Any Nexus 4 owners have/had Lumia 920? Thoughts?

I currently have both. I sold my GS3 when I picked up the Lumia 920 fully knowing I was going to order a Nexus 4. My plan was to compare the 2 and decide which one I wanted to keep. I am in a bit of a struggle there. Would love input from others that Have/had both.
My opinions:
Lumia 920
Pros:
Screen - Much more vivid and bright, but not overly saturated like that of GS3 etc... Also SEEMS bigger due to on screen buttons of Nexus 4
Battery life - I wasn't even coming close to using up the battery in a day with the Lumia. WIth the Nexus I can make it through a day, but definitely not as good.
Feel - The Lumia feels very solid in your hands. The weight actually adds a good amount of feel to the phone as well, doesn't feel like a toy.
Camera - The camera on the Lumia is amazing (for a cell phone camera). Pictures are great quality and are taken with ease and fast.
OS - Windows Phone 8 is super smooth and does everything I need in a smartphone. It's newer to me, and so less boring.
Cons:
Apps - Very limited app selection. I knew this going in to WP8 and I honestly can't say it is missing anything I NEED, I guess this is more of a boredom filler thing.
No Dev - Again knew this coming in, and again a boredom filler more than anything
Nexus 4
Pros:
Dev - Not quite yet, but will have loads of custom tweaks/roms/etc to play with
App Selection - Not nearly as much as iOS but certainly more than WP8.
Call quality - I find the Nexus 4 to have AMAZING call quality (when it has a good signal)
OS - 4.2 on this phone is SUPER quick. No lag to speak of (for a change), but I do have to say I find Android kind of stale and old to me.
Cons:
Build Quality: While overall quality is great, phone feels solid, super light (debatable if that is a plus or not, I don't necessarily care for the toy feel) however the Phone has something that rattles when you shake it. Their is a constant buzz from the earpiece (can't be heard in call). The back is SUPER slippery, will slide off anything.
Signal - Overall signal is lower than the last 4-5 phones i have owned (based on signal at my house). Also when holding the phone in certain ways I can physically WATCH the signal drop down, then move my hand and watch it go back up.
Screen - Screen quality is fantastic, but the colors could use some life. I am not talking super saturated AMOLED style, but these are closer to HTC Dull IMO. The screen is just as usable in the sun test though, so it is bright!
Plenty more of each I will try to add when they come to mind, just wanted to post a few of my thoughts and see if anyone else had factors to add or their opinion (Please only post your opinion if you have had both phones to compare).
This is JUST my opinion. Please do not take my opinion on either phone as FACT or offensively. If you have a different opinion please share it (respectfully) and I am all ears. I am not posting this as a flame or to say either phone is bad or better than the other, in fact that is the decision I am stuck on. Both are AMAZING phones, so again please do not take either as a phone bash.

I'm pretty sure the rattling is the accelerometer. I don't hear the screeching at all...maybe mine is lucky.
WP8 is nice...I wouldn't judge the switch. The 920 has good build quality, too.
I don't think it's enough to pry me away from the openness of a Nexus.

You can buy two N4 for one N920.
The N920 Display is close to the N4. A little better than N4, but not as good as the fantastic OneX LCD2.
I'd also love to buy a Nokia again, but well.. N920.price > (N7.price + N4.price)

I've used a 920 and while it's an amazing piece of hardware, WP8 kills it for me.
I have none of the symptoms you described on your N4, no rattle, no buzzing from earpiece, or signal issues.
Overall, the determining factor will be first which ecosystem would you rather use, then which piece of hardware you want.
If WP8 is the answer to the first question then the 920 is the easiest choice, if it's Android and you aren't happy with the N4, look at the One X+, SGS 3, and Note 2.

I already own both. I paid the same price for both. both sell for roughly the same amount on ebay right now. So price is pretty much a wash.

I strongly disagree, having actually OWNED one, as well as many iOS and Android devices. Not that I think it's better than Android, but I definitely without question find it superior to iOS (to me).

I hate apple too just saying the success of it, i think windows phone sales compared to android are significantly lower, ita a failing sector in the phone market

You think the nexus 4 is light and toy like? This thing feels like a tank and feels very solid.

The point of Nexus 4's stock interface is for YOU to CUSTOMIZE FOR YOURSELF. If you prefer manufacturer to do that for you, you got the wrong device.

The Lumia is a flop. It's fat, overweight, and runs an OS with no apps.

I love my Nexus 4, a lot. BUT!!!!!! A friend of mine texted me about a week ago and told me he just got the lumia 920, he said its an AMAZING phone and he is blown away by it. ( he's a big android guy, matter of fact he got me to use android). Told me how the camera is amazing, the screen is insane and the fluidity is second to none. Also the predictive keyboard is excellent. THEN!!!! Today one of my coworker who is a big ISHEEP ( but a smart one lol) told me that one of his friend got the lumia and he told me the screen is just too good, he said he was super impressed by it although he said he doesn't like W8. So now I'm gonna get it as secondary phone for sure. Nexus 4 will still be my main phone.

I have both, and what I can say about the 920 is what I'd say when owning an iPhone too (swapped out a 4s for it): I can handle WP8 & iOS because they're always secondary to Android for me. Exclusively I'd struggle with either, mainly due to lack of apps in WP8, and quite a bit overall in iOS. (The app quality in WP8 isn't poor, it's just the lack of a few are killing me, ie TuneIn - that one damn Swiss station...)
As a second device for me, the Lumia has battery for days - 26h off charger with moderate use the other day and it was at 60% - is built like some concoction designed to protect a tank, and the camera is advanced. Plus it's a simple, well-designed, incredibly smooth, handsome OS which focuses on productivity. And truthfully, for times when I don't need two phones, I often want one I'm inclined to use looking at the screen less - that's the 920. More a tool to the toy, in ways, that is Android for me personally. When I got the 920 I was planning on doing the same as the OP, choosing one, and I went with the 920 initially because I didn't want to be fiddling around with the N4, taking time to flash ROMs, research which kernel is best, figure out why this minor tweak has suddenly borked my entire mobile life, etc, when I'm supposed to be achieving productivity on the level of a respectable member of society. Then I got the N4 in my hands. Phenomenal piece. Not a chance that was going back. When I switch from one to the other, the Lumia feels slow in comparison, almost labored; and that's no slight on it, merely a compliment to the N4's screaming speed. So now it's both.
But in terms of real world use - and I live in a big city - the Lumia gets more day-to-day action for me, in part because I don't have a case for the N4 yet, and I'm terrified of flopping it out of my jacket pocket watching the shards spill across the pavement. I don't baby it, and it's just easier to put somewhere and not worry whether or not the 0.5 degrees of incline is going to send the lubricated glass back hurtling to the floor. I don't worry about the 920. I do about the N4. I also get concerned if I'm out somewhere and the battery is going to die, so I baby the use of my phone under these circumstances; will happen with the N4, won't with the 920. For me, the Lumia sort of ticks a "peace of mind" box. I can throw it in my pocket off the charger and walk out the door, not wondering if it'll last through the night or whether or not it might slap up against something on the subway and shatter, etc.
If it was one or the other and I had both in my hands for a few hours before having to give one back, it'd be no contest: the N4, if my initial concerns about the battery are substantial. I think it's a device of remarkably more potential with a wider variety of uses. However, I think the question to ask is not necessarily which phone is better, but which one best fits your life? People use their devices differently.
For the record, I love having both. Couldn't be happier; what the Nexus 4 gives me - the power, speed, apps, customization, etc. - is complemented perfectly by the 920's strengths - battery, camera, durability, simplicity, LTE, etc. As a pairing of phones, and I've owned a lot of different pairings, this is by far my favorite, and one I'll keep a very long time - which is rare. They're almost the perfect complements in my world. Now if someone could take the best of all these traits and make one single device, they could sell it for four figures on contract and watch the lines on release day stretch counties.

Second of all, I am sorry I put your panties in a bunch that I find Android getting stale FOR ME, it's my opinion. Get over it.
I never said anything about not wanting to customize the interface, The main reason I even like Android is the ability to load custom roms and tweak things myself. I never said otherwise.
When you have something valid to add come back.

Great info thank you. Your thoughts are very similar to my take. I just don't know that I can justify having 2 devices, so I am trying to make a choice that has turned out to be harder than I thought it would be

I don't know what you mean by stale. If you like the ability to load custom ROMs, but complain when you have the most moddable Nexus line in your hand, you have some serious problems buddy. If you have some deeply locked down devices then your complain might be valid.
Apparently you never used a Windows Phone before so you feel fresh. I will see how you comment on your Windows Phone after the "honey moon" period is over.
Also, when you post your opinion publicly but don't expect others to comment on it (valid or not), good for you!

I mean I have just gotten kind of bored with Android, as in its the SSDD for me. It's not like I haven't owned a few. It's not meant to be offensive to Android, this is a personal problem lol.
My last windows phone is the first on my sig . Been a long time. I had no interest in it when WP7 came out compared to Android but now that I have had Android for a while I picked it up just to try it out and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it runs and functions.
I am not looking for help with either, nor do I expect everyone to see my point of view. All opinions (when stated as such, and not argumentative or stated like it is fact) are very much welcome.
I am not a fanboy of any company OR Operating System, mobile or desktop. I try them all, and I pick what I find the best for ME at the time. I will never understand why some people find the need to attach themselves to one option but to each their own. When it comes down to it, neither of these phones will be in my possession for more than a few months until I get bored with them.
I was just curious what others thought, nothing more, nothing less.
And you may be very well correct on the honeymoon period statement. Part of the enticement to the Lumia IS that WP8 is new to me.(hardware aside) but I will grow bored with it in no time, no doubt.
I fully respect anyone who comes in here with the opinion that I am crazy/stupid/etc for even considering the Lumia over the Nexus, that is fine. I would appreciate some opinions/facts on why, and not fiction about how bad WP8 is (especially if you have never owned one, or at least spent some time with one).

if the n4 was closer in price to the 920 it would be a much harder decision. but it isn't. so it isn't. for what you get for your £279, n4 wins hands down.

Well i had android for many years.. but ... it never feels like its it, dont know how to say it.
I have a Lumia 920 now and its bloody awesome, so smooth, never lags, and the appstore is getting bigger everyday.
All my apps i used on Android are in the WP store for me.
Dont get me wrong Android is a great OS, but the changes in versions never live quite up to it.

HTC - Is it really worth it?

Hi folks,
Having been an owner of many HTC's, I just wanted your advice as to whether or not you think it's worth purchasing the HTC One?
I had the One X and wasn't that impressed and ended up selling it and going for the S3, which I like, despite the numerous S-Apps which I never use :/
Anyway, I'm due an upgrade and can't decide what to go for.
HTC One (looks good)
iPhone 5 (I know the 5s or 6 will be out come Sept, but at least iPhone's sell for more on eBay should I want to sell my phone and buy a new one)
Samsung Galaxy S4 (lots of new functions)
I really want to like the HTC One, but the mediocre camera is putting me off :/

It's the best phone I've ever had and my timeline goes; iPhone 3GS, HTC Sensation, S2, Note.
The speakers and build quality are second to none + it's lightening quick

if you like your s3 then it makes sense that you will like s4 too, its just the same, only improved.
having said that, i wouldn't rule out the One based on the fact that you didn't like the One X - as I'm sure you have seen, HTC pretty much went back to the drawing board in every single area.
try both.
EDIT. is it worth it? absolutely yes.

i'd go with the gs4. it offers much more than the one and is also faster, with better battery life, and sd card support. I won't even mention the barometer and thermometer lol. But if you like aluminum, go with the one. I personally think the GS4 looks much more minimal and sleeker than the one.

Come on.... That is TOTALLY your opinion.
The guy is trying to make a decision so saying stuff like that as if it is fact is not needed.
Faster / battery life is also not completely known.
Stick to the facts in future.

Those are just the things you want a phone needs too have.. Sd card.
The battery is only 300 mah larger then the one but itll definitely has too deal with the software that runs on the phone. So no, the S4 doesnt has a better battery life and yes it has a largerbattery. But it depends on the software.

If like me - and as you have that you dont use the s-functions on the S3, then the S4 has no real advantage over the One, it's just going to be more of the same and a UI that hasnt really changed for years and has apparently take a step back to Froyo.
Iphone 5 - yep good phone, if you want just a phone.

Why yes... Mercedes C class and BMW 3 series do look much sleeker and minimalistic as compared to a Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Aventador.

Yes, the HTC One is definitely a contender in the slew of smartphones that will be available in 2013. I would suggest looking at the features and reviews of the various phones to find one that will completely suit your needs. Every phone will have pros and cons for different people.
For example, if you're looking at solely camera functions, HTC One will definitely perform better in low light, compared to SGS4 and iPhone 5 cameras. If that is something you look for in a camera, then you should more seriously consider the One. If you want a better all-around camera and don't need or want low-light features, then you should look into other phones.
It's really difficult for anybody to tell you whether the One is worth it for you. Depends 100% on what you look for in a phone, which is different than what the next person wants in their phone.

The camera is not mediocre but pretty good. If camera is the most important aspect of a phone to you then do your research properly. Try both out, however HTC one is the best phone out there performance is top notch second to none.
Most who own it or tried it have recommended it.

I tried the HTC One the other day, because i am still debating whether or not to go with that or the S4.
It has a luxurious feeling(htc one) but for me, the way it layed in my hand wasn't totally awesome, then again, never had an aluminum phone.
I find the camera very much overrated, being made up to be the "new shizzle" deffo, but this is the first generation of the new shizzle and i am not all to impressed with quality.
The major turn off for me was the position of the power button, it feels awkward in the top, but then again, might just be me being used to it sitting on the side of it.
Imo though, don't just go with what looks pretty but runs well, a cover can do much to the cheap feeling of the samsung, i know i am getting one on mine, if i decide for the S4

Theres a lot of ways if you find out you dont like the phone.
asking this sort of question in a device specific forum will give you 90% positive answers to your question and 10% honest ones.
working on the fact that we are easily swayed as people..the 90% will get your attention and the honest ones will be 'thanks but theres more positive comments than yours' type scenario

To be honest, all I use my phone for is Facebook, watching vids on youtube, taking photos (generally for Facebook). I try not to use it for calls, but people keep phoning me
I'm not entirely sure by the whole 'low light' photo thing as I usually just turn the flash on if it's dark
I like the look of the blink feed on the One too. Looks quite nice and it's about time they updated some if their stuff.
I just hope I don't sign up for the One, and in 2 weeks time the OneA is announce with an 8 Ultapixel camera, because that's part of the reason I gave up with HTC. Too much of the same thing when they should just concentrate on one very good device :banghead:

Several reviewers has made test over a few days or so, where the samsung genereally pulled ahead with round about 1/3 more battery life, which is alot, but well that depends on what they used it for really, it has a lot to do with software, so when the HTC One gets updated to 4.2.2 it might be fixed (one can hope)

HTC One is better IMHO.
Better screen, better materials.
Battery is bigger on the S4 so it should perform better - wooppy-effin-doo.
Performance wise there is not much of a difference and not enough to be a deal breaker for anyone on the fence.

I like the look of the blink feed on the One too. Looks quite nice and it's about time they updated some if their stuff.
I just hope I don't sign up for the One, and in 2 weeks time the OneA is announce with an 8 Ultapixel camera, because that's part of the reason I gave up with HTC. Too much of the same thing when they should just concentrate on one very good device :banghead:

If you use it just for that, well i wouldn't upgrade, it's a better quality photo, but that is just about it what you get with a brighter screen

Several factors to choose this or that phone..
Build quality comes first for me not power. Is why i never owned Samsung phones and stuck to HTC. HTC feel solid, despite the dust under the screen issue they had.
SD or no SD.. To me is not important.
Battery life depends on what power the phone packs.. and also what ROM you put in it if you choose to S=Off and offcourse Dev support
...camera.. if it is important.
I have little hopes for next iPhone.. They fooled me once already upgrading from 4 to 4S a while back which i regretted. I wouldn´t even get the 5 if i knew otherwise. Personally im done with iOS, the iPhones bore the hell out of me.. even when jailbroken.. besides i have an iPad.

Samsung really did the Note Edge (owners) no favors...

First of all let me make it clear I. Love. This. Phone. No question this is the best - functionality wise - phone I have had in more than 10 years. Because it is my daily driver and the attention grabber everywhere I went (until the S6 edge came out) I am even more disappointed/disturbed by Samsung treating the phone, and those that really like, as disposable.
Because Samsung billed this as a concept phone there is virtually ZERO real development for the edge panel since it was announced last September. The bad part is that Samsung themselves could have made useful panels but instead they dropped the ball. How many months more will we see that the panel store is "coming soon"? Instead of exploiting this feature and keeping us engaged it is now an exercise in futility hitting the download button to see the same panels or virtually useless ones that are not in a language you don't understand or is of zero use.
Then there s the ROM aspect. I used to do more flashing that Barry Allen back in the day. Have you seen the number of fully functional ROMS for this phone. It is slim to none. It seems Sammy's lack of passion to push the phone has pushed chefs to other devices. This is squarely on Samsung.
Lastly, I am an accessory fiend - admittedly. Finding GOOD accessories and add-on's to this phone have be like finding the Lost Ark of the Covenant. From buying 9 different screen protectors that promise to protect the actual edge - that don't or looking for a functional case almost everything is a chore or a serious waiting game. they have sucked the fun of really getting into this device - for me at least.
If this new article is to be believed they are even going to cut down on some of the specs from the Note 5 equivalent: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...ge-2-features-leaked/articleshow/47204012.cms. I will not believe it until I see it but I do not feel good about the next iteration of the phone either. When you consider that there is no removable battery in the S6 nor a micro slot either things do not look good.
If things go as the article states and I see that the marketing and exposure for the Note Edge 2 or anemic I will stick with what I have now. Again, I love this phone which makes the stagnant interaction on this board and in products tick me off more. This could have easily been avoided.

I totally agree with everything you have said. I was so excited about the Galaxy Edge announcement! A phone with two screens and great specs. I still love my phone but like you I am extremely disappointed at the lack of development for our devices. I too used to flash a new ROM every few weeks but I can't. I also can't believe Samsung took their eye of the ball and stopped giving us Edge owners (people who put faith in their 'concept' design)exclusives or even panels (which was promised).
I have made a few posts in the DEV section asking why we have so few ROMS/tweaks etc. Apparently it is to do with not having the source code..even though it has been released..so I'm not sure if this is the real reason etc

I kinda agree as well. This phone has been rather dissapointing to me. Not because of lack of potential but lack of support and development. This phone had the potential to be epic but it is now shadowed by the over hyped s6 edge. Oh well. Im guessing because the s6 edge has had a great bit of responsiveness and praise the next note edge will be better supported. I kinda am torn with the idea of a smaller screen but 5.5 is still a good size screen.

It's supposed to be a useful accessory. .... not a full blown new gadget.
When u look at it in that context it is incredible.
Just the
1) nightclock
2) edge board as the app tray
3) quicksetting shortcut functions
4) a second screen when dealing with quick functions such as music player etc
Are enough to make this worthwhile as adding tangible beneficial functionality.
Anything else is a bonus and won't really add much more utility. Yes it would be nice but won't add that much.

I'd bought this after some indecision as was pretty sure it wouldn't get developer support given the limited numbers. Took the plunge because the edge was just too enticing.
Couple of months on, am quite happy overall. The phone itself, as everyone agrees, is fantastic. Plus,
1. Lots of cases now, from flip to non flip. Range covers the edge as well as leaving it open.
2. Screen protectors have been a pain, especially the lack of glass ones. The plastic ones, however, do cover the full edge, and are quite smooth. You have to wait for a week or so for all the bubbles to vanish and the surface to really smoothen out, though.
3. ROMS are in short supply, but as if now, find it is responsive enough without too many tweaks. A lot of the mods for Note 4 work quite well, which eases the pain.
4. The Samsung panel store started well and then died out. But there are quite a few very useful productivity panels coming on play store now. I particularly like the quick settings and quick contacts ones. Still some shortage of content based feeds etc, but don't think that will be resolved.
So some minuses, but overall still very good. No thanks to Samsung, of course (which is the point of the OP, I suppose) ☺

1) I agree about the range of cases but prefer the a flip that covers the edge. ...
Imo the protection is more important than the visibility.... 99% of the time u need the edge only. ... there is no problem with leaving the flip open. Eg when using as a night clock.
2) I think screen protectors are pointless. ...especially if u have a flip case.
Any protector inevitably takes away from usability.

I agree to an extent with the op. I guess one of the things I am most disappointed about is that ever since lollipop came out for our edge phones, the main features that were HUGE turn on to the edge screen have been removed. Case in point, the camera button that was on the edge screen is now off to the side of the phone. Even what little they offered in the edge screen in kit Kat has been reduced even further with lollipop. I truly feel that as great as this phone is, I should have stayed with my note 4. The edge was seriously overhyped to bring us in and then dropped like raw egg on concrete.

I love love this phone. When I heard that S6 was to be edged both sides I was very disappointed in what they did to that generation. No removable battery and slot for SD card , I feel like I'm look I ng at a CrApple phone. If this is the way Samsung is going, I'll keep this phone till it dies and look elsewhere.

If u like playing around with ROMS etc... then don't buy it.
If u r not fussed by that sort of stuff. ... there isn't a better phone in the world.

I think that for the most part the disappointment comes at the hands of Samsung. sure, would I love for the battery to have been bigger and give me a solid 6 hours screen time...of course. but from form factor, wow factor, functionality standpoint this phone is awesome. I just feel that by abandoning it - at launch - they left a lot on the table.

I, personally, feel I got everything I expected and more. Especially from a superficial perspective. This phone turns heads -and go a few numbers for me :good: based on people not knowing what the heck it was. I actually got 6 people to buy the phone base on my conversation with them about all its features. With lollipop coming so late/ changing accustomed to features, the panel store sucking and limited to no development I can see how "overhyped" could be applied but for me its only from the standpoint that my expectation level was higher from a Samsung support and development standpoint.

Amen brother! I saw the S6 in silver and was impressed by the look of it. when I saw the emasculated features of the side panels the first thing I thought of was: they are going to do something monumentally horrible to the note edge 2. Then I read the article I posted. I have not rooted the phone because, for the most part, it is a beast out the box. But if you are going to make the screen smaller, no removable battery, no card slot and have continually crappy support and development then I will stick with what I have until something better comes along. The sad part is that I am REALLY brand loyal. If you treat me right I will get in line to hand you my money for what I believe is something worthy to be purchased. Samsung is really making me question them. Yes, the note 5 is probably going to be a beast but I really like the Note edge dangnabbit and want them to just do what's right by the people they sold the edge to.

I took the plunge cuz so many people who flashed it said it made the phone run faster. no such luck here and my battery drains faster. If I could un-do it I would. But everyone's experience is not the same.

In all honesty, the phone itself is awesome! I love the note edge. The problem is samsung development. They could have blown this to the moon and beyond, but it seems like they are trying to pull backon the edge screen. Even kitkat had more to offer than lollipop. The lollipop update has removed quite a bit of the edge screen features that made it so attractive to begin with.
I'd still buy the edge, but if they keep removing edge screen features, then id rather go back the note 4

As much as I hate to say it, this is no different from what Samsung has always done in the past. This is their business model. The sooner they can obsolete devices, the sooner they can sell more.
The amazing thing is that they get the device to the point where it works very well, with the bare minimum features and stability they can get away with, and then totally forget about the device. The Gear S on my wrist, the Note 10.1 2012 and 2014, the Note 2, all of these devices Samsung got to work, worked out the majority of bugs, and left them without looking back.
This is what they do. Sadly, you buy a Galaxy device for what it is now, not what it can become in the future. They are locking them down tighter so developers can't do anything anymore, and carriers are loving every moment of it.
I watched videos of Samsung's developer conference and it was sparse. No one wants to mess with their devices anymore, and sadly, people messing with their devices is what got them to where they are now. That is what's changed. Just like jailbreaking iPhones was huge early on but fizzled out after Apple started to sell more devices based on the eye catching features outweighing the desire for customizability, rooting and building custom roms is fizzling out as Samsung sells crocksh*ts of Galaxy devices that have three or four excellent features that keep people buying them blindly without caring about customization.
Blogs are ignoring these issues brought up by OP because they are being paid or coerced or conned by Samsung into glorifying everything about the S6, while actively ignoring the Note. "If we give you this tester device, you aren't allowed to talk negatively about any of our other devices, and are limited to saying X, Y or Z about those other devices."
Samsung knows that the Note is the BEST phablet, or really, it is the BEST Android phone out there. Hands down. I'm not saying that because I like it, I'm saying it because based upon the balance between features and price, it is number one.
I have a Nexus 6. It isn't all that it is cracked up to be, and I wonder whether that's because Google is slacking off. In any case, I bought the Nexus a few days ago, and I'm already done with it. It is clearly a baseline phone. Current roms have nothing but kernel mods, everyone is trying to make it more "buttery smooth," and Xposed has been trampled by Samsung's big boot.
So what's really going on? Is Samsung thinking they don't have to try so hard because no matter what any other manufacturers do, they won't be able to match Samsung's eye catching features? Look at LG's attempts. They are good, but not ground breaking.
In any case, Google and manufacturers are taking back our customizability from us, and forcing us into the iPhone model, while throwing out a bone here and there and acting like Android is still the customizable and open ecosystem it has always been.

Dude, the market moves a an absolutely blistering pace.. Before one device is even completed the tech inside of it is basically obsolete think of it from an research and development standpoint. They have to develop the best device they can, which I feel they do a damn good job at, so during the time of development they have to already be looking ahead to the next iteration of the same device. It's a giant cycle of constant improvement that takes time to design, to then develop, to implement it , and then market the **** out of it and in background the new device is already begun it's design and development process .. Samsung more so that not, delivers a top of the line device consistantly.. we here on xda tend to be more knowledgeable and more used to the tech than the average consumer whom maybe coming from some crap device to even a note 3 which would blow their mind not to mention the note 4 or edge. Come on Samsung is constantly smashing the competing oems in tech and design. Htc doesn't count because their internals are absolutely horrible, I don't care what it looks like because I know it's a pile of garbage. LG just looks at Samsung and then kangs the f out of them. Their ui is so twiz like it's not even funny. Except it runs like crap. Nice cams that's it. Samsung does a damn fine job in my opinion. Better than any other oem by miles. They aren't perfect, but they are still the best.

No one argues, it is the best of the tippity top phones on the market.. the argument is in the developement and lack of support. Its like buying a laptop in order to have adobe photoshop where ever you are, and then finding out that they will no longer offer adobe photoshop to that one model. And then you find out that the next model of the same laptop is getting adobe photoshop, office suite pro, 283tb of unlimited cloud storage, and a date with sofia vergara with a garanteed handjob.... tell me you wouldnt be just a lil upset.. lol

I've recently upgraded to lollipop and at first I hated it - made my phone run slow, hot, and the battery drained super fast. As much as I hated doing it, I did the dreaded factory reset and restore, painstakingly loading back on the hundreds of apps and settings. But so far it's been worth it and the phone feels snappier than before. I can't really comment on battery life yet but hopefully that will be better too.
As for negatives I don't like that you can't deactivate the lollipop style notifications as now when browsing YouTube the notifications cover the screen.
Regarding the camera, I actually prefer to have the shutter button on screen, as it's easier to hit and the position of my fingers mean that I know longer get a finger in the shot!

I really wish I saw this thread yesterday!!! I just came home with the Sprint variant and found this two minutes after I updated to Lollipop and rooted.. Are you serious? Did I just drop $800 on "THE BEST DEVICE SINCE SILICON WAS DISCOVERED!!" that is basically a Betamax player already?!? (showing my age with that reference..) If I read y'all correctly, I'm stuck with TouchWiz, I can't discover that perfect "unknown" little custom ROM to flash, and I basically ruined the eponymous Edge by upgrading from 4.4.4? Really? K.. deep breath...

Lollipop has killed the Edge. It was a great phone out of the box with Kit Kat. Although AT&T shoved the update down our throats, the community has come through with a downgrade. Development has been slow but im sure and hope itll come around. Its my daily driver and I am more content with smaller mods and full functionality over full blown customization.

Smartphones aren't getting better?

Hello fellow smartphone users,
Just something that annoys me, feel like talking about it.
My contract with my mobile provider is over and I can now choose a new contract with a phone
I own a LG G3 since may 2014. I swapped my G2 for the G3 just because of the external SD. Other changes were minimal, but the SD was a must for me.
Now normally you would be happy when your contract is over and you get to choose a new phone, but honestly I'm disappointed. The G3 is a great phone, works very well and has all things one can expect in a todays flagship phones.
Smartphone innovation has stopped. What do the new "flagships" even have to offer that would improve smartphone use? It feels like they desperatly try to make up new things like ow lets add another GB of RAM. Make the phone bigger so there's more room for that extra GB, make it look a little different and sell it as the next big thing.
Right now I feel like waiting till they release new phones like idk the S7 or G5, but honestly there's absolutely no need for a newer phone.
What do you guys think?

Im gonna switch back to iphone ..durability is outstanding and way better than my g3 ..also I have to order a new camera lens due to scratching screen 10$ not a big deal but hey ...also this lag get me to a point of no return ..

With the amount of smashed screens I've seen on iPhones. I'd say durability is outstandingly bad.

I think that's a really interesting point. Just got my HTC One M7 back to work to fiddle around with it a little bit and it performs sooo well even compared to my G3 (that's running AOSP). There is a Full HD screen and an all metal body - pretty much standard by now for many OEMs. 2013 was in general a major step forward in the smartphone territory, the last 2 waves of flagship were not even close to being so game-changing.

exactly. It's like they're out of innovation. It seems main points of smartphone innovation used to be better screens, faster processor for a smoother and faster user experience and thinner body. But it seems those points are perfected in some way. Higher resolution screens wouldn't do any good. The used software is fast enough and gets all the processing power it needs. Overall graphics are awesome. GPU power can always be improved ofcourse but c'mon who even wants to play call of duty or fallout 4 on a smartphone. And phones are thin enough. Only innovation on battery power would make a significant difference, but that requires entire new technology which isn't developed yet.

At this point smartphones are handheld computers as well as telecommunications devices. What is new in computers from year to year? Hardware. So what do you get with a new laptop this year vs one from last year? faster processors, more memory, SSDs are so 2 years ago, touchscreens more so, Phones, like computers, for the most part 2 year old computers are still working fine so sure, you can get along just fine with a 1 or 2 year old phone. Hardware is in control of the manufacturer, software provided by Google...so new phones from year to year will have better cameras, more RAM, more storage, faster processors, and with new developments in display technology, will be more durable (providing some manufacturers finally drop the idea of glass encased cases..SMH).

Well its kinda off topic but the new Windows mobile with its continuüm is a innovation ithink and a Iris scanner.
But for Android not so much ithink?

well, from my point of view the things i say:
If you are a geek, if you like to be "on top of tecnology" is obvious you want the newer phones, the most talked in the moment but you have a price for that and if you dont care about so go ahead!
If you are satisfied with your device and dont care about evolution, newer things and think "well, is all the same but only with 2 or 3 things different" then i say: stick with your actual phone!
- All depends of your need's or your brain! For me i dont care about better or worst, i have a G3, i love the device and i will keep it as long as i can, and now i will buy a G Flex2 just because the curvature and for SD810 (i know is a problematic processor but i dont care, i want to try it!) and for the experience to have a curved screen! For me LG are my thing, i cant move to other brand, and if you see my history with phones you know i am a LG and Sony user. I dont go for Sony anymore because they dont do it so well as LG does.
I love LG phones because i get in love with back keys, i cant live without them now, and get back to a phone without them is like to go to stone age!
I like the UI of LG, i cant live without IR Blaster now, is so usefull and because my job is eletronics, i work a lot with TV's, STB's and other things and have a IR Blaster to keep me away for the Remotes and have a phone to do that things is a must for me!
It's my opinion, and i will go for G Flex2 because theyr ridiculous price right now (i can order it for 260€ ~280$) and for the hardware they offer worth a lot the price!
I dont go for apple products because i think they dont worth the price they want for theyr products, i think is a steal to consumers because every year they launch a different one with 1 or 2 things different but the apple users brain says "i have to get the last because i am on top of the tecnologic world" - shut up guy's iphone's is only for status, i cant see other thing from people who buy that thing!
If anyone give me one iphone i sell it as fast i could and for the price i get for it i will buy 2 LG phones, and with better specs...and for sure i will keep the change!

Well, I am a tech guy, and I have always wanted the best. Not just with technology, but also with musical instruments(i'm a musician). I need to have the best guitar, I need to have the best amplifier, I need to have the best pc, graphics card, and ofcourse phone. I have always had the latest flagships since smartphones became a thing. But now it doesn't feel like that. I would need to spend some extra money on my new contract and pay about €200 intitial costs, but for the first time it feels like it's not worth it, but the "need for the best" is still there, believe me

yeah i'm not talking about apple. Apple is out of the question. Extremely overpriced, retarded company charging 100 extra for extra storage, purposely excluding a 32gb version. Breaks to easy and is build to last 2 years. There are always battery problems, which can not be removed ofcourse because, you know, **** you, you don't get a removable battery or SD slot, or the possability to replace parts. Need a new screen?, better buy a whole new phone. My parents actually got the advice to buy a new ipad when their new one didn't start anymore. When I got it in my hands, I pushed some buttons and it seemed it was only in recovery mode.

ok, now i get cleared about what you want! well...all depends of the offer your network offers, if you want a update better wait 1 or 2 months because V10 is out there and some networks will have it, or wait more and get the G5 wich i can tell is the bomb for the new year, i belive SD820 be inside it!

honestly i think smart phones have hit that 'ceiling' in evolution, same way dumb phones have hit the ceiling right before the iphones changed up everything (didnt really change but more like pivot in a different direction with more overhead evolution).
Manufacturers can stick in better spec processors, ram, storage etc.. but as long as people feel they have everything that they need currently, then we're stuck in a loop until convinces us otherwise.

seriously dude? i owned iphone, not the latest one like iphone 6, 6+ and 6Sh*t + Rose Gold..
it's just Black Coloured iPhone5S and i use it for my second number..
here's my own review in term of PERFORMANCE and DURABILITY
yes, iphone is a real lag-free devices, the software is real outstanding !
it's worth to pay for that ( iOS ) but unfornately the iphones not even great in term of durability
my iphone crack it screen twice in my pockets! LOL.. maybe my jeans is too tight i guess..
so i replaced it twice and already waste around $200 for that S*tty Screen.
and in terms of BATTERY LIFE and CAMERA
my iPhone is worser than my G3 ( avg 14 hours ) or my Xperia ZL ( avg 8 hours ) or maybe Lenovo A889 ( avg Almost a day )!
Please take note that i'm not a heavy user, enough for socialing and clash of clans only.
for camera, both doing great job ( flawless result ) but extra score for G3 with additional support for 4K video, OIS and RAW with XCam.
Don't Forget! G3 also have front facing flash too.. so i wouldn't need the iPhone 6Sh*t for an upgrade..
As conclusion, iphone easy to use in one hand while android is real fun to use.. NO JOKE!
but it's customizable.. even jailbroken iphone can't be customized too much.. still boring
what i can say, it's your choice.. and this is my opinion.. bear in mind that nothing is perfect
everything made has it's own pro's and cons depend on what purpose do you use it for..

I definitely agree with you on the fact that these recent phones have just been disappointing. I was itching to buy the 6p when I heard about it, but then when I realized they removed external battery and SD card that was my deal breaker. It's really sad that our contracts can expire and we can still prefer our current phones, but I have hope that we'll see some amazing stuff in the next few years. I'm currently in love with my g3, and the only thing that'll take it away from me is an equal device with a fingerprint scanner.
However, right now seems to be the year of software. We're getting an amazing update compared to our lollipop experiences, and google is really refining itself.

Coming from the last 4 generations of nexus phones, the G3 was my first non nexus in a while. I kept it for 11 months, but i could never get used to the lag and choppy animations, it just hurt my eyes. I liked the camera though. Recently i sold it and switched back to my nexus 5, and i cannot describe enough how silky smooth it is on Marshmallow, every transition animation, every action, it's just a pleasure to use, despite being a 2 year old phone.
For me, the only candidate for a possible upgrade would be the nexus 6P, but i might as well just skip this generation and wait for a 2016 stock android flagship.
I'm not returning to laggy phones anymore.

I experienced lag aswell when the 5.0 update was released. After the first update this problem was solved for me. Also some advice or just a little trick idk, I also turn off some animations or speed them up in the developer mode menu in order to make things a bit quicker and possibly less laggy. When this is done the phones feels faster.
Right now I'm waiting for the 2016 releases aswell. We'll see what LG or maybe samsung has to offer coming year.

Wait for pixel 2 or buy U11?

So I'm currently a T-Mobile subscriber which is normally awesome until they declined to carry the u11. I currently have an S8 but I really don't like the 18:9 display and the battery life can be a little underwhelming some days. So I'm currently itching to jump to another phone and my short list has me at the U11 and the rumored pixel 2. Part of me wants to drop that pretty penny for the U11 (especially the solar red), but buying unlocked is not cheap as we all know. I love the design, boomsound, audio, camera, and middle of the road on software (it does look admittedly dated), but I'm skeptical about the size of the phone and the battery life (though I see some crazy numbers for those that rooted). I don't have the biggest hands but can manage a larger phone if it's well designed at least. This further brings me to the fact that the Pixel 2 is relatively close to announcement and I'm thinking there's a good chance it'll come to T-Mobile this year (but that's me speculating). Anyways, point is, I'm not a huge fan of my s8 and would like to move to the U11 or wait for the pixel 2. I like the OP5 but the lack of ois and weak video/audio recording quality pushes me away from it some. The Z2 Force's reliance on mods also really killed it for me... What are people's thoughts on this situation? Is the U11 worth the $600 now or should I wait for a phone that may or may not be on T-Mobile with similar specs and features with a smaller available screen? Any and all input is welcome, I'm very in the middle of the road here if you can't tell!

If I'm not mistaken, they had the Nexus 6. Maybe the Nexus One and 4 but don't quote me on that.
My speculation is simply based on the fact that the Pixel was an attempt to make a strong direct to consumer phone for enthusiasts and casual users. Releasing it on Verizon and unlocked may have been to just test the waters for a more widespread launch for the Pixel 2. If any other carrier will be offering the Pixel 2 aside from Verizon, my money is on T-Mobile since they had the promotion where they covered $325 if you bought an unlocked pixel and Google is probably going to want to look into making the Pixel 2 more available.
But again, it's speculation and expectations. Google could go back to selling only unlocked models once again like they've done before (Nexus 6 -> 6p; Galaxy Nexus -> Nexus 4). Or they'll do a larger launch. Who knows for sure.

People got this "big bezels" in their head so they follow the trend of saying this beautiful phone "looks dated" that is absolutely ridiculous. This beast is a beaut both front and back and I'd much rather be holding and looking at the front of the HTC U11 than the weird looking S8. It does not look dated.

Yeah I use the HTC wallet case so I'm used to two hand usage. It kinda sucks cause of the squeeze feature is much nicer without it but I like wallet cases too, especially the HTC Iceview. But as soon as I get a new good clear case I will ditch the wallet. Edge sense is really great for one hand usage especially with edge sense plus.

Did you root and flash your phone already? I would plan on doing that at some point but not sure when. How would you say day to day battery life is like pre-root, especially when using social media apps like Facebook, Snapchat, and what's app?

This is the first device that makes me feel like I don't need to root. Of course I did cause there are some simple things I miss and some of the edge sense plus features won't work without root but as far as optimization there is no need. This phone is so perfect it's unreal lol.

Honestly, this is a pretty biased place to ask the question. I love the phone, but I'm sure all the people on this forum do.
I guess it depends on how urgently you need a phone. In terms of strengths and weaknesses I'm pretty sure the Pixel and the U11 are going to be very similar. Maybe Pixel will be marginally better in terms of speed and battery life and U11's audio quality will be better.

The first Android phone ever, the G1, was a T-Mobile exclusive and they carried the Nexus 6 as well. It's doubtful they will carry the Pixels though. T-Mobile pushes Samsung worse than any fanboy ever could so even if they were to get the Pixels, the stores would shove Samsung garbage down your throat. For both the M7 and M8, I had to make them get the phone from the back at one of the Denver stores, it wasn't even on display and the employees acted like they didn't have the M8 and suddenly a box was in front of me when I raised my voice in the middle of the store during lunch rush about where they could shove their Samsung phones.
As to the OP's question, I'd get the U11 personally. I have no complaints about this phone and I'm not even rooted. The battery life is ridiculous, the performance is ridiculous, and you get a lot for your money including the usonic headphones which are incredible for an in ear headset (I usually won't use them but these are comfortable, stay in, and the sound quality is stellar) and a basic case in the box. My only complaint is that 4x4 MIMO is only for Sprint but that's not a big deal since I'm rarely ever away from WiFi and I'm perfectly fine with the speeds I get when I am.

I play a ton of games so obviously I have zero complaints on battery life either.

I let Boost+ optimize my games so they render at 1080p and I disabled News Republic but other than that, no. My 10 can't even come close to 6 hours with web browsing, forget about 8 with mixed usage and it has the same size battery.

One of my friends has always been on T-Mobile and he got his Nexus 5 from them. It didn't last more than a year it's sitting on my desk split open, the screen popped off of it from when he fell on it. It still works, I rooted it and flash a custom ROM for him but he hasn't picked it back up yet. Last Nexus I owned was the Galaxy Nexus and after owning nothing but HTC's since it brought back memories of how much they are cheap plastic. ***Edit I forgot, he actually kept it until they stopped updating it, that is why I rooted it for him.

Personally I wouldn't wait. The U11 is great, I personally returned my Pixel XL because it just wasn't that great compared to my 6P. I'm hopeful for the Pixel 2. But I'm not gonna hold my breath for anything amazing and figure I can always sell the U11 to make up some of the cost.
