Hello guys ! So i'm thinking to buy a new phone to replace my gnex because it drains too fast when in mobile network. I ask you all, is nexus 4 still a good phone to accompanied your daily life ? Especially on the battery.
P.S. I heard that since lollipop, the battery is better. Is that true ??

I wouldn't go from gnex to nexus 4. For me battery life is worse on lollipop. If battery is important to you buy some other device. The battery life on any nexus device is not good.
The Nexus 4 is still a very good device. If it wasn't, this forum wouldn't still have very active discussion and development.
Its 2 main disadvantages are the camera, which is mediocre, and the battery life, which is also mediocre. It should be better than your Galaxy Nexus though.
If a strong battery is more important to you, look at the 2013 Moto G. Slightly smaller screen, but still 720p, and very good battery life. The 2015 Moto E doesn't have as good a screen, but has even better battery life.
yes, nexus still is a great piece of hardware and I like that body
battery is medicore like planterz said, but last for one day (3-4SOT) on 2G.
I'm lookin' something else but really? I can't find phone 4,5-4,7" with a good hardware and good camera.

Take a look at z3 compact. It has amazing battery life. That is the phone I would go to if I would want to upgrade from my n4.
its too expensive and... its Sony, i don't like that manufacturer.

Thank you
Looks too good man, nice battery.
Well, battery looks like to be similar to Z1. It's 40% @ 3h 24m screen on time, so it should be 5-6 hours screen on, like my Z1.

I think it'll do better than that. Z1 can only go for 4 hours max with auto sync, 3G and WiFi on.
I hope so. Anyway, im very happy with my Z1 batter life, more then happy.
As long as it can hold a whole day, I'll be happy. It can't be worse than my Nexus 4 not even holding a whole day.

Now have second thoughts about buying Z2. I never get less than 8 hours screen time (over 24 hours total time) on my Note 3. Tho I am using a custom kernel.

So with 2600mAh battery HTC just did a great job of 71 hour endurance,
do you think that with 3200mAh battery Sony will do much longer cause it runs in the same chip set and all.
Xperia Z2's display is slightly bigger than the HTC One(M8).

The Z1 came up pretty short despite the 3000mAh, so Sony needs massive improvement over efficiency. I think it's doable on the HW front, big question mark is the screen that let the Z & Z1 down. Fingers crossed.

I don't know how sony managed to screw the battery life on the Z1, that battery is huge and yet it underperforms, I hope history won't repeat itself with the Z2 :crying:

I agree, the camera isnt bad at all. It is a matter of how you look at it. Just dont compare a smartphone camera to a dslr.
The nexus 4 is a great device and it never fail on me once. Of course it depends on the user and how you tweak your phone. I can tell you there are tons of modifications that you can do. It isnt a bad deal at all.
To keep it short: why dont you grab your mothers nexus 4 and try it out for couple days. All answers will be very subjective and in the end it is your decision. What matters is, how you feel!
BTW, I have a s4 and a nexus 5 as well. I HATE using the s4 camera, as Samsung's software does nothing but piss me off(lol), so i stopped using it. both n4 and n5 cams I really like.
thanks guys, I'm running CM11 on my s4 becuz touchwiz pissed me the heck off lol I'm a photographer so it helps to have a decent camera when i don't have my dslr with me i LOVE the sparkly back on it it looks so sweet not to mention my s4 isn't the prettiest phone out there lol

The ONLY thing I've ever been disappointed in with my N4 is the camera. I also have the S4 (running CM11) and there's no comparison, the S4's 13 Megapixel camera blows away the N4's 8 megapixel. However, as long as there is PLENTY of light the N4 does take nice shots regardless of which camera app your using.
Battery life is almost a whole day running CM11 M8 build (4.4.4.)
Personally, I'm waiting for the G3..
thanks, ill just have to play around with the camera, guess you'll be seeing me on this forum quite a bit from now on
If you're looking for a good camera the last phone you want to get is the Nexus 4. Even the S2 camera is better...
You can do some adjustments to make the quality better (Exposure, Autofocus mode) but that will take you about 10 seconds which may be a lot if you need to take a quick shot

True. The GS4 has an amazing camera. I tried my mom's old gs4 and it's much better. I recently has a G2 for a while and used the camera quite a bit. The screen broke and I'm back to nexus. I feel like the camera is off a old Nokia phone compared to gs4 and g2. Before I had the g2, i thought the camera was actually pretty good.

So I took the leap to the S6 edge. Took the test drive for 8 days and had to return it. I couldn't do it. It was too small for my taste it felt like I was texting on an iPhone (coming from Note 3, 4, and Nexus 6). The battery life was horrible and the feel from the sloped glass felt off in my hands kind of a sharp uncomfortable feel. Now don't get me wrong the phone is sexy as hell and the camera was a beast but the essentials just wasn't there (battery replacement, SD card, large screen). I was also shocked that it lagged at times. I gave it more than one chance but I just couldn't do it. So I'm back to the Note. And it feels so good. You'll never miss something till it's gone. True Story. Waiting on the Note 5 and hope it comes with a replaceable battery.
Ditto. Everything you just said sums up how I felt after a week with the edge. Although battery life was due to the root method I used removed the stock recovery (or something like that) so the phone would never go into deep sleep. But even on stock battery wasn't anything compared to the note 4. Not to mention I have a spare battery so as soon as one dies, fully charged one goes in phone and dead battery goes to charge. I haven't plugged my phone to charge since like December lol.

I guess it's all about the user.
I still like my Note 4. I am also using Galaxy Alpha on Tmo. Tiny phone and cute and I use it when I go jogging. Its only $10 more after the 3rd phone.
Welcome back. My thoughts were the same. The only thing superior is the camera and manual mode . . . But outside of that i view it as a inferior device to the note 4. Its a well made phone though but no expandable memory is a huge fail since we are in the hd and qhd era for content. Streaming is and cloud is not always a reliable solution for many too.

It says 4 hours and 2 minutes, not 6. I don't think 4 hours of SOT is that impressive. I get 6 or more on my Note 4 without even trying.

No games at all mostly spotify or web browsing on team stream. Kernel apps show that the battery is in good condition and it's only about 4 months old.

I thought you were on lollipop as well.
Kitkat is where the battery life is at.
I'll tell you how to get 6 hours on screen time... Turn your screen brightness all the way down and turn on power saver mode. Heck even ultra power if you want.
Everyone user who posts absurd battery life in comparison to almost everyone else is more than likely running some kind of power saver setting all day. Unless you post some kind of time lapse of your settings throughout an entire day of use I'm calling bs.
No way you get that battery life under some what normal scenarios.
I just got the s7 edge. Had my droid turbo for almost 2 years. My 2 complaints was the battery, why on earth a beautiful 3900 mah battery didnt last longer? Also the lack of updates, there is no reason on why stagefright was not patched yet. Marshmellow? I dont believe it. At lease the s7 edge will get updates. By the way, if your not like me and cant wait. the best phone will be the lg v20. I just couldnt wait any longer but was a hell of a ride!
Good luck brother, glad to have you while it lasted. I feel your frustration with the battery. Definitely should of added better battery management but oh well I guess. Enjoy the new phone! I'm actually going to keep mine for literally as long as it lasts. Going to replace the battery soon and see if I can squeeze another year out of it or so. I really want the Moto z droid force though. But none of the arrangements except the extra battery.
Rather ironic that you complain about the battery going bad, and you purchased an S7! Certainly hoping it is a fixed one.

The S7, S7 Edge, and Note 7 are the small, medium, large of the "7" series. People lumped them together that way anyway, but this year Samsung skipped the Note 6, so their Note numbering could catch up to their S series. They are numbered the same and have the same design language to all be one group, even though they are released at two different times in the year.

Hey all!
I purchased the Sprint Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720) off of Craigslist for a screaming deal of 30 bucks in April. It was a great device and at first I didn't notice the issues. After awhile though, I began to notice that it would heat up doing very menial tasks, such as web browsing. This would cause excessive battery drain and also performance issues. I have also noticed that during undemanding gaming it would heat as well. This issue isn't seen as much on the stock Touchwiz ROM (seen most obviously in custom ROMs) but is still present. So, I've a few questions for whoever is willing to help me out a little:
1. Is this issue always present on this phone, despite condition? Or is it a result of years of use? Or neither?...
2. Would a new S4 (preferably GT-i9505) have the same issues?
3. Is this a result of some difference between Sprint's variant and the i9505?
Thanks for any responses. FYI, I only use the phone over WiFi (Sprint isn't my carrier).
Same problem

No; most of the reviews for them on Amazon say that they enlarge after a few charges. My sister has an S4 with that issue, and it's literally ripped her phone apart over time, separating the screen from the body and even causing the home button to fall off. If you could provide a link to a new stock battery that'd be great.

I had 6 different batteries for my S4 and never had that problem. Best thing to do is buy an OEM Samsung battery or one from a respected 3rd party such as Anker. I swear it does wonders. Especially on a device as old as this. It's a lot cheaper than buying a new phone.

More of a pain than charging your phone? It takes 30 seconds compared to hours.

Okay, I see your point. So does this really improve performance and/or heating issues?

Performance, no. It's a battery. It powers the device, that's it's only purpose. Battery life, yes. For performance, I would recommend trying a different ROM. A new battery should help with overheating, but could also be being caused by a number of things like apps running in the background and many other things. I recommend using Greenify if you aren't using it already.

Is the Team Wicked X ROM banner a little hint-hint?
I've found CM13 to be the best performer for me. My main concern is overheating while doing simple things like web browsing.

On my PC I have a signature, the app doesn't allow you to use banner signatures anymore. Use whatever works best for you, but if you haven't tried it I guarantee it is the most updated TouchWiz ROM for this device by far.
