Seriously... when was the last time you replaced a phone battery? I've owned multiple phones from Iphone 4(had it for less than 2 weeks and passed it off to my mom)/Samsungs G1 G2 and Focus/Nokia L920 not ONCE I ran into battery issues. All these flagship phones are going to be obsolete by next year I PROMISE you... with google glass and all the crazy tech thats coming out... next years tech will dwarf this years... You will never even get the chance to have a failing battery because lets be honest here you will get rid of your phone for the next best thing next year. HTC One is a beautiful phone and I can't wait to buy it. Complaining about SDCARD? lol I had the Lumia920 with all my music loaded(32gb version) and took a **** ton of photos and videos and I still had a lot of space left... buy the damn 64GB version if you are so concerned about space. Im saving money and buying the 32GB because realistically 32gb is enough for me and yes I will upgrade my phone next year because I am a phone enthusiast. I sold my L920 on craigslist(just like every other phone Ive owned) for 50$ less than market price and now I am waiting to buy the HTC One with the cash... I am pumped for the ONE can't wait till Rogers starts shipping them in Canada!
I will buy the 64gb version. Even that won't be sufficient storage for me. Not even close. Yes I have a monster music collection, even at 256kbps it's well over 100GB.
I can live without the battery, but there is no reason not to have an SD slot.

My fellow troll, First off you should speak for yourself. Secondly I pity you for buying the phone even though you are troubled about the non-removable battery, also pretty laughable tho. At least I don't give a flying f about the battery.

I hear you cause i never replace tha battery of a phone myself but some people do. Some people carry an extra battery to swap out real quick and keep doing their thing, it depends on how you use your phone. But having a removable battery is always better than non removable.

I guess that makes sense... I guess the average user does not carry multiple batteries with them but you make a valid point.:good:
I prefer the aesthetics of the One over the choice to have a removable battery. Only times I had to take the battery out of my S3 was to restart the phone.
I haven't missed it at all on my N4.

HTC is stingy with their battery size. They make a phone with a killer design and give it an mediocre battery size ( the HTC One has an acceptable battery size, the One X and droid buterfly/DNA is totally unacceptable).
unfortunately, i completely disagree with you.. the ability to remove the battery and replace it is a incredible convenience. i have 3 batteries that i use even though i dont use it every day...
1. i never have to plug my phone into an outlet.. i can carry my phone with me even if i walk around the house.. once my battery is low i switch it out and replace the other battery and have my other battery charging on a separate battery charger.
2. after using my phone all day i can come home and switch my battery and go out again without having to wait for my battery to charge, charging while i drive doesnt give me enough power when i go out..
3. i never have to worry about my battery level, i dont have to pace myself when i use my phone.. i use it freely.. unlike some users that turn off their 3G, wifi.. to conserve battery
4. it's especially great when i go on vacation, since i use my phone for navigation, surf the web, yelp, etc. my phone is on heavy usage, but i don't have to worry since i have 3 batteries..
You might not appreciate it but one of the great things about Android is users have a choice of what they need, and having the ability to replace my battery is always a plus.
having said that i am still getting the one because i love the built, not having a removable battery is just a trade off i will have to live with.. and hopefully i wont regret it..

Buying a smartphone invariably involves compromises. There's a lot that (from my perspective) is wrong with the One - the screen is much too small, the lack of storage, the fixed battery; there's also a lot that's right - a non-OLED display, good-quality built-in speakers, good performance, and a camera that doesn't pander only to marketing numbers. Right now it's the best compromise available.
The problems with your initial post are that it betrays a woeful lack of imagination, and a woeful level of arrogance. You are unable to understand why other people's requirements might be different from your own, and unable to accept that their opinions may actually be just as valid as yours, despite being different. I would have been happier with more storage (if the 64GB version were actually available in Britain, that would be a good start), and with a removable battery; but, unlike you, I am able to understand why other people might not have the same requirements that I have (for example, because they don't watch downloaded hi-def video on their phones to the extent that I'm likely to) and it would never occur to me to ridicule someone merely because they have different priorities.
Those who says that he needs removable battery are psycho idiots.
Try not to depend on your mobile phone, try to have normal life then just typing.
When my battery is low, im happy, leave him on bad, and go out work something, or make dinner.

Dude, I replaced my phone battery twice because it bloated.
As much I prefer removable batteries, I see its probably near impossible to provide a practical unibody chassis with a removable battery.
You clearly do not to swap your battery out, there are people who do and so this isn't the phone for them......... quite simple really, get over it, the world doesn't revolve around you.
Removable battery or lack there of is slightly annoying but to be honest you get a 2 year warranty so if it does fail you can get it replaced easily enough. Yes it's not as convenient as if you could swap it our yourself or even get an uprated Mugen battery for longer life but c'est la vie, the One is still more than good enough with a non-removable.....
Also on storage....There are surely very few people who will honestly use more than 64gig, and if you do happen to need more than this on your phone then honestly you need to invest in a laptop/PC and an external hard-drive or if you just want it for music, buy an MP3 player with a card slot......this should do it http://www.amazon.co.uk/micro-card-...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1363338492&sr=1-1

My thoughts exactly, having thousands of songs loaded on your phone is stupid... you only listen to a few!
I will laugh at OP when a storm strikes his residence and no electricity for a few days. Then you will remember this stupid thread. That happened with me some weeks ago and if not for my beloved HD2, I would be screwed. It was a once in a lifetime thing, but it happened. Removable battery and sd slot are important features, that matter for many users, for various reasons. I don"t care about IR remote control, but if it is important for some users, I don"t ***** about it.
Samsung IV is an ugly piece of plastic with an ugly UI, but they"re doing it right with the aforementioned features because Samsung knows that many android users aren"t yet isheeps, ie, users that turn a bad thing into a glorious invention.
Android filesystem limitations make sd slot important and an external battery is not as handy as a removable one. A phone can be slim and have this features. Htc and Asus are just trying to save / make more money.
While the camera and processor of the new S6 looks amazing, the lack of external memory and battery changing is a deal breaker for me.
Let's start with the memory. Samsung's claim that they don't need to have the external memory slot is because 1.) The on board memory is faster 2.) Android doesn't really allow you to install apps to the external memory anymore 3.) They now offer 128GB models.
While all the above is true, that does not mean i don't want my external memory. Let's start with the price of the phone. A 16GB model will be the base. Then for another $100, you can get the 32GB. Another $100, you can get the $64. And then for another $100 (or probably $200), you can get the $128GB. That means, that the extra memory will cost you at least $300-$400. And remember, this is on a phone that will only last you 1-2 years before you want to upgrade it. So that is $300-$400 wasted. On the other hand, I can buy a Sandisk 128GB microSD card for $100. Everytime I switch phones, I can easily take my memory to the next phone. It's an investment that does not get wasted.
The speed or Android limitations of the external memory doesn't matter for things like movies, ebooks, comics, magazines, music, etc. I keep all that on my memory card, and it loads in less than a second on my phone. On top of that, when I need to load more items, I don't use the slow USB 2.0 interface. I pop out my microSD and put it in my $15 USB 3.0 reader and copy my multimedia over 3-4x faster. With the internal memory of the phone, I would be stuck using a USB 2.0 interface to copy multimedia which can take ridiculously long.
Oh.. and for added bonus, when I want to watch a movie on my Galaxy Tab S 10.5, I can take the 128GB memory card out of my phone, and pop it into the tablet. No muss, no fuss.
Now let's look at the battery.
Since Samsung used the glass back, you can no longer have replaceable batteries. This is my biggest issue with iPhones. I had to set up a charging station at my apartment for all my friends who came here, as their iPhones were always on low battery (or even dead). Meanwhile, I could bring a small pocketable battery with me everywhere. I keep one in my winter jacket and have one to slip into my jeans. I currently have a Note 4, and have only had to change the battery twice, but it's nice not worrying the entire night that showing my friends pics or texting with a friend, will result in a dead battery for the night.
Sure, you can carry a external battery charger.. But now you have to carry that and a cable that needs to be strapped in all the time to charge. (BTW.. if a manufacturer of these external batteries comes up with a way to utilize Fast Charging to charge the phone 50% in ten minutes, they will make some big $$$$)
I'm not even going to get into the topic of all the cracked iPhone backs I see daily... Which depending on the strength of this new gorilla glass, will probably happen.
Basically my point is, the reason I didn't make the move to iPhone (which 95% of my friends have) is due these options. By removing them, Samsung has made less options available for me to claim that my phone is better than an iPhone.
I'm going to stick with my Note 4. But Samsung.. if you do this same thing to the Note 5, I am switching brands.. or moving to iPhone. (EDIT: I am NOT moving to an iPhone.. I guess no understands my humor)
No external memory, no exchangeable battery, no way! What alternatives do we have if we limit this discussion to high end Android phones?
I agree with the all the key points made by EvanWasHere, furthermore, the reason I didn't go for the iPhone, is because no matter how much internal memory they give you, everything you load into your phone such as pictures, video, music, apps., etc......... Will eventually will impact the performance of your phone, unless you upload everything to a virtual storage, such as Drop Box, Google Drive etc...... I think I am going for the Note4.
No replaceable battery makes the AMOLED screen the only reason to still stick with Samsung. Given that a Galaxy phone is still pricey, I wonder if it is this one feature which is worth sticking to Samsung.

I'm not sure where you get $300-$400 from... There is no 16GB S6, it starts at 32GB. Also many Android phones go up by $50 per storage capacity, while a few go by $100 increments. Either way, you are looking at either $100 or $200 more for a 128GB over a 32GB, not $300-$400. Stop being so dramatic.
USB 2.0 is 480Mbps (60MB/s), and from my SanDisk 64GB MicroSD card I usually get around 50MB/s on my USB 3.0 card reader, so it's really not that much slower.
Why downgrade?
1. No micro SD slot
2. Non user-replaceable battery
3. Non user-replaceable battery cover, can't install dual sim adapter, useless unibody design specially when I travel.
4. Not water resistant. I use my S5 to take pics when inside pool, in rain, in snow, in Ocean as well. Unibody design should make it waterproof..unbelievable that its not even water resistant!
5. Not buying is the only way to show Samsung they their "Vendor lock in" strategy has failed.
I blame all the idiot tech journalists that are in bed with Apple and claim metal body as "premium feel/design". I also blame the sheep people that agree with these opinions. I do understand if some people genuinely prefer metal body, at least they got what they wanted in terms of design, not sure about features though.
Going to wait for G4 and Z4 now, or get Note 5 as Samsung will be back into their senses by then.
PS SanDisk just announced a 200GB microSD to rub salt on our wounds !

I agree with you on some of the points . No micro sd is a huge one. But this dramatic change is much needed for samsung because the s5 wasn't doing so well and if they came up with another s5 then it's going to be a big loss for them. I personally think this is the best decision samsung took. People got tired of the same recycled galaxies and the numbers are showing this. Sales are down apple is back things aren't looking good.
The galaxy s6 would've been amazing if it had a bigger battery and a micro sd. Otherwise, this is truly a powerful device that's much more polished than any previous iteration.

do you know how many bad card readers samsung phones have had? its liabillity plus the fact the android makes copy to sd harder now.
theres wifi almost everywhere, so cloud storags is an option.
they sell phone cases that have extendable batteries built in. and u can still change the battery if ur willing to take the phone apart.
if thats all thats stoping u from using an iphone, u really dont seem to interested in what android offers over ios then

Nothing against you bro, but I just want to point out something so quoted you!
Sales are not down because of recycled galaxies...think about it for a second. Sales are down because of the saturated market, and all the super phones! I won't name them all since you can pick just about any to compare and we see the power of these devices i.e. the note 4 what CAN'T it do, the S5 the g3, I phone 6, Nexus 6...
All of the above mentioned are the reason sales are down.
Same reason why development is down also, the devs have so many choices and devices to support it got overwhelming...think HTC HD2 had so many devs they were tripping over each other cause everyone had that phone. Now not only many phones also variants like edge, active, mini further hampers this.

While I appreciate your points, this is probably how the discussion went at Samsung that led to the poor decision to drop so many of the staple features. The case argument it's the worst...7-9 hundred dollar premium phone and you need to buy more stuff to make it work like it used too (should)! TAKE THE PHONE APART??? Ya they took that feature away REMEMBER!

Some interesting points I personally could live without non removable able battery and possibly sd card forsake of a beautifully crafted premium looking phone. However I fear Samsung are going to go crazy on the price which will be a complete put off. Base price is £579 for the 32gb version and probably another £50-£100 for next model up, which is a rip off just like iPhone.
Edge will probably come in at £699 for 64gb which is crazy even though it looks fantastic.
having said all that I'm really pleased spammy finally moved away from crappy plastic which was really costing them just one more major change required get rid of TW and possibly amoled and try lcd.
Yeah, Second thing I usually do with my phone is root and flash to stock to get rid of TW.
First is to swap the microsd out from my old phone, and buy a spare battery and plastic case, so premium build is sort of lost on me, and the rest....

For all of you who are ranting about this phone not having a removable battery, I ask a serious question: How many times have you actually swapped batteries out? And if you have swapped, is it because you basically let your phone die (meaning you had opportunities to charge it but didn't just because you had the battery)?
I don't think I've EVER had my G3 die on me - and this phone is not known for its battery life. I have a charger at work and a charger at home and I'm usually at one of these places so I'm never far away from a charger. Does not having a removable battery IN ACTUAL USE really make that big of a difference? If the S6 can last you from morning to night, is that not enough?
My S4 is currently carrying its third battery, the two previous ones (one Samsung, one third-party) slowly died of old age (decreasing health with increasing charging cycles). I rarely forgot to charge my phone over night. It's just that I'd like to use it until the actual hardware fades away, not just until the battery lifetime is reached.

I've never switched the battery in my phone, well since my Ericsson T18. But there wasn't a phone since that I ddin't have to remove the battery to turn it off completely, because something got stuck and kept crashing. Or it was the easiest way to boot into recovery after a boot loop. Tablets without removable batteries have reset switches, but any software method you use can't reinitialize hardware as a physical power off can.
This thread was inevitable. I mean Samsung could even make pigs fly, but there will be threads like this. The whole galaxy section is littered with such threads, which shows the sorry mental state of our society. Just relentless cribbing, crying and whining.
You know what, I get it you don't like it, you won't buy it and like some other device. Perfect. Why don't you go to HTC/LG/Sony/Apple forum and post a positive comment why you actually want to buy that phone instead of crying in this S6 forum? Saying something positive (don't mean astroturfing) is much better than reading this non-stop negative comments.
- So you feel that you should encourage others also not to buy the phone
- You want sympathy from the other members that Samsung failed to live to to your high standards and expectations
- You want to start a movement to force Samsung to stop the launch and give you want you wanted
- You feel the members are not educated enough to judge what's good for them
- Just sharing your thoughts and feel obliged to open a new thread even though the exact thing was mentioned probably 7450 times in last 2 days.

Base price is £579 for the 32gb version and probably another £50-£100 for next model up, which is a rip off just like iPhone.
Edge will probably come in at £699 for 64gb which is crazy even though it looks fantastic.
having said all that I'm really pleased spammy finally moved away from crappy plastic which was really costing them just one more major change required get rid of TW and possibly amoled and try lcd.

Apparently the base model for the UK is going to be the 64gb model so I don't know how this will affect the pricing which has not been confirmed anywhere . If you go on the Samsung UK site they only have 64gb and 128gb listed .

This will save dumb buyers from buying too small of a memory size.

Sounds like the s5 is perfect for you! No need to buy another phone....unless you're one of the "sheep" that believes you MUST upgrade every year.
The unibody design is the only real difference over the s5. A faster processor that you won't notice unless you use an app to tell you how fast it is, and some minor software tweaks. The good news is, you already have the phone to fit your needs!
Can't please everyone. The number if people crying about a removable battery is small compared to the ones who don't care. Samsung s6 sales will be through the roof with this new design...then what argument will you guys make? Keep your current phone, problem solved.

I've had multiple microSD cards. 16GB, 64GB, and now 128GB. In 3-4 years of service, swapped between 3 Samsung phones, the 64GB only became flaky once, disconnecting every once in a while. So I had it warrantied. I still retained all my data. Total cost of the cards is still less than I would be paying with a phone that essentially loses value in 1 year. And yes, Android did make it harder to use external SD, but they fixed most of that in Lollipop. It is still fine for multimedia.
Cloud storage is NOT an option. 1.) Cloud storage is slow depending on where you are. My T-Mobile phone drops from LTE to 4G for no apparent reasons sometimes. Plus, when I'm in the air, on the subway, etc, I have no service. So for me to want to watch a 2GB 1080P movie during those time from "cloud storage" is impossible. 2.) Cloud storage costs a month fee as well as has a cap on file size. Have a 8GB 1080p MKV movie.. too bad.. can't store it on your cloud provider.
I don't want a cell phone case with an extended battery in it. The whole point of having a newer phone is a smaller size. As for taking the phone apart to change the battery... No..

The POINT of this post is to go on record so hopefully someone from Samsung can see it, and realize that they are hurting their fan base. There are now dozens of articles now talking about this, but without giving it a voice from individuals, Samsung may continue down this path. I still don't find this explanation acceptable. Especially using 4K, the internal memory will be filled. If I was going out for a day and shooting videos, I would love to have the option of shooting 4K to my internal and moving these videos to my external card as my internal filled. And normal users will not have a problem understanding why the memory is slower as not every normal user would buy an external memory. And those that do, can have a simple pop up on the screen when the phone sees the memory that states that there may be issues or slowness due to this memory.

I've had the device for 3 days now, and so far I can tell you this is hands down the best phone i have ever had the pleasure of using. I've been with HTC for almost 8 years now, starting with the Evo, then Evo 3D, then HTC One M7. I got fed up with their camera which ultimately made me switch to S6.
I got the black 32GB T-mobile model, and the phone is gorgeous. Build quality is exceptional and feels very solid in my hand. Everything is snappy and responsive. The fingerprint scanner works great, the screen is amazing, and battery life seems reasonable. It's hard to say how the batter will hold up in real world scenarios, since i can't leave the thing sitting for more than 5 minutes right now before i want to look at my new toy again. With extremely heavy use, I've been making it until about 7:00 PM before having to plug it back in.
Being an XDA fanboy, i rooted my phone the moment i got it and removed a lot of the bloatware. T-Mobile did not go overboard with bloatware, but being on custom ROMs for years makes any bloatware make my skin crawl. I was able to root it in minutes, load up Titanium, remove all the unwanted stuff, reboot...and am happy to say i am getting zero FC issues or any other issues for that matter.
The ONLY thing i can say i miss with this phone is the front facing stereo speakers from my HTC One. There's no question that those were better speakers than what the S6 has. Don't get me wrong though, the S6 speaker is sufficiently loud, it just lacks the depth of sound that my HTC One had. This is a sacrifice i will make with open arms though, given the near perfection this device has shown me so far.
In short, GET THIS PHONE! You won't regret it.

So after you rooted the device, I assume you ticked the Knox.
Is it still possible to use the Samsung Pay feature?
Forgive me for asking, but with the slimmed down TW,
what are the perks of rooting except full backups, titanium backup, custom roms and Xposed yet doesn't work on Samsung lollipop?
If you would answer, that would be much appreciated! I bought the device but sue to the easter holidays in Denmark, I will get it late next week! I would gladly leave my impressions , but for now, if you could help me with the possible Samsung Pay root issue, that would be great!

In my opinion, Samsung has taken several steps backwards. No water resistance, no memory card and no replaceable battery. All three of these omissions are important to me. I'll just keep my S5 until Samsung sees fit to add these features back in a future version.
Apparently they think Apple has good ideas.

They found that less than one per cent actually use the battery swapping or expandable memory.

Well, Apple sells tens of millions of device agains a premium price. And it works for them, so SS would be stupid not to try to follow their footsteps.
This phone is what so many people where asking for. A good looking. premium built phone that you can show of to your friends for its looks, not its features.
Then again, all those premium materials go wasted as everybody buys a butt ugly case to protect those premium materials.... :silly:

That's a good point. My Spigen tough armor case hides most everything except the screen. What kind of case will protect the Edge model? I'm kind of a butter fingers and I won't carry an expensive phone in my pocket without a good protective case.
I'm still thinking if I should buy a case or not. From my experience, I've never needed one, seen from how long my iPhone 4 lasted. During the time I had it I went out almost every day, most of those days to drink in a bar or at a club, and despite dropping it quite a few times, those particular drops didn't break the glass. The metal sides got dented but that was about it. It's probably because most of the places I go through have smooth floors / carpets and the only times I slapped on a case was when I went hiking or something "adventurous". My iPhone 4 finally died though when my drunk friend grabbed it from me and ran towards the stairs of the club we were at. He stretched out his hand to prevent me from taking it from me and successfully dropped it 3 floors down. Good thing it was almost 4am and the crowd was thinning out so it didn't land on anybody's head (and based on how the iPhone 4 was the first "cement block" phone, that was a huge relief).
My iPhone 4 lived that long despite all it experienced so I'm sure that the S6 Edge, with it's reviews and drop tests will come out of the same experiences more unscathed compared to my iPhone 4.
That being said, I have still been researching on cases and so far I'll either buy a Speck or Ringke case.
... I can't even begin to share how excited I am to get my S6 Edge though. I never thought a Samsung phone would ever catch my eye (which was surprising since I find their TVs / monitors sexy as hell) but I'm sure glad that changed. The last time I got this excited for a phone was when the iPhone 4 was launched.

Since you have root, could you try installing something like v4a and let us know how it works please? Does it bug out? Im big on audio (which is why I got the M7, for its awesome audio mods) and really hoping to jump back on the Samsung ship with the S6.
After using an S4 before my M7, I'm a little cautious about Samsung though. Unlike HTC or Moto (Personal experience), their devices usually dont make it the long term, both in terms of hardware and software, so Im hoping Sammy fixed all these with the S6. Will definitely miss the Boomsound speakers, but the M9 seriously disappointed me this time

So by this reasoning, sales and profit margins do not equal a good product. You've just explained why I won't be buying an S6, or an iPhone.
I don't really think people are wanting this, they are just ignorant of smartphones. If they only knew what they could have in their hands.. Like the guy driving the Ford GT around town going 5 under the speed limit, never reaching 3,000 RPM.

Otherwise LCD would've been DEAD years ago, but no, Plasma dies because the profit margins are lower and people want 'LED tv's because they are the best'.
If you, being a manufacturer notice that your competitor sells 5x more than you having a product that doesn't make sense or isn't the best you can get out there you start thinking how you can get sales up to that level. If you have to create a product with a few concessions then so be it.
In this case YOU care about a removable battery and SD. I've NEVER replaced my battery in 6 years. And I use an SD because I've a 16GB phone. The only reason why I would need a removable battery is after my phone freezes up yet again trying out some custom rom
The same goes for the GT driver, he might just have bought the car for its looks or status.

Yes, I am agreeing with you about buying for looks and what manufacturers cater to. But I am posting this in a review thread on a site filled with people who use their phones as they were made to be used. I think they will see what Samsung is obviously doing and be turned off by that. Maybe not, though. Marketing and public opinion is very powerful and even the sharpest sometimes fall into those traps.
What's even better about their tactics is that they offer a larger internal memory at the utmost premium price, like Apple does. This is just a terrific business practice, as you want to make a product that is marketable and easily replaced, as well as forcing people into higher price bracket. I do not blame Samsung for trying to turn a profit, I just am disappointed with their product which is not aimed at the vertical I am in.

And I know we all hate apple..but don't be silly. Of course their ideas work. You don't become the most profitable company in the world because you're making bad choices lol
Apple phones are great, the OS feels like it's from the seventies but the the smoothness is something I wish Samsung could copy more. My iPhone is mostly taking up space in a box though

Just something that annoys me, feel like talking about it.
My contract with my mobile provider is over and I can now choose a new contract with a phone
I own a LG G3 since may 2014. I swapped my G2 for the G3 just because of the external SD. Other changes were minimal, but the SD was a must for me.
Now normally you would be happy when your contract is over and you get to choose a new phone, but honestly I'm disappointed. The G3 is a great phone, works very well and has all things one can expect in a todays flagship phones.
Smartphone innovation has stopped. What do the new "flagships" even have to offer that would improve smartphone use? It feels like they desperatly try to make up new things like ow lets add another GB of RAM. Make the phone bigger so there's more room for that extra GB, make it look a little different and sell it as the next big thing.
Right now I feel like waiting till they release new phones like idk the S7 or G5, but honestly there's absolutely no need for a newer phone.
What do you guys think?
Im gonna switch back to iphone ..durability is outstanding and way better than my g3 ..also I have to order a new camera lens due to scratching screen 10$ not a big deal but hey ...also this lag get me to a point of no return ..

With the amount of smashed screens I've seen on iPhones. I'd say durability is outstandingly bad.

I think that's a really interesting point. Just got my HTC One M7 back to work to fiddle around with it a little bit and it performs sooo well even compared to my G3 (that's running AOSP). There is a Full HD screen and an all metal body - pretty much standard by now for many OEMs. 2013 was in general a major step forward in the smartphone territory, the last 2 waves of flagship were not even close to being so game-changing.

exactly. It's like they're out of innovation. It seems main points of smartphone innovation used to be better screens, faster processor for a smoother and faster user experience and thinner body. But it seems those points are perfected in some way. Higher resolution screens wouldn't do any good. The used software is fast enough and gets all the processing power it needs. Overall graphics are awesome. GPU power can always be improved ofcourse but c'mon who even wants to play call of duty or fallout 4 on a smartphone. And phones are thin enough. Only innovation on battery power would make a significant difference, but that requires entire new technology which isn't developed yet.
At this point smartphones are handheld computers as well as telecommunications devices. What is new in computers from year to year? Hardware. So what do you get with a new laptop this year vs one from last year? faster processors, more memory, SSDs are so 2 years ago, touchscreens more so, Phones, like computers, for the most part 2 year old computers are still working fine so sure, you can get along just fine with a 1 or 2 year old phone. Hardware is in control of the manufacturer, software provided by Google...so new phones from year to year will have better cameras, more RAM, more storage, faster processors, and with new developments in display technology, will be more durable (providing some manufacturers finally drop the idea of glass encased cases..SMH).
Well its kinda off topic but the new Windows mobile with its continuüm is a innovation ithink and a Iris scanner.
But for Android not so much ithink?
well, from my point of view the things i say:
If you are a geek, if you like to be "on top of tecnology" is obvious you want the newer phones, the most talked in the moment but you have a price for that and if you dont care about so go ahead!
If you are satisfied with your device and dont care about evolution, newer things and think "well, is all the same but only with 2 or 3 things different" then i say: stick with your actual phone!
- All depends of your need's or your brain! For me i dont care about better or worst, i have a G3, i love the device and i will keep it as long as i can, and now i will buy a G Flex2 just because the curvature and for SD810 (i know is a problematic processor but i dont care, i want to try it!) and for the experience to have a curved screen! For me LG are my thing, i cant move to other brand, and if you see my history with phones you know i am a LG and Sony user. I dont go for Sony anymore because they dont do it so well as LG does.

I like the UI of LG, i cant live without IR Blaster now, is so usefull and because my job is eletronics, i work a lot with TV's, STB's and other things and have a IR Blaster to keep me away for the Remotes and have a phone to do that things is a must for me!
It's my opinion, and i will go for G Flex2 because theyr ridiculous price right now (i can order it for 260€ ~280$) and for the hardware they offer worth a lot the price!
I dont go for apple products because i think they dont worth the price they want for theyr products, i think is a steal to consumers because every year they launch a different one with 1 or 2 things different but the apple users brain says "i have to get the last because i am on top of the tecnologic world" - shut up guy's iphone's is only for status, i cant see other thing from people who buy that thing!
If anyone give me one iphone i sell it as fast i could and for the price i get for it i will buy 2 LG phones, and with better specs...and for sure i will keep the change!

Well, I am a tech guy, and I have always wanted the best. Not just with technology, but also with musical instruments(i'm a musician). I need to have the best guitar, I need to have the best amplifier, I need to have the best pc, graphics card, and ofcourse phone. I have always had the latest flagships since smartphones became a thing. But now it doesn't feel like that. I would need to spend some extra money on my new contract and pay about €200 intitial costs, but for the first time it feels like it's not worth it, but the "need for the best" is still there, believe me

yeah i'm not talking about apple. Apple is out of the question. Extremely overpriced, retarded company charging 100 extra for extra storage, purposely excluding a 32gb version. Breaks to easy and is build to last 2 years. There are always battery problems, which can not be removed ofcourse because, you know, **** you, you don't get a removable battery or SD slot, or the possability to replace parts. Need a new screen?, better buy a whole new phone. My parents actually got the advice to buy a new ipad when their new one didn't start anymore. When I got it in my hands, I pushed some buttons and it seemed it was only in recovery mode.

ok, now i get cleared about what you want! well...all depends of the offer your network offers, if you want a update better wait 1 or 2 months because V10 is out there and some networks will have it, or wait more and get the G5 wich i can tell is the bomb for the new year, i belive SD820 be inside it!
honestly i think smart phones have hit that 'ceiling' in evolution, same way dumb phones have hit the ceiling right before the iphones changed up everything (didnt really change but more like pivot in a different direction with more overhead evolution).
Manufacturers can stick in better spec processors, ram, storage etc.. but as long as people feel they have everything that they need currently, then we're stuck in a loop until convinces us otherwise.

seriously dude? i owned iphone, not the latest one like iphone 6, 6+ and 6Sh*t + Rose Gold..
it's just Black Coloured iPhone5S and i use it for my second number..
here's my own review in term of PERFORMANCE and DURABILITY
yes, iphone is a real lag-free devices, the software is real outstanding !
it's worth to pay for that ( iOS ) but unfornately the iphones not even great in term of durability
my iphone crack it screen twice in my pockets! LOL.. maybe my jeans is too tight i guess..
so i replaced it twice and already waste around $200 for that S*tty Screen.
and in terms of BATTERY LIFE and CAMERA
my iPhone is worser than my G3 ( avg 14 hours ) or my Xperia ZL ( avg 8 hours ) or maybe Lenovo A889 ( avg Almost a day )!
Please take note that i'm not a heavy user, enough for socialing and clash of clans only.
for camera, both doing great job ( flawless result ) but extra score for G3 with additional support for 4K video, OIS and RAW with XCam.
Don't Forget! G3 also have front facing flash too.. so i wouldn't need the iPhone 6Sh*t for an upgrade..
As conclusion, iphone easy to use in one hand while android is real fun to use.. NO JOKE!
but it's customizable.. even jailbroken iphone can't be customized too much.. still boring
what i can say, it's your choice.. and this is my opinion.. bear in mind that nothing is perfect
everything made has it's own pro's and cons depend on what purpose do you use it for..

I definitely agree with you on the fact that these recent phones have just been disappointing. I was itching to buy the 6p when I heard about it, but then when I realized they removed external battery and SD card that was my deal breaker. It's really sad that our contracts can expire and we can still prefer our current phones, but I have hope that we'll see some amazing stuff in the next few years. I'm currently in love with my g3, and the only thing that'll take it away from me is an equal device with a fingerprint scanner.
However, right now seems to be the year of software. We're getting an amazing update compared to our lollipop experiences, and google is really refining itself.

I kept it for 11 months, but i could never get used to the lag and choppy animations, it just hurt my eyes. I liked the camera though. Recently i sold it and switched back to my nexus 5, and i cannot describe enough how silky smooth it is on Marshmallow, every transition animation, every action, it's just a pleasure to use, despite being a 2 year old phone.
For me, the only candidate for a possible upgrade would be the nexus 6P, but i might as well just skip this generation and wait for a 2016 stock android flagship.
I'm not returning to laggy phones anymore.

I experienced lag aswell when the 5.0 update was released. After the first update this problem was solved for me. Also some advice or just a little trick idk, I also turn off some animations or speed them up in the developer mode menu in order to make things a bit quicker and possibly less laggy. When this is done the phones feels faster.
Right now I'm waiting for the 2016 releases aswell. We'll see what LG or maybe samsung has to offer coming year.

I have been trying to figure out what my next phone will be, and dreading the possibility of having to crawl back to apple. My choice is through my company. It's either a samsung, a blackberry, or an iphone. I currently am still on the s5. If they truly do bring back the micro SD on the s7, I cannot wait to be a happy owner. If not, I am torn. The rumor of the MicroSD slot returning is definitely one that caught my interest. Plus the fact that they are supposed to be working with Google to improve TouchWiz makes things sound even better. I am interested in the S7 with al the rumors going around, but I still want to see what the other companies have to offer before I make my choice.
Given my choices, the decision will be easy, assuming the micro sd card returns. I personally would also love to see the return of remove-able battery, but I can live without that. Whatever phone I wind up with, is going to go right into a protective case, so the solidness and elegance of the build is of little importance. Nice, but for me, form is trumped by function. The S6 was too much of an iPhone wannabe. I'd rather get an iPhone. The ability to expand storage on a phone that is also highly customizable, that is what I love about my S5. It is like having a phone that is also a highly powerful computer. I can sync with my home pc remotely, pull files over to myself, etc. These are features you lose with iPhone without jailbreak, but there are things IPhone does better than Samsung. It would be a real toss up. The return of the sd feature alone, would make my decision for me.
Well, the choices you have right now make the S7 an easy choice, but remember this is a new year and therefor new phones from other companies later on. With the Snapdragon 820 in effect now I rather wait a few months to see what happens even though I do like the way the S7 is looking.
Yeah, despite how much I hate the idea of a phone without replaceable battery, if the S7 comes with SD, that will probably be enough to upgrade from my S4, which is actually still plugging along nicely. I was all set to get an S6 until it was released, but losing both battery & storage cost them a sale.
I'm really leaning towards the S7 if they have the return of the sdcard slot. I'm currently using the Note 4. But I also want to see what the Note 6 has in store as well. If they do indeed decide to put back in the sdcard and have better battery life then I"m all in. But thats almost 7 months away, not sure if I can hold off that long...lol.

I will wait to see what note 6 brings. I still keep my note 4. I can't justify "upgrade" to phone without sd card, non removable battery, lack of infrared port and hdmi out. All those features I regularly use

So true. Who cares how the phone looks. It is nice to have a slim, aesthetically appealing phone, but I would take an extra mm or 2 thickness for an extra 300-500ma on the battery any day, and having a remove-able battery is important when your phone crashes and you need to completely shut the thing off. Function trumps form, though form can be cool, just know that a case is going to minimize the cool day 1.
On my S5, when it occasionally crashes, holding down the power button for 7 seconds does nothing for me. I have to remove the battery to shut the dang thing completely off. I am curious if this is also true on the S6, and if so, what they heck users do when their phone crashes? Wait out the battery drain?
Return of SD Card is crucial. My company pays for the minimum phone, and don't allow us to chip in for upgrades, which means if I want to use a company phone (free phone), I am stuck using the lowest storage option. 32gb ain't going to cut it. Removable battery would be nice, but not a deal breaker. Return of Waterproof would be killer as well, again, not a deal breaker. When I search leaked features on the web, it seems as though return of sd card is a done deal, though I cannot find an original source. Anyone know if this is true? Fingers crossed...
I've seen many rumors about SD, but there's a good chance we won't know until the official announcement. I can grudgingly accept the battery situation, but unless they offer a 256GB variant, lacking SD will be a deal killer for me.

More excited about waterproofing coming back, micro sd is icing on the cake. Reason I didn't give up my S5, one its rooted and running custom rom and runs smooth and slick, but loved the water resistance, even taken vids and pics underwater and they actually come out real nice lol.

There is not even a remote chance of that happening.
It's almost certain according to leaks that Edge will have 3600mAh, regular S7 will have 3000mAh.
Any way to estimate if the Edge with the larger battery (and larger screen) will have significantly better battery life than the S7 with its 3000mAh and smaller screen?
If the Edge was say 20% longer, I'd consider trying it out. Don't love phablets, but do love battery life.
I think SD card expansion option really needs to be considered. Modular design is way to go.

Batterylife on Edge will be better in standby, simply because of larger batteries. But in benchmark tests which only checks on-screen time, they will be neck-in-neck.
Batterylife (if everything else remains equal) is dependent surface area of display.
Area ratio = (5.5/5.1)^2 = 1.16
Battery ratio = 3600/3000 = 1.20
Edge version will give you better standby, in actual usage, on-screen batterylife will be almost same.
All variants of the device are said to come housed in a black frame, with a choice of black, white, silver or gold finishings, and the disagreeable camera bump is apparently now gone from the rear of the device.

It's not a rumor. It's 100% true. I got to play with one for a few minutes this week. It's a slick little device, a noted evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, improvement over the S6.

What rumor of a 4500mAh battery? I have never once heard that, and there's no way in hell they'd almost double the battery size.
Its 3500 on S7 Edge version, 3000 on S7
