HDHomerun View - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This appears to have been pulled from Google Play Store. I really want to check Live Channels out on my new Nexus Player. Does anyone have an apk?
Thanks

Have you gone to the play store on the computer or searched for it on the Nexus Player?
Most guys seem to think you don't have to search for apps on the Nexus Player, that's not true.
Sent from my Samsung GALAXY Note 4 using Tapatalk

No it is very much pulled. I spoke to Silicon Dust HQ just a few minutes ago, said it was a Google mistake and will be back. I just really wanted to play around with it this weekend..

Good buddy, I got your back, If you need the above apps, I GOT MORE APP WITH LEANBACK LUANCHER CODE,
THAN GOOGLE PLAY STORE.{lol} Think It's a joke if you want to, but it's true!
Keeping it real , the above apps can be found here https://plus.google.com/communities/103510820500984874818?partnerid=gplp0 !
Locating The Apps At Google+
All of my Leanback Launcher apps on Google + are located in one place under "ALL POST" go to "Nexus TV Player/ADT-1 LBLC Apps Bank" ..! You can scroll down through the apps and pick the ones you want to install on your device.

Thanks Mr. Oliver! Good to see you still out there championing these products... I finally picked up a Nexus Player and HDHomerun Extend last week.... How do you like it so far? Got any tips on settings to get the most out of my OTA?
Thanks again!

You are setting up the Nexus TV Player and HDHomeRun Extend box the correct way, they go together like a hand and glove, like white on rice. Add Sling TV and a Kodi app, PVR, AVR, now you will have the dream team truly. If you own a AVR, it will be your point guard !{lol}
A lot of people don't know it, but the Kodi has been restructured to work with OTA digital channels, sub channels too. Did you know with the above set up with the Kodi, PVR, AVR, via WMC all in the mix, you will have DTS 5.1/7.1 AC3 Dolby Digital sound with just all about your OTA digital channels, some will have 2.0 digital sound, still awesome!
If you have a 4K/H265 UHD TV, Kodi can handle your 4K movies also! You may hear a lot of dudes saying the Nexus TV Player cannot handle MPEG decoding or DTS 5.1/7.1 AC3 Dolby Digital sound, pay no attention. They forgot the Kodi can handle all the decoding you will ever need on your Nexus TV Player and ADT-1! Take care, holla back if you need any help!{lol}

Is there a tutorial somewhere about setting up a PVR with the HDHomeRun? The only way I was able to make it work in Kodi was through dlna. Even then, it struggles with the 1080 channels. The HDHomerun app works better, but the video freezes occasionally while the audio continues to play.

My HDHomeRun Prime and HDHomeRun EXtend works like a charm with Kodi via PVR, WMC set up, never ever had any issues ! Everything works smooth as silk! In the above photo check out my EPG {Color Electronic Program Guide}, I can even record the programs of my choice via the on screen color program guide!

Wait, is this working as a Media Center Extender??? I didn't know that was possible!
I need tutorials on how to do this, I've been searching the web for a while... All I can ever find is how to use Dlna to watch channels.

First what is your channel source you have connected to your HDHomeRun box, cable TV or OTA DIGITAL AND did you download/INSTALL the HDHomeRun PC Software FIRST? You want a wired connection with your HDHomeRun box ... You need the WMC Server set up, always scan the channels source first via the HDHomeRun first.

So which HDHomeRun Box are you using now? Just follow the instructions at the link.

I have the Prime...
I ran into a problem. The app doesn't seem to like that I moved my record folder away from the C drive. Then I discovered I have another problem because I formatted said drive from NTFS to ExFAT late last year, and WMC doesn't like that.

Good Music Player

So I really like the Google Play, but it puts all my songs that do not have an Album under the Album "Music". So when I go in the Artist section it forces them all to be under the same artist essentially.
I looked at some others, but they are God awfully ugly. I love how the Google one looks, but hate the functionality.
I do agree with you. The inability to organize your music/albums is lacking. I still feel it's better then most other music player's...at least with what I've tried so far.
Try PowerAmp
My recommendation is PowerAmp, absolutely the best music player I've ever used by far. It costs 4 bucks for the full version which is definitely worth it in my opinion, but you can see how good it is with the free version.
Sleek awesome UI with a few skins, it has just about every configuration setting you could need, tons of music folder organization and scan options, sorting options, the best equalizer on the market. Supports tons of music formats too. Plus the devs are great they gave me a full refund to rebuy the app on a new google account when I switched. It's got an awesome homescreen widget too. My personal favorite feature is the instant queue which lets you add music to a rolling playlist for when the current song ends.
For what you are looking for, it doesn't actually manipulate folders. It scans all the music in whatever directories you allow it to look, and then creates a virtual database within the apps. It does an excellent job of reading file tags though, so it almost always gets my songs organized properly even if they are named awkwardly. It also gives you the ability to edit the tags through the app which would fix any files organized incorrectly.
Give the free version a try before you even look at anything else I literally can't rant enough about how much I love it, easily my favorite and most used app
Google Play Store - PowerAmp (Free Version)
I've used 4 or 5 players now including PowerAmp, but Z Player is easily my favorite. Although some may be turned off by it's Zune-esque layout, I find it easier to find the songs I want to listen to quickly. The dev is very responsive and updates fairly frequently. It may not have all the bells and whistles if you need maximum control over your audio, but does have a simple eq and a sleek, enjoyable layout. Allows editing of ID3 tags and simple playlist creation as well. For style, layout, and simplicity, Z Player can't be beat. For more control, PowerAmp may be for you, . 5 stars from me.

Love PowerAmp! It is pretty nice, the UI is not a good as Google's IMO, but it is still better than most. Do you know of any good equalizer settings? Something for like generally everything.

I agree that stock eq settings are great and normalized for general listening, and always good to fall back on, but truthfully with the extensive settings poweramp gives, if you get the settings right you can get exceptional sound quality you won't believe. PowerAmp and the eq support up to FLAC (Lossless Quality), which on my nice sennheiser headphones or speakers, especially at higher volumes, makes a noticable difference when the EQ is set the right way. On the other hand, I am also a bit of an audiophile so I probably obsess a little more than most
Anyway, if you want to tweak I would suggest starting with the 'rock' eq preset, with 'tone' on and 'limit' on, and working from there. It has slightly lower mids and slightly higher low and high bands. Many people will also suggest raising the bass and treble settings a bit to the same effect. Obviously different types of music will all have different perfect settings, but this is a good general starting place. I find its fun to mess around with the levels while listening to a song which you can do because the eq updates in realtime in poweramp.
There are plenty of threads with people discussing the same thing, take a look at these if you're interested:
Thread - PowerAmp EQ levels?
Thread - Post your eq settings!
I don have a really high standards for music players, I am not particular with equalizers as well. But what I wanted in a music player is how you are able to organize your playlist. Specifically, everytime I add songs to my Main playlist, I want it to be on top of the list and I dont want to go through all the hassle of moving each and every song from bottom to top.
any suggestions?

Hey Eia, I must once again throw PowerAmp into the ring. My number one app out of the entire store, it has more options and functions than you could ever hope to need, and still a beautiful UI. You are specifically looking for playlist sort options? Check out the screenshot I am attaching, I believe the function you would want is the 'sort by date added' function I am showing. Cheers.

I would have to say go with PowerAmp. And if your phone is rooted then d/l BeatsDSP. Basically turns your headphones into $150 BeatsbyDre. BeatsDSP are enable by PowerAmp and they work great together.

This on tablets or any larger phone with a good development community. Probably timing wise it might work well on the new nexus phone which should be cutting edge tech and if it follows the N4 prices quite cheap too.
I wouldn't mind seeing this on a more premium looking device like the HTC One.

i don't think we will see this device on big devices like "htc one". in fact we will never get it publicly on any android device for a long time. i'm sure that they will want to see their devices selling first.
only n950 and n9 has that chance and even that might be a pain in the butt.

No ROM has even been released yet, so there is no point speculating. The phone that will probably get it first is Jolla's phone, and the Nokia N9*
It's innovative and a breath of fresh air. After using the N9 for a couple years, then getting a chance to use an iPhone 4/5 for a couple years (company issued), and now after trying Android for over a year, I find both iOS and Android less intuitive than MeeGo -- I initially kept swiping to switch and close apps LOL.
I'm not sure how the pully menu system will feel in everyday usage, but at least it's innovative.

The pulley menu has sound and vibration. So you should really "feel" that your using it. I also think that this is an innovative way to use a menu instead of something on the screen like Android. This way there is more room for the content

I reckon it will be something like keyboard haptics + sound (and I assuming people will be able to disable both to extend battery life).
I really like the look and feel of the OS

I can tell you that after you get used to navigating the phone with you thumb it gets really natural. You don't need to "reach" to activate UI elements.

Get 4K back on YouTube!

YouTube version 5.18 puts back 1080p and 1440p for all.
(Thanks very much to @jruasap, he's the one who uploaded the APK!)
Instructions:
1. Settings>Application Manager> YouTube> Uninstall Updates
2. Install https://www.dropbox.com/s/k1z2y730k9cmqdo/youtube-5.9.0.10.apk
(make sure allow installation from unknown sources is checked in Security)
3. Uncheck Auto-Update on YouTube's Play Store Page.
4. BEFORE OPENING clear YT's data in the Application Manager.
4. Enjoy and hit "THANKS" if I helped!
INSTRUCTIONS FROM THIS POINT ARE COURTESY OF @Syntax323
If you have the option for 1080 and 1440p, it does work! Just because it doesn't switch instantly does not mean it doesn't work.
Youtube changed, they don't switch instantly anymore. It buffers in the background, and while watching it will switch automatically.
Though, that is ONLY if your connection is fast enough. Just because you're on 5ghz, doesn't mean your download speed is fast. That is just a faster radio frequency your router is putting out.
You have to realize you're trying to stream 1080 and 1440p which is very high detail, meaning the file sizes are huge. So, if your download speed isn't fast enough to download it/buffer while watching than it isn't going to switch.
This is a little 'trick' I do to 'force' it to go I to 1080/1440p whenever I want.
"Forcing" LG G3 into 1440p:
http://youtu.be/e9aIf7Uq378
Given, my download speed is 25-35mbps.
Do a speed test, and post. You're results. If you're only getting like 8-10 chances are it isn't gonna buffer 1440p. Wont be able to catch up.
Okay, here is 2nd Solution if my first post didn't work for you. Only do this if my steps did NOT work for you.
Move on to step 5 ONLY if 1080p/1440p are still not showing for you.
5. Only do the following steps if the above does not work for you still.
6. Download YouTube 5.9.0.13.apk from here -> https://www.dropbox.com/s/qh23f5yaajv5dlh/com.google.android.youtube-5.9.0.13.apk?dl=0
7. Now unlike the above DO NOT uninstall updates.
8. Once finished downloading, go ahead and open it and install it, again do NOT uninstall prior versions/updates of youtube.
9. Once installed, like above do NOT open.
10. Go to settings -> Apps -> All -> YouTube -> clear data
11. Open YouTube, find 4k video (GoPro has some particularly dazzling videos) You should now have 1080p/1440p again.
12. Enjoy and hit "THANKS" if I helped, and thank @Syntax323!
Didn't work. Not sure why. I uninstalled and installed the download. Nothing changed. Still 720p max on a known 1440p video

Hey, for everyone its not working for.
Follow steps, it will work.
1. Uninstall updates
2. Install APK in link from the OP
3. Don't auto update....dur
4. BEFORE opening the app, go into settings -> Appear -> All -> YouTube -> Clear cache -> Clear Data
For some reason clearing cache and data after installing the 5.9.0.10 and before running it fixes it. I had same problem and everything I did wouldn't work. Even clearing cache and data after I ran it didn't work. Have to install it, than clear, than run it and you will have 1440p back.

Well, this only sort of worked. I was able to get 1080p and 1440p options to appear, but choosing them does nothing. The videos, even those with 1440p in the description, still play at 480p or 720p. It's like YouTube is going out of its way to keep the UHD videos from being played.

No, that's good! It works, trust me!
What its doing is trying to load it. 1 video in 1440p is very large. Your download speed on internet had to be fast to be able to play it. Even 1080p. So even when you click it, its going to go to the closest resolution to play so you can continue to watch while its loading the resolution you selected.
When you load a video, select 1440p, than drag the little thing to the beginning of the video so it starts from beginning.
Trust me, 1080p and 1440p are working for you, they are just buffering in background.
Or, after you select it, it will switch to it automatically when it buffers enough. Just have to have fast speeds on wifi or lte.
That's good. So it worked for you.
You better have unlimited data if you try using LTE. The videos are MASSIVE.

I disagree with you. It's not working. In the past, when I've chosen a higher resolution video, YouTube immediately paused for a second or two while it buffered. It's not doing that. When I click on 1080p or 1440p the video just keeps playing. Also, if I go back to the settings to choose the resolution again it shows that I have 480p or 720p playing, not the high resolution I wanted and clicked on previously.. Furthermore, there is no visible change in resolution, something that I was able to see in the past. I truly believe YouTube has simply disabled the ability to watch videos above 720p - at least via mobile devices.

It had to be pretty high to play.
You want me to take a video of me showing you what I mean, and how I play 1440p on my g3? Cause it does work. Its worked for 10-15 others I've helped as-well.
All of them said same thing as you, but it doesn't switch instantly anymore. It does what Netflix does now. You know, when you see the quality changing... when its pixelated than it gets hd without even pausing...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zwanoo.android.speedtest
If your download speed is not that fast, you'll never get it to play. Its just the way it is now. I'm getting 35mbps down so it plays without a hitch for me.

Here is a screenshot I just now took playing in 1440p the Gopro video I posted above.
Mine seems to switch to 1080p/1440p easier in landscape than it does in portrait for some reason though.
Also, if YouTube disabled it, you wouldn't be getting the 1080p/1440p option at all.
Its not like we are doing a hack, or modified apk. There is nothing crazy going on here, its not a glitch. Its straight from there own app .
Plus, 1440p still works on pc, and other phones np. I'm guessing it was a bug that is happening here.
They wouldn't disable it for the LG G3, when LG has been a partner with Google making the Nexus' and main selling point of this phone is it's screen.
So, its not disabled. Just has a hard time playing if not on a fast/stable connection.

You must be the lucky one. And I appreciate your effort. But it just won't work. I have 1080p and 1440p as options, but clicking on them doesn't change to that resolution. It stays at the original lower resolution. Honestly, though, it's not a big deal for me. I don't watch YouTube videos all that often and watching at the highest resolution isn't a priority for me.

Dude, my apologies. It is working. I now see what you mean by it buffering in the background while continuing to play the lower resolution video. It's nearly 1am here, I worked 15.5 hours today, and I just took two percocet to ease the pain from my 13 week old broken leg. In any event, thanks for your effort here. I hope others stumble upon this thread. Cheers friend.

Amazon Prime Instant Video - KODI/XBMC

Yesterday by accident I found a thread on kodi forums with new release from some guy and I checked it first on my phone to see if prime is working and it indeed does work.
But there are some issues some videos might not play so hopefully the guy who did it updates it or fixes it but I just spent last 30 min on my fire tv testing what works and what does not
Here is what you do in order to get it to work on your Fire TV:
1) Download this zip (repo) and put it somewhere on your fire TV:
Link: https://code.google.com/p/addonscri...=repository.addonscriptorde-beta.zip&can=2&q=
2) Go to add-ons on your kodi/xbmc and install the repo
3) go to settings addons - get addons and download the Amazon Prime Instant Video from "Video-Addons" inside AddonSCriptorde Beta Repo
4) launch the prime addon select it as USA, set your settings like quality etc... then it should ask you to LOG-IN after you select US.
5) You should be able to browse tv shows/movies etc..
6) upon selecting play for certain movie/tv-show episode it should ask you to switch to Flash Player (no idea how it works on Fire TV) or any other android device without flash.
On my phone I don't have flash but on my fire tv I do and they both work.
Note: without prime instant access you can view things like Pilot episodes to test it out.
Now we need someone who can try and see why some videos will play and why some won't
Someone who is smart dig into these logs when some videos don't play and tell us what to do about it
What is the advantage here? Prime is standard app on the FireTV. Just curious.
Curious as to why someone would want to use an xbmc add-on for Amazon Instant Video when AIV is one of the core features of the Fire TV? I use built-in AIV all the time and it works great. Why use some hack add-on that will never be nearly as reliable as the official app? Do you not like the built-in AIV? I'm genuinely curious. Could be missing out on something here...

In my case I am not a biggest fan of the KFTV Launcher I actually like the way it is made on Kodi with that plugin.
It's just me maybe there are some other people who prefer it that way

Just wanted to post it so some people are aware of it.:good:
You can add Videos from the addon to your library just like they are local stored. So you can extend your local movies with amazon instant links.
You don't have to switch between your library and amazon Instant.
Adding ALL amazon Videos to library is not implented yet, i'm working on it

There are other but require to use real version of chrome not mobile.
It somehow uses chrome then passes video to kodi/xbmc addon.
I would give this dev some time he will for sure fix it. This is already one of the best I have seen.
This plugin broke the genesis plugin for me. .. would be great to have this working. specially when the AFTV skin for Kodi is released.

I don't see anyway this could break another plugin which is weird. And yea I tried googling for the aftv skin for kodi but all they do is show bunch of youtube videos.. I would gladly even pay few bucks for this.
With root this could be huge adding android apps etc.. making kodi act like a launcher.
This would be great for those with rooted devices who may one day be able to upgrade to CM12 / Android TV ROM. I am fairly certain that this upgrade will eliminate access to the current Fire TV Launcher and Amazon content. It would be nice to be able to access Amazon Prime if and when CM12 is possible from other sources.
Anyway to get this to pass 5.1 sound information to my receiver?
Or can that data not be captured from the Flash version of Prime.
This is very worth while if it works. Lots of people like to boot right into Kodi. Plus I hate just about everything about KFTV launcher. I think it's too tedious to navigate. The voice search was a great idea and the tech is perfect at picking up your voice but it often yields a bunch of results that you need to pay extra for. I think kodi has the best interface.
Hi I am from India and I have a Indian prime video account. Will this add-on work for that??

Yes. Please see below:
This special version of FOX Sports allows streaming of the World Cup in 4K, exclusive to the 2018 Hisense USA H9E Plus range based around the MediaTek MT5597 running Android TV 8.0 Oreo, as discussed at https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/06/12/hisense-h9-plus-4k-tvs-android-tv-now-available
As described at https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/8qltha , this unedited APK was pulled by /u/whatpens from their brand new retail TV.
However, /u/Ogreentech21 's LeEco Android TV returns the error, "You are not allowed to view this resource" and it also doesn't work on /u/suyo123 's NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV, nor (perhaps understandably) on /u/alanzeino 's Amazon Fire TV 4K.
Can any XDA-Developers users remove the device check? I have also submitted the APK to APKMirror to see if anyone there possesses this ability.
Thank you all for your help.

Sorry. Never mind.
I got it working and put together a guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/...o_get_fox_sports_world_cup_4k_apk_working_on/
Do you guys know if the app only works on the Hisense H8E model? And not the H8 model?
Most of the articles I read about the World Cup edition app mention that it works on the H6E and H8E model, but no mention of the H8 model. But just looking at what you changed on the APK to make it work, it seems like the H8 should be able to install the WC app and stream in 4k, correct?
Granted both models are the same price, but the H8 model is available today at a store near me, the H8E will have to be ordered.. and the World Cup won't wait a week for the TV to get here!!
Thanks in advance.
Anyway to get this working on Sony 900e?
It would a charm if it was possible to modify the apk so that the check is bypassed completely. While rooting nvidia shield might be an option, for most android TVs it isn't so easy.

No. Somewhat choppy for me. And audio is half a second slow. But I’m addicted to the sharpness and clarity so I’m watching it anyway.
I read it’s becuase it’s shot in European 50hz and in the us we have 60hz. Tried adjusting motion settings but nothing works.
To stop stuttering, in the app goto video and select a specific speed and resolution. Setting to Auto will cause stuttering. I have mine set to 4k (~19mbps) and it does not stutter.
