I received my ChatSim Plus 3-in-1 SIM card direct from Italy late last week. They strongly suggest turning off data access to any app except those that send text. I kept on access to WhatsApp, Skype, Google Hangouts. They say it also works with iMessage, and it does to a degree. If you use iMessage in conjunction with e-mail addresses, you're fine. If you used iMessage with a carrier-assigned phone number, that does not work.
When you insert your ChatSim in an iPhone, iMessage will want to link the ChatSim carrier-assigned number to iMessage. This process fails. The number ChatSim gives you is in Estonia. That shouldn't impede full iMessage functionality, but there's that one glitch.
ChatSim says they will block your SIM if you use it for "abnormal" no texting traffic. Trying to figure out where the boundary is, and given my purchase of the SIM came with €5 (five euros) credit, I decided to run a Speedtest. I'm in the United States. On the "automatic" setting, ChatSim immediately connected to T-Mobile 3G. The Speedtest on T-Mobile came back 390ms ping, 2.87Mbps down, 1.58Mbps up. I switched off "automatic" and forced the SIM onto AT&T. The Speedtest no longer had access to data. I was only able to receive the SMS from the good ChatSim folks telling me I'd been consuming "abnormal" data and I'd been blocked.
When you're blocked you can still send and receive SMS (but not MMS), except if you're on iPhone. In order to unblock/restore data, you have to add €10 to your Private Area. So I did. This was Thursday.
I used ChatSIM exclusively, with extremely limited access to data for apps. I was able to start a Skype audio call, send and receive text and calls in Google Hangouts. Everything was good. I also left on access to some apps that use A-GPS for location services. From Thursday through Monday, everything was good. Today, Tuesday as I'm out and about, I get an SMS from ChatSim warning me of "abnormal" usage. Moments later a second SMS arrived informing me I'd been blocked. Between Thursday evening and Tuesday early afternoon, my data manager app says I used 39MB. Cost of the SIM and shipping aside, $10.50 for 39MB is not a good deal in my opinion.

Yeah it all depends in which zone you are. For zone 1 a 10 Euro ($10.5) gives you 2000 credits, which equates to 40Mb. That's not a lot at all if you're a heavy data user. Luckily I only use Whatsapp when I'm out and about, so I think Chatsim is ideal for me.
The other "catch" with their data packages is that you shouldn't use more than 60% of the data allowance in a single Zone.
The real downside to Chatsim, in order for it to be a feasible solution to using Whatsapp at home and abroad, is that you should have a Dual sim phone. I've got the G3 dual sim, so it's working well so far
In order to cover all areas you need to buy 2 products (Chatsim & Chatsim Plus).
Was mislead by Whatsim pre-order statements on 1 Sim card for all areas..

Yeah, luckily for me the Chatsim Plus covers all the areas I most frequently travel to (Belgium, France, UAE, UK, USA, South Africa)

It's saying I exceeding 60% of data traffic in same zone. What does that mean?
I can not use this SIM card anymore or I need pay more Credit? So confused!!!

Just got my ChatSim Plus today. Immediately threw it into an unlocked iPhone 5. The SMS feature won't send, but I can receive. Grabbed WhatsApp, FB Messenger, KIK, Twitter, and Google Hangouts from the App Store just to give them all a shot. WhatsApp and Hangouts seem to work the best.
I did notice that after few minutes the network would drop. I seemed to have to throw the device into airplane mode and back out to get back to normal operations.
YouTube review
Found this review, seems to have pros and cons to it. More cons if you aren't careful with it (you must disable background app data) as you can easily burn through the data cap with Twitter.
Terrible service, chatsim a scam
I purchased my Chatsim Plus in March this year and till June I have yet to receive the card. I emailed the staff and on many occasions they said they would reply within 48 hours but they don't -- which was fine by me. But the thing is, they always avoided giving me a straight answer and kept telling me to wait... I mean, how long does it take for a card to be sent out? Early July I couldn't wait any further because it was simply taking too long. By then I have sent out countless of emails which no one ever replies and when they eventually did they told me that the card was sent back to them as I did not provide my full address. I checked against the soft copy receipt and told them that the address was correct yet they found ways to blame me (literally!) for the failed delivery. At that point I was exasperated and just wanted my money back. Initially I paid €20 for the card and delivery however 2 months later when I checked my bank statement only €10 was refunded. When I asked the staff why I wasn't given a full refund ONCE AGAIN they told me it was their law and that the mailing company operates independently and the fees goes to the mailing company yada and I quote their response "You haven't provided us with the complete address either, because the mailing services weren't able to find your address"... I mean what is this utter nonsense? I cannot emphasis how indignant I am about this because I gave the address as stated in my PASSPORT and how on earth is that INCOMPLETE? I can only say please use Chatsim at your own risk, because after reading some of the reviews online I found out that I am not the only victim that has fallen to their antics! The staff is rude, incompetent and unprofessional! Nasty experience!
No you're not the only one... it happened to me too!!!:crying:
Very disappointing product. I think it is a scam.
The Chatsim works only intermittently. Response for help is super slow. By the time they reply, I was back to home.
In one month usage, got 2 emails saying I am using too much. And suddenly one day, the card was stopped and ask me to pay again.
Don't waste your money.
Hi, I bought chatsim couple of weeks ago and is successfully activated. Today I was in overseas and wanted to use it, but I couldn't do it.
I was looking on the internet and found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zG8KKaH9B8 in the minute 6:06 they talk about add another user (WITH YOUR CHATSIM PHONE NUMBER) in order to use chatsim. Here is my question:
I have a dualsim phone (Letv X800) and have on mu dutch number whatsapp running. In order to use chatsim (phone number +44number) I need to create/activate it within whatsapp, right? Do you have any idea how to do it without using the method mentioned on the video?
Thanx
For me, chatsim seems like a scam. For one, most of the time it hasn't work... I would receive mms randomly when the network decided to get picked up. Sure enough, I received a sms not too long after telling me that I have exceeded usage. And I was blocked. When I confronted customer service, they said I probably didn't turn off background updates... Which is untrue since I was running in low battery mode at all times (which stops all background activities in an iPhone). Long story short, my travelling hasn't been affected with or without chat sim. Not gonna fool me twice in putting more money into it.
I just started with Chatsim Unlimited on a Nexus 5X. I think I have it setup correctly and I've successfully tested the service using Facebook Messenger. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with Google Hangouts though - very disappointing considering that is the primary messaging app that I use.
Another aspect of the service that I'm very disappointed with is the English language verbiage. It's very confusing as if all of the instructional text came out of a translator app.
I just got my chatsim (unlimited) and have followed all instructions found in the website. My problem is that I can see the carrier operator ("Smart" for Philippines) as well as the "3g" indicating my Cellular data but I still cannot connect to any of the messaging applications offered by chatsim. Anyone having this problem or anyone know how to resolve this problem? I have been contacting chatsim but no response was made by them. Any help would be gladly appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I have seen this video already and have followed the instructions for the APN settings. I placed "chatsim" on APN and it still won't connect to any messaging app. Thanks!
Does it have any affect if I wasn't able to "Update Carrier Settings"? Yes, I clicked the "Not now" option instead of the "Update Carrier Settings".

Situation:
I am w/ an HD, on T-Mobile, in the US.
I have the $9.99 / month 100 mb data plan (cuz I have wifi about 85% of the time).
I have unlimited messaging (of all kinds) on my plan.
I can connect to edge and browse on it just fine.
Another person on my family plan has working mms no problem.
I put in a friends SIM and it worked straight away, he used mine and it wouldn't work.
I have already tried getting my SIM card replaced.
already tried two cabs from these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394735
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395203
Problem:
NO MMS. I really can't figure it out. It seems that no matter what I do, it just never works. Sending gets to 99% (w/ the little icon at the top), but it never ends up going through.
When someone sends me a message...I just don't ever get any notification at all.
I have tried stock roms, cooked roms, I make sure to set my carrier to T-Mobile US, I have checked the internet as well as called CC for the server settings, and even just had my SIM replaced today...still no luck.
Anything welcome,
Thanks,
Jim.
Hi, I use Touch HD with T-Mobile, my sim accoubt is 'pay as you go' prepaid , I dont have data as my account has only MMS and it works great without any problems, after flashing my device with Dutty 1.7 the automitic configuration settings configured my phone but MMS didn't work and after checking the settings I discovered that the proxy is missing on the MMS access point setting and entering it, MMS worked again like charm.
Buy the way i am new here in US and when I go to T-mobile and ask about data plan they give me a Verizon prosure with alot of data plans and the cheapest is 39 $ !!! please let me know the details of your plan and what should I tell them when I go there in order to get the same 9 $ plan you have.
Thanks for the help

I am on that same 9.99 plan and use Edge all the time. Have you ever checked your data usage? If you call don't give the secret away!

WOW what a lucky man you are!!
I will try right now! Could you please share with us what state you're in, the rom and radio you are on, and any other details?
Also...what proxy are you guys using? I have read that it needs to be DISabled...so that's what I have it to.
Thanks,

EDIT: WOAH!! Just called and checked my data usage and they said I hadn't used any!!!!!!!!!! Billed or unbilled. THATS INSANE! Lol
I have only had a data plan for about 4 days, and only been using it for about 3 but....still. I would think it would take only 2 business days maximum to show up. Maybe I don't wanna get my phone fixed... lol I'd rather have unlimited data than limited data and mms. I know all the carrier extensions, I'll just email them maybe...
But I guess I am still going to go to the store and have them check out the mms

When you go to T-Mobile they give you a VERIZON brochure?
But, you just tell them that you have a regular flip phone or something (don't tell them you have a smart phone) and tell them that you want to sign up for the 100mb / month web2go internet plan. It is $9.99 / month. You can also do it over the internet (that's how I did it).
Thanks guys!
I REALLLY hope I can keep getting unlimited data for $10! (especially considering that T-Mobile's data is the slowest of all the carriers..)
Jim
I just called them and they said that for the past 3 months I've used no data, however the guy told me that $20 is the lowest plan.....? (I let it slip i have a smart phone, and he said that's the lowest for smart phones) So should I call back and tell them I have an old flip phone piece of garbage (for which they have a $10 plan) and will it still work no problem? (I'm gonna try it, but a 'yes' or 'no' would help)
Thanks, looking forward to saving my $10 a month

The easiest way is to just log on to their site, change your phone to a razr or something, then add the web2go for $9.99 / month. Easy as that! That's what I did.
STILL NO MMS FOR ME THOUGH! UGH

HAHA, yes, when I called, I too was very selective about my choice of words. But I'm gonna try and change the data plan later today through site as planned and sugested above (great minds....). I'll let you know if it works for me and if afterwords I can still send MMS since maybe it's the $10 plan that causes the problem.

Thanks jim, so I was in the right place, you just can't have the Razor selected as you phone. Apparently different phones have different packages. It took me like 6 tries before I got a phone that let me change my internet, while all the others only let me add the hotspots (I almost gave up). I finally choose the Sony Ericsson TM506 - Emerald which let me change the data plan and besides the 100mb for $10, it also had a 50mb with 200 texts for $10 (which is obviously the better choice, unless you need more than 200 texts).
So in the end, I swapped from $20 for unlimited data + $5 for 400texts to $10 for 200 texts with 50mb(unlimited on HD).....not a bad deal.
again, thanks for the help jim

Oh dang sorry. I so almost told you what phone I had selected but didn't bother.
I too saw the $10 for 200 txts and 50 mb, but since I already have unlimited messaging...the 100mb was obviously of course the better deal for me.
Glad you got it working!
I'm gonna call again right now and chk my data usage just in case...used a ton over the past 2 days or so :S
Jim
EDIT: They said that for the first month, they are unable to track / check your usage. Keep in mind! After that, you can check update anytime anyday. But up until it has been on there for one full month / billing cycle, they can't tell you how much you have used!!
They did say though that they will start over my 100mb on the 13th because they were unable to check how much I have used, and if I go ever between now and then they will credit it all back so that is awesome.
I've had the HD for about 3months now (with the Data Plan) and when I called and checked, they said 0mb used each month (which is, of course, wrong, but great) so I'm hoping that it will remain that way, but just to be sure I'll make calls to check.

I would definitely recommend ditching that.
OK. Update.
Called up support again, wanted to add to my "trouble ticket" that I had submitted that my tmomail.net account wasn't working at all. I couldn't even email plain text to my tmomail.net address. Also wanted to update them with the fact that when some carriers send me a pic msg, they get a reply back saying that I rejected it.
The result was that I was finally transferred all the way up to 'advanced'. This is supposedly the highest. I had already spoken w/ tier 1, tier 2, and tier3 before, and once transferred to advanced I had everything fixed within about 20 minutes!
Thanks,
Jim.

What errors are you encountering over EDGE with email?
We just got the Xoom from Verizon a few days ago and it's the only device that we have with Verizon. Apparently the password reset for the Verizon online account can only send a text message to the device. There's no email option online or when calling customer service. A temporary password will have to be mailed instead.
That's what the site says, but it's been 12 days and I never got a letter, but my account did get charged for 2 text messages. And Verizon customer support is a bunch of idiots that just repeat over and over that I should have gotten the letter in 3 to 5 business days. Only letter I got is the billing statement.
Did you call customer service to initiate a letter to be sent and now 12 days later there's nothing?
i called customer service and had them transfer my service to one of there test devices that could get text messages. once he did that i gave him the password i wanted and he set it all up for me. took about 20 min but it worked.

sounds like AT&T . I'll give it a week or so and then call back and try what g2theno posted.
Do what I did.
I went into the verizon store to complain about it (I didn't know about the mail option). They called the customer service people in front of me and had them give them the passord while I sat on my Xoom and logged in. It took about fifteen minutes and I was able to change my password before I walked out Verizon's store.
I bought the 800$ Xoom so I actually went in to verizon to start my service. The guy there who acted like he knew everything told me I was going to get a text. When I told him I for sure wasn't going to get one because this isn't a phone he for sure guarenteed me that since it was a free text from verizon I would receive, he was being so certain of himself I put my logic away an left.
So when I went back the next day he end up looking really stupid. He was even trying to tell me that if I sign up for unlimited data now I was guarenteed it for life. And I politely told him that I would be guarenteed it for the duration of the two year contract but he wouldn't listen to me and kept insisting "We (verizon) wouldn't take the data plan from you at the end of your contract" . Can anyone verify this for me? I'm pretty much certain that you only get it for the contract even if you sign up for another at the end of it.

YMMV, 'cause I tried this at two VZ stores and got nowhere. Maybe since I tried this on the 25th and 26th that by now they've got a workaround in CS, but I had to wait for my letter to show up.
I wonder what they're going to do when the iPad 2 comes to VZ; those can't get texts either, and if they've suddenly worked up a fix for those guys and not us I'm going to hate VZ just a little more.
He was even trying to tell me that if I sign up for unlimited data

Um, what "unlimited" data plan is that? AFAIC, VZ has no such plan for non-phone devices.

Did the same and about 15 minutes later I was all set. The problem I now have is the Verizon app won't connect with the new password. Only works on 3G. I can still log in on the website though. The rep I worked with was very nice and said she would submit a ticket on the app. Apparently I wasn't the first Xoom owner to have this issue.
got the letter, password did not work. went to a verizon store, one rep said the xoom gets text msgs. Once he realized he was wrong, another rep called customer service...waited on hold for 15-20 min and they just opened a problem ticket, i.e. "i have no clue what to do let's hand it off to someone else". I offered the test device option but neither rep knew the ph# of one of the test devices. I'll call customer service again tomorrow....yay.
When I first requested my temp password I was told to wait for a mail in the mailbox. So I kept going back the online account. I retry to send the mail and still nothing in the mailbox after three weeks. So I called then up again and was told not to resend the reset password online. He resent the reset passwords and told me to wait for it again in the mail with in a week. Surely within there four days I got pain old envelope in the mail with verizon logo. It had my password. So the lesson is, only reset your password once.

Verizon doesn't drop plans when your contract is up. However, they will weasel you out of your plan when you do upgrades or changes. At least this has been my experience.
Though, the Xoom doesn't have an unlimited plan that I'm aware of so the point is moot.
I just cancelled my contract with Verizon and returned the Xoom (and have the Wifi one coming next week). I must have spend 2+ hours on the phone with them over the past 2 weeks. They sent me two passwords in the mail, both did not work. And they kept trying to send me text messaging. The Xoom was great, but VZ just pissed me off with the lack of planning for this device. If I am spending that amount of money, I want to be able to see data usage on line.
WiFi here I come!
I called and was told to wait for a snail mail for my password. I got it in 3 days. Set up my account and changed my password. Ymmv I guess. No text charges incurred.

I did it over the phone.. took 20 minutes to do though. She changed the plan for my Xoom to voice service, put a dummy esn on my cell (which is on a different account, in a different name.. but I'm an authorized user for that acc.) I then activated the Xoom number on my cell, went online did a password reset. Got it on my cell, setup my password, she then changed my Xoom acc back to a tablet plan and noted the acc just in case I somehow get billed incorrectly, but I won't since it was within a 24 hour window (20 minutes really) then she set my cell esn back to my cell number. It was a hassle, but well worth it, because I found out they entered my address into their system wrong haha. Did this all over a landline, even used my tablet tog o online and do a password reset, which is odd since my tablet shouldn't have been activated since my cell was using the same number :/

You got a very competent CSR! I don't have Verizon for my phone so that's not an option. Even if I did there's so many things that could go wrong with that process, yikes.
Is there any updated resolution on this? Last month I spent around 2 hours talking to 4+ CSRs, nobody could help me change my password. They kept telling me to just reset online and wait for it in the mail. I did that originally and the password they sent me didn't work (guessing that I must have reset it again before I got it in the mail). Eventually they comped me a free month and told me to reset it once more online, wait in the mail, guarantee it will work... Well here I am 3 weeks later and I've gotten nothing in the mail.
I'm really dreading another 2 hour phone call with Verizon... is there an easier way? I suggested switching my # to one of their test devices w/ each of 4 CSRs and all of them said that was impossible.
The mail in password DOES work, you just have to be patient . Once you call Verizon to mail a password, make note of the date of when you placed the call. You should get a letter up to a week later with the temporary password. Be sure the date on the letter is the day of or 1-2 days after you placed the call.
The temporary passwords wipe out each other, meaning only the latest generated password will work. I kept resetting myself by calling Verizon to send a letter, using an old temporary password, locking the account after too many attempts, which requires another temporary password to be sent etc etc.

... so last week I went over to the VZ forums iPad2 section to see just how VZ handled this for iPad users?
Yup, just as I'd suspected, they gave them an applet for using in settings that lets them automatically manage their accounts from the get-go. No such love (and it wouldn't have been that hard to implement!) for us Xoom folks.
If you root your Xoom and go into the development forum, replace your framework then you'll be able to receive texts on your Xoom, that's the quickest way to reset your account password.
Really, I have never had a harder time setting up an on-line account with any technology vendor for the simple purpose of paying a bill.
This is primarily rooted around Verizon's insistance on sending text messages for any activity to a device that does not accept them.
After two requests still awaiting for that snail mail that gives me a pin number so I can actually register on-line.
And all I see is grief in the future, whenever you want to do something, Verizon insists on sending a text. Sheesh.

What the tech did for me, was activate a test phone on the account, then have the text message sent to that phone.
Once I used that temporary password to set up the online account, he took the test phone off the account.
I had them waive my activation fee for my troubles, but that was back when they weren't automatically waiving them anyway.

same issue.. dumb setup.. you would think they would have another way , not to mention, what they need to do is when you setup your tablet, they give you a pin in the box or set it up with a backup phone number.
there is a million ways to do it., its dumb that they forgot this setup
but then, I am still curious why they do not set these DATA only setups to NOT have pohone numbers. we all know that the US is running out of numbers, what is the use of the number?! Give me an account number, or hell, just a IP address or something that does not waste a phone number that I cant use.

This is a phone wireless provider. Initially the data was setup for a means of phones getting data. So built on top of that principal in order to communicate with the Verizon NOC your unique identifier is actually your phone number, thats how their system evolved and it would be silly to rewrite their entire setup so tablets, a small percentage of their devies on their network, don't have to have a unique number that isn't a phone number.

Last time I checked the moto xoom was not a phone. We have stores for people that cant handle the internet.
The text message feature is provisioned onto any and all devices, including aircards, its just the way the system was programmed pre-tablet'age.
Bunch of crap, I am currently waiting for my third PIN number to arrive by mail as the last two didnt work, I even called them and had THEM do it to make sure I wasnt screwing something up. I really wish I was inside of my 14day window or Id take it back and get the wifi and tether to my EVO and be done with it.

it might not make calls, but it is a device, I understand what he's talking about
but, lets face it, with the decent amount of tablets coming out, data cards, and other hardware and devices, getting rid of the number system might be advantagious in the near future.. but then, I actualy would not mind this thing having a number to text me too. but then with the costs, no way!

Don't be a dork. This has to do with setting up a Verizon account on the internet, not with any one persons skill in using the internet. During the process there is a step "we will now text you your PIN", which you need the pin in order to complete the setup so you have access to your account on-line.
This is where Verizon drops the ball. After looking through the "I didn't / cannot get a text", a reference is made that it will be snail mailed to you if you do not complete the registration in 24 hours.
Apparently 24 hours actually means two weeks, which is how long it took me to get the PIN, which arrived today after my original posting, which of course happened after I have called them again and they have generated a new one which will probably take two more weeks, and this one is presumably invalid.

A company is not defined by how they handle routine matters, but by how they handle exceptions.
It should not require rewriting the entire setup, the process should be smart enough to know when a device is not text capable, and provide an alternative flow... like maybe an e-mail?

That is a good tech who knows a work around. Unfortunately I waited a day or two before trying to set up my access to my on-line acount.
Hate VZW? In a word: Sprint. I bought mine a week ago. After getting confirmation of the sprint version, this one is boxed up and being returned. Can you find anyone willing to purchase your Xoom and transfer it over to another guy?
you could also go the Mifi way.
Virgin has a great deal. 10 days and 100mb for $10, or unlimited for a month for for $40 and no contracts, no nothing!
I still have the 20$ Verizon plan for now, just for the convenence, and since I use mostly Wifi, I can either use that, or call them up for one month to give me a GB of bandwitch.
but , no matter how i look at it, I think Verizon and Sprint, and T-Mo AND AT&T prices are CRAZy, exp if you dont use it all that much.
As sad as this may sound, I found that there is no speed difference between Verizon 3G and using my Nexus S wifi hotpot. So was kinda regretting getting the 3G version.
It took me about five minutes to do it in person
Yesterday I bought a $50 starter pack from Verizon prepaid to get a sim card because my last phone didn't use a Sim. So I go to the store to get help activating it. They told me that I'd need to call cs because they didn't provide support for prepaid. So I called & everything went well until the tech had me to restart the phone & try o make a call. All I got was a notice to reboot my phone because there was an error. So the cs guy transferred me to tech support where I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with a lady that wasn't able to get the phone working. She kept telling me the phone wasnt in the system, even though the 1st guy added it with no problem. She then wrote up a ticket to escalate the issue to an advanced department & says they should figure something out in 48hrs. In the meantime I asked if I whould be credited these 3 days that I paid for & won't actually have service, answer: no. Smh.
Additional info my phone now shows the Verizon network & level of service in status bar. However it sometimes says no sim, emergency calls only.
If anyone has any suggestions at all as to what I can do or say to them to get this fixed it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Did you try to do it online ? The website will see the imei number and should let you add it.

I tried doing it online first & when that didn't work I called. I've still not heard anything from the uber tech ppl @ Verizon. The lady I spoke with didn't give me the ticket #, blue I'm wondering if it was actually submitted.
This may or may not help, but I had a time trying to get my XPE activated on VZW last week. I tried to activate it online, on the phone with Verizon, at a Verizon store and finally at Best Buy. The only reason the Best Buy guy helped me is that he and his roommate had recently bought one so he knew it would work.
I think in the end what it was is that the I and others were putting in the IMEI instead of the MEID. The IMEI is one digit longer and you need to use the shorter number. The guy at Best Buy said something to that effect in passing, but I did not follow up with him on it. Try using the MEID by going to About Phone->Status->IMEI Info and using the MEID for activating.
Another thing to note - if you get the MEID by typing in *#06# into the dialer keypad, it brings up the longer number, even though it says it is the MEID, it is really showing you the IMEI. Hopefully this helps someone.
I'm glad to hear you were able to get yours activated! Trying the MEID is a good suggestion, but it didn't work. That's the # requested when you try to activate online. I'm going to spend a few hours on the phone with tech support today & see if they have figured out a solution.
Maybe try calling back at a different time. I was SO reluctant to buy this phone only because I KNEW I’d end up having to call Verizon and deal with the support line. Amazingly, the first lady I talked to knew exactly what phone I was using and got it working in seconds. I'm on unlimited & she did her due diligence in trying to convert me to a different plan (unsuccessfully).
My connection and speed has been miserable at best though… My APN settings were on global, I switched it to CMDA 2 days ago, the connection has gotten faster/better. It's still unreliable though, I don't think I live in an area THAT saturated with Verizon customers... still trying to find a solution for constant/good connection/speeds. I’m not doing anything that would put me in the throttled group either… just slow-garbage connection. Not completely happy with the phone yet. *Completely stock.
Edit: By "I" I mean, "My wife's". This phone was my attempt to convert her from Apple and this situation isn't helping at all.
The trick is to activate the sim card, then put it in the MXP. If you can borrow someone's Verizon phone (i.e. They put their sim in your MXP to free their phone) then you should have no problem getting Verizon to activate a free and clear Verizon phone. Once activated just swap sims back.
I buy/sell/trade phones all the time (had my sim in 3 today). The only time I've had an issue activating on Verizon is when I messed up my sim and only had a Sprint/unlocked Nexus 6 to use at the moment. It took me hours to get a tech to activate. Finally he pulled up an old IMEI from my account and used that phone to activate my sim.

I had trouble activating on prepaid aswell a store was nice enough to give me a sim card and I called and it took 2 representatives to activate and an old galaxy s3 meid I had laying around for some reason.

Verizon can't legally throttle you based on your unlimited data and/or monthly usage. They can and will, however, throttle you if you're in a congested area. Every time we go to sporting events, shows, or any type of big event where hundreds of phones are pinging the same tower my service crawls. At my home (in the country) I don't even use WiFi because my phone runs circles around my 60 MBPS Charter WiFi (which rarely/never sees 60 MBPS).
Do you live in the city, an apartment, anywhere that's congested?
Also, in case you weren't aware your bill will be going up $20 per line for every unlimited line not currently under contract. The cut off to get under contract was 11/15 so my 2 lines will cost me an extra $40 on my next billing cycle.
EDIT - Not sure of the legality of them throttling unlimited users but Verizon did try to implement that. They caught so much flak from users and the FCC, they opted to increase monthly charges and only throttle the top 1% of data users on any given tower during periods of heavy use.

Had the same exact problem last weekend. Tried to do it online...wouldn't work. Went into the Verizon store and they couldn't do it either. They activated the sim in another phone, set up the account, then moved the sim to my phone and then ported my phone number over. Took almost two hours to get onto a prepaid plan.
This is only a problem if it's a new account/sim card. If you are pulling a sim from a previous phone, it goes smoothly.

First of all the Pure may not work for pre-paid but it definitely works for post paid. However if you have it working then OK. As for your other issue try changing Settings > under Wireless & networks choose "More" > Cellular networks > Preferred network type > choose LTE/CDMA.
I used to leave mine on Global all the time until a few weeks ago I started getting a message similar if not the same as yours. Everything still worked OK but the error message would not go away no matter what I did...until I stopped using Global. Now I have not tested it recently to see if Global would work again but from reading about the Global setting it is really for when you are "global" that is, out of the country and roaming for a signal that can be used. While here in the USA as long as you have a decent signal for LTE/CDMA then no need for the phone to even try to connect. It should just do so automatically. Give it a try and report back.
Greetings,
Although there are already a few threads here on XDA about the experiences and difficulties of getting a Oneplus 6T fully functional on Verizon Wireless, the reason for creating THIS thread is the lack of information currently out there for Verizon Wireless PREPAID customers.
To sum up, simply popping a Verizon SIM into a 6T will often yield a phone that cannot receive SMS/MMS messages, despite the OnePlus 6T being Verizon- certified. There are a few ways to fix this, such as getting a savvy Verizon Tier2 customer service rep to enable or provision CDMA_Less on your account for that SIM.
What is currently not clear is whether such methods apply to Verizon PREPAID customers, who appear to be afterthoughts to Verizon customer care from my reading of many nightmare experience posted online.
This thread is for people who want to use the OnePlus 6T with Verizon Prepaid. To help others who are in the same Big Red boat, please post your experiences -- what worked, what didn't, etc.
The following links are for reference on this circumstance:
https://www.reddit.com/r/verizon/comments/9uizn1/oneplus_6t_activation_help_employees_help/
https://www.reddit.com/r/verizon/comments/9ur5mj/help_verizon_prepaid_oneplus_6t/
The process overall was a bit more difficult than Postpaid as I was told by the store rep that they had the option to enable CDMA-less on their end whereas with Prepaid it had to be done either via chat or through phone. Chat did not go anywhere for me.
Was chatting with the Verizon rep for 1+ hours and she tried to turn ON the CDMA-less feature which she did, but did not turn ON the HD-Voice. This made my calls not to go through but texts were working.
Went to the store and put in a brand new Verizon Prepaid SIM card, and was back to the same issue. No texts, only calls.
Called Verizon prepaid customer care and finally one knowledgable rep, tried and resolved the issue for me. He worked with me for about an hour. As per him, he did exactly what the chat rep did, except that he turned ON both the CDMA-less and HD-Voice feature. Also, since it kept showing both the SIM and the device were incompatible, he tried to associate the SIM/IMEI to a dummy and then turned ON CDMA-less + HD-Voice and then associated the actual SIM with the actual device IMEI. Throughout this whole process I had another phone with active line and the rep was on this line.
All in all, not a good experience. I'd think a device manufacturer would ensure such basic functionality of texting and calling would work perfectly fine with approved networks before shipping out the device. I guess not. Other than this issue, I'm happy with the device so far.

Thanks for taking the time to post this....
Your experience in successfully activating Verizon Prepaid seems to correspond with one of the experiences linked in the OP wherein:
- The OP 6T IMEI was found "not compatible".
- Verizon Prepaid Care could NOT add the IMEI directly (unlike regular, postpaid Verizon care which could contact Engineering, sometimes 2-4 days, but sometimes immediately).
HERE'S THE ESSENTIAL WORKAROUND:
- The requirement of ANOTHER device (like a Pixel) IMEI that could be provisioned with CDMA_Less and HD-Voice. Once these features were successfully turned on for thisSIM
- The SIM could be added/associated with the OP 6T IMEI and then everything worked on Verizon Prepaid.
Out of curiosity, would you mind specifying the color, RAM, and storage capacity of your 6T? (It appears that different models of the 6T show up in Verizon's IMEI database)

No worries. Midnight Black/8GB/128gb. MyVerizon app shows it as 8/256GB version and I did ask Verizon Rep to change it and he said he will try, but was happy that he got the texting working for me. So I left it there.

I have a Nexus 6P that I am upgrading. Could they add the CDMA less and HD voice to it and then I can just swap the SIMs and activate the OP6T?

I would absolutely try that!
I'm about to try the same thing with an even older Nexus 6.
So If I were in your position, this is what I would do:
Once you have your Oneplus 6T in hand, ask Verizon Care to turn on CDMA-less and HD-Voice. You might have to walk into a corporate Verizon store or keep calling Care until you get someone knowledgeable. (I wouldn't do it before having the 6T in hand because it may be screw up service on your Nexus)
Or you try and do it yourself -- assuming as a Prepaid customer you have the same access to your account online that a Postpaid/regular Verizon customer does, per
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/help/verizon-to-to-sms-t3863352/post78089729
Note: nothing mentioned about HD-Voice, which may be on by default for Postpaid customers.
Once CDMA-less and HD-Voice are turned on, then switch out the SIM to your 6T. If it works fully (calls, data, send AND receive text), great!
If it doesn't work fully, then call Verizon Care again to associate the SIM with your 6T IMEI.
Hope it works out for you, and let us know...

Shouldn't need a support group, right?
But my experience with Verizon is that Prepaid customers are treated like unwanted stepchildren.
So support group it is.

Unfortunately, right or wrong (definitely wrong) that's life w/pre-paid service:
1st to feel the effects of network prioritization & little to no meaningful customer care.

You don't. The online options are different. There's a "Change Device" option but if you try to switch online, you get an error message about an incompatibility between SIM and phone. You can switch using the automated prepaid customer support line but the texting problem occurs. Between the agents at the prepaid customer support calling center and online customer support chat, I have spent over five hours in the last 2 days trying to get it to work. I've explained that both CDMA_LESS and HDVOICE calling features need to be enabled. Either they fixed incoming SMS and ruined voice calling or reenabled voice calls but ruined incoming SMS.
I switched back to my old phone and SIM. Since my old phone is a Samsung S5 that takes a micro-SIM, I will try looking for the extra plastic I disposed of around the nano-SIM to make it a micro-SIM, re-enable the new SIM in the old phone, transfer the new SIM to Oneplus and see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the information, please let us know if your S5 (another device) workaround does the trick...
Good luck!

Nope. I'm done with Verizon. Switching in the next few days.
Verizon: Thank you for contacting the Verizon Wireless Chat Team. To better assist you please enter your question below.
You: Activate device
Verizon: All Chat reps are currently helping other customers. You'll be connected as soon as possible.
Marcus: Hi there! This is Marcus here, gladly chatting with you
Marcus: Thank you for contacting Verizon Prepaid Wireless Care!
Marcus: You reached the right person to help with the activation. I know how important this can be for you.
Marcus: Could you please confirm the phone number we are working on?
You: ***-***-****
You: Over the last 3 days I've talked to Verizon reps to get my Oneplus 6T to work with voice and incoming text messages. The only thing to try is to switch a new sim to my Samsung S5, enable CDMA_ROAM and HDVOICE, and then move the SIM to my Oneplus 6T.
Marcus: I see.
Marcus: Don't you worry, you reached the right person to check on the device and help getting it activated. I know how important this can be for you.
Marcus: For security purposes, would you please verify Account Security Code on file?
You: ****
Marcus: Thank you very much.
Marcus: May I please have the device ID (IMEI) and the SIM card number (ICCID) from the phone you would like activated. The IMEI and ICCID numbers can be found on the phone under Settings > About > Status.
Marcus: Nice phone by the way.
Marcus: I'm sorry. I haven't heard from you.
You: The IMEI of the Samsung is **************. SIM # is *****************.
Marcus: Thank you for that information.
Marcus: Just to confirm, you want to activate the 1+ 6T or the Samsung?
You: I want to activate the Samsung S5 with CDMA_LESS and HDVOICE features added. Then I want to move the SIM to the Oneplus 6T and see if Voice and SMS works.
Marcus: In this case, would it be better to provide me with the Oneplus 6T IMEI to add it on the account and confirm how the activation goes instead?
You: I have done that at least 8 times in the last 3 days, so no. First the S5.
Marcus: At your command.
Marcus: On it now.
Marcus: In the meantime, how is everything going today?
You: Ok.
Marcus: Glad to know that.
Marcus: You can turn the Samsung off and back on to activate it with the new sim card.
You: OK. Give me 2 minutes.
Marcus: Sure.
Marcus: I'm still with you.
You: It worked in my S%. Moved the sim to my OnePlus. Voice works but incoming sms still doesn't. I can give you my OnePlus IMEI if you want but I have no luck.
Marcus: Sure, in the meantime, you can go to settings, to do a reset network settings.
Marcus: For previous android version this is found under backup and reset. For recent ones it's under general management, then click on reset.
You: I don't see it. I'm using Android version 9 I believe.
Marcus: Bear with me a moment, please.
Marcus: When you go to settings, what is the first option you see.
You: I've restored default APN settings. I don't know if thats the same thing.
Marcus: Is it Connection or Air plane mode?
You: ok. Ive turned Air Plane mode off and on.
Marcus: I wanted to know what the first option is.
Marcus:
Marcus: Could you please confirm what the first option you see when you open your Oneplus 6T is?
Marcus: For me know to have a better idea.
You: Wi-Fi & internet
Marcus: Please scroll down and let me know if you see backup & reset.
You: No. There is a Backup option under the "Google" setting but no backup & reset setting.
Marcus: Please go back to settings, then let me know if you see an option named general management.
You: no.
Marcus: When you scroll down to the bottom, what is the last option do you see?
You: Why don't you call the Verizon contract customer service agents to help you since this is a known easily fixed issue with Onepus 6T that prepaid agents are still struggling with? The last option is "About phone".
Marcus: In my department I can only chat, besides we don't have this phone on our system yet. In other words, even though you would call over the phone, you would still be our eyes.
Marcus: Please bear with till we figure this out.
Marcus: Could you please turn the phone off then turn it back on?
You: OK. Voice still works, incoming messages still don't.
Marcus: Now, let's go back to settings and confirm the first 4 options you see.
Marcus: Before you tap on any other button*
You: "Wi-Fi & internet", "Bluetooth & device connection", "Display", "Apps & notifications"
Marcus: Thank you for that information.
Marcus: Allow me to provide you with a link that may have the instructions on how to do a reset network setting on the phone
Marcus: By the way, would that be ok doing a factory reset as well?
You: Sure.
Marcus: Great!
Marcus: Please Click Here to check on the reset.
Marcus: Please let me know if it was helpful.
You: That didn't help but I searched for the option "reset" on the phone and found "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & bluetooth". I reset.
Marcus: Wonderful!
Marcus: That's the one.
Marcus: You can and and follow the prompts.
Marcus: Is there another one that says reset settings as well?
You: "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile $ bluetooth" , "Reset app preferences" and "Erase-all preferences"
You: Erase all data I mean
Marcus: Let's just erase all to do the factory reset. Is there anything on the phone that you didn't want to lose?
You: No. It's new.
You: OK. Erasing everything.
Marcus: Perfect!
Marcus: I really appreciate your time and patience working on it.
Marcus: You can setup the language and country, then you google account. After that select, set as new.
Marcus: The other options will be optional and will allow you to skip or do later.
You: OK. Dame problem. I have voice and data but no incoming messages. I know that the voice needs to connect through CDMA LTE with HDVOICE and the SMS messaging needs CDMA_LESS provisioning and can't go through CDMA. If that's set up and it doesn't work then there is nothing that can be done and I'll have to leave Verizon.
You: *Same
Marcus: What application do you use to send and receive texts?
Marcus: We will try different options.
You: Basic android messaging. Because your asking me that, it shows that you're not familiar with the issue specific to the device. It is a provisioning problem on your end.
Marcus: What happens is that there is many apps you can use to texts and one of them is our messaging app named message+.
Marcus: I'm confident that every is good on our end and will do everything possible to help you get a resolution. Could you please go to play store, download message+ and try to send a text again?
You: I have a phone that is certified to work with Verizon. It is new. It is unlocked and not carrier branded. I don't want Message+. I bought this phone so I could avoid your branded apps.
Marcus: And I respect that, I believe that is your phone and you have the right to do what you would like on it.
You: I'm confident that everything is not good on your end. I'm confident because of how many users with contract have this issue fixed and how many with prepaid don't.
Marcus: However, I would like to make check all the possible option to help you send and receive text. Another good option is to install facebook messenger on your phone and set it as your default message app like the regular message app the phone came with. Is that better for you?
You: Messenger+ is designed to use wifi when available so I don't want that. I want incoming sms fixed. Not a bandaid.
Marcus: How you feel right now is totally understandable, I understand that you may have had a negative interaction with one of our agents that could create this feeling. Right now, I'm focus on getting a resolution to help you. The facebook messenger can be used without Wi-Fi when you set it up as default messaging app.
You: Is it that you don't understand that the Facebook messenger app, like messenger+, uses wifi when available? I don't want that.
Marcus: I have use them myself just a few weeks ago.
Marcus: Used*
Marcus: It happens sometimes that the regular message app the phone came with experience some difficulties to work, trying a different message app can be helpful in that sense. There is more than 10 messaging apps on play store that you can use, like hangouts or tango.
You: Installing google messenger now, instead of Oneplus stock.
Marcus: You meant Facebook messenger?
You: I'm not installing anything from Facebook. Switched sms to the new app. Nothing.
Marcus: What error did you get when you try to send the text?
You: No error. Outgoin works. When someone tries to send to me they also get no error but I don't get the message.
Marcus: I sent 2 texts to your number did you get them?
You: No. I've been sending to myself but no messages. When an agent enables CDMA_LESS and it works, I suddenly get all messages but then voice doesn't work.
Marcus: Do you get the same issue when you use the Samsung phone?
You: No. This is my problem https://www.droid-life.com/2018/11/06/oneplus-6t-verizon-sms-issues/ https://www.androidauthority.com/verizon-oneplus-6t-how-to-922365/ . All solutions seem to work for contract customers but not prepaid customers.
Marcus: I see.
Marcus: This can be because prepaid and regular plans (postpaid) works on a different network. When a phone is just recently released it is available for our regular plans first then the prepaid version is built.
Marcus: As you can see I'm the 4th agent to work on this with you and the issue still persist while you don't have the same with the samsung phone.
Marcus: It's the phone that is not yet compatible with our prepaid network.
You: Thank you for your time. I'm receiving a SIM card from Unreal Mobile for $10 a month in the next few days. Until then I'll have to put the sim in my Samsung and leave Verizon in a few days.
Marcus: What you could do is wait till we have this phone available on our prepaid network to do a trade in. Basically changing it for a prepaid version when available as we don't have this phone yet on our network. Or you can change to a postpaid plan, the bright side is that being a prepaid customer already you can have a postpaid plan with no contracts attached.
You: No thanks. Bye.

First, @Nsane457, thank you for posting the entire transcript -- outstanding to have all that info. But wow....
That. Was. HIDEOUS.
Totally horrendous (but unfortunately, completely believable) that Verizon "certifies" a phone... but for ONLY their postpaid customers.
You'd think that Verizon's vaunted certification (which a OnePlus executive said took a year to get for the 6T) applies to ALL the plans Verizon offers so unabashedly on their website.
Would you mind sharing what model of 6T you have (color, ram, storage)? Still trying to see if that makes a difference in successful Vzw activation...

this is correct, in a change device option. you get to input new verizon device id (imei for android) and reason for switch. then you get the unspecified compatibility error. so it seems only the phones that verizon sells are allowed for switch.
has anyone tried installing my verizon and verizons version of messaging app to see if it works? just saying.....
[probably solved] verizon prepaid and oneplus 6T fiasco
hi fellow members,
the fiasco of no sms/mms is probably solved without calling/chatting with useless prepaid tech support( not knocking the hard working helpful people, just the retarded greedy mofo company they work for for limiting tech's ability to heal us). at least its working for me for the last half hour. i made several phone calls back and forth with 2 different friends, multiple texts also back and forth and mms too. as a matter of fact i turned on the hotspot, tethered my laptop and writing this post from laptop. also received 2 phonecalls and called back while writing this.
8gb/256gb version, used sim1 (furthest from the handle).
sent myself couple of text and one picture. as usual nothing. asked a friend for text, also nothing. went to dialer---- *#*#4636#*#* that took me to phone info. i changed the preferred network to lte/td-scdma within couple of seconds it got signal and some spaces started filling in with data. showed my phone number imei etc. showed voice is connected but data was disconnected. so with trial and error i figured out that the usual menu option in android (3 dots in upper right corner) has option to enable data. boom data is connected, signal shows lte and volte. there is a button to run ping test. after clicking all three tests passed. at the bottom left of the page there was a career provisioning something. i hit it for good measure :laugh: 2 options were on automatically, but voice over wifi was greyed out, backed out of that page and all texts images poured in. i called and exchanged texts since then success.
so why probably in the title?
1. you guys should try it and see if it works for you.
2. i was so happy i wanted to share first. i have not rebooted the phone since, dont know if it is going to stick
good luck to us all.
---------- Post added at 08:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:59 PM ----------
success for me. i rebooted, sent myself 1 text. 1 image, worked. tethering again and posting this.
@reaper000
if it works for you could you please change the title of thread so other people can notice thanks.
I tried my wife's Verizon prepaid sim card and volte and SMS works in my phone. Didn't do anything just popped the Sim in. Though voice over WiFi didn't work.

How about adding another layer to this stinky onion. I'm on TotalWireless, a Verizon prepaid MVNO.
I cannot get anywhere with support. I spent 5 hours troubleshooting this yesterday and another 3 today. I've been on the phone and in chats with some of the most incompetent people I've ever had the opportunity of encountering. I tried with every ounce of my being to be civil and amicable with them, but they have managed to get me to the verge of a blind rage.
They are now rufusing to help me for 72 hours because "you have called in too many times about this issue and it's not fixed so we have made a note on your account to wait 72 hours to see if it is resolved." When I called in the last time the agent gave me the silent treatment, when I then asked to speak with a representative about canceling the account because of how bad the experience has been she said to please wait and I listened to call center background noises and typing while she continued to give me the silent treatment for 5 minutes. Then I hung up.
This is a serious issue with Verizon not having their crap together with LTE only unlocked devices, but I also think this is partly on OnePlus, because being on an MVNO I'm locked out of creating a APN in OxygenOS when Verizon is the defualt APN on the SIM. I had to unlock my bootloader, root, and use a third party tool to create the APN. I can also pop my SIM into my wife's Essential PH-1 and not have an issue, so OnePlus is missing some programming somewhere I think that makes this much harder than it has to be.
