Error 262 when trying a Radio or ROM upgrade

I've tried searching, but I can't find anything of use. Could someone please tell me how to remedy this?

In the end I had to uninstall ActiveSync and reinstall it. I also had to hard-reset my TyTn, but everything worked out in the end after about four hours of mayhem.

It sounds like ActiveSync went on holiday. I think there was a post somewhere regarding this that was along the tune of unplugging the phone from the USB, switch ports and/or computers, rebooting the computer (and while you do this, take the battery out of the phone), login back into the computer, put the battery back into the phone, restart ActiveSync. Also, make sure the power is stable. I'd use a laptop so in case the power goes up, the computer would stay on (and a lot of people had issues with Vista (*snicker*)). Something along these lines but I would try to get more verification of that.
Were you trying to upgrade the RADIO or just the OS ROM?
Personally, I'd recommend using mtty to install the OS.
If it is the latter, I'd follow the wiki and do the mtty route (faster and virtually no choice to brick your phone).

RUU error codes
For what it's worth ... the following is from a README.doc in a Dopod ROM:
-> ERROR [202, 204] : CONNECTION
This error message will appear when the device is not connected to ActiveSync correctly. Make sure you properly connect the device to the PC through ActiveSync before running RUU.
-> ERROR [206] : MEMORY ALLOCATION
-> ERROR [280] : UPDATE ERROR
When you see any of these error messages, close other running programs on the computer and run RUU again.
-> ERROR [208] : FILE OPEN
-> ERROR [210] : FILE READ
These error messages indicate that RUU lacks certain important files and cannot continue with the update. Please get the complete RUU package again.
-> ERROR [212] : FILE CREATE
-> ERROR [214] : FILE WRITE
-> ERROR [222, 224] : DEVICE NOT RESPONDING
These error messages will appear when remote access control has failed. Check the ActiveSync connection and try running RUU again.
-> ERROR [220] : MAIN BATTERY POWER
This error message will appear when the device’s battery power is not sufficient. Although RUU will instruct you to plug in the AC adapter, it still has to make sure that your device has enough power to upgrade the radio. (Even when you plug in the AC adapter, the device is unable to charge the battery when it is upgrading the radio).
-> ERROR [238] : FILE READ
This error message may appear when, for some unknown reason, the ROM image on the phone is corrupt. Download the whole RUU and try again.
-> ERROR [240] : FILE OPEN
When this error message appears, check whether the downloaded image is placed in the directory of RUU. If, for some unknown reason, you find that the ROM image is not located in the RUU folder, you have to download the RUU and retry again.
-> ERROR [242] : INVALID LANGUAGE
-> ERROR [244] : INVALID MODEL ID
-> ERROR [294] : INVALID VENDER ID
-> ERROR [296] : UPGRADE ONLY
One of these error messages will appear when you use the wrong RUU to do the upgrade. RUU will check if the Model ID and Language ID are compatible with the device. Make sure you use the appropriate RUU tool to upgrade.
-> ERROR [246] : DEVICE NOT RESPONDING
This error message indicates that RUU cannot start the update process. Please contact your service provider for assistance.
-> ERROR [248~260] : UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs when there is an “open port error” before upgrading the CE ROM image.
Solution: You can reset the device and run RUU again. If you still encounter an “OPEN PORT ERROR” again, reset your computer and try again.
-> ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs during the CE ROM code upgrade process.
Solution: If this happens, you can just soft-reset the device and run RUU again. The update process will then continue.
Note: At this stage, the Wince is destroyed; instead, it is in upgrade mode.
-> ERROR [264, 274] : CONNECTION
-> ERROR [302~318] : UPDATE ERROR
-> ERROR [320~328] : INVALID COMMAND
These errors seldom occur. However, if one of these errors occur, it could not be recovered and the device had to be sent back to the customer service center. In this case, you have to flash a new ROM code.
-> ERROR [300] : INVALID UPDATE TOOL
This error message will appear when you use the incorrect RUU version to upgrade.
-> ERROR [330] : ROM IMAGE ERROR
This error message will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to upgrade and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version to upgrade.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync. Fixed mine a treat.

Hi,
I get the same issue - no connection through activesync at all. I have tried 4.2, 4.5 and I have even tried to get a connection using mtty but it doesnt offer usb as a connection.
I have even tried putting the update file (using the proper procedure) on an SD card and booting up the device.
I simply cant get XDA live 0.10 to connect with USB to my PC. Tried reboots, reinstalls, soft and hard resets... everything.
Is this a matter of repeating the uninstall/reinstall of activesync or is it better to keep soft resetting the device???

Sorted it....
Uninstalled Activesync, rebooted and took the battery out of the device for 15 mins.
Then reconnected the battery. Then (without any Activesync installed) I plugged the device into my pc via USB. It picked up the device and installed some drivers in the background.
To check to see if I had a connection I ran mtty which gave me the ////usb connection as an option - thus confirming the device was being recognised.
I then reinstalled Activesync 4.5 and rebooted the PC to find that I could now connect with the hermes.
THANK GOD !!! I have more grey hair however...

I am trying to update my Hermes' rom but i am getting this error no matter what computer I use, what activesync, vista, XP doesnt help.
Is it necessary that I hard reset the device?

A little more information about what exactly you are trying to do to upgrade your ROM goes a long way. Which ROM are you trying to install? How? To which device? etc...

No, it is not necessary (EDIT: But the upgrading will "hard reset" your device. Everything will be lost)

Error 262 usually means that the connection between the update program and the device has been lost. I've seen this happening when for some reason the installation of the device drivers after the SSPL loads takes too long. Try rebooting the computer, make sure that no other programs are running, ensure that you get a good activesync connection (green) and then try again. See if it works.
Your computer has Windows XP right?

A quick search suggests that if the pc is fine then the device is bricked (possibly a 2c brick).

I couldn't update the device to LVSW or even SPL V6 with the USB connection Alone.
I've resolved this problem by running the exe from SSPL-HERM.zip downloaded from this forum which put me into bootloader. Then I connect to USB and updated the device with LVSW Successfully! I am not entirely sure why but I'm relieved. Thanks all!

Glad you solved it... I still believe that you had a problem with USB drivers timing out in the switchover from activesync to the RUU. Enjoy the new ROM!!!

I had this same problem... Changing the usb -port in my pc seemed o take care of the whole issue for me. Yes and im running XP.

I'm facing the same Radio issue... CRC check gives Error... And I'm unable to upgrade it to anything, it stop on 0% then gives 262 error... Tried to dlash the original rom and it stop on 13%...
Also, I tried on another PC with the same results, uninstall, reinstall ActiveSync did nothing...
So, please help help help...

Reinstalling Activesync seems to have done it for me. Didn't change USB port. I also uninstalled a bunch of Apple products (iTunes, iPod reset, Bonjour, Apple Update Utility) without restarting the PC.

I might be stating the obvious but for newbies like me here if you do not follow the process and do not start by installing and running RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe first you will also get error [262]. It might be obvious to most of everybody around here but I can see how somebody new might get confused and skip this important first step! Good luck to all!

[Q] New Motorola Milestone 2 is not working after 2 days... (can't turn on)

I bought Motorola Milestone 2 from UK(probably) two days ago and so far everything was fine. I tested WiFi and other tools and it worked pretty well.
Today, I had some auto-reboots when I was using phone, phone usually stopped during starting... but it backs to normal. Then I was calling to my friend, and decided to "END CALL", but nothing happened (I was unable to close this calling 'menu'). During this other apps works fine (I checked browser), then I decided to TURN OFF the phone.
Now I have problems with turning it on, during start I see motorola's logo, then it blinks for a moment and finally screen turns 80% black (a bit brighter than black one, there is some light ). I can't turn off the phone using top button, I have to pull out the battery. When phone is connected to USB, small white diode is working and I can TURN OFF the phone (but I have still the same problem during start).
I tried removing SIM card, SD card, both of them, I don't have "recovery menu" when I am pressing down X key and turning POWER ON (same things happen) - maybe I am doing something wrong during pressing Xkey and power key(??). I have only ARROW UP + POWER ON bootloader menu.
I spent over 6hours for searching solution - no results so far.
What should I do? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS.
I logged to motoblur and my software version is 62.2.16.A953.Retail.en.GB.

I dont have a milestone 2, i have the original milestone though, and to fix this id just have to load the screen that comes up when you press the UP button on the dpad (arrow). Then plug your phone to your PC, open RSD lite and once your device has been detected you go ahead and flash a stock SBF file.

Hi, I am thinking about it, I downloaded 5 different SBF files, but I am not sure which I should use in my motorola. I have it on my moto's box: SM, A953, GB, RETAIL, SLVR so it probably comes from UK.

I will test this version now.
What is a bit weird, when I plug the phone in socket, I can see battery level animation but still can't turn on the phone, nothing happens after motorola's logo.

Did you do it the right way? Mine unit auto turn on after finish flash the SBF rom. Then finally disconnect the usb cable.

My moto also turn of after finish, but I see only motorola logo and then blank screen again...
Which version of RSD Lite should I use? I have 4.6 now.

Seriously though, its a matter of flashing the right SBF the right way. Find out how to get to the Bootloader on the milestone 2. On my milestone 1 all i have to do is keep the DPAD-UP button while turning the phone on.
Once you get there, plug your usb cable to your PC and RSD Lite will detect your phone which will let you flash your SBF file again. Id recommend flashing an UK stock one.
Also, have you installed the proper motorola USB drivers? remember you need to install the appropiate drivers depending on what OS you're using. (ie. Windows 7 x64, theres x64 motorola USB drivers you need to install)
I can imagine how sad you might be right now (after reading your comment on your youtube vid) but really, in my opinion, your phone is anything but permanently bricked

Wow, it's second method I think. I used KPAD+UP + POWER and it is also working.
Do you know another method to open RECOVERY MENU (originally X+POWER ON)?

I think also it is bricked, but there is still a hope!
If nothing new happen during few days (no new ideas) I will send it to repair-service ( I've just received bill from my seller ).

You've got to that RSDLite screen, seems like the program is detecting your phone ok. Go ahead and flash the UK ROM and see how it goes.

I flashed it several times before! When it reboot whole system, I see moto logo and then the same problem - nothing after... :\

You can use any EU software as long as the bands are compatible. German, GB, EU etc., etc.

I have a similar problem and I'm trying to flash a new SBF, but after flashing I get a checksum error and cant get it to work...

I didn't have anything similar to your problem - In my case everything was OKAY when I flashed my phone (of course phone didn't turn on ).

Since yesterday my MM2 is briqued on boot animation ....
I have test RSDlite (it's not the first time I use it) but nothing (with 2 SBF different)
RSDLite :
1) Download firmware ==> Ok
2) Installation ==> Ok
3) Reboot ==> block on boot animation .... (look screen say "reboot manually.." but my MM2 is power on )

[Q] Dell Venue Pro; Update failed, recover not successfull

Hello there,
my "new" Venue Pro arrived yesterday and i just started to test it.
It had a very old firmware, not even mango ... so i startet updates by zune.
After the third update (for wlan problems, i think it was the "latest" wp7 update) i get an error .... so i restartet the phone an tried again, no success.
I read a lot, not even the microsot update tool could help. So i startet the recover in zune over settings, updates.
The update startet and now i always get an error by 61%. I read a lot again, i even tried to backup it from another comuter (copied image %appdata%\Microsoft\Microsoft Phone Update) but the same problem.
So, my "new" phone doesent start any more ... it just loads to the bootloader ...
I tried to get any offiziel firmware to flash the device to "standard" but i seams hat MS dont want this.
I knew a little bit about flashing WM6 devices (HSPL & custom fw) but with WP7 devices i dont really understand what to do in this situation.
I hope you can help me! Can i download the dell firmeware someware to recover the phone? maybe someone have a "personal recover firmware" for me?

If your device can load into download mode (that you called "bootloader") it can be restored to 7004 T-mobile branded version and later update to 7720 via Zune. This is only one available firmware on the public.

So, i downloaded VenuePro_flash_GLEOS2A_US_TMO_SIGNED_SWV0105_LP0030_RV001_RETAIL.ffu and thought, everthing is getting fine.
But i had no idea how i can install this!
I´m reading hours and hours, tried to use UpdateWP.exe (crash on 2 computers, where NO MS Support tools are installed), Windows_Phone_7_Backupv1.9, MangoB2-ZuneClient, Zune 4.7 .... no success.
Could sombody please tell me, how i can install this on Windows 7 x64? I dont know what to do ...

As i said before, there is no (more) Microsoft Update Software on my computer and on the second there never was it.
Mybe i could handle it with the "MangoB2 Updater" .... but i cant download this anywhere.

Do not panic yet. You have different versionsof zune or updatewp /missing files
Deinstall everything related to zune.DONT TOUCH EVERYTHING RELATED TO MS SUPPORT TOOLS, IF ITS INSTALLED IT DOESNT INFLUE ON PROCESS!!!
Install Net framework 3.5, 4;
Install Zune(take it from zune.net);
Install wp7 updatetool from zip attached here here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306415 with proper x64 file.
Follow those steps after connecting device in download mode:
Extract command prompt to C:\program files\zune\
go to directory to “C:\program files\zune\ and run Command prompt. Type in : “UpdateWp /list” and your phone should show up there.
If your phone is listed (it should be) and your download is done and extracted, copy the VenuePro_flash_GLEOS2A_US_TMO_SIGNED_SWV0105_LP003 0_RV001_RETAIL.ffu file over to the” C:\program files\zune\” directory.
Type in: “updatewp /ffu VenuePro_flash_GLEOS2A_US_TMO_SIGNED_SWV0105_LP003 0_RV001_RETAIL.ffu” enter, update should start.

Great, now i can start my dell venue pro again and even updating is functional.
But why can´t i change the display language? I tought i´m able to change the display language in this roms? In all WP7 phones (in germany) i could change the language at the first start (and after a reset).

2)you can use NaviFirm+ 3.2 (click here)
UPDATE :
first you need to know your mobile product code
if remove battery your product type and code will be printed there
or
open Extras + info you will see RM type like RM-xxx and choose your desired product code to flash
3 ) After installing Nokia care suite ,create a newfolder with a Name " Products" at C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages
it will become C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products
Now create Your RM-xxx empty folder ,for lumia 1520 The folder name will be RM-937
in order to see hidden programdata folder click on show hidden folder in view

,select Vietnam firmware for field test,in windows phone 10 10149 build we got field test by selecting 3G only in sim settings ,but we will have polling frequency and selective bands for battery save ,so i choose vietnam

Now open Nokia care suite and click on Product support tool for store 5
6 ) click on file ---> Open Prouct and type your phone model and select correct rm of rour phone
7 ) click on programming and select recovery
8 ) click on updated list , your phone product number and all informaton willl display ,connect your phone click start
9 )it check data packages of Firmware ask for press volumue up+power button untill it vibrates ,do the same thing click retry
10 ) check at your phone screen flashin already started ,dont distruct flashing ,keep your pc awake untill it shows recovery completed
you will flashed to desired version of Firmware .you will get full sys freespace

It seems that Microsoft Care Suite has come out .
Really worry about the latest lumias` support by Nokia Care Suite , but can`t find a way to get Microsoft Care Suite as my Emergency Tool . I love flashing.

i can see the downloaded ffu in the recovery/properties table but the START button stays disabled even after clicking the loaded firmware....

i followed them step by step and, got a green sd card, but when i select the xap and apply the mod, the wpcustom will just exit and there is no cahnge in the icon of hacked pfd, when launched, pfd will just run as usual(connects to ms etc)
in the links you give, im on #6, it will not go to #7, the registry is not opened after executing #6. i have pfd on SDCard, i havegreen sd card permission....
4.Now you can see “SD Card Permissions” as green color.
5.After changing SD Card permissions click on browse xap button.
6.Browse and select Custom_pfd.xap from SD card and click Apply XAP Button.
7.After successfully applying custom_pfd tool to preview for developers goto Preview for Developers apps.
8.Now your phone is hacked and you can edit registry of your WP8.1.

try Austrailian Firmware , latest with Denim and had field test features(2g/3g/4gsignal lock),hope this will work after Windows phone 10 update
dont try to check ##3282 code in ffu with winhex ,just download and flash,it may change crc value,file will corrupted,check australian FWs version number for u r device and download

does your firmware detected check the path ,use supplied data cable only,uninstall nokia usb driver in controlpanel restart connect your device ,it will install drivers automatically ,use win 7 or higher,sure it will detect

i get the same error with my lumia 920. i want to go back to wp8.1 instead of wp10
problem is:
-) lumia software recovery tool cant connect to the phone (i should press vol down and power, but that just restarts my phone and it still wont be recognized)
-) windows phone recovery tool just restarts my phone 3 times and also says, that it cant connect to my phone (i should press vol down and power, but that just restarts my phone and it still wont be recognized)
-) nokia care suite 5 ****s up with the above error message.

Main and important step is Phone Should vibrate if Tool trying to flash
simple steps
1) first place Firmware Appropriate folder
2) go to recovery--> start ,it will check firmware files first time and popup will come to retry
3> at this time hold volume down first it become 0 and vibrates
simultaneously hold power button without leaving volume down
shutdown slider will come don't touch it and wait until display off
then release power button for 1 sec and repress immediately
phone will vibrates, tool will start flashing process
high end devices like 1520 will vibrate volume down+power press at a time
its depend upon device ,if at a time doesn't work follow above method

Wifi, data and Bluetooth not working on Lumia 920

Hello, first of all, sorry for any typing error, english is not my first language but i will try to make this easy to understand.
I possess a Nokia Lumia 920. As you all know, the Lumia 920 wasn't update to WM 10 and i was stuck to WP8.1.
I follow a tutorial from this website to unlock the bootloader and enable root acess to change the configurations to be able to update to WM10. It work perfectly and i was using until saturday.
Saturday i use Windows Device Recovery Tool to go back to WP8.1 to be able to use the oficial version instead of the fast-ring version that i was in it. I downgrade sucessfully and i was doing the the steps to unlock the bootloader. Was the same process and nothing unusuall.
When i soft-reset the phone, i notice that the Wifi, Bluetooth and Data wasn't working and i was unable to fix that.
Thing that i try to do
Soft-reset
Hard-reset
Flash a FFU file using WP internal
And when i try to use the Windows Device Recovery Tool, i show me this error:
Error
Error Reading your phone information
It wasn't possible read the information.
Details:
Could not read ProductCode or ProductType
I already try the other option from undetected phone on WDRT but doesn't work to.
Looking at the WDRT log i found this:

Your phone DPP Parition may be damaged.
You can fix it if you have full backup of your phone. Or dpp backup otherwise you cant get anything working (ril,wifi,bt data) or may be camera but not sure about camera
