Good afternoon.
Currently need for a good source to buy a white D801 LCD+Digitizer + Frame from.
Already replaced my screen 2x.
1. due to the Ebay LCD having dead pixels...that source ran out of white screens and refunded the $$. (Gadgetfix)
2. The next screen I got from another source (smart.usa) is even worse with washed out colors and a darker bottom of the screen. Currently debating whether I want to exchange for another one of their screens or abandon these Ebay sellers altogether and find a better OEM source.
Can anyone assist?
OEM Replacement
I just went through this process and went through 5 screens before I found an Amazon seller that had a quality replacement. The screen matches the OEM that I was used to.
I can't post a direct link, as I haven't posted enough. But the seller on Amazon that eventually worked out was Etopaces Inc, fulfillment by Amazon.
Now might be a good time to order, it is about $25-$30 cheaper than when I ordered a week ago from that same listing; frustrating.

Man!!
Thank you.
Don't want to go thru that again.
Read my HTC Sensation posts if you search my name for a good laugh.
Will return the ebay screen and order from Amazon.
Did you get one with the frame?

Yeah, it was the full assembly, so I was able to plug and play. Just ordered some 2mm double sided tape on eBay to seal everything back up.
Hopefully everything works out, just know that you aren't the only one who ran into issues with screen replacements. I started questioning if there were more issues with my device, but it was just the poor quality screens that were being sent.

Thanks again for the heads up.
Promptly removed the defective screen and have packaged it for return
Will update back here with full details once I have a chance to install the Amazon screen.
Just got my new screen from Amazon seller 8090team.
First off the packaging was amazing.
The seller even promised to test the screen himself after hearing my story and rushed the screen to me even faster than the tracking # said.
Paid about 68 including the frame with a few extra for shipping.
Let me be the first to say the screen is better quality vs the 2 ebay ones I had.
My original oem screen on the phone had one the best lcds I've seen in the market and I've seen plenty of first and 2nd gen LG g2s enough to tell the difference.
Will go on record and confirm the Amazon screen is better. If I had to do it again I would have gone this route from the beginning.
I will say the aftermarket screens do not have oliophobic glass like the oem screens do. I noticed this with both the ebay and Amazon screens.
No seller lists this as a feature.
Not a dealbreaker but would love to have the option for it
After using my screen for a couple weeks now I notice :
The viewing angles are not good like OEM.
The head on quality is amazing (looks literally as good as the new Galaxy S6...had then side by side last week) however I wish the viewing angle was just as good as the OEM screen.
Going to decide today if I want to remove this one and exchange it again.
I'm the meantime I may take my original perfect OEM LCD and see if I can use professional tools to remove the digitizer glass and replace just that piece.
I swear it seems like only then will I be happy lol

Alright, long story short, I bought the Juno from Tmo several months ago. One of the reasons I was so impressed with it was the incredible screen quality, it was crystal clear, far better than any other PDA phone Id seen, at least out of what was available at Tmo.
Anyway, that phone got stolen, and the replacement I was sent had very noticeably inferior screen; not clear at all, pixelated. Not to mention a horrible viewing angle. All problems I never had with my original. So I had them send me another replacement, and it was fine again, just like my first one.
Fast forward, that phone dies. They send me another replacement, and the screen is no good again, same horrible quality as the previous replacement. The next several replacements I ask for to fix this issue have the same thing.
All the new Shadows at local Tmo stores are that way too, none of them come close to the first one I had in screen quality.
So my question is, what gives? Did HTC change their screen hardware, or have I just gotten 5 bad apples?
Thanks in advance for any insight, its driving me crazy.
I myself have a Shadow right now, altho not overall what I excepted its really nice for what it is. I miss my qwerty keyboard and touch screen. I'm actually thinking about exchanging it for a different phone. Unless you want to buy it? But the quality is great. Battery life is good.
I ran into the same thing.
The keyboard on mine failed. The replacement has an inferior screen and is missing some features of my first unit like the newer Live client and "driving directions" link on the neo interface.
It's kind of a bummer. The folks at the TMO store were clueless.

To be very honest, I've never met a TMO store clerk who had a clue. I pull my Shadow out at the store and thay are just in aww.
Make T-Mobile keep sending you replacements. I had to go through like 5 replacements in like two weeks in July until I got a good screen shadow. They'll usually waive the shipping off the bat so if the rep is gonna charge you, push to get it waived. They don't care about quality control so don't pay other than the first time. I paid for $15 express overnight the first time and they overnighted for free every other time.
The clueless reps won't believe you. They'll tell you to do a hard reset and go to contrast settings... so what I did was I made a tinyurl of a good thread with pictures right in the first post.
Before you waste too much breath and time, tell them to go to
www.tinyurl.com/shadowscreen (yes the reps have internet access).
That saved me so much time in the phone calls ordering more replacements. After the 2nd or so replacement they didn't believe me anymore so I had to show them.
After the 4th, they made me go to a T-Mobile store to have a rep confirm the issue in person. What I did was bring a friend's good shadow and a bad replacement. The rep couldn't tell a difference with both shadows on the home screen.
He thought I was just picky. Then it hit me to show him the pink T-Mo bootup screen. I tilted them side-by-side and he finally saw the difference and apologized for doubting me. The bad one would go from pink to red to brown while the good one would stay pink in any angle. He made the note on my account and customer care did not give me anymore problems. It didn't matter though because the next one was my good one.
Im not crazy?? Oh thank god!
Thats a huge help, thanks! I'm gonna go talk to them and show them the pictures and see what they say now.
New Hardware
Yes, T-Mobile decided to change the screen hardware, but I was not aware of the screen resolution being degraded. The only bulletin I have seen refers to the screen being changed to help with them not being as prone to cracking. I am one of those "store clerks" and I am not clueless...LOL.
Figures. Half the reason I bought the phone was the amazing screen quality. Any idea if its possible to get an original still?
The "inferior" quality screens started to appear about 9-10 months ago. Here is a post I submitted at Allshadow forums showing the problem in January. I've seen the pictures used in many other forums, which was my purpose in posting:
http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=367&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
Since then, my wife's Shadow died and we received a replacement. Unfortunately, it was a bad one... I requested a second one, and it was the same. Then I decided to just sell it rather than dealing with multiple replacements again. Besides, they are a bit more "resistant" to send you replacements 9 months after purchase as opposed to when you are still in your return period
The Shadow I am using has the perfect screen. If something happens to that one and I get a bad replacement, I'll probably sell it and get another HTC device...
So, I wonder...
I accidentally cracked the screen on my shadow the other day, so Im going to try buying a replacement screen online and see if I get lucky and score one of the original, higher quality screens. It would seem that T-mobile doesn't have the good one anymore (6 "crappy" replacements later). Lets just say they aren't very fond of me; 2 call center reps I talked to knew me by name when I would call back...
Anyway, the screen should be in soon, Ill post here with the results
Finally!
Well, I saw an auction for a Shadow on ebay, and thanks to the wonderful pictures the seller posted, I could tell it was an original Shadow, with the original, glorious screen. It was kinda messed up otherwise, but I bought it anyway, took the screen out and put it in mine and voila, amazing Shadow!
Thanks for nothing T-mobile
I bought my Shadow on eBay a couple months ago and i've noticed the screen problem also, do you guys know i i'll able to get a replacement even if i didn't buy it new?
No, sadly. All of the current Shadows have the new, lower quality screen. You would have to find an original on ebay or from another person and switch the screen out (Or use the phone, if its intact)
I just hope the Shadow 2 doesn't also have the crappy screen.
strange problem
I bought a Shadow on ebay and found that the wifi working but the phone will not get a network. It would just show searching again and again. I bought another from ebay that was working well before a broken screen.I took the board from the last fone i bought and install it on the first. everything working apart from the WIfi showing "driver not installed". I then know it was the Dpad section so I changed it then wifi is working but screen color and quality change. I got a strange yellow color and at different viewing angles it would change.I reused the first Dpad and everything is ok apart from wifi. Do you need a matching Dpad flex for special screen?? and wifi???
yes, my athena x7500 is finally for sale. it just collects dust now so its time to let it go and get myself a touch HD. so if anyone is going from athena to it expect me to cook some roms for it. its in about 8,8.5/10 condition. i bought it used and babied it so almost everything is from the previous owner. the rubber i guess from sitting or just from time on the joystick came off and the camera button also came off. both can easily be replaced for a few dollars. camera can still be used by taking the stylus and sticking it into the hole of the camera button. its just the actual button that came off. screen is mint since it has a screen protector from day 1. have original box, keyboard, cables, the 4 in cable, 2 cases, and a small usb keyboard that u can also get if you like. looking for 600 plus shipping. it has the latest incarntion of my ap rom that never got released. i remember the rom was almost stable but some bugs and lack of time made me stop development.
its going to be sad to see her go but its for the better.

So I have a few specs of dust under my screen. One makes the screen look like it has a dead pixel. I called Samsung and they want me to mail it in. Pry 7 day turnaround. I bought it out of town which is s five hour round trip so an exchange is possible.
I have an ipad 2 so I would only be having small withdrawals from my tab.
Should I go ahead and send it in and hope for the best or plan a road trip. I'm leaning towards shipping it as they are paying both ways. So zero cost.
Anyone else have dust and what would you do.

Got the same on my white galaxy tab 10.1 that I bought at Best Buy two days ago (maybe part of the initial Google I/O limited edition batch?).
I see four particles of dust but only when there is direct light over the screen. Thinking about exchanging it.
A curiosity, is your tab the white or metallic gray model?
Thanks!
Had 8 specs of dust under the screen towards the top right... made me so angry I returned it and plan on waiting for a better quality tab
I had one speck and planning to return it at BB. I got the white 16GB one. I'm afraid that the replacement will have more.

Are they visible under any conditions or only under certain conditions (e.g. direct sun light over the screen)?
I had this issue with 2 tabs, including the one I currently have. I saw it, exchanged it at best buy, and the new one has it too. I'm waiting for them to get a new shipment to exchange it again.
Silver 32g
The dust is visible from all angles, even when the screen is off.
I'm waiting on an exchange unit from compusa because my first tab had slight light bleed, specs of dust, and liquid-looking blotches under the screen only visible under direct sunlight. It also had some type of big, weird, dusty looking spot under the screen. when I first noticed the light bleed i was ok with it but after i noticed the other issues i decided to return it. I'm afraid the exchange unit will have these issues so I believe I should have sent it in to Samsung. It probably would have taken longer but atleast they'd make sure I received a tablet without these screen issues... probably lol but who knows?
I didn't take the dust under the screen thing that seriously, until today when I used my tab under some bright lights and noticed a glaring white piece of dust in one corner of the screen. Highly reflective on a black background and relatively noticeable. I'm really pretty amazed. I'm still within my Best Buy return window, and will probably bring it back tomorrow.
I'm curious, for those who returned it to Best Buy, did you tell them the true reason you were returning it and did they give you any trouble? Or did you simply say you weren't happy with it?
For those who exchanged, did any of you ultimately get a perfect unit?
Not sure if I should accept a single piece of dust in the far corner of the screen, or gamble on getting a perfect screen on the next try. Won't be much of an improvement if the next screen ends up having 8 pieces of dust and a couple of dead pixels.
Edit: Just got curious and took out a penlight. Found two more central pieces of dust under the screen. Best advice to new GTAB 10.1 owners - never look too closely at your screen. You might not be happy with what you find!
just made up some BS about other issues you have with the tablet.

Yup, thats what I usually do if I have a dead pixel. Not worth aruging with the salesperson about whether its a "Significant Defect". Was just wondering what Best Buys current attitude toward these things was.
Edit: Just did the next obviously necessary thing: ran the penlight over my XOOM screen. Found extremely small pinhead size specs in a few places which seem to be parts of the screen surface with slightly greater reflectance, but nothing that appears to be dust. So, the much criticized XOOM screen seems to be dust and dead pixel free, at least in my case.
Mistery solved
I returned my Galaxy Tab to Best Buy for a replacement. I opened the new box crossing the fingers and ... the new tab was flawless! Zero dust anywhere!
Two days later I noticed two specs of dust under the screen. Hmm, I thought I did a pretty accurate inspection... I checked it very carefully again. Only two very small specs of dust: one on the right and one on the left side of the screen.
Today I check again and I can count eight specs of dust!
Is it possible they enter from outside?
I checked for possible gaps between the glass screen and the plastic case and I found a gap all around the edges of the glass screen. Not large but I can stick a sheet of paper in it.
Another possible explanation is that dust enters from the speaker grills and the connector socket. The position of the specs of dust is close to them. I think that the latter is the most probable cause.
Anyway, it is a fact that this is not dust that was trapped during the build process, this is dust that entered the tab in the 4 days that I used it. This means that the dust will keep accumulating: if I got eight specs of dust in 4 days I can imagine what I can get in a year!
This one goes back to Bets Buy too and this time for a refund.
It is really a pity, I really liked this tab!

I returned my tab to Best Buy (2nd return, first was because of lcd defect [rainbow sheen]) the second one I got was a white one that had dust under the screen. Looking over their return policy there is nothing other than the standard "we reserve the right to refuse any return/exchange" disclaimer. Those of us experiencing these issues, please do the rest of us a huge favor when returning your tablets, don't lie or misrepresent your reason for return. Be honest with the person handling the return, thereis no valid reason that they should deny it. Hopefully Best Buy will clue in with the amount of charge backs they're hopefully going to have to do in the near future.
The only thing that really pisses me off in regards to the whole situation is that none of the tabs the have left have unlocked bootloaders. It's almost insulting that the first 5 that samsung shipped for release day and none of the secondary shipments do.
Except that best buy is now requiring valid id for returns because they are tracking what people exchange for some reason. Eventually they will stop you is my guess but who knows. Just be careful.
Well along with dust under my screen...somehow a small bug got under there too.
This is very frustrating...
Sorry for the crappy quality
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX78fhbuRfg
Just received my third tab..
First one had minimal dust specs and screen separation, se ond one had fingerprint like smudges and dust particles under the screen and screen seemed loose, my third one has a tighter screen and only 1 dust particle...
I think i will just keep this one...

I have 1 speck of dust; unfortunately it is half way down the luminous battery icon so very easy to spot if you want to find it. I noticed it right away and haven't had any new pieces since then (2 weeks). Mines is the black 16gb UK one.
If it had not have been over the battery I would never have seen it and it does seem to be moving slightly so I am hopeful it will one day hit the black status bar and disappear. It depends where these things are as to whether they are annoying; personally, I get the odd speck in my eyes every now and again and you don't notice it after a week or so. The advice not to go looking for them is very good - you may well not like what you find but also it's not the end of the world if the device functions. The first scratch anywhere is the worse on any device but after that you realise it is no biggie. My ipod has a giant crack in the screen so it could be a lot worse.
I went through two 32GB at Best Buy both with horrible (5+) pieces of dust under the screen. The second one had like a piece of string or something a couple mm long under it. Third unit appears completely flawless (for now) and I am quite satisfied.

I've edited the whole post to simplify it:
Dropped nine-day-old Zenfone 2 Laser (ZE551KL). My heart shattered, as did the display.
Asus Canada wants $124 to repair it (Canadian dollars; estimate provided by telephone representative), and the only location to repair it is 3388 km (2105 mi) away and apparently takes walk-ins only, but I'm quite comfortable repairing it myself if the repair process is similar in ease to the Zenfone 2 walkthrough.
Searching for ZE551KL LCD modules returns only two or three matches. Since I can't post links because I'm too new at xda, I'll just post the search terms: "90AZ00T1-R20010"* and "90AZ00T1-R20020"* (I don't know what the difference is, but they're both unavailable anyway), as well as "B90AZ00T1-R20010" (which I would need to e-mail about availability, compatibility, and pricing). (Note the leading B on the Czech website part number, which makes searching for the module a bit difficult, since searching for either of the part numbers only ends up returning the original pages).
Update: I heard back from AsusParts.eu (where I found the asterisked parts above), and they said that they can't get the parts and that I'd need to get it serviced through Asus. The phone was only released in November, though, so I'm wondering if part availability will change (not just with them, but in terms of the lack of availability anywhere online).
The rest of the search results are for:
ZD551KL (Zenfone Selfie), which has essentially identical components and size, but the front display has a larger, better, centred 13 MP camera (compared to the ZE551KL smaller, offset 5 MP camera), but specifically mentions "ZD551KL ZE551ML" along the ribbon cable, and the AliExpress sellers say that it's compatible with both, while the eBay sellers only mention ZD551KL.
ZE551ML, which has different internal components, but the display and device dimensions appear to be identical.
If the ZD551KL display also supposedly works for the ZE551KL but the cameras are markedly different, it appears that I'd have to replace the camera module, too, and that's when I become particularly concerned about compatibility (both physical and firmware). Does anyone know if it actually would work?
The ZE551ML screen looks identical, but I'm not sure if it actually is. Does anyone know about this?
Any thoughts on other places to try finding the actual specific display?
I contacted Asus, and (no surprise) they won't give me any part-related information. "Send the phone in" is all that I'm told.
Thank you very much!
Well the smaller resolution might cause problems.

An authentic ZD551KL screen should have the same resolution as the ZE551KL. It's the size of the part, ribbon cable compatibility, and camera that I'm particularly worried about.

Unfortunately not. I figured there was nothing to lose trying to call them and live chat them requesting anything of the sort (part information, available to purchase, etc), but they would give me no information whatsoever and kept referring me back to opening a service ticket for repair. Their lips are sealed; they insist on doing it themselves.

Well you will need to see if the camera is attached to the same board and if you can get a different front plate so that the screen will fit on the different phone. The ribbon cable itself should be fine. Most parts should be rather modular. The only concern would be the front bezel.
Silly question but I just bought the phone on Amazon 32Gb and 3Gb RAM for $199. One of the selling point for me was the Corning Gorilla Glass 4, Its supposed to be pretty durable, so how did yours crack? And have you been able to find a replacement screen you can diy?

Mine was on a desk in a communal laboratory office, attached to a long charging cord. Someone asked where something was, so rather than describe its location, I got up to show her where it is. The long cord was tangled in my chair wheels, so when I backed my chair up, it pulled the phone off of the desk, making it land face down onto a slightly gritty laminate tile floor.
I found a screen from a place in Germany. They say that they get their parts directly from Asus. Both of those statements should make you expect that it won't be cheap, and indeed it is not: €80. That's within a few dollars of what Asus Canada was wanting to charge me.
I would like to clear one thing to you dear,
ZE551KL & ZD551KL have different screens.
ZE551KL has 401PPI but ZD551KL have 403PPI.
my working twrp for ZE551KL does not work with ZD551KL due to this issue ( same twrp with full working touch for ze551kl does not work with zd551kl touch)

Do you have any thoughts as to why the Selfie LCD (even direct from Asus) has "ZD551KL/ZE551KL" written on it, if that's the case? Just curious.
In the same boat
I dropped mine on New Year's eve
I searched on Aliexpress (tinyurlDOTcom/njtjav2) and found a replacement digitizer for around $35 (free shipping) which is not that expensive.
I'm from Europe btw.
Tomorrow I plan to go to my local Asus representative to see if they can replace it for around the same price, if not Aliexpress it is.

Just be really careful. All of the results that were in your link are screens for the Selfie (look at the top of the screen, and see how it differs from the Zenfone 2 Laser ZE551KL). The speaker and camera holes are in completely different spots.

I went to the official Asus representative today and they offered original replacement screen for around €50 with warranty which is a no brainer for me.
I'll wait about a month which would have been the same if I went the Aliexpress route (if they had a screen for my model that is).
To be honest I was surprised that it was that cheap. I guess competition is a good thing

Did you buy the phone using a credit card?
Many credit cards have accidental damage insurance for the first 90 days of purchase.
Usually you have to file a claim and get the work approved so it takes time, but they pay for it once you do all the paperwork stuff.

I want you to know how nearly-completely-psychotically thankful I am for your post. I called by bank earlier to ask about what kind of purchase protection I had, and the answer was disappointing, but after you made your post, I looked up information for my bank, and it suggested that I should indeed have 90 days of accidental damage insurance.
I called them, filled out the form, and received the cheque a few days ago. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Awesome! Thank you very much!
Ugh, opened my car door earlier and both of my phones slid out and dropped. Of course, the one with the case is fine (x522). My x720 alas, cracked. It works still, obviosuly, but could worsen, especially the impact spot. Anyone know how much it is to fix the screen, or if its even worth it. Hate to have to look for a new phone...
Sorry to hear that. I have seen screens for as low as $13.00. But I would spend a little more for better quality. Supposedly the all black s1 screen works well and it looks good because its all black and it will modernize the look of the phone.
Use a heat gun to remove the screen you can videos on Youtube.

If you want to sell it @Distributor might be interested in it.

I have no idea.
Personally, I would spend a little more and buy from Amazon. With Amazon you not only have the Manufacturer's warranty. You also have a money back guarantee by Amazon themselves. For this reason, I buy most of my online purchases through Amazon.
However, I just found this https://de.aliexpress.com/item/Orig...-X725-X727-LCD-Display-Touch/32819262724.html and according to the description its OEM ( Original Equipment Manufacturer)
So Go for the less expensive one.
Make sure that you order some 3m or professional Smart phone repair tape.
FYI, when you put the screen back on it fits tightly and will stay even without Glue and tape. But you absolutely want tape of even better water resealable glue

I got this one (the black one), and couldnt be happier. Dont see any difference vs stock.
