somehow htc have managed to surprise me everytime they released a flagship but this camera just looks bad

They're using that render that some guy created based on the rumored appearance leaked by upleaks (or was it evleaks?).

Am currently watching the HTC One announcement of their new phone. Have to say, looks pretty awesome, seriously considering cancelling my xz order and waiting for the HTC. I have had the HTC One and the HTC One X before, both have awesome screens, and when all the forum posts about the quality, or lack of quality, depending on which post your read, of the xz's screen. Hmmmm, decisions decisions.

TBH I was thinking the same not long ago but after hearing the new HTC has no memory card slot and only 32gb version. Im not interested atleast 64gb like one x+ would have changed my mind.

I'm sticking me the XZ, yes the HTC One looks nice etc but I change is due for me, this year will be the year for Sony I believe!

Better looking (i think)
Water/dust proof (not really something I need)
SD-card
Better dev support
less customized version of android, so possible faster roll out of new versions
HTC One pros
Newer SOC / faster/ less power
Better Screen
More internal memory
probably better speakers (not that i care)
infrared (not that i care)
As for the camera we don't know which will be better, and I don't really care as in the end all camera phones are rubbish
I'm not sure what to do, but looking at the hardware spec list the HTC is the one to get

Like I said, to me it looks better, no sense in arguing about taste
HTC is famous for being late with the release of kernel source and when they do it is often in a non compilable state, Sony is quicker and better in this respect .

It looks better to you is cool but to say sony will roll out updates sooner and better Dev support is funny.
HTC has a large Dev community, LARGE. Mike 1986 is a known HTC guy, and we all know him. And its just one guy that I'm mentioning. This argument about release of kernel source is what you sony guys keep talking about, yet all previous Sony devices aren't relevant today.

I guess it is where you after for most post xperia X10 devices you can get nightlies from CM. and the free xperia guys are doing excellent work to make that happen. You are able to get Android 4.2 on your arc (early 2011) possibly older devices as well, but I don't know as I don't have one. If you count the number of cooked roms it might be less than the one x but that doesn't say anything
Ok finally made my decision! HTC One great!!!!!!!! Non removeable battery? Ok rejected! Sticking with Xperia ZL now once and for all!

Yes, but many HTC Devices have jellybean too. My DHD has jellybean and it is a 3 year old device.
PLUS the Chinese HTC Scene is huge.

Unfortunately, and by all accounts the M7 leaves the Z far behind. A superior screen, Camera, Sound Quality and Loudness, not to mention build quality.
I don't see why anyone would purchase a Sony handset unless they are a fanboy, in which case it would be pointless arguing with an irrational person.
So it's time to retire the G2. I left the S4 for the G2. My first impression of the S4 was lagfest. Drove me insane. Does anyone think the S5 will be the same way?
Without being biased to Samsung, which device do you think will be a better phone? I am not brand loyal. When the announcement of the S5 was over I was highly disappointed and expected much more from them. I haven't had a HTC device since the EVO4g.

There is no better device, there's just a matter of preference. If you have a chance go to your local best buy and try the S5. Then go to a Verizon store tomorrow and try the M8 then pick which one you prefer.

How can one consider a HTC instead a Samsung/Sony/Nexus/Motorola device?
I am a Verizon customer so I cant do Sony. I also have a droid Maxx and it's just OK. No Nexus either with cdma

I have seen some camera samples from the M8 and they don't look that good.
4 MP is just not enough IMO, Ultrapixel or not.
Also, it's larger than the S5 and yet has a smaller screen and also On screen buttons.
But it's better that you look at both of them hands on before you decide.

Thank you. I guess I'm not the only idiot here because HTC is a Taiwanese/Chinese company. So HTC phones are literally, chinese.
But anyway, one of the main advantages the 2013 One had now is gone, the 2014 One lacks OIS, big fail.

the images from M8 looks even worse that m7 specially in low light AND no OIS #fail
It would seem that there is just alot of fanboys of sony and htc around, as I see people complaing that the s5 is a s4s and all this crap the plain turth is all of the 2014 phones are only a minor upgrade to last year and the m8 even less so.
I just came back from carphone warehouse tottenham court road where i played with the remote err i mean phone.
people say the s5 is zzzz, well this is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Phone is so very nearly the size of the note 3, it looks good in terms of the shape of the phone but the new material feels less premium than the m7 imo, it feels more plastic like compared to the m7. the htc logo argghh that logo such a waste of space and makes the phone bigger for no reason and uglier imo. the camera is rubbish.
sound quality is good though and the phone is loud and lots pf bass and clarity
screen looks good
phone memory is 16gb in uk with 9.53gb available (yet people complained about the s4) and yet sense 6.0 doesn't have as many features as the s4.
All in all imo its hte least interesting htc phone ive seen since the sensation. Wasn't impressed atall. I remember i was so excited when i played with the htc one last year that just after 3 mins i pre ordered it.
Htc m8 is a big let down in my eyes. Good design with poor camera quality. Hardly any cool software upgrades. This is not the way to sell HTC.

Updated memory and camera maybe? They could also get rid of the HTC branding on the front, make the device a little smaller with the same amount of screen.
Strange that they would release one so close to selling the M8. Could explain the rush in production.

Would also damage the phone sales of the M8 which would seem a strange decision.
Panic maybe....
It isn't the products. It's the marketing. Until they get a better marketing strategy they'll never take on Samsung. Plus they don't have the financial clout to take them on. Samsung spend big bucks advertising their products

The screen is worse than the M8 (lower brightness, worse contrast and viewing angles).
Their camera is horrible, when shooting pictures the right side is always out of focus. Even though they don't think it's the case for every M9, it says something about the QC of HTC. Besides that, the overall quality of the pictures are still far behind Samsung and others.
Worse battery than the M8, which seems to be because of the processor heating up.
And it's a whopping €750!!

Dude no offense, but looking at your forum history I can see that you have signed up a couple of days before the official announcement of S6, spend a good amount of time to praise the greatness of Sammy, flaming severely Apple and HTC, demonstrating quite good amount of in-depth knowledge without providing any sources (except few posts) and using a lot of marketing methods to influense the rest of the readers with your opinion.

Just avoid it and get the S6. If you hate Samsung, then get the M8. There is no reason to get the M9.

You're being overly optimistic, imo.
This is what you'll get at release. Software updates won't change the bad camera, overheating processor, and the bad battery life.

And you're 100% overreacting to a phone that's not out yet. Software can indeed improve everything you just listed. Take a chill pill and wait until the phone had been out for a few weeks. Ridiculous.
