.0.4. They are more than ready for daily use, stable, but surely missing some Nice features like SPen....
On this forum, there is one leak from Samsung, witch is making Success, a chineese Ics leak, that is originally for the GT-9220, A Galaxy note released in the china, but not with the same processor, thus making the leak not compatible with the N-7000.
Super Devs like Chainfire, maxicett, Alba and others, took this and made it usefull for us!
Some says that it's risky, but believe me, I'm on the maxicet's one " TheMidTeam", and for me is the Best so far!
All the Samsung features are present, The rom is smooth, super fast, stable, and the Best is yet to come, once we'll have our own N-7000 Ics Samsung leak : let's say this Q of the year.
Once said, my freind : make your backup and choose one of the aboves Ics.
Just follow every step the Dev says, and you are set!
Good luck.

Really!?
One week out of the forum, and I become so outdated!
Well I Will check it out,
Any way, as I said, Things Will get much better.
Thank you so much my freind.
All the ICS ROMs I've tried were snappier than GB in general.
Installed it yesterday. Cannot really say it is noticably faster at this point. I have noticed the browser is faster and has many more settings. I have not had any issues and think it is a nice upgrade. It is certainly not slower.
For me its made a massive difference, everything loads instantly now, totally impressed how much so, never thought it would make that much difference.
My note started slower than with GB. Some FC, unable to use the camera, for example, as it frozes. But after some use, things are getting better.
I feel like apps data needs to be updated somehow, so with the use of every application it's getting better.
Anyway, I'm a bit "disappointed". I felt a higher improvement when installed ICS on my Desire HD, so I thing I expected in some way that Note will have a great improvement too. And yes it's better (now, with the use), but not so much as expected.
Maybe is just because with GB my note was already nearly perfect
How'd you get it, being in Plano, TX?

Initial releases are usually buggy and it seems that it's the case here.
What I can put it down to is whether or not ICS was installed after a full wipe as it appears that those who did it this way don't have the problems you mention above.
I also got it from kies as I was on stock LC1 (DBT) and have these annoying problems so if it continues I will either wait for an update from sammy (anyones guess when this might happen) or wipe then flash the new ICS.
when i first installed it was fast, now that i did a hard reset its insanely fast!!! i am very pleased with the update

Yeah it's probably best to start with a clean slate. When you've got all kinds of data from GB floating around while using ics stuff can get borked and whatnot.
Swyped from my Galaxy Note using Tapatalk
ICS in general is ok but I'm having issues with bluetooth. It regularly loses connection with my Nissan Connect car system. Also before on GB when streaming music over bluetooth the car unit would show the name of the track playing, on ICS it doesn't.
The exact same thing happened when I updated my Galaxy S2 to ICS. I want to try another brand phone, maybe HTC, thats running ICS to see if it is a problem with ICS or my Nissan Connect system.
As I wasn't having any serious issues on GB I reverting back until the bluetooth problem is sorted.

Should I upgrade to ICS?

Was just wondering.....
Kind of late to be upgrading
But I don't exactly own the phone.
Should I upgrade?
Will there be any issues with the apps / games?
Is there any new good functionality?
And I will be upgrading via Kies cause the phone isn't mine so will I be losing and Calendar Entries?
I know I won't lose contacts or apps....
Just worried about Calendar Entries.
ICS n GB really not much differences,ICS battery life shorter, unless you take the troblesom to do flash.
Better wait for Jelly Bean 4.1
no you should not . i m on ics but if i find enough energy and time i will go back to gb. ics on note is just gb with shorter battery life. paranoid is a good rom with very good hybrid features i liked it but because cm9 doesnt run an app that i have to run i had to quit using it . you can try it.
There are some superb ICS custom roms out there, but I try them out, even trying Stock ICS now, but at the end of the day GB is just so dam fast and battery life is amazing compared, all your miss is swipe to remove a single notification, a few extra Widgets and the odd setting...I suppose GB took a while to get to the good state its in now, perhaps when JellyBean arrives ICS will have evolved into a faster more battery friendly state...
My advise stay with GB
To be frank. I don't see a shorter battery life and I use my device constantly.
Ive usually drained the battery about 5 to 6 hours from a full charge.
I have Facebook, instagram, 4 gmail accounts (on push) and whatsapp.
yup ICS is faster in terms of response.... but also faster in draining battery
I would go back to gb if i could. I had no complaints on gingerbread ive found ics to have a less stable wifi connection and im not overly keen on the changes theyve made to task manager and the settings menu. I see little to no improvement overall and im sure my wifi is less stable i googled it and im not alone.
So keep it on gingerbread sell it in september and get the galaxy note2 running jellybean. Mine will be up for sale soon.

It's unknown, although unlikely that there will be an official release of 4.1. There will certainly be some 4.1 unofficial ROMs made available at some point though (I'm not sure the source is even officially out yet).

When my OTA notice (Samsung ICS touchwiz LPY) came in 1- 2 months back , I OTAed while watching TV. Easy as pie. ICS has been fine, better that GB in most ways but cleaner but minor upgrade, I like the new pen stuff, that I can use Photoshop and ICS apps and my battery life is fine. My only problem is the bug with my Samsung Car Dock, which freezes when I plug it in and have the phone horizontally but again my battery life is so good, I do not charge in the car. While I use the Samsung pen touchwiz stuff and am happy with the official toucheiz ICS, I would jump in a second to a pure ICS if Jelly bean was in since I love any kind of voice recognition stuff ( use vlingo and skyvi now) and the Google Voice/Google Now stuff has been rated as great and a game changer.
So while here at XDA it is all about odin, instructions and roms - which is fine - I can tell you that just straight OTA from Samsung touchwiz/ICS is easy and fine too ( at least for me and many others).
If you feel yourself wanting to get a smoother and faster experience at the cost of battery-life I would.
Just a note of caution though.
DO NOT FLASH STOCK ICS Chances are that at some period you will brick your note unless you flash another kernel (ie. franco kernel), because of the Samsung superbrick (or eMMc) bug.
If you are comfortable flashing custom ROMs I'd highly recommend using Paranoid Android. I am currently using it, and have had few to no issues with it. And with light/moderate usage, it still lasts me a day and a half or two between charges.
OK, updated to ICS via Kies a couple of days ago, and have tried it since. The battery life issue is a deal killer for me, and whatever extra features there are still does not make it better than Gingerbread overall. Can someone please point me to a thread or tutorial for rolling back to stock Gingerbread?

How moddable is the G2? Galaxy Note user looking to switch

Hi everyone
I'm a long time SGS2 and a galaxy Note user, and lately I've been thinking about buying an LG G2 (unlocked international).
since I'm a power user who hates Samsung's heavy skin, and seeing how close LG's skin is to that of it's home rival, I need to know how open to modding and flashing the G2 is?
the N7000 was pretty moddable but use anything other than samsung's stock based ROMs, and you have to deal with sudden reboots and crashes, and that's the case with all AOSP ROMs for me (currently running OMNI ROM on it, and it still reboots out of the blue at times)
so is the LG G2 anay different? is it easy to flash new ROMs to? how stable are AOSP ROMs on it? any features to be lost? (like the BIONZ image sensor on sony's z1 for example).
also any other advice and opinions on the device would be highly appreciated
thx folks
Aosp are generally getting a lot better, a few reboots every day is to be expected, however. The phone is quite moddable, you can install custom recoveries and flash custom Roms, although the bootloader is locked.
You will miss out on quite a few features, but some of them can be flashed back. You might find stock best for you and since you are an sgs2 user I'm sure you will appreciate the fact that dorimanx develops kernels for this beast. Best of luck.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Features to be lost - IR blaster, Qslide, and what not if you're running an AOSP ROM. Knock on works for most AOSP ROMs but Knockoff only works for some.
There're still some bugs with the ROMs, yes, but most should be pretty stable for you to use your G2 as your daily driver.

Also on the G2 you can mod just about everything with the Xposed mod, check it out and you will get an idea of what you can do to the G2 with that alone.

Haha! no man I'm not a flashaholic or anything I just want something that works and works smoothly, can you believe I never ever flashed anything on my SGS2? it just worked beautifully on GB, but then I got the note and all that changed, it was slow as ****! had to flash a tons of different ROMs on it! :/
hmmm..now I'm seriously considering the G2! so how's the RAM consumption? the LG UI looks heavy but you guys are saying it's light? like...finally lag free? yay! hmm, and how's the stability of stock? my friend's S4 randomly reboots even on stock, but my brother's HTC ONE never ever rebooted in the 4 months we've bought it
so is the G2 that stable with stock? and did LG improve it's record at software updates? do you expect to receive kitkat soon?
also, the 16 GB version is only 420$ where I live, while the 32GB version is 510$ unlocked, I'm thinking of getting the 16GB version just because if I go with the 32GB then the note 3 is just 70$ away hahahaha!
I don't install games, so I don't think storage would be an issue, what do you think? and is it different when installing ROMs? the 16 from the 32 GB version? I don't think it matters since flashing ROMs shouldn't affect the partitioning table (well unless you specifically flash a partitioning file!), but who knows how LG does things.
also...I think I'm getting either the Gold or the Red versions since they're Matte! any of you had an experience with those?
nice one witht he projector btw hahaha

I would generally consider the 32 gb option the better option here since it's really 10 gb of storage vs 24 gb of storage. You can't mess with partitions - at least nobody tried.
I would slam a case on it anyway since it's so fragile. The zero-gap screen technology makes the digitizer break if the screen breaks.

yeah..but it's also almost a 100$ more :/
I'll have to consider this more carefully I think!
lucky I rarely drop my phone, and with something as big and heavy as the note to be only dropped 3 times in two years (on carpet when I'm lazily using it in bed ) I think I can manage a relatively small device just fine....but yeah a case is a smart idea I guess!
thx mate

i would most definitely go with the 32gb version. especially if you like to have a bunch of music files or videos on your phone. this phone has a sweet DAC in it, so it makes playing my flac files that much better. i have a 32gb g2 and i have 14gb of space left. if i had a 16gb g2 i'd have low space. g2 tweaksbox, g2 xposed and gravitybox [jb] give you everything you'd want on stock rom that aosp/cm have for jelly bean.

Alright, so ladies and gentlemen, it's time for an update:
I bought a white D802 32GB version a couple of days ago, but didn't really have much time to get online, so far I like it, the speed, the battery life, but there are also a few quirks, occasional stuttering (nothing major, just every once in a while), KNOCK ON doesn't always work from the first time for some reason, and the screen..even though great by any standard, but damn AMOLEDs have spoiled my eyes, I can notice the color shifting from angles and it bothers me at times!
but yeah.......I'm part of the LG G2 XDA club now thx for everything folks

A message to all XSP Great Developers!

Hello, I am a user of XSP since August 2013, I have been using this device as my only device since then, and I can tell that I tried every ROM that came out for this device, maybe I can share a little bit of my experience if you let me ..
I am not a developer or anything, but I can help with something at least
Since we got our device we couldn't stand for one particular ROM, we always had to keep changing ROMs so we can get "better" performance, and frankly that wasn't great for most of us, I mean who would want to see his device not in a good performance where we can see lots of lower-price-devices like Xperia M (that has nearly the same support from SONY) get a better performance, and for the word "performance" here I mean RAM management, touch response, the use of those amazing LEDs... etc and didn't mean the performance of heavy games..
we had 4.1.2 and XSP was one of the best 4.1.2 devices out there, then we got the 4.3 and we struggled to get that without any problems in the latest 205 and 207 versions, right? and here I am talking about the flickering issue of the screen, then again we had that poor RAM.. some devs made great CM11 LBL ROMs that were amazing knowing that the kernel is 4.3 and it has some limitations, they made that "High Touch Sensitivity" option, even though it did turn off every now and then but it was great, then there was this HUGE step in XSP life, which was the official support of CM and other big names .. we had an official CM11, it wasn't that great since its was never built on .207 sources (always was on .201) that means it had flickering screen problem and never had the Glove Mode high touch option, so it was petty much unusable.. the CM12.1 was another huge move, it was built on 207 and had that option....... BUT.... it is lollipop! don't you guys think that it is a little too much for XSP? I know it can be buttery smooth and great, especially with latest builds of ALL ROMs from our amazing devs, but as soon as you install facebook and some big apps on that, you go back to the bad 4.3 again, sorry for talking so much, what I am trying to say is, can't we have a UBL CM11 (4.4.4) with 207 kernel sources AND the latest glove mode implementation (of the 5.1.1 in all ROMs) ? think about it, amazing performance, no flickering, no bad RAM management, no horrible touch sensitivity.. pretty much all we need in a smartphone, isn't it? yes it's not Lollipop, yes it's not Marshmallow, but it's an idea, like any other ROM we have, I guess it would be great to have that, and a it's worth a try, I guess
thank you all for reading this (or some of it ) I was just trying to give you my idea.. and I ALWAYS appreciate all the devs work, you gave XSP a shot that SHE can never imagine (that's right, XSP is a she and I am in love with her )
Im thinking the same thing I think devs shouldnt gave all their all time to creating new roms. We have a lot of Lollipop roms, but nothing different between them.
I think, devs should improve 4.3 experience,(or 4.4 you say).
And i think, they should spend much more time to improve the SP's software limitatioms or etc like Gamma/Display Settings, 720p 60 fps camera or something like that. Because our SP can handle it but nobody creates it or works for it. Im sorry about this..
Or the SP's most important thing, The LED's We have only Discolight app (sagar29) for this beautiful LEDs, i think they can improve and create different things about LEDs and give them a life again.
But i appreciate all developers, Thank u guys, you gave a life this phone...
Same line of thinking here! When I was with an Xperia PLAY at the time we heard we didn't was going to have ICS update with is can be equal to no KitKat for the SP, so then the devs work hard and brought ICS, JB and even a working KitKat for that amazing device, but come a time that all we wanted was a powerful and optimized OS and mostly of the devs focus on bring a powerful fricken as hell optimized GB version for the XPLAY with almost 320mb of free ram on a device with less then 512 of total amount of ram, I must say I kind miss this on the SP foruns, as you said, yes its amazing that we have even in alpha state a 6.0 ROM. But I want a fully lag free ROM, ram free with better ram management that I can use for months and not changing from one sluggish ROM to other whitin a week. A thing that always get me is that on the XPLAY we have a 720p record on most kernels (Lupus Kernel, DoomKernel etc.) and for better performance (say to get more free ram and better performance) the devs created a 480p version of the kernel and was fully functional, if someone with more knowledge can answer this for me, That would be possible on the XSP?
