So I really like the Google Play, but it puts all my songs that do not have an Album under the Album "Music". So when I go in the Artist section it forces them all to be under the same artist essentially.
I looked at some others, but they are God awfully ugly. I love how the Google one looks, but hate the functionality.
I do agree with you. The inability to organize your music/albums is lacking. I still feel it's better then most other music player's...at least with what I've tried so far.
Try PowerAmp
My recommendation is PowerAmp, absolutely the best music player I've ever used by far. It costs 4 bucks for the full version which is definitely worth it in my opinion, but you can see how good it is with the free version.
Sleek awesome UI with a few skins, it has just about every configuration setting you could need, tons of music folder organization and scan options, sorting options, the best equalizer on the market. Supports tons of music formats too. Plus the devs are great they gave me a full refund to rebuy the app on a new google account when I switched. It's got an awesome homescreen widget too. My personal favorite feature is the instant queue which lets you add music to a rolling playlist for when the current song ends.
For what you are looking for, it doesn't actually manipulate folders. It scans all the music in whatever directories you allow it to look, and then creates a virtual database within the apps. It does an excellent job of reading file tags though, so it almost always gets my songs organized properly even if they are named awkwardly. It also gives you the ability to edit the tags through the app which would fix any files organized incorrectly.
Give the free version a try before you even look at anything else I literally can't rant enough about how much I love it, easily my favorite and most used app
Google Play Store - PowerAmp (Free Version)
I've used 4 or 5 players now including PowerAmp, but Z Player is easily my favorite. Although some may be turned off by it's Zune-esque layout, I find it easier to find the songs I want to listen to quickly. The dev is very responsive and updates fairly frequently. It may not have all the bells and whistles if you need maximum control over your audio, but does have a simple eq and a sleek, enjoyable layout. Allows editing of ID3 tags and simple playlist creation as well. For style, layout, and simplicity, Z Player can't be beat. For more control, PowerAmp may be for you, . 5 stars from me.

Love PowerAmp! It is pretty nice, the UI is not a good as Google's IMO, but it is still better than most. Do you know of any good equalizer settings? Something for like generally everything.

I agree that stock eq settings are great and normalized for general listening, and always good to fall back on, but truthfully with the extensive settings poweramp gives, if you get the settings right you can get exceptional sound quality you won't believe. PowerAmp and the eq support up to FLAC (Lossless Quality), which on my nice sennheiser headphones or speakers, especially at higher volumes, makes a noticable difference when the EQ is set the right way. On the other hand, I am also a bit of an audiophile so I probably obsess a little more than most
Anyway, if you want to tweak I would suggest starting with the 'rock' eq preset, with 'tone' on and 'limit' on, and working from there. It has slightly lower mids and slightly higher low and high bands. Many people will also suggest raising the bass and treble settings a bit to the same effect. Obviously different types of music will all have different perfect settings, but this is a good general starting place. I find its fun to mess around with the levels while listening to a song which you can do because the eq updates in realtime in poweramp.
There are plenty of threads with people discussing the same thing, take a look at these if you're interested:

I don have a really high standards for music players, I am not particular with equalizers as well. But what I wanted in a music player is how you are able to organize your playlist. Specifically, everytime I add songs to my Main playlist, I want it to be on top of the list and I dont want to go through all the hassle of moving each and every song from bottom to top.
any suggestions?

Hey Eia, I must once again throw PowerAmp into the ring. My number one app out of the entire store, it has more options and functions than you could ever hope to need, and still a beautiful UI. You are specifically looking for playlist sort options? Check out the screenshot I am attaching, I believe the function you would want is the 'sort by date added' function I am showing. Cheers.

I would have to say go with PowerAmp. And if your phone is rooted then d/l BeatsDSP. Basically turns your headphones into $150 BeatsbyDre. BeatsDSP are enable by PowerAmp and they work great together.

PowerAMP is really great.
Anyway, no matter what music player you take, dont forget to combine it with a voodoo sound app/kernel
Thanks guys, got the full voodoo app, just wish there was 1 app to play, download, recognise, show lyrics and allow you to place library where you wanted, would pay a lot for that, sigh!

MIUI or Winamp - I use both
i love the look of the MIUI music player its really nice, with some nice features
And Winamp lets me sync with my PC so i have all my music from my hard drive sent to my phone via WiFi - love this feature
Definitely PowerAmp. It's worthed. Best sound quality and features.

i too love stock player, with one major issue thou, if choose albums, or folders view, and switch to thumbnail view, and than exit player, it doesn't remember where i was, but open 'ALL view' every time player starts, it's really retarded behavior, from eclair to froyo, all the same
is there any workaround for this?
DoubleTwist
mortplayer if you wan t play folders
C3 if you like a good visual interface
Another vote for PowerAMP...just an excellent all around player with a great EQ and presets.

PowerAmp, I've tried loads but none of them really match it, having said that I use FLAC rather than mp3. Player Pro is another decent alternative
meridian, why?
one may say it is ugly but
you can build playlist by picking files
you can play folders
you can select cue playlist
it can also play flac files
and it is also very good for video
i've only used stock SGS player and poweramp so far (both with voodoo sound module) and, regarding audio quality, the stock player is by far superior in my opinion.
just compare them by yourself and you'll find out how much weaker poweramp sounds.
there's also the new music player from launcherpro's dev, which has a really well done zune/metro interface. it's really smooth and it comes with widget, artworks download etc..it will also feature an EQ in the next builds if you are on gingerbread. on froyo you can use voodoo hw EQ which will come in the next realeases of the app.

PowerAmp is great, but once it gets running it never wants to quit. Has anybody figured out how to stop it from running in the background, and draining juice after you quit.? It's the main reason I stick with the stock player, which has a bunch of features if you dig deep enough.
DoubleTwist, simple and powerfull, free and combining a lot of features. Good replacement for the stock player.

just type "music player" without "" in the market and scroll down. you ´ll find it quick because of its short name.
It cant download music but it has the best design for me and an equalizer. Its free and AD-free.

SGS with Voodoo my experience and help required!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have SGS with Voodoo for last couple of months. Would love to share my experience here:
With Voodoo sound takes quantum leap from stock
I am at 2.2 froyo and Voodoo control at the moment. It has good mid range, punchy with my Brainwavz M2 and better than most phones I have ever heard, still not as detailed as most reviews make me believe
With control plus (I bought it few days back), sound quality deteriorated for me. Very muddy. So, i revoked superuser permission went back to free ver and it is much better
Yesterday tried to compare iPhone 4 with my SGS, same song, Brainwavz M2 and Senn CX 400 as earphones. I dont like to admit but iPhone was much better than SGS - Bass, clarity, stereo effect (Most pronounced); I noticed some parts which I never thought were there. SGS was much louder for sure but over all I was a bit dissapointed with SGS.
My questions to people in forum - is it my earphone? Am I doing anything wrong? I am in Darky's 9.5 with kernel having voodoo sound implementation.
I use stock and poswer amp and feel without any eq or effects, poweramp is a bit better than stock although stock's ui (in Darky's rom) is much better
Can my SGS sound as good as iPhone 4? I had huge hopes before gettign SGS after reading views of people in XDA and here. Overall I would still buy SGS again, it beats iPhone every other parameter..but SQ is close to my heart!
I couldnt post this in dev's forum as i am new and I feel most of the others here would know better than me
Any answers are welcome!
Is there any iPod touch look-a-like players? I love the ui of my Touch music player and would like to get similar to my SGS when I get it soon...
PowerAMP and the one from miui are very good
Stuff you may not have noticed in the new update:
Overview:
Sammobile have leaked Samsung's 4.1.2 update for the Galaxy SII today, it's a long awaited updated that, in my opinion, has completely changed the phone. I was disappointed when Ice Cream Sandwich was released as it appeared Samsung had put minimal effort into the update, the UI felt outdated and I personally preferred running CM9. For the first time since Gingerbread I am absolutely in love with the Samsung's stock ROM!
Whether it was Samsung's choice or one of Apple's stupid patents the entire UI for the SII, Note and some other devices have got the new Nature UX found first on the SIII. Most noticeably the TW Launcher, notification bar and title bar layout has been changed, but overall the entire OS looks much fresher and cleaner. I have personally not encountered any lag in this leak and it appears Project Butter is working fine, there are a few blips here and there such as lock screen lag/unresponsiveness. Without a doubt this is the smoothest my SII has been since I first bought it and it feels brand new again!
** Of course this is test firmware and is not recommended for daily use **
Some features you may not know about:
Vibration Patterns:
Under settings > sound > device vibration you'll find this menu, here you can change the vibration pattern of the phone.
If the presets aren't right for you, you can create your own custom ones by clicking on create under the above menu.
Changing the lock screen shortcuts
To change these go to settings > lock screen > lock screen options > shortcuts.
Hold your finger down on the preset icons and drag the old ones to the trash, click on the + sign to add your own.
Adding Facebook to the lock screen:
First you must have Facebook installed and you must be logged in.
To activate it navigate to settings > lock screen > lock screen options > information ticker > contents type > Facebook
You may need to refresh on the lock screen its self.
Personalising the Messaging App:
Open up the Messaging app, press menu and select settings - here you'll find a few settings.
Bubble style:
Background style:
Dropbox:
Samsung have kindly teamed up with Dropbox to give us 50GB of free storage. This would cost you a fair bit to buy so take it up even if you aren't a user, it's a really useful cloud app. I'm sure you're greeted with it during first boot, if not it can be added as an account under the settings menu.
Quick access to the camera:
This is activated under settings > lock screen > lock screen options > camera quick access
I can't post a screenshot as I don't have enough hands... At the lock screen, place one finger on the screen and rotate the camera 90 degrees to launch the camera.
Did Samsung forget the ripple lock feature?!
No, they did not. I'm sure it will be included by default several releases down the line but remember this is test firmware. I can't stand 240dpi, so the first thing I did was change to a lower one - 180. Once rebooted the ripple lock worked! If I have some free time this week I shall make a multi dpi TW Launcher and dialer as everything else appears to work without modification.
Would I recommend it?
To put it bluntly, yes! I've been using it for a few hours with no problems what so ever, of course if you want to protect your warranty do not. You do risk bricking your phone and starting World War III, so do so with caution. I'm sure all of you Gingerbread lovers will enjoy this too!
Hopefully some of you found this helpful, thanks!
I just want to thank you for having a *CLEAN* thread (formatting, screenies, English quality).
There's a gazillion of threads here that hurt my eyes to look at.
I'll thank you once again, once you do get those multi-dpi phone and twlauncher. Also, the messaging apk is also a bit strange under 160dpi.
I havent tried 160 yet, will have a look into it

Er sammobile dint get it first == a xda member did...
so how do you change teh DPI and why would you change it?
whats the difference?
also you forgott about Allshare Play
thats the biggest thing that have ever happend to the S2
For me stock browser crashes if i try 180 dpi, 160 and 240 works fine.
Also The clock crashes for me eveytime i try to turn og an alarm both at 240 and 160 dpi.
Am I the only one having this problems? If not do you know if it can be fixed like the dailer?
Just wanted to point out that other than that it works awesome for me.

Yes I got that too, but there is another 'cloud" setting in settings, I was just wondering if you use this to back up Samsung settings or whatever.
using this awesome rom
i liked stock more than aokp and cm because of camera quality, and now they hav added new features..its cool
but i hav a concern..i ma using perfmon and what i observed is that cpu remains on 800mhz most of the time while using the phone(not when screen is off)..as i hav flashed stock kernel after a long time interval, its weird for me..but i dont know, may be stock kernel are designed this way only..
scrolling is also very good..but msging app has very poor scrolling...the audio quality of speakers is definitely better..video player is awesome..just loving this rom..waiting for a kernel from dorimanx or Gm..but they need source of kernel
SO PLEASE INFORM THEM IF U HAPPEN TO KNOW ABOUT IT...thnx
Ok, in light of my recent hair-pulling problems with CM10.1 lately, I have decided to give to the community instead of taking from it.
The Mega-Audiorific Atrix Discussion Thread
Drumroll please... Wait... How could I forget about the bass.
If you are lazy with listening to music (shame on you), skip to 0:56
This thread is here for 2 reasons.
Code:
1. It is hard to find the information I'm about to provide.
2. I want people to provide their insight on anything music related to the Atrix such as the following:
Examples:
* What music player app do you like the most on your Atrix?
* What audio format do you listen to normally (MP3, FLAC) with it?
* What apps make your music sound better on the Moto Atrix?
* What rom makes the audio sound the best for you?
* What music sounds the best on your Atrix?
To keep this thread in this subforum however, and not the General Android Discussion section,
I ask that you only provide answers to these questions regarding the Atrix, and make that known.
This is not a "I love this artist!" or "I don't think you know very much about music." thread.
Please keep replies to a minimum, so that this does not get flooded with flamers or Nazi's (no offense meant...sorry if I offended).
Everyone has their opinion, and they have the right to defend it, but they don't have the right to attack with it.
Be mature. Pushing opinions on others will get you nowhere. Opinions are opinions, not facts.
Without further ado, let's get started.
And I will start with the main reason audio sounds generally better with your Atrix.
The reason your Atrix sounds so good is... (dun dun duuuuuh...badum ch!!)
The Atrix 4G has a dedicated audio chip in it! =3 It's a medium-low end Wolfson chip.
Hard to find the info for it, but I wanted to know what made PowerAMP with FLAC
sound so good compared to an iPhone with ALAC. (both with equalizer off, charger port on iPhone -> Audio jack/headphones)
If you do some digging, you'll find this to be true.
I'm going to miss my Atrix when it becomes time to move on to another phone
I have my eyes set on the HTC One X+ or the Samsung Galaxy S4,
depending on what my budget is when the time comes.

Cool. I haven''t heard of XenoAMP. I'll check it out.
I guess I can answer the questions with my answers. Also, future readers, please don't think that you have to use these questions, specifically. This is a discussion thread! It's not just a poll!
1: I've used PowerAMP since I got into FLAC. For me, nothing has beaten the audio quality and ranges I can get out of PowerAMP.
2: I guess I answered this in #1 and my OP. I love and always will use FLAC. With that said, the best way to do this is to purchase the CDs yourself! To be honest, most local CDs are the same price, or even less expensive, than iTunes or other markets (Import albums, of course, cost more usually). Not only that, but you get upwards 10x the quality! How can you beat that? Seriously, try sticking an official CD (not burned from iTunes) in your car radio, if you have one, and hear the difference for yourself!
Of course, I understand that MP3's are way smaller, and going along with what andresrivas said, not everyone has a 16+GB SD card. xD
3: I will say that when I used to use GB, and I was testing out audio, I didn't feel like spending time working on PowerAMP's 10-band equalizer. It was just too much. So, I looked into other apps, and found that Equalizer helped to make things sound better, using its 5 band equalizer and many presets that I actually used to use. Check it out if you're looking for a better equalizer for your entire phone! (I'm guessing XenoAMP does something similar?)
4: Actually, recently I trying CM9 out (krystianp's version with the 3.1.10 kernel), and my phone sounded better than I heard it immediately upon restoring my PowerAMP app+data through TiBu (Titanium Backup) Pro. It was amazing, and I hadn't even changed the usual preset's settings that I used. For some reason, CM10.1 by Epinter doesn't sound as good though, which saddens me...
5: Drum & Bass. The phone and the audio systems I regularly use are able to really pick up those residual base backgrounds along with the short, punchy beats up front. Also, Hifana's albums sound amazing! You can check one of their songs out here, if you're interested. I linked to track 12 because it's awesome and shows you their style, but you will need to sign in to listen. I highly recommend this site for listening, because it's much higher quality than Youtube (almost lossless, it feels like), and they have a lot of albums available for free listening...
If you want more of Hifana, listen to that whole album, and then check out their Channel H album. All of their music is good, in my opinion.

You should try searching the forums, something like "Atrix 4G no sound" or "Atrix 4G sound issue". Adding your rom name or searching "stock" in addition to those might help if they apply to you.
I realize that you're just commenting on your situation (and not asking for support). Thanks for this.
If you're on stock, I can't help you much anyways. I haven't used stock Atrix in 2 years. I would search first, as per XDA rules/requests (plus it's just being courteous), then ask in the Atrix Q & A section of the forum. Perhaps a rom reinstall might help? (You can Factory Reset without rooting/unlocking bootloader)
Make sure to read instructions in the General threads, and of course the Beginners' Guide. They might help as well.
Just thought I'd try to help
(For future readers) This is in the general section, so support questions don't apply here. I'd also prefer not to have support question clutter. (I know you weren't exactly doing so, crack.mech )

Thanks for the suggestions Drakonas. I have been flashing different ROMs for a while now, and it doesn't seem to help. Though I hear some sort of crackling noise through the headset when I turn up the volume to full while playing music. As per my (re)search this seems to be a flex cable issue, but seems a bit wierd, as the speaker is not connected via flex cable ( I have opened up my atrix a few times!1 ). So I seriously doubt replacing the flex cable would help. But except for the audio issues, my atrix is still going strong, all thanks to the great developer community here.
And, I am seriously sorry to hijack this thread. Please accept my apologies.

Did you try to connect your atrix through an external portable amplifier? This may help.

1. Yep... I like it too.
2. Hey, whatever suits your preference.
3. Yeah, with some tweaking of it, you can get good sound. (This is from/for CyanogenMod roms for those who don't know) If I'm listening to music with PowerAMP, though, I don't like DSP Manager on. It's my preference, since I've customized PowerAMP's 10-band equalizer myself, vs DSP Manager's 5-band equalizer. Running 10-band through 5-band can defeat the purpose of the 10-band, but it depends I suppose.
4. Love CyanogenMod! Are you using a popular rom, by chance? I don't have the knowledge to customize a rom yet, so I usually just use one of the pre-built roms out there. My favorite for CM7 on the Atrix was Neutrino, but I changed to Atrix-MROM because it had the same battery-life and even better performance for me. Plus, the developer knows more what he's doing. He's part of the new 4.0 Kernel Project team.
5. I don't really listen to heavy metal, not anymore at least. I guess I grew up around teens that listened to it and thought it was the most amazing thing ever. (plus they often didn't care to try any other music. This probably differs you from them, hopefully ) I soon learned that there are thousands and possibly millions of styles of music out there, and there's more around every doorstep. I've spent the last 5 years building my music tastes, and I've switched favorite genres about 20 times, until I found the underground 20-year-old Drum & Bass scene.
But to each their own. Any specific artists that you like? I used to listen to DragonForce a lot, but I guess that's more Power Metal than Heavy Metal.

1. Hey, saving music in the cloud can be really useful. I guess the only reason I wouldn't want to is (A) I prefer FLAC which isn't usually provided and (B) I don't have a data plan currently, so playing on the go would be impossible. I have a lot of space anyways... I suppose you have a phone without much space to hold music?
2. Again, space. Plus I suppose it's the best format to use with Play Music.
3. Yeah, DSP really helps with MP3. I agree. I will say that if you get better headphones, you'll get better bass and clarity. I recommend some $10 to $20 Koss in-ear headphones for the lowest price, if you're not the person to have money laying around. Off-brand are usually crap, like Skullcandy. And for goodness sakes, if you want high-end headphones don't buy Beats by Dr. Dre. It is well known that they are overpriced pieces of crap compared to what you could get for half (or even less) of the price. Get some Audio-Technica Over-the-ears if you have that kind of money.
4. I love MROM. Best CM7 for Atrix in my opinion.
5. Nice! Make sure you check out Autechre and Flying Lotus, if you haven't already!

Sorry for my bad English
How about adding links to all music enhancers... i.e. dsp manager, beats, voodoo or what ever else they have for Atrix... And I know voodoo is not for Atrix...
Sent 4rm My O.G. Atrix on it's Lapdock using Weptop+... Which let me add is so Extra F***ing Beast... Galaxy S4 can't touch this...
Atrix MROM with Shure E4c
Nice to know there are still Atrix fans. I am addicted to the sound quality delivered by Moto Atrix since 2011. Now I have three of it (one 2.3.4 as mobile, one MROM with minor touch screen defect as music player and one brand new as spare).
music app -> DoomPlay (it plays additional ALAC, 24bit96 WAV, BUT play mp3 may distort);
audio format -> mainly 16_44 WAV, some ALAC;
app sound better -> DSP manager with enabled bass boost set moderate, enabled equaliser set acoustic;
rom sound best -> MROM with DSP manager
best music sounds -> M.J., The Carpenters, Korea OST like ht tps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6n5Ho9n9OPM
Moto Atrix drives my shure E4c earphone pretty well. No portable amplifier required.
Instead of MROM, I find the music sound seems a bit better from my Atrix 2.2.2.
I can feel the pure silence, position is more accurate and more crisp clear.
Just curious to see what everyone's running. I was using Google play Music until it started disorganizing my music a couple days ago in ABC order instead of actual tracklist order. So now I use nice player! What do you guys use?

I mainly use google play music because I have most of my music stored on the cloud, but for local I used to use PowerAmp which was awesome and sometimes I use Maple - it has some really cool features like pitch and speed adjustment.
but I think theres already a thread on this somewhere, in the apps section so you should probably look there
I hate how Google Play music makes it so hard just to get to the All Songs list. I think it requires at least three or four button presses, which I might be doing wrong but it's annoying to do if it really is that way.

I agree with this. I wish Google made the music app similar to those in TouchWiz or Sony xperias. Although I don't like the UI of Play Music, I'm kind of forced to use it due the N4's limited storage and Play's free song upload feature.

It's either been locked or disappeared forever, like this thread will be.
Shuttle+ is the best on my opinion, design, options and functions.
There is a thread made in themes and app section for all you guys.. It will help you all for knowing yhe various Music app people use..:good:
I use power amp and think it's totally worth the money. And yeah what other people said, there's a thread about this in the themes and apps forum where you can read about it there.
I personally went with power amp because the other media players annoyed me with the wrong album art work and would display the same artwork for all songs even though the artwork was completely irrelevant

Play Music. its simple and doesnt eat a lot of battery compare to 3rd part music apps -_-.
Play Music + Viper4android as my equalizer. Doesn't eat a lot of battery and it makes your 10 in ear earphones sound like Hi-end headphones.
I use Google Play Music now since I subscribed to All Access. But if I was using local files I'd be using PowerAmp.
Today by luck i discovered that note 3 music player plays one of my mp3 file with a distortion. First i thought it was my machine or the samsungs earpieces that come with the phone. i tried earpieces with my old note one and it had no problem then i tried same file with my wives and friends note 3 phones and all of the them have the same problem. Then i tried with poweramp and it works like a charm.
So after this information my question is "What is the best free music player for Note 3?"
thank you.

actually i liked it and i can pay for it but i prefer using folders while choosing my music and it show lots of unnecessary folders. that made me not to buy it.
I know you said free, but seriously for 1,000 reasons I think PlayerPro Music Player is the best one out there. Worth every cent - been using it for years.
I especially love how it allows you to select and download various skins, as well as customize what views/browsers displayed. I also think it has the nicest widgets.
