my excitement died out as soon as i got the new ics update, thought it would have some better features , rather i got face unlock not working in dark and some new settings to play with , tried to fiddle with new settings but the excitement just is dying i was expecting some features like camera app from unlock, taking photos from recording and some extra bit of features which would help me in my day to day life
i dont use the formula match do u in your day to day life use formula match, and shape match..?? s note is a good app but...
i am not a expert user and am afraid to flash new roms because of bugs
Same here. Not much stock features in ICS because of TW.
Here too. Not happy with the ICS upgrade. Nothing much and a horrible battery life in return.
Yep totally agree I had a better experience on my x10 with an ics Rom...there's so much more they could have achieved with such a good device..and for the battery that's another story...bak to gb for me..

I felt the same as you, all the ICS custom ROMS are plain and boring, i found it laggy and unstable with too many FCS but when I came across ParanoidAndroid, I could not go back to GB With the tablet mode enabled, i feel like my device is on a whole new level.
Give it a go! Battery life is excellent, restored all apps from Google Play Store from 45% now down to 37% with over 10 Apps restored including its settings etc..
Love the smoothness of this ROM!
The only thing I was interested in was gpu, and multicore support throughout, thats made such a massive difference o the device. All the other features of ics, you can get by installing a different launcher. Pretty much every new android update there's normally only a handful of features that you can't get already by downloading app from the play store, and rooting. Thats the beauty of android apple users always say android is fragmantated because we don't get the updates, but what tey don't realise is most often features google implement are taken from custom roms, launchers, apps or rooting and using a mod created on here. At android you don't need the new os if you want new features.
i was hoping for the same ICS as the galaxy nexus has
i have been trying apex launcher as its quite close to the ics on the nexus
but a few things i dont like - cannot edit apps to where i want
only by date install, title etc
the stock ics using TW is pretty similar to the GB one i used
shame really
Lets start another whining thread, we didn't have enough of those already
The answer to everyone's problems: CM9. flash it and never look back
We must have a new section in the GALAXY Note forum for those who expected a kitchen sink alongwith the ICE Cream Sandwich update.

Dear omersak,
Totally agreed... Try paranoid v0.2 with thor kernel v0.9 and enjoy hbyrid phone/tablet mode + overclocking cpu/gpu... i easily get 55 fps in nenamark2...

thanks for sharing your views , about cm9 but then i am not very used to android and i think there may be more who are afraid for the brick bug..... and the system of warranty here in india is very bad specially samsung they would atleast take 15 to 20 days and finally repair and not replace or instant swap
Paranoid Android 0.2, Thor Kernel, changed clocks and voltages.
Chrome Browser. Spell Check. GPU Rendering. I don't miss S-Pen at all.
I too was a little unimpressed with ICS at first. Then Paranoid Android came and I could never go back.
Sorry, but the problem with the open source ROMs for this and other phones is that you lose hardware functionality (camera / FM radio / S-Pen, for example). And I'm not buying a $700 device to then install an operating system that does not allow me to use all it's hardware.

Come on guys its not iOS ! Flash a rom, change your launcher ... customize to your liking. There are some awesome TW based ICS roms like kingdroid, criskelo etc that let you use all the functionality of FM, SPEN etc, If you want to try out something other than TW then there are AOSP/AOKP roms and CM9 based roms.
Follow instructions and you will be safe even with the brick bug around.
hope someone tells the samsung guys that the need to work on interfaces like sony or htc where we get a better user interface then on the note which is nore efficient
Try trebuchet (i think thats how you spell it)

clearly you haven't tried cm9 yet ,you don't loose any of the things you just mentioned
camera is working perfectly ,1080p video recording as well.
FM-radio ,not out of the box but there is a workaround I believe (I never use FM so I haven't tried it)
S-pen is working perfectly ,you just need to install free note from the market to replace Smemo.
the only thing really not working at the moment is MHL ,and that too will get a fix in the near future .

Does it have Palm rejection?
Too much wining about ICS....
Ok, what did you people expected from it?? Whole new UI, faster, newer and better apps?? The whole android has guidelines, on GB people complained about this and that ICS is just an enhanced version of GB.....
Samsung could have made a new TW, i second that. And if it wasn't for "the bug" i know many of you would have already flashed a rom if it wasn't for that.
You can still flash and if you're careful you don't end up with a bricked note.
Come on look ate android versions before this, don't you all see improvements??
In my opinion android OS has com a very long way in a very short time. I don't want to make comparissons but IOS (apple) is using the same layout for years and although people are complaining they still don't change it !!! Look at symbian: i don't like it at all, things are not going well with it... If you just take a look at other OS'S you'll see that android is the one that evolved the most..
If you can customize it fully (with rom or apps) why the wining about it ???
Battery life on this kind of devices has and will be always the problem, we just have to accept that we have to charge it according to our use, once a day is acceptable (we do sleep don't we???) and there is no reason to turn the phone off during the charging process.......
I for one don't have many problems with ICS, i hust have to manage the battery life during the day according to my needs. I always have two chargers and a car charger so if i need to charge for an hour (or two) there is no problem.
Use it and don't make such a big problem of it.....
Ok, start the flaming or just say "thanks"

I know this is going to sound very much like a first world problem, but this phone is frustratingly ****. It is easily the buggiest, slowest, most laggy phone I have ever had.
I have tried just about all the LG based ROMS, only to find that each one, although not buggy, are all laggy. The lag is so bad that it gives my old S2 on Gingerbread a run for its money. At least with Samsung phones, you could get rid of the lag by using a AOSP ROM and it would still be functional.
To solve the frustrating lag issue, I have installed a CM based ROM. At first I was delighted. The lag was gone. The phone was now comparable to my super fast Nexus 5. But after a few hours, I noticed the same bugs that every other CM based ROM user has. Today, I had to restart the phone six times FFS! It is a little more stable on 777 Kernel, but the same issues still persist.
Has anyone achieved bliss with this phone? Is there any ROMS, AOSP or LG based, that are fast, (Nexus 5 fast), and bug free?
Don't get me wrong, I love devs and the work they do. Without them, my old Galaxy phones, (S1, S2, S3, S4), would have been poo. My Nexus 5 would have been boring. (Stock android is meh). I just don't understand why this phone seems to have so many issues. Help me understand why it is so hard to develop a fast and reliable ROM for this phone. I know it isn't from a lack of trying. There is heaps of support and devs working on various ROMS in the G3 threads already and all of them are very talented.
Is it hardware based lag or is there something else inherently wrong with the phone?
Thanks for reading and offering any solutions. I don't want to list the ROMS I have tried, as it will seem like I am an ungrateful twat to those devs that worked so hard. Suffice to say, I have tried all the popular CM/AOSP and LG based ROMS.

Compared to what? Which other android phone have you used? In isolation, this phone is barely acceptable. Then, after you use a nexus, HTC or Sony phone, this phone is comparably slow. Almost unusable.
I can't bring myself to try stock again until someone who has other phones to base their claims on can confirm it is lag free.

Have you tried the usual tricks?
1. Swap out the stock launcher for something like Nova or Apex
2. Switch your keyboard to a 3rd party keyboard
While it does suffer from the random stutter, my phone is generally very zippy and does not lag.
Done all that. On stock based ROMS, stutter and lag is unbearable. My wife, nexus 5 user, even commented on how bad it is. I'm actually embarrassed to use the phone in front of people. I know it isn't a hardware issue, because AOSP ROMS are lag free, but not bug free.
Yeah, the phone is nowhere near as quick as a Nexus. The notification bar is also **** compared to stock Lollipop. There are a few tricks I use to improve performance on a stock rom:
1) Turn off throttling/thermal daemon via the service menu.
2) I use setCPU to set the phone to use the "performance" scheduler whenever the screen is on, locking it at 2.5Ghz.
Still isn't perfect, but it helps substantially. Obviously this is in addition to changing the launcher.
It's just one of those things. As you say, CM12 just isn't stable and worryingly seems to be going backwards, getting less and less stable with each passing nightly. The camera is also completely crap on AOSP roms. Nexus devices are great but the N5 is old and the N6 is too big and expensive. The S5 lags too, and while Note 4 is supposed to be good, but I simply won't believe that Touchwiz lag is gone without seeing it with my own eyes. Even if it has gone, Touchwiz remains the ugliest skin I've ever seen. Sony phones are nice, but they aren't packaged anywhere near as tightly as the G3, which is it's biggest strength: 22mm shorter than an iPhone 6+, with the same size screen. That's impressive. HTC's are just ridiculously large for a given screen size. The 1+1 is old now, and doesn't support all LTE bands used in the UK.
There is no perfect phone. Whichever you choose, there are compromises to be made. However IMHO the G3 strikes the best compromise available today, at least once running the latest Lollipop build and with the tweaks I mentioned above applied.
Had most 2014 flagships and G3 is deff fav so far, didnt have KK as updated to LP out the box had little lag after ota but common just needed a factory reset and all good since
Just a tip you can use on any android phone, go to settings, developer options, and set all the animations to 0.5x. This drastically reduces the time the animations take, and it gives a very snappy experience. It makes a LOT of difference, trust me.
No lag whatsoever here. Im running Chupachups newest rom with rin kernel. I've previously owned htc one, lg g2, xperia z1 and this phone definitely outperforms them all.
Ive owned the Xperia Z1, HTC One M7, and tbh id rate this better than both, i would like the battery life to be better my Z1 was amazing for that buh im custom stock rom and i dont get lag, everything is as it should be.

Because LL is still unstable and buggy? And so is any rom based on it?..
Stock firmware sucks because of LG's software - it's very badly written. Almost as bad as touchwiz is. (I used SGS3, trust me on that one...)
AOSP/CM based firmwares are better, but they still suffer due do LL newness. Wait till android 5.1, things may become better.
There is also a hardware issue: unbelievably bad heat management. They used 8974ac, but had not made any cooling system. No radiators, no heat spread throughout the case, and it's facing LCD panel - which is a very bad radiator. GG WP, throttling kick in, phone starts to lag, etc etc etc.
I think there may be problem with your unit... Try to send it back to get a replacement or have it serviced.

I agree that most of the stock LG-G3 roms, Lollipop/Kitkat, if not rooted and without any mods, LAG is unavoidable. The case is, some people can't root their phones and most of them will try searching why G3 stock rom is lagging... if I'm one of them and I happen to see this post, I would feel bad and feel stupid at the same time why I spend money buying a crappy phone.
Well anyways, try Crash Rom v2.0. It is a stock based ROM like chupachups. The animation is not as fluid as CM but I won't say that it's lagging. Compared to CM, I have not yet encountered any bugs and mostly the camera is better. If you're interested you can also downgrade the resolution to 1080p, this will enhance your g3, 3d and 2d graphics performance.
Hi im all so on lollipop 5.0 updated out of the box and its all good maybe some lag not much to notice. Still no root method yet for stock lollipop 5.0 and i dont want to downgrade to kk so il have patience and wait for new root method for me g3
Wow, I went from the nexus 5, to the htc m8, to the g3 all in year. My advice, play with this one to get the phone lag gone. This by far is the best. Like a previous person said, turn off animations and change the launcher.

Already done all that. Animations are turned off, launcher animations are set to lightning fast, CPU throttling is turned off. I've tried all the tricks in the book. Fact is, LG based software is crap, just like Samsung.
So far today, the lock-screen has only frozen on me four times, which is good.
I'm not sure if I'd rather put up with a laggy phone or a buggy phone.
My phone is currently on V20h. Apart from the occasional Home launcher crash, I've not had any lag that I notice of. The last time there was any lag was on V10i. My phone is rooted but is not running any mods.
Prior to this, I've had the Note 3 and Xperia S. Compared to the G3, I would say that the smoothness is at the very least, on par with the Note 3 running on stock.
I've seen people complaining about the G3 being laggy too. Is your phone by any chance the 2 GB RAM version?
My phone is the 2gb version, but I always have at least close to 300mb free. Sometimes I have over 1gb free. Not that it should matter though, as I have read on numerous places that the 3gb version lags too, and that both phones are very close on performance. The extra 1gb of RAM is negligible.
Just flashing Crash ROM now. I think I'm going to regret it though, as I much prefer the look of AOSP anyway.
Ah crap. Just as I flash the ROM, I read that the dev is stopping support for our device. Based on the comments, it looks like a promising ROM.
First of all, this is not a childish "versus" topic to flame fanboys spirits. I just need some technical understanding of some issues.
So... I've run four or five Lollipop 5.1.1 custom ROMs on my C5303, including CM, AICP, XenonHD, Mokee. All are great and fast and developers made a tremendous job. Not all of them are so friendly with Tangerine kernel (I need a custom kernel for increasing in-calls phone volume), per instance, Mokee hangs and struggle like hell. AICP works well with T-kernel, but with some issues (reported by users), when the device will freeze for a few seconds. XenonHD loves T-kernel - no problem at all!
Still, all of these fantastic custom ROMs , with or without custom kernel, are sluggish compared with stock 4.3 Sony ROM. I've made a nandroid backup in TWRP of my XenonHD - T-Kernel installation and installed Binomical SLIM 4.3 base don stock. Just for the heck of remembering the Sony UI, I intended to restore XenonHD soon after. I'm still on Binomical 4.3. Man, this is FAST! This is a blazing rocket compared with any of the Lollipop ROMs!
On Lollipop ROMs I've had ~ 300 MB free RAM, on stock 4.3 (OK, deodexed and slim) I only have 150 MB, but Sony's ROM is way faster and smoother. It really looks like I have a completely new device in my hand. How is this possible? Why? The hardware drivers? Is X-SP really not able to handle Lollipop in a decent manner?
XDA developers worked so hard to gave us the Lollipop ROMs, and I praise their work, but looks like X-SP best choice is still the old JellyBean 4.3.
Agree.
All lollipop roms are really fast in the beginning but after sometime,it begins to lag and become slow and sluggish.I have tried many lollipop roms but always returned to stock rom. It's been 2-3 months that i'm on stock and didn't flashed any other rom.
dude flash latest cm12.1 nightly nd ull forget stock
4.1.2>4.3>5.1.1
I dont think this, i not know what version you test of aicp and xennon, thes lasts versions of aicp are laggy and xennon has battery drain sometimes, but the others no, all depends of the rom, have lollipops roms laggy and have lollipop fast roms, have kikkat laggy roms and have kitkat fast roms, and the same of all android version, the rom stock have good performance but battery drains, now i in miui 7, performance and battery are awesome
I NEVER had battery drains on stock ROM. Yes, lots of bloatware on official stock , but not battery drains. I also didn't encounter battery drain on any of the Lollipop ROM's I've tried - AICP stable and about 10 version of nightlies, CM, XenonHD latest and Mokee. Yes, those were not so "green" as stock, but nothing so horrible, maybe 10-20% less battery power than stock. The issues regarding battery were on calibration of the battery percentage, per instance it used to go downward normally till 6%, then, bang!, the telephone turned off with 0% battery all of a sudden. Anyway, this is a insignificant issue, I don't care if I'm gonna recharge battery one hour earlier, the real problem that brought me back to 4.3 stock was the PERFORMANCE.
What I can't figure out is how come 300MB free RAM Lollipop is worst than 150 MB RAM JellyBean. Why? Xperia SP can't deal with ART instructions, it's Dalvik-only? I mean, OK, our developers have limited resources and most of them test their code on their own device, they have to be careful and not trying something risky; by contrast, Sony have unlimited resources to develop and tune their ROM. I know that, it's obvious, all my respect to XDA developers. What I'm trying to figure out is what's that bump in the road, what keeps X-SP Lollipop to be blazing fast? It's ART? It's drivers? I't Tangerine kernel, that most of us "married" with LP ROM's?
Thank you guys.
To be honest, you have answered your own question based on your newer question.
It is optimisation, man. 4.3 (or prior), those stock ROMs are made by Sony. Since it is made by Sony, you can expect a very great deal out of it, battery life, performance and all of those sweet things.
Since Sony lied to SP users and abandoned the SP with the last known version 4.3, we have problems on optimising ROMs because of no official blobs to refer to.
It has been until now. Everything is, thanks to the hard work of developers, our Xperia SP can still run newer Android versions while still maintaining the "blaziness" of the ROM.
Needless to say, its optimisations.
As always, you have the rights on which ROM to use, so choose the one that suits you.
Guys, I am thinking of buying Xperia SP to use with Cyanogenmod 12.1 instead of cheap budget phone like Motorola E 4G. Price for me is the same, actually SP is cheaper than Motorola E.
I like SP because fast CPU and GPU ( Adreno 320 ! ) so it's no slouch and it has official CM12.1 support. I don't want to use anything other than latest 12.1 but I'm worried about performance and battery. Is it really that bad ?
I cannot try out the ROMs myself as I have not bought SP yet.
Is any CM12.1 ROM stable, fast and with good battery performance ? I see you have custom kernels for CM12.1 but what is the Linux version - is it 3.10 or above ?
Does SP have heating issues and performance problems ( like so many claim here ) ? Or maybe that appears only after some years of usage ?
What about this screen flickering problem which seems to be present in all CM12.1 ? How bad is it ?
Thanks for your assistance !
"Does SP have heating issues and performance problems ( like so many claim here ) ? Or maybe that appears only after some years of usage ?" It has those issues, but I think it depends on certain devices. Mine for example overheats with any rom, no matter stock or custom, while there are people who never experience those problems. As for stock vs custom it's clear enough that stock is best optimised.
I tested a lot ROMS.
I like the OMNI ROM (Android 4.4.4). It's really fast and stable. Maybe you should try it.
I like also the Xenon HD ROM (Android 5.1.1). It's fast. Not so stable, but still very good..
After a few days it gets a little laggy. I´d liked to know why to. Faced the same problem with AICP.
I've had similar experience as you guys with lollipop custom ROMS. As much as I wanted to like them, after trying few, I have switched back to stock. Lollipop roms look nice, they offer more features and battery life is amazing compared to stock. However, none of the roms are stable enough to be used as a daily driver. After few days every single one of them refused to boot up, forcing my phone into recovery mode, so the only way out was to reflash. It has been a nice experience, but XSP is my one and only phone needed for communication, not a toy, therefore I need something that works and does it reliably. I think I'd just get a nexus or motorola when it's the time to upgrade.

No heating issues, I mean CPU gets hot sometimes (with not regard of the ROM installed), but it's all at thigh as 60°C. Most Android devices are well in specs on that thermal level.
Performance regarded. CM Vanilla or most of the 5.1.1 custom ROM - it's fast for the day 1, then it gets little sluggish, you'll have to boot to recovery and clear dalvik/art cache to refresh you device. If you don't need kernel level modifications I recommend you to stay with stock FOTA, Tangerine kernel might cause some screen or device freeze and stutter.
Years of usage to get slower performance? LOL We're talking about hours!
Display flickering (or getting yellowish) I guess it's hardware related - some X-SP never experienced it (mine included).
OK. Thanks for your feedback guys. I cannot test myself since I don't have device.
Do you think developer support is strong enough that they will manage to get Android 6 working properly on SP ?
big dilemma
Hi guys,
I have big dilemma what to do. My wife liked to buy the XSP because of the LED lights etc. She uses the phone mostly for calling, texting and music listening. As she has the Deezer premium acc I went in big troubles with XSP because the known bad memory management. More than one year she have bothered with it(and me too . After the 2years waranty ending I have decided to root, UBL and test custom ROMs. First we have tried the lightered stock ArchXperia, which was not helping us. Now she is since August on CM12 nightly. Yes, Deezer works good now, but on the other hand she is missing the stock Sony apps, working LED bar(with music), stock FM radio and generaly dislike the 5.1 Android (she is little bit old school, not likes many new things to learn).
Please, could somebody recommend to me any rom, which is stable, close to stock look (apps incl.) and has good ram management, that Deezer will work good, without memory issues?
Was it maybe wrong, that I have skipped the 4.4.4 Android over?
Many thanks in advance for any kind of tip or idea.

Try a slim stock ROM, just as Binomical, based o stock JB 4.3. .207. It includes Williams kernel and that might do the trick with RAM management.
Yes, thank you, I was thinking about exactly this one... good to have the choice confirmed. Just installed, look forward to try it and test it on my wife

Or maybe you can check out the cm11 last build. Used to be on cm11 for a year with William's kernel and was pretty good. With some apps you can have the disco lights fully functional.

Terrific hardware and benchmarks alone don't make a terrific phone - one of the key takeaways for me from my exp with XSP.
Good optimised software by the OEM matters a lot to the user experience. I am 100% sure that with support from Sony for at least until the release of Kitkat could have made a huge difference now.
I rooted and flashed a new ROM on my phone approx. 6 months after I bought it. I was frustrated of the Stock ROM with so much lag and bugs after prolonged use.
But after using custom ROMs for almost one and half years, I miss the Sony UI. Every custom ROM (except for few) have the same old bland interface. I got sick of it to be honest, even though custom ROMs have better performance.
Next is the camera performance - another let down for me. Same goes to the phone speaker.
Well, what are your thoughts on the XSP before you go and buy another phone?

This Xperia SP has carved a wondeful meaning into my life.
All I can say is that no matter how hard I try there will be no phone that can replace my XSP.
The notification bar is the best aspect of XSP which cannot be found on new devices (S6 edge tried to replicate but I guess failed miserably). I love to color it according to the apps I use and while there are many phones with RGB Notification LED, none shines brighter than XSP
The roms have been hiccups. There were some that I liked but got updated to a point they broke (freezes and lags - staring at you Lollipop)
In terms of games I found many that work flawless on it and some that required more RAM and hence stutter a little but with so much old hardware that is to be expected.
The disappointment for me has been camera... I don't think it is possible for any other phone to tint pictures so yellow. But since I usually don't take pictures all that much it never bothered me much.
Lastly XSP taught me to buy a Z-Series if you plan to stick with Sony (which I do even after they abandoned us - yes yes I still haven't forgotten the betrayal of no 4.4 update, don't say you all have)
Yeah true, those darned Sony guys, this phone has equal hardware to the first Z ,but still they didn't consider us because we paid less
Sent from my Xperia SP using Tapatalk
SP was a good phone
it is a 2013 mid range phone which it beat 2012 flagship phone
just because sony mobile suck
The hardware is not bad, screen could be a bit better but otherwise it's OK. The (official) software on the other hand is the biggest piece of **** I have ever seen/used in my life. Although the fact that it looks like crap could be opinion-based, the fact that it runs absolutely horrible and has memory leaks and lags throughout is seen by all of us. Keep in mind as a tech guy I could solve this by flashing a ROM and kernel (even so this stuff is still hella confusing and requires a lot of patience), but remember that the idea of a phone being made is so eveyone could use it without having to do that. I can't even begin to imagine what the average user thinks of this phone. Basically it's phones like this that give Android a bad name and make people want to stick to iPhones. I was really surprised to see everyone having such a positive opinion about the Xperia SP on its forums; you guys seem to love it unconditionally.
A good phone. Think I got it free (or was it SGD30?) as an upgrade
My use is now limited to phone calls, whatsapp, sms, and the occasional surfing. Heck, even an old Sony Ericsson is good enough for my purpose
Anyway, time to say goodbye to Sony...and welcome a Xiaomi Mi 4i (tomorrow)

I have my sp for a bit over a year and a half now. The phone is absolutely not godlike, but over that past 1,5 year I've loved it. It covers my needs and I think it will keep doing so for a long time, thus I have no reason to go and buy another daily driver. But, I'll agree for sure with you on the "I miss the stock ui" part. I'm running a custom rom and a custom kernel for around 4 months (was sick of stock 4.3's random freezes, and I had customized the rom in some ways [kernel, unbloat and such stuff]). While the performance is heaps better, I miss the ui I experienced when I first powered on the phone, so that's why I'm going back to stock 4.1.2 (with another kernel and some mods of course - after all, this is xda god damn it) just to revive some of that......."nostalgia". Other than that, I wouldn't say it's a terrible phone at all. If not anything, it's one of the greatest devices I've used, and I'm happy I own and use one as a daily driver. I'll keep using it this way until it won't be able to cover my needs.

Exactly I don't plan on changing this since it covers my requirements, although I was tempted more than once to do it
Perhaps,
...Perhaps Its time to share my part of the story
My Xperia SP which is my first awesome fast smartphone
It took me into a new dimension of android rooting and flashing roms, kernels , bootloader
It has embraced me many type of error while flashing or crashing.
Unfortunately, My Xperia SP squeeze out its last battery percentage and went away....
So, My xperia sp's Battery is now dead and is sealed,
A New Monster arrived for me : Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Its my current device and a new replacement for my Xperia SP
The Good news is that sooner or later i will be Replacing the solder battery of the Xperia SP with a new one and bring it back to life!
I would really want to thank everyone in this thread for supporting this phone up till Cm13 (Marshmallow)
I would really want to thank everyone who had helped me along the way!

Good phone but very laggy and stuttering.
I dont blame the outdate ROM but I blame the bloatwares that cant be removed.
I only use my phone for 5 apps no games, and it lags
I used to like Sony but I believe it was taken over by western stocks.

I used to switch back to .254 a few times for it is faster than the newer ones. But after a while, it also gaining stuttering.
I recommend you use the pure stock version 3. which remove wares

I've had the Xperia SP for almost a year now, and I'll admit it has been one of the worst devices I've ever owned followed by my old Atrix 4G which lacked support. The touch problems, lags of the xperia. I will miss the led notifications and yes some bloat ware which was actually useful on the stock roms. Stamina, Small Apps, Camera App, Bravia Engine lol. The hardware is great and the phone feels solid but Sony just had to abandon it after jelly bean which really ticked me off. What i have learnt now is before purchasing a new phone go on the threads read about it's problems. Before I got this phone I didn't know about it's issues until I had it, but obviously it was too late. Well this is my last year with this device and surely if it wasn't for all the devs working so hard to bring the latest firmware Android 5.0 - 6.0 it would've been frustrating oh yah and the multitasking does suck though
Well the Xperia SP is a great device, awesome features and so but software is rubbish. And on top of that... the Xperia SP community is rubbish too! Mean users and developers. The lack of respect towards each other. I am happy with my S6 And I do know I wont be getting a Sony phone anytime soon
For users-
Hello everyone. xperia sp is old device with old functionality.
ram management is bad, shows 300 ram used while other phone with 1 gb ram dont have this issues.
touch issues and many other you people knows well.
there are a lot developers for xperia sp but which rom should i need to flash is a big question for me still now .
i am an old user of this phone.
this thread is a discussion thread welcomes all users share there experience or tweaks which they think should help each other.
please be friendly and help each other. this is only way to survive with this phone.
For Developers-
Hello Developers. we all love your work and this thread if you all take positively is for helipng the new users to not getting lost here.
i hope all will support.
please remember one thing before posting.
discussion is more about stability & features.
Hi
Please try all the ROMs, and eventually you will find the one that sorts out best for you. Mileage is vary for every person, and the "stability" is kind of a subjective placebo now, since the ROMs have been really mature thanks to the contributions of the developers in this marvellous forum. Basically what I am trying to say is that, it is now dependant on the user on how it feels about the particular ROM he/she is running..
I am a user of this device since December 2013.. It has been a really long journey, and I managed settle on a comforting setup.
This thread shouldn't be created under the Development subforum, but the General subforum instead.
Here, look at what i have in the attachments
Please avoid spamming in the development section :/
Hey there!,
There's always a lot of talk about the 'best ROM' and which one that is, and I get that question a lot via pm, meaning you're not alone on this one but I have a simple answer to that:
There's no such thing called the best ROM. Each ROM has different customization features, optimizations, etc. And the thing is, some people like customization and some like a stock feel. Also a few devices respond differently to different ROMs as well (strangely), some are fast and some are slow and horrible. If there was a 'best ROM', then other ROMs wouldn't exist.
In conclusion, if you want the best ROM, you're going to have to try a bunch of them and see which tailors to your needs the most.
Cheers
NOTE: You might want to contact a moderator and take down this thread or move it to General before Devs come running with pitchforks!
i won't repeat any talk from above because it's clear
no offense @Sam spancer but i reported this thread to moderator to move it to the general section
thanks for ur understanding
edit: thanks for the mod it has been moved (now it's in the right place)
Android Dev place is ze best place for things that are irrelevant. I'm probably going down along with this post because I can't do much these days
You know what the best rom is: multirom, so you can have them all!!
Arno is very correct!
Dear sp users this thread is for help. We should share what we experiencing with the rom.we have so for a person who is new here or want.to install a rom for daily use can have an idea about what to flash now. Thread will have rating feature also later.
Instead of critisizing or telling anything irrelevant does not help to any one.in any manner.
Guys instead of pasting that long messege is you would have said which rom.you.using and.how.satisfied.you are with that. Shared a little experience with other roms whould have helpd yet to a person who is about to.flash some thing.
If we do like this everyone.will be benifitted.
I stumbled upon this thread and it reminded me....that I'm yet to find "the perfect rom" for my xperia sp. I have this phone since April 8th, 2014. It's not the perfect phone, but I still love it as much as I did in day 1, plus it covers all my needs the way I want, so it's my daily driver, and it'll keep being so for a long time. Anyways, I've tried a.i.c.p. 10 (July 18th, 2015 being the best build of those I've used), which was fantastic. The multitasking is exceptional, the ram management is great (I'd say almost on par with the stock 4.1.2 - around 400+ mb of free ram), it was stupidly fast, super stable and also it had great built-in customization (imagine something like a built-in xposed framework or dirty unicorns' "dirty tweaks"). I was using this rom for around 3 months and was very pleased.
After around 3 months, I realised I miss the led bar's functionality level the stock firmwares offer (like, while making a call, if the display is on, the 3 leds will illuminate according to the theme color accent, also when recieving a call and the phone rings the leds illuminate again, etc.), so I reverted back to the stock 4.3, where I had begun with. However, after some time of using it, the stock 4.3 seemed somewhat....sluggish. I'd rooted it, removed all of the bloatware and was running a custom kernel (williams to be exact), so I was looking for a replacement. Having in mind that I didn't want to lose the functionality level of the led bar of the stock firmwares, so I looked for something based on that.
After a long time searching and trying out, I flashed the "original pure stock v3" rom, which is essentialy a quite trimmed-down version of the stock 4.3. I also made a Hatsune Miku theme as I admired (and I still do) the Japan-exclusive "xperia feat. Hatsune Miku" (here's a video about this phone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T751VmtMHPo) and its goodies, flashed a zip I found on xda that contained all the wallpapers (and the wallpaper changer that changes the phone's wallpaper everytime the phone is being unlocked), and also flashed williams kernel so I can have a better level of customization over my phone, and I was good to go. It was a better version of the stock 4.3, but still. Deep down I felt something missing......
Then I found the existenz ultra rom, which I found charming, and wanted to make my own version of the "xperia feat. Hatsune Miku" based on that. Flashed it, made the appropriate mods, and off I went again. This rom is actually stock 4.3-based, but with lots of xperia z2 goodies, so it's like having an xperia z2 with a led bar (which is working perfectly, the job done on that rom is quite good). After adjusting the ram management via the kernel adiutor and taking advice from a thread I found on these forums (if anyone's interested, take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751559), and of course, making the mods I wanted (mostly what I already described in the previous paragraph), I was in peace for quite some time....the ram management is around 300+/350+ mb free, so it's good I guess.
I'm currently rocking the existenz ultra, but I still feel something missing. I thought about reverting back to the stock 4.1.2 and its superb ram management (since I'm starting to have performance & compatibility issues with ppsspp - no idea if it's the app's fault or it's something else), but I'm not sure about that. I just don't know what to do anymore. The phone itself is awesome, but I've yet to find the appropriate rom to combine its hardware with. I'm looking for something that has the exact same led bar functionality of the stock firmwares, but also must be fast, smooth and that lets lots of ram free to take advantage of. If anyone has a suggestion, feel free to suggest. As for now, I guess I won't find peace until I find this "perfect rom".....anyway, these are my experiences with the phone. Hope I can actually help someone.

I find my story with the SP just like yours, tryied many different roms and mods for this phone, finally the best 4.3 version for my SP I've found was the leaked version from Doomlord (don't know why, I've runed .207, 205, 266 etc, they all was lagging too much after a week or so. About "best rom thing" don't really know if its the best, but with RR[bugfree] 5.0.2, I was having 595mb free on ram at boot, and after a day of usage it stays in 535mb free. Unfortunately the rom itself lacks of a good optimizations, I am no developer not even close to one and I admire a lot what they do since the days with my galaxy i5500. If I have the knowledge I would take a closer look on that rom.

From my personal experience that started in February 2014 (the month I rooted my phone) and ended in June 2015 (the month in which I made the definitive switch to CM based ROMs), and given what you said in the part of your post I quoted, I'd suggest you eXistenZ. Under the hood, it's Android 4.3, but all the userspace features and apps have been ported from Kitkat, and, last but not least, it's rock solid. All the ported apps and things you'll find there are completely stable. Also next month I might bring to new life the stock kernel by modding it a bit so users that decide to go back to stock will have much better performance and RAM management.

If you have free time and you're willing to do this, consider doing it, and you could also retrain good battery life too with this kernel you might make. Also, I'm currently running eXistenZ 4, but do you know if the black version is still based on 12.1.A.0.266 build? As far as I know it's based on that, and 12.1.A.0.266 is the worst build of all the ones that this phone had received.

i started with flashing stock roms , stock roms are stable a lot. when we do a action it completes always in stock. but fastness and performance problem is always there no matter it is custom stock or pure stock.
i have used existenz, neildownx pure xperia and many more.
i still flash some time stock but i get annoyed by bad performance in 2 days , what i love in stock is battery and stableness.
now about custom i used mateoo cm11, bagy all rom, slim i love but except cm11 no one is stable.
i love slim but its not syalltable and problems it has are not acceptable.
cm12 or 13 i actually dont prefer.
used adrian cm13 rro
good but i didnt find it as a daily driver. tgere are some bugs in it.
many times i faced a situation when i am using custom rom and i am with frnds about to take photo and camera not opening at all.
system ui crash, whenever this happen i get very anniyed and flash stock.
i never flashed or used stock 4.1
can any one tell me how it is.
i dont care about frleatures or look. everything can be achievlved by xposed. what i ant it a stable blazing fast dailydriver rom .
currently i love cm11 latest by bagyuse and i live his work

The stock 4.1.2 is dated, BUT: it has superb RAM management (you easily get 400-430 MB of free RAM - it's on par with KitKat and lollipop aosp-based ROMs), it's pretty fast and rock solid of course. If you're interested in great multitasking you can take a look at that. Bear in mind though that being a now dated version of Android some apps might not be compatible with it. Developers are starting to abandon these versions of Android but I suppose you'll be fine about that. If you want to try something different, give it a shot.
i don't know about doomlord leaked rom,, can anyone provide a link?
also currently I am using bagyuse cm11 latest.. smooth bt slow when one or two app I open, battery not best.
more suggestions for roms needed. also we should compare that stock or custom we should use.
I've been using Carbon LP with Helium kernel for a while. It's the best rom I've ever used so far, and the least problematic one. Fast, stable, bugfree. I've used lots of roms but almost every one of them had problems. But after 3 months of usage, carbon is still in a perfect state and it's fast as it's supposed to be. I strongly recommend that one.
i wanted a rom with all xperia features , and got one from a Brazilian .. the rom is fast and stock modified.. works at best level for me
