How to unbrand your HTC Windows Phone 7 Device and Update To NODO

Has anyone tried this on an HD2 Windows Phone 7? Spoof Build 7008?

Howdy!
So NoDo was finally released this morning. Well, for the EU people anyway (don’t get me started).
Windows Phone 7, by default, stores your operator identifier in a sneaky registry key, which is checked by the Windows Update Client running on the phone. This identifier is then used to check if the updates have been approved for your operator. If they are slow, like Telstra here is in Australia, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
So, let’s tell you how you can “un-brand” (this won’t remove the boot splash screen) your phone so it appears to be a generic handset to the Update Servers.
Your device needs to be dev-unlocked for this to work. Sorry folks.
1.Download this zip file and deploy the 3 xap files onto your device.
2.Run the ChevronWP7.Ringtones.xap and wait till it displays “Ringtones added… and CustClear.provxml underneath”
3.Run the TouchXplorer app, navigate to My DocumentsMy Ringtones click on CustClear.provxml and select Copy from the Application Bar.
4.Navigate back inside TouchXplorer to the Windows folder.
5.Select paste from the Application Bar, this should scroll right to the bottom and put a copy of CustClear.provxml in the Windows folder.
6.Now run the Connection Setup application and click on the Ok button (it’s the one with the tick).
And now you’re done and free to re-connect to Zune and check for updates.
Again, this is ONLY for HTC devices.

This is only working with native WP7 devices, I assume.

Maybe, One way to find out? What harm can the update do? We have HSPL and Magldr, both should protect the SPL & Bootloader............

Tried it and it still doesn't detect the nodo update, I'm in the UK by the way so I should have access to it.

I'm in the U.S all the roms that have 7.08 other than boypcc it zune does't say a update is needed. On the boypcc rom it offers the update put the phone is locked so you can't try this out.

Tried it with boypcc's rom and now detects the update but gets stuck at creating a backup in the update process. Guess we'll just have to wait until a proper release with the update is made.

it aint going to make any difference, when your device goes in to flash mode windows installs a driver for a "LEO" device
i just reinstalled windows and at no point was anything on the phone or on the computer pointing to it being a Leo, that i know of, so MS can detect something that isnt right on a reboot and wacks it, if i had a native device to hand it would be intresting to find out what driver its installing, rip it out, update the leo driver installed for our HD2 to the other (correct native) driver. and see what happens.....or of course it may well detect some reg entry as stated, but i doubt thats the real cause as drivers are usually installed by hardware IDs but who knows hey!

[HowTo] Guide To unlock HTC Trophy. First steps and some free apps

This is guide on HowTo unlock your trophy ...Μost of those info are scattered over the xda...
I put them together as an easy to use guide
At this moment only rom version 7004 and 7008 (pre-NoDo) can be unlocked.
There is a new try by the devs here to unlock the post-NoDo roms...
OK lets start ...Download and extract this file package...
A. ULOCK
1. From your PC: Send a mail to your self (to an account that is accesible from your phone) and attach the
ChevronWP7.cer. file.
2. From your Phone: Open that mail and press the attachment (ChevronWP7.cer) to download it..
Wait unil finish and pres again to install the cerificate
3. Download and install Windows Phone Developer Tools from here.
4. Connect your phone to your pc with usb cable and make sure zune software has see your device and is
connected (not as a guest but a full). Also ignore/cancel any update messages from zune or your phone...
Finally make sure your phone is not in the lockscreen but in the home screen
5. From your PC: Run the app ChevronWP7.exe. Check both boxes and pres unlock.
6. If all went OK then you just Developer Unlock your device and you can sideload application.
B. Prevent from re-locking
Download and install in your phone the app Advance Configuration Tool 1.2 In the settings there is an
option to prevent from relocking...
C. If you have problems
1. Disable Firewall and Antivirus and put your phone to Airplain mode
2. The chevronunlock application runs only on Windows vista and Windows 7. Not in XP.
3. In your pc registry editor make sure the this key is like this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\WindowsPhone\\ProxyPorts]
“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
4. Any programm that use the Https protocol must be disable (skype is one)
5. Make sure the file hosts in the pc \Windows\system32\drivers\etc is NOT read only.

The file package has and some apps like WPDeviceManager.exe and MarketPlace_setup.exe.

What todo and where to go ...After the unlock
1. Now you are ready to install all the updates from Zune until your rom has the number 7392.
2. Setup your e-mail accounts.. from Settings/Emails Accounts
Warning... Your first windows live account that you will setup its the only one that you cant delete
3. Here also you can setup your facebook account. If you dont want to have all the FB "frients" in the contacts page the go settings/application/ people and check there.
4. Install from the market FAcebook and other apps from the market
5. Install Tom xap installer (in the package)...and now you are ready to sideload any application (xap) file that you want to your phone..
6. If your language its not one of the 4 natives ones then you want to install the application Native Keyboard...(in the package)
Its supporting a lot of lang by changing the German or Spanish keyboard...
The second file package contains the following apps
1 Native Keyboard - (in the package)
2. Registry Editor (in the package)
3. Βattery tool (in the package)
4. Facebook and FIM (MARKET)
5. Htc Apps (more that 10 apps from HTC )(MARKET)
6. Flixter and IMDB For movies fans.. (MARKET)
7. Shazam . (MARKET)
8. Wonder Reader και Tech News Now -- RSS google reader (MARKET)
9. Tile Notes- Yellow notes in live tile

Nevermind, sorry, I didn't that you already mentioned that. Maybe make it bold... And mention that Verizon phones come with NoDo in the flash - no way to flash back to 7004 or 7008...

Have a trophy updated to 7390, but restored back to 7008 with zune.
Sucessfully unlocked and ran advanced config tool and checked the "prevent phone from relocking", had to enable airplane mode for it to work, but suddenly now it seems to stay unlocked in normal mode everytime i open up zune.
Can i assume that now it would be ok to update to 7390? how about 7392, would that work too?
Edit: Works ok with 7392, still unlocked.

Did the same as espeneppi...restored my Trophy w/ Vodafone Branding back to 7008, but now chevron is giving that error message (make sure zune is running etc..)
When my phone was 7004 I had successfully jaibreaked w/ chevron

Hello ... i tryed this guide ! i worked until the step when im going to "run" Chevron i get this message its not possible to run couse it cant find my phone mace sure its connectet etc etc.. i dont know what i did wrong??
installed the devployer thing.. i worked!! but now the program crash.. chevron ..
i run it and boom.. the program has stopped running bla bla bla.. strange.

The device has a demo loop on it and I was trying to install four of the roms that ansar had posted but none of them worked. One of the roms put the phone in this state. I don't know what to do?

I will unlock regarding this guide my Trophy with 7004. Then I will prevent it from being relocked. Then, when Mango will go official, I will make update from 7004. Will it go directly to Mango, or will it make updates from 7004 to... and to... and at least to Mango?
Will phone stay unlocked after going to Mango?

tried to find answer myself but couldnt find anything related my problem is ive flashed the new xboxmod + yuki wp7 rom (7004) done every thing to letter it gets two updates from zune to (7392) then i tried to send cab files and it fails with this massage " installed version of zunewmdu <4.8.2345.0> dosent match tool version <4.8.2134.0>
now zune tries to update to mango beta 7403 and fails with error code 80180005
any help would be great plus im not a developer i just eat what the chefs here provide so i not sure what u need to know from me plus if this has been solved elsewhere sorry and pls point me to it

in the cab sender, there should be 3 folders, one of them says if needed, install this tool. try installing that (there is 1 32bit and 1 64bit so just install the one for your system). also make sure the cab sender app stays in the same folder as those 3 folders. so in the WP7 Cab sender folder (or whatever the main folder is called)you have:
FOLDER: if needed install this tool
FOLDER: logs
FOLDER: tools
and the WP7 Update Cab Sender.bat file

How to unbrick a Dell Venue Pro

The following steps should unbrick your Dell Venue pro in most cases (this will not unbrick your phone if you updated the touch screen firmware via the EM app). You can do this at your own risk. I strongly suggest calling or e-mailing Dell Mobility Support before doing this. If your phone is out of warranty, you replaced the SD card, or did something else really silly to it then this might be your only option. You will lose all data on your phone with this method. Your contacts should be backed up on Live/Hotmail/Facebook/Twitter/Etc. and your images on SkyDrive. Everything else will be wiped. You phone will be wiped back to Version 7704 (or what we had when the phone launched back in October of 2010).
The following instructions are for Windows-based machines. There might be a similar utility for Mac’s but I have no way to find out. You are on your own if you have a Mac.
Unplug your DVP, Remove the battery.
If you replaced your SD card (and voided the warranty in the process) please insert your stock SD card at this time. If you never touched your SD card then you can obviously skip this step.
If your phone already has the stock SD card in it, please wait 10 seconds, and put the battery back in. You may put the cover back on as well if you like.
Now we are going to enter the boot loader (this is how your bricked phone can receive the FFU file) by holding the volume down (-), camera, and then power buttons. DO NOT RELEASE THESE until you see the image of a phone, USB cable, and laptop.
Connect your Dell Venue Pro to your computer with the USB cable that came with the phone or one that has the same or higher specs. I have seen it take up to 10 minutes for the phone to be recognized by your computer. If after 10 minutes your phone hasn’t connected, try another USB port and/or cable.
While your computer is installing the drivers/connecting to your phone download the following file and extract it.

While this is downloading, close Zune if it is not already closed as it takes a few seconds for it to really unload from memory.
Once you think your phone has been connected, open up command prompt (you may need to start it in admin mode depending on your security settings) by typing “cmd” in the start menu or going start -> run and entering “cmd”.
Change directory to “C:\program files\zune\” by typing “cd C:\program files\zune\” and hitting enter
Then type “UpdateWp /list” and your phone should show up there. If it hasn’t be patient and read step 3 again.
If your phone is listed (it should be) and your download is done and extracted, copy the VenuePro_flash_GLEOS2A_US_TMO_SIGNED_SWV0105_LP0030_RV001_RETAIL.ffu file over to the” C:\program files\zune\” directory. You may wish to rename this file before copying it over to something shorter if you wish for the next part.
Now back in the command prompt window type “updatewp /ffu VenuePro_flash_GLEOS2A_US_TMO_SIGNED_SWV0105_LP0030_RV001_RETAIL.ffu”. If you did not rename the FFU file you can type Venue and then hit tab to auto complete the name otherwise enter the name of the FFU file you renamed.
Hit enter and DO NOT unplug the phone. This process can take anywhere between 60 seconds and 10 minutes.
This should work and bring you back to the stock state. If it does not you can retry this a few more times but if after 2 or 3 times it does not work then you need to contact Dell as your phone is royally screwed.
You can now re-open Zune, pair your device, and update all the way back to Mango (this could take up to an hour).

Now I wonder if there is a way to edit that ffu file ...

My phone told me:
So I tried many of my backup (first boot,Nodo and mango beta backup) to restore it and the ffu backup file but my phone boot in 20mins and no access to EM or any other application but I have an home screen...
Can you tell me if I try to replace my sd card and flash with the ffu i can retreive a working phone?
(Dell doesn't respond to my mails)

I tried entering that but it said 'updatewp /list' is not a recognized as an internal or external, operable program or batch file.' Is there something I'm doing wrong? I've tried it on two different laptops.

This arises from a previous installation of Windows Phone Support Tool. You have to uninstall it and then install/reinstall the file found in this link http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PL7H6FKJ) and then I copied the files in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262471 to the Zune Directory.
Hopefully that solves your problem.

DVP restored, upgraded to the latest version. But phone does not see MicroSD HC 32Gb Class 10. Before that, everything worked fine. Now available in 32 Gb only 400 Mb: (
Put on the stock card 8Gb Class 4 - worked. But ...
Several times already rolling away in 7004, updated again - anyway, just out of 32Gb 400Mb ...
EM Test says SD Card - not installing, but the DVP should not run without the card!
Please, help me again...

DVP really work without a memory card But I do not need. So it does not work 32Gb ...

Sorry guys, I can't seem to find another version of the first link I listed. I deleted mine unless someone can reupload it. The only suggestion I have is to try and check this link (http://www.multiupload.com/EQK2RPH3P6) file for the 'updatewp.exe', which should install 'Windows Phone Engineer Flashing Tool'. Why oh why did they shut down Megaupload, when it also had its legitimate reasons as well. But I can't blame them or agree with what those Pro-SOPA and PIPA are trying to do. There are always two sides to every story I suppose.

Dell Venue Pro..I think I have a demo model

I got a Venue Pro yesterday. I purchased it on eBay. Hooked it up to perform updates and I couldn't. I constantly get error code 80070002
I have tried it now on two PCs on two different networks, one running Win 7 and the other running Win 8. I have looked on the net but can't really find anything helpful.
Anyway, never having had the phone before I found it odd that it came with a call and message history. Even after I reset the phone it still has a history, pictures of people from Facebook with pictures that are obviously professional shots. All messages are from people each other how great their new Windows phone is.
Also, if I don't use the phone for a couple of minutes it starts a phone demo video/slide show. I am now thinking I have a demo OS even though I can make calls and surf the net. Current OS is 7.0.7004.0
What can I do to totally wipe this phone and start from blank?

You'll probably have to follow the instructions in "How to unbrick a Dell Venue Pro." No way to change a demo ROM into a retail ROM. You need to flash the retail ROM and start over.

If you still have the original rom installed on it, could you:
run the emapp tool and write down the contents of what it has?
As far as dell is concerned, I dont believe they normally make demo specific roms.
But that is in reference to their android devices and MS might have had them make an exception for the VP (and it's WP7)

Hi, I just got a phone in the same conditions you have had mention(demo mode), and I thought I have done and taken the same steps to flash my device, but with not avail, the skydrive file has been removed, and I was wondering if you maybe still have them(the files) somewhere and if I could "borrow" them. I mean I think I have the right ROM and the UpgardeWp, but maybe they are the wrong ones, because is NOT working for me.

I am trying to do the same thing. But when I click the sky drive link to download the rom , there is nothing there. It asks me to login to windows live and thats it. Do you still have this rom downloaded and can you email it to me? OR where can I find this rom? Plz help.

In the middle of the "how to unbrick your dell venue pro" the rom is posted, on some russian download site.

That file is hosted on my skydrive, and it is still available. It may be asking you to log in to your windows live account to access it. Not sure.

I got the UpdateWP too from here

Only thing to note is to extract the UpdateWP folder and put both files in to the Zune directory on your PC.
After that everything went relatively smoothly. It took 2 or 3 tries to get the Retail ROM to take and from there the phone updated perfectly until Mango. It failed but I just disconnected USB and reconnected and it ran the update.

hi All,
i got a working DVP after doing all steps mentioned in "How to unbrick DVP" after that when i connect my phone to Zune i am getting below error and i am not able to do anything with my phone (data tranfer,update, app install etc), please help meif you can:
ERROR: "RESTORATION ERROR" An error prevented the restoration of your phone to its previous verion.
ERROR CODE: C101002E
i have performed everything that is posted in XDA-developer about this error and when i tried to update/restore/backup from command promt using .cab file i got below error:

First thing I'd do is do a soft reset if you just flashed the stock 7004 ROM.
Windows Phone > Settings > About > Reset your phone.
Then, just a guess -- go into Zune Desktop > Settings > Phone > Sync Options > [Forget this phone]
Then plug the phone again and see if it lets you set it up as a new device, with update check.
If this doesn't work, the next thing I'd try is moving to another Windows machine, installing a fresh copy of Zune Desktop, and seeing if it will let you update using that. You could also use a Windows installation in virtualization using virtualbox, or an installation on another partition if you are an advanced user.
Basic troubleshooting. Just floating ideas.

1. when i clicked on "Desktop > Settings > Phone > Sync Options >" it shows "connect a device" and i am not able to connect my phone becouse after error pop-up, there is only one option "close" and after click on close zune shows "no device connected".
2. i have already tried it on 2 PCs, suggest me other option please.

If you've also tried doing the soft reset as I mentioned, you may want to see if you can use the cab sender method to update to one of the nodo builds.

Was this your phone and had it been working previously, or was it in this "connect to PC screen" state when you got it?
Can you think of anything you might have done to cause it to stop working?
Is it the AT&T, T-Mobile, or EU/International version?
Did you use a non-english language cab?

1. yes, i tried a soft reset(resetting the phone from settings->about phone->reset phone) even also perform a soft reset without SD card and try to update from zune without SD card but still getting same restoration error.
i already tried all options cab sender, mangoforall 0.2 etc/ update and restore from command promt:
getting below error everytime whenever i tried to perform any thing from command promt(.bat) :

2. this is not my phone i got it in a non working state showing "SD card not working".. then i performed steps mentioned in "how to unbrick DVP". after that i got a working DVP.
3. It is a T-mobile DVP and sim unlock by unlock code provided by dell.
4. It is on 7004 Tmobile ffu no cab update til now, as i am not able to send any cab via cab sender.
Note: i don't have any previous back-up of this mobile and not sure wheather the SD card is original or not.
