Hi
Rooted SM-T530NU, when I go to Software Update it fails.
Says....
"The operating system on your devices has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Samsung Kies on your PC or visit a customer service centre"
Any idea how I do this or do I need to return to stock for 4.4.4 and/or 5.0?
Thanks

Usually you can't perform an official update while rooted. Which build number are you on and which are you trying to update to? There are other ways to do what you are looking to do, that will allow you to stay rooted. Oh and if you prefer to stay on the version you currently are on, there's a way to stop your tablet from trying to update.
There is no stock 5.0 or even 4.4.4, all the stock roms and firmware builds are 4.4.2 (still KitKat, obviously).

Yes I have Odin, but 5.0 isn't out yet.
I assume I need to return to stock to get the OTA when it comes, unless you know another way....

Not trying to update yet, but would like to when 5.0.? gets here for us.
Right now I'm on build 4.4.2 although I read there was an update to 4.4.4 with a new kernel out there. Don't care about missing that tho.

When a device is rooted, firmware is modified (customised) so the update is not available as Samsung considers it as another firmware.
If you want to get OTA updates back, you must unroot first. Flashing again the stock firmware without rooting it will allow you to have OTA again.
You can also use TriangleAway in order to reset your flash counter for warranty purposes.

No, after returning to official status, you can use whatever you want to update (KIES, OTA and Odin).
May I suggest you to use the pre-rooted roms made for i9505. They are identical to stock roms, are already rooted and keep the official status.

Triangle away is just for reset flash counter. If you're now on official status and the Samsung's OTA is available, there is no need to keep it.
Anyway, in order to work, TriangleAway (TA) needs root. So if you're unrooted, you cannot use it.
For the other roms like cyanogenmod, there is no need of TA. Their updater will update the rom regardless of flash counter or status, as it cannot be official anayway !

today my phone gave the notification of a new update. it can download it but when trying to install it it gives an error that it cant install it ota and i have to use kies?
i better didnt root because it is a phone of my employer
As you received your OTA file, everything is back to normal. However, sometimes OTA may not work correctly. You should then update with KIES or use Odin to flash the correct version.
Hi guys, I'm a kinda of novice on android after coming from blackberry, I rooted my I9500 using chainfire auto root and everything worked flawlessly well. I never use triangle away since its not available for the device. Now some new updates are rolling in from Sammy and really love touchwiz so I didn't bother myself with custom roms. I would love to have those updates cos I heard they make the phone really fast and eliminate lagging. When I checked for updates I still get I have the latest firmware. My device status shows official. I didn't do anything to change Dat. If you guys have any idea how to get OTA Plz ur ideas are welcome plus a step by step method of running stock rom via odin is appreciated. Here is a snapshot of my device. Pls guys don't be offended if someone has already post a similar complaint.

I have rooted my S4 using CF-Auto-Root.
I'm not sure if the 4.3 upgrade is available at the moment or not, but if not it should be available soon.
Is there a way to revert the rooting so that the stock android would allow me to do the upgrade ?
Would that leave me unable to root it again, or CF-Auto-Root doesn't care whether i'm running 4.2.2 or 4.3
Thanks in advance

Hi,
You should have asked before you did something that you were unsure of.
At the moment there is no way of getting completely back to stock if you customize your i9500.
The Triangle Away method of resetting your counter, does not currently work for the i9500.
So , you probably cannot return to complete stock in order to get the OTA , if and when it comes.
Your choice of ROMS is HERE
Does not look like much in the way of 4.3

Well i beg to differ with you Sir.
In I9500 the binary counter is hidden and that has nothing to do with OTA updates
To OP you can revert to Stock by downloading the latest STock rom and flash it via odin..
After you have flashed it VIa odin then you are pure stock and OTA updates would work like Charm
What you have done with CF-Root has only triggered the Binary counter and makes your phone out of warranty ( until the triangle away is available for i9500)

It may be that you are correct as well. :good:
I do not wish bad on anyone, but some have reported no OTA possible after they rooted.

Not completely true, Samsung has instructed service points to repair faulty devices under warranty even if they are rooted. This is however a ONE time courtesy, from the second time the owner has to pay to repair if the phone is rooted.

Ya, but i guess it depends on region to region..
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9500) which is rooted. Plugging it into Samsung Kies shows that there's an update to the MG9 firmware available for it. I'd like to know whether it will be possible to do a backup and upgrade with the phone rooted.
If not, how safe would it be to unroot the phone via SuperSU's menu before flashing through Kies?
Lastly, if I am going to be recommended not to do either of the above, then where can I get a link to manually download the latest, original firmware as well as a working root for said firmware, for my i9500?
Thanks for the responses in advance.

Don`t think if you`ll be able to update through Kies or OTA as you system is modified and the counter is raised. You`ll have to wait till Triangle Away will work for the I9500. Just flash the new rom with Odin and reroot afterwards.

Can anyone else confirm or provide me with a link to the latest official firmware? I have searched rather quickly myself, but keep getting results for the MG5 firmware instead, which is supposedly newer than the MG9 firmware. However, Kies tells me that the latest for my device is actually MG9.
If anyone could just shed some light.

Thanks for that. Not too sure where my device originated from, so I'll have to check the documentation when I get home or something.
Also, coincidentally I stumbled upon that website about 20 minutes ago. Didn't even notice they supplied the firmware.

The i9500 variant will use any i9500 software as far as I know. You can flash the UAE firmware on an Indian i9500 and it will work fine. This goes with any country, you just need to flash using odin

Haha. This is why im a noob
Is it possible to update from 4.3 to 4.4.x through Kies or through the updater on the phone itself? I'm running 4.3, but the phone and Kies both say that it is running the latest firmware.
Probably not. I believe T-Mobile and Russian users got the update OTA but not us. Why not just use Odin? Just make a manual backup and flash Odin, then restore it and voila.
Best of luck! :good::good::good::good::good:
