Hey guys, sorry if this is a duplicate post but I'm trying to return to stock Verizon through restoring a backup and my phone gets stuck at the Verizon splash screen. I'm thinking it's because of the kernel
I rooted>safestraped>installed jasmine 2.4>flashed NC2 kernel via odin.
Jasmine runs fine, and honestly I like it a lot but I want to get better battery life so I need to revert to stock.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the kernel causing the issue where stock won't boot up fully?
And if I am, can you point me in the direction of an NC4 odin flashable kernel?
Thanks in advance

You can always flash the NC4 stock tar via Odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524572

Well I want to revert to stock but I want to go back to the backup I made.
Is there no way I can just flash the NC4 kernel to go back?

Good question. I'm a little new to the note 3 ...lol I switch phones a lot. I've had the same issue as you with restoring stock backup. It probably is kernel related due to having NC2 flashed to run custom builds. Maybe some else can chime in.

Hello guys,
I installed the ROM under this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288531&page=13
The flashing of the ROM was successful but the only thing that it's not working with this flash is that I'm unable to turn on my wifi feature.
Is there a way to fix this without remodifying the ROM?
Any help will do. Thanks guys!!

First just an FYI questions go in the QA section. This will be moved there by a Mod so just giving you a heads up. Were you on MDC or MDL before you flashed the rom?

That's what I was thinking. That Rom is MDC based. So you have MDL Firmware but MDC System. If you want to stick with that rom here is what I would do. Make a backup. Odin the stock MDC tar twice, don't ask just better this way . Install custom recovery back on. Restore only the system. You should be fixed. Or you could probably get away with just installing the MDC Kernel. You can find the tar and kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256514
Flash a custom kernel and your Wifi will work.

That's a great suggestion there crawjr. I will try the kernal suggestion first if anything. Even though i feel uncomfortable messing with the kernel system. Sorry for the noob questions I haven't been on this page for ages since the G2 was first released lol. :good:
I currently have a brand new Canadian S4 with the MDJ firmware/baseband version.
Most of the roms are MDL based.
Do i have to change the base firmware/baseband to MDL before flashing and MDL rom ?
My goad is to install CleanRom wich is MDL based.
Thanks for the guidance.

You can just flash the ROM. Just make a Nandroid backup first. Some ROM's come with a custom kernel and you may need to flash a Canadian kernel directly after flashing the ROM.

I did get the original Kernel file for my cell provider. It is a TAR file with boot.img into it.
What is the easyest way to apply it after flashing the Rom in TWRP ?
Thanks

TARs are flashed with Odin or Mobile Odin.

If you are flashing the STOCK firmware for your specific carrier it will include the STOCK kernel.
If you are using a custom ROM like Mint Jelly or something, I'd say flash Adam kernel after flashing the ROM. You won't want to flash a STOCK kernel with a custom ROM.
Did you end up updating to MDL?
I also have the MDJ kernel and I installed CleanRom, I now cannot get wifi and TWRP will not boot in recovery mode. I thought it would be easier just to update to MDL to get wifi but mobile Odin did not work.
Thank you

No I did not,
Truthfully I am a pretty big Noob to all of this and was afraid of changing my kernel to MF3 from MDJ. I really didn't know how that would affect my phone / carrier situation here in Canada. The main problem was that I could not get the phone into recovery mode. Turns out I just needed to re-root the phone. So when I got the phone to actually go into recovery I jumped at the CM Rom. When I find a forum that helps me understand what updating my Kernel does to my phone I will try to update Kernel and go back to CleanRom. I kind of miss multiwindow.... maybe a little bit of Touchwiz...
Thanks for the reply!
EDIT : I also found this : http://www.scottsroms.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=421 which is a version of CleanROM made for the MDJ but it is dated further back which threw me for a loop too.

No worries and you're very welcome! Don't sweat, I'm still on stock ROM because I'm hesitant to make the ROM dive. Don't know how or if installing MF3 kernel via custom ROM would affect the phone in terms of rooting or custom recovery either. I'd probably be sticking with MDJ build if possible.
You and me both on multiwindow! Helps a ton when it comes to referencing something while emailing/texting! I'd miss the TW camera as well ... maybe. haha
Which version of TWRP are you on? Version 2.6 has an often-experienced issue where it just hangs at the "teamwin" splash screen. Downgrading to 2.5.0.2 resolves that.
Any updates?

Hey guys,
I am also a 1337m Rogers S4 (MDJ) owner, also a noob as well. I managed to flash my phone with CM and had a pretty good AOSP experience and learned a little bit on the way. I can legitimately say that I miss a couple thing about stock / Touch wiz, mainly the multiwindow support and camera. Cyanogenmod is also acting up and drains battery pretty bad when I am roaming in the states.
What did you guys end up doing? Did you update your base-band to mdk and install CleanRom? Right now that looks like it's my goal but I truthfully have no idea how to do it.
Did you guys go back to stock after changing? Do I just find a stock ROM on the forum and use ODIN to bring it back?
Is switching roms as easy as choosing something in Goo manager or do you need to go into a recovery in recovery mode?
Thank you!
Sorry about these questions all Im sure they are newb but I just want to make sure before I go about doing anything....
1. I am rooted on MF9 and thinking about going to the google Rom is there a 4.3 out for the Sprint version or it just 4.2.2 just need a no or if yes a little link to help me out due too I have not seen one.
2. If I go to google rom and decide I want to go back to MF9 how do I go about doing this in odin do I use official MF9 software? or what?
The GE rom posted here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345386
is off of the 4.2.2 GE S4.
If you're looking for a rom based off of 4.3, give the Cyanogen Rom 10.2 nightly a shot, located here. http://get.cm/?device=jfltespr
The thread describing bugs, and all that fun stuff is here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405081
To go back to stock, you can either flash the stock M9F rom through custom recovery, or odin everything back to stock using this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357471
ok thanks for clarification saw it just wanted to make sure and what what files would be good to Odin back to stock just MF9 stock file?

Use either the post above for pure stock or this
Download Deodexed No Data Wipe Tar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357471
For stock + root + busybox
Assuming you have a custom recovery installed just make a backup in recovery before flashing the new ROM. Then you can revert to your old rim anytime you like.
ok cool thanks everyone for your help new to the S4 things so trying to catch up yea Im running MF9 Rooted at the moment with CWM about to see what this google rom and just trying to make sure I don't brick my phone taking it calm and easy for a bit will get more gutsy soon enough lol
Is there a single ROM out there for someone who went from MDL(I am pretty sure), who then ODIN'd MF9 way back last year...who then ODIN'd NAE MODEM ONLY, and is able to use their phone or camera, on ANY ROM whatsoever?
ive tried Negalite and SACS...using philz and twrp respectively, full wipes and all...roms install, some better than others...but on neither can I use phone or camera...and in 12 hours I am going to be halfway across the ocean
if anyone who knows of a similar situation, and has an idea for a rom that I can use while currently on MF9 bootloader, but NAE modem...pls help
thanks
Youll have a wayyyy easier time just Odining a full NAE tar..

okay...but my firmware and radio both say nae...whats a full nae tar gonna change?
That's the current version of the official ROM.
Sorry i meant MF9. Since your on MF9 bootloader than you should be able to flash the MF9 tar right? This way your at least back to a normally functioning firmware. Then just flash your favorite rom. I'm not sure about your specific situation. Its a little hectic. Lol but this would be my best guess and probably correct. Lol this way you'll at least have a funtioning device.. right?

true...so odin flash an mf9, like i was originally on, then find another rom thats working on mf9? suggestions? i loved sacs and negalite, but i believe ive got to be nae for those....
Im sure thats not a problem. NAE is simply the baseband/bootloader. This is not affected by rom.

You could try and flash stick rooted nae ROM and if that works for you then dirty flash nega or sacs.
Just got my note 3 yesterday and I am no stranger to rooting, roms and everything in between. However I've never owned a Samsung phone before either so I need some help. I've been reading through the forums but things are still a bit fuzzy. I am assuming my phone is on nc4 according to what my settings say. 4.4.2. I rooted using towel root and such is up and running. Safe strap installed. I have also downloaded Odin and a stock 4.4.2 system image file for a restore if need be. Now do I need to flash a nc2 kernel before I flash any roms? How is that done? And my model is smn900v. Which is OK to flash miui for smn900 models right? V just meaning Verizon correct? Thanks for any and all help!

Okay, I'm assuming you're on NC4 since you used Towelroot. You can flash roms but since the bootloader is locked no CM, AOSP, AOKP or Miui as far as I know. No custom kernels yet either so don't try to run any apps that change the governor or CPU frequencies. It may happen in time but not yet...:fingers-crossed:
Beans has a guide here and roms in this link read the first two posts : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
Modems, you're on the NC4 modem but we can change modems even though our bootloader is locked. You flash them in Odin. Put your phone in download mode and flash the modem in the ap slot. Modems can be found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47400062&postcount=1
You may want to stay on the NC4 modem. I took the NC2 leak from 4.3 and that modem didn't work well for me at all. I'm on NC2 with the NC4 modem. Modems depend on your phone and your location. Some people haven't seen a difference in NC2 vs NC4, some people went all the way back to the MJE modem. It's something you have to try for yourself but if your signal is good then leave it.
You put on safestrap so you're good there. Don't even try clockwork mod or rom manager. Safestrap is cool in the fact that you have rom slots. You can put roms in different slots and switch back and forth with wiping and reflashing. Kinda like dual booting your computer with OS X and bootcamp or Windows and Linux. Right now the rom slots work but people have had battery issues using anything but the stock rom slot so for right now use the stock rom slot and it's like old school flashing, there can be only one for now (Highlander reference). As of right I wouldn't dirty flash anything make sure it's a clean wipe.
Next, the rom you chose to use is pure personal preference, they're all good just make sure you read the OP and browse the threads to get an idea. If you get stuck just post a question. The crowd for the Note 3 has been the most courteous and helpful since I've been on XDA.
Welcome to the funhouse!!!
Thank you again. Any more questions I'll post em here.

You should be fine, alot of the bootloops come from being on Nc2 and hitting reboot to recovery on the power menu. There's a fix for it but I just haven't done it yet. If safestrap is on and working properly just reboot your phone and wait for the safestrap screen and hit the recovery button. If you bootloop hitting reboot to recovery just pull the battery. Reboot to download mode and reboot to system from there.

Just tried biggins rom in slot 1 after making a backup and it hung after Safe strap boot screen. Had to pull battery and switch back to stock slot and reboot. Something isn't right....

Did you use the nc2 firmware package in his OP? Also in reading his Op he says flash it in the stock rom slot. Even though Hashcode has working rom slots I still think they're not functioning like they should.
