Is your SIM card tray stuck with your nanoSIM adaptor inside and you can't get it out? Did you put the SIM card tray inside your phone with only nanoSIM adaptor and no nanoSIM card by accident like I did?
DON'T PANIC!! DON'T PULL OUT BY FORCE!! PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN AND READ!!
What happened to me, I have a nanoSIM card, and since Z2 uses microSIM, I had to use an adapter nanoSIM -> microSIM. I took the tray out of the phone, my nanoSIM fell out, and tray went back in the phone with only nanoSIM adapter, without the nanoSIM card!
And then you have a problem, because you cannot pull the SIM tray out of your phone! It gets stuck, so don't pull it out by force! This might also happen with just a microSIM card or adaptor with nanoSIM card and maybe even with only the tray without anything.
Reason is, because there are 3 little pins inside the phone, above the place where microSIM card has contacts, to keep it in place. In my example, because only nanoSIM adapter was inside without the nanoSIM card, that created a hole, in which pins got stuck. So those 3 little pins were blocking the nanoSIM adapter to come out.

Red marked space is the culprit.
I did some quick googling and to my surprise I didn't find anything specific for the Sony Xperia Z2, only some advices for other phones like iPhone, Nexus, HTC... While they gave me some tips and guidelines, Z2 doesn't have a system like other phones with some "eject" button tool so it was a bit different. But I'm happy to announce I did get it out, and I will share my instructions to help others should this happen to you (but I hope it doesn't!).
Disclaimer:
I'm trying to help you here. This worked for me, but it might not work for you. Everything you do is at your own risk. Read this and adapt to your situation. Don't blame me if something goes wrong!
Instructions:
Put your phone on the edge of a desk, face down, so that the SIM tray area is only just over the edge. Find a very thin but very sturdy, hard plastic. Something like little plastic packages that hold tiny stuff. Look at the picture what I mean. You can probobly use also something like a very thin screen protector squegee thingy, or something else. It's important that its sturdy, but also thin. I had to use 2 layers, because 1 was too thin. Experiment with this a bit.
You should cut the plastic "tool" that will help you so that it's width is as the width of the nanoSIM card or preferably slightly less (so you can put it inbetween the hole space).
Now the actual work: use both hands, Im using one hand just to illustrate what to do, and I didnt stick the adaptor in just to take the picture, thats why only tray is visible. With one hand (finger) gently pull the tray (just a milimeter maybe, just so it starts to go) and bend it down slightly. With other hand, hold your plastic tool, push it inside the phone, above the tray and adaptor, but in the "hole" (marked with red o nprevious pic), on far fright side of the adaptor. Apply pressure up with the tool, wiggle a bit inside-out, and try to apply pressure UP all the time and wiggle, and at the same time with other hand slowly pull out the tray. What you are doing with the tool is pushing pins up, which pushes them out of the hole, which enables you to pull out the tray. It might take some tries, be patient and gentle. If you pull out too much, push slightly back in, and retry. See picture to easier understand what you're supposed to do.
You should be able to get the tray out. Now never push it in with only adaptor
If you break your pins they might not honor your warranty and a new motherboard is expensive stuff so treat with care! But if you manage to solve this, even if you break the tray itself, thats a few buxks off ebay.
Thanks for your attention and have a great day
Thank you for the very useful guide! This happened to me before. My previous Z2 had my sim stuck tight inside. I tried pulling it carelessly with a paper clip. It came off but with a small, like literally this small ~ gold color pin.. After that, phone is good as a wifi only device. I sent it to a Sony Service center, and repair is as good as buying a new one, maybe around $400. I was like "WHAT? THAT EXPENSIVE FOR A SMALL PIN LIKE THAT??!!" I was thinking they were planning to rip me off, y'know corrupt people (theres plenty here in the Philippines).
Well we can bet that Z2 is hard to repair because of its unremovable body and waterproof design. I got my 2nd Z2 and taking good care of it. I sold my previous Z2 for around $200, better than nothing.

This is what exactly happened to me. I did bring it to Sony Service but I did not tell them what happened. I just said the phone don't recognize the sim anymore... They send the phone to repair and I guess they have no idea what was wrong so they send me a new phone after 3 week. They did not charge me any money because my phone was still under warranty and they thought It was malfunction lol... So next time, you dont tell them anything, just act stupid.
Thanks for the tip/guide! It really helped me yesterday, when my microsim adapter was stuck inside the sim tray of the SE Xperia Ray, I had been using as a temporary replacement!
For as long time as I started to use smartphones,, i thought S-OFFing in Sensation was hard. Now this is definitely harder. I use Z2 now, but I think I will just let the repair staff exchange SIM card for me. No hassle, and if something was broken, they broke it.
I didn't find it that hard. On my 2nd or 3rd try I got it out. I was so relieved afterwards! I was afraid of destroying my Xperia Ray which is a little handset I really like...
Thank you so much! Saved my day. I fixed my Xperia Z1 Compact without any problems.
You are a genius!..probably saved my phone... I had forced the adapter out and half of it broke...so the other half was left in the phone (sony ultra z). Tried pulling it out using tweezers but that was useless, googled.. found this post.... got an old zoo card (looks like a credit card) same thickness as the sim card... cut a slice about the same width as a sim card like you said above... put it in the tray slot.heard what sounded like clicks or something... out comes the other half of the adapter... Thank you soo very much.!
Thank you so much. It helped me solve the problem.
Simple and perfect solution..
Took about 10 sec, saved me a bill & a huge headache
Used also to extract an stuck SIM off a Motorola G4 2nd gen phone
Thanks!, I also saved my phone using this "tool".
genious
Useful explanation as to cause but risky repair - take to local mobile shop
I have a Z1 and regrettably this didn't work for me! I thought storing the nano-sim adaptor in my now old micro-sim phone Z1 phone was a sensible place to store it, should I need the old phone as a backup!
Anyway having inserted the tool over the top of the jammed sim I was having some difficulties getting the sim out. So I thought maybe the sim was the other way round with the ZI ie the pins engaging the sim from the bottom. With this in mind, I repeated the exercise inserting the tool from the bottom. This time the sim came out but regrettably with a number of pins!
I have now taken this to my local mobile shop, who have said they are now unable to repair this but would have been able to had I not attempted a repair myself! This means the phone is no longer now suitable as a backup and effectively only a WiFi device.
Conclusion: Useful post if only to explain what has caused the issue but I would recommend then taking to a mobile phone shop.

I had the same problem, and the sony service center asked for around 200$. So, I went to a local repair shop, they removed the back of my phone by heating it, and replaced the sim card or something, for only 8$
I did the dumb thing of forcing to pull the adapter out.
The contact pins cames out too...
This video helped me a lot for replacing the sim slot at less than 1$ : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x11-EZSqJVg
Hope nobody reading this thread will ever use it.

After going through this with my X1 which I took very good care of, I was sure to be extra careful with the X2.
SE blamed HTC for the design flaw that lead to cracks in the X1, well SE... what do you say about the X2 then???
After picking up my phone yesterday I felt a sharper more jagged feel near my camera button. I did not pay attention to it at first, but I felt it again and took a closer look. This is what I found!

Here you can see the crack goes through to where the metal tab for the battery cover locks.
So the question remains, was I just unlucky? Anybody else notice cracking there in that spot? Looking at it closely I can tell you it's awfully thin and I can't see it holding up for very long.
The only thing I can say that I do differently from the average X2 owner is swap out my batteries every day. I have a standalone charger and 2 spare batteries since my X1 and I prefer to swap fresh batteries every morning instead of using USB to charge so that I don't prematurely wear out (or break) the USB jack, as was a problem with some X1s. Surely this can't cause abnormal case cracking can it???
****, i jsut looked and i have a crack too.. omg i have taken good care of this phone
mtechfan your not alone with the swapping of the battery's each day i did this with my C902. i dont have a crack by the cam button but i have just noticed that were the stylis slides in the little clip that helped lock it in place is no longer there
Well, we better all check our phones!
If we look at this from a design view... I think that the plastic bit that has the clip, that holds onto the battery cover is too thin.
I can imagine the other one on the top side failing just the same.
the back cover hinges near to that point, wouldnt be surprised if it puts extra stress on that side. i dnt think they designed it in mind with people swapping the battery every day.
had my X2 over 5months and touch wood not a crack or anything on it so far. i dont swap the battery though. my x1 had cracks, keyboard failures, peeling varnish from back cover and all manner of problems by 5months...
i was only inspecting my phone the other day and thinking to myself at how well the X2 has lasted compared to the X1. very pleased with the build quality so far.
i think we will have to recommend to everyone to avoid taking off the back cover more than they have too...

Well, that does not solve the problem. It is a ticking time bomb, who says it wont crack anyways? amdx2 does not mention swapping batteries.

The back side area only cracked for that person because of careless ness. When you putting on the battery cover on any phone and you dont take time to see what your doing thats what gonna happen. The X2 battery cover has to metal strips at the side to be placed on the grove of the phone< when you dont place it in the grove properly it will push out the side of the phone and may brake just like what you see in those pictures you see there. So we cant blame SE for our negligence

Don't be so bloody ignorant, jumping to assumptions like that! Did you even bother to read the text?
That is my phone and I KNOW HOW TO PUT THE DAMN BATTERY COVER ON! I take very good care of every device I have ever owned.
This cracked over time, it has nothing to do with me being careless. Your X2 will crack soon enough, then will you say you were careless?
It's a very thin piece of plastic, take a close look!
Ohh...
I just looked aswell, and found that crack too :S
And it is two crack in an early phase too on the other side of the phone...
BAD designing SONY ERICSSON !!

how long have you had your X2?
* edit * to keep this thread constructive i think it would be helpful for people replying to this thread to specify how long theyve owned their X2, whether theyve spotted any cracks (and where) and whether they swap the batterys or remove the back cover on a regular basis.
that way it can be established if theres a particular batch of X2s that are flawed and if theres a main cause or if its just random.

Good idea, I got mine around the end of March. Not that long really, the phone looks brand new except for the crack. I use screen protectors as well.
thats not long at all then. so about 8 weeks...
ive had a close look at that side, with the cover on it seems strong enough. but with the cover off its not all that strong. looks like the back cover provides quite a lot of the overal phone strength. the cover has metal hinges too so if anything is going to give it will be the plastic on the casing. dont really see why they had to hinge it. theyve had to put two holes there to accomodate the hinge, if they had kept a normal slide in and click back cover they could of made the casing much more solid. i suppose they thought they where being clever by having a cover with a nice locking mechanism.
ive had mine since february and the guy who had it before me must of had it a few weeks. so mine is nearly 5 months old. but ive probably only taken the back cover off about a dozen times at the most.
i also notice that the crack is quite close to the camera button.. i wonder if using the camera a lot contributes to the crack forming. i dont take many pictures so rarely use the button. just done a few tests and if u press hard on the camera button you can see the case flex slightly..
well, i don't change battery but i need take out the battery less 4 or 5 times a week to restart the phone cuz it has crushed.. also i have drop the phone a few times already..
since MR2 my phone hasn't really crashed only need a soft reset from time to time.. which i think its normal since its WINMO afterall

Yes, I have used the camera quite a bit. That might be it!
Same here, just noticed the crack exactly at the same location ((
Hi every body
I had an X1 too, and same problems that everyone had before, case crack without ANY reason while taking care well, keyboard problems after about 8-9 months and color disappearing of back.
As everyone knows SE said that HTC is responsible for problems of x1.
After all waiting for next work of SE, we have a very close arrival of x2 and x10, so I got an x2 because I BELEIVED that SE presented x2 with all experiences and failures of x1, considering that anyone in the world knew that x10 has a excellent build quality, .... and also some known lacks.
NOW I AM DISAPPOINTED AND MAD AT SE> SHAME ON SE because of having customers like us disappointed.
I had ericsson phones since T26, T28, ......, p800,910,990, x1 and now x2
The least they can do is a simple apology

Well I hope every X2 owner reads this thread and checks their device!
thanks mtechfan for the post.
I checked my phone...so far no cracks. and I dropped it and took the battery out, god knows how many times already
Ah, gonna keep my fingers crossed
This might not be highly relevant, but I have a very similar crack in my X1 (same place). It started as a tiny triangular chip along that plastic ridge/bumper. I remove the battery a decent amount due to flashing. I have also had about 2 bad drops.
Wonder if that plastic stuff some people cover their whole phones with would help avoid this.
So, I've added a 500 gb hard drive to the dock while keeping the battery.
That's right, all batteries, all parts are still there! The only difference is I've rearranged all the inner crap around to make the 500 gb fit. Asus, if you're reading this, take notes
Anyway, here are the pictures. Remember that all I've removed are some plastic pieces that serve no other purpose than to keep things in place. All electronic parts are still there. It's like trying to work out a piece of puzzle. Well, I've finally found a combination that works!
Well, here are some pictures. Now, I have a laptop-tablet hybrid with a 500 gb hard drive and 16 hours of battery life!
A side note, I really really tried to figure out a way to add more battery on top of this. No possible way.

By the way, constructive negative feedback are welcome. Non-constructive vague, misleading generalizations are also welcome but with an attitude of annoyance. I did this hardware mod fully aware that I voided my warranty. What can I say? I'm adventurous like that.
Like some people have mentioned before while doing a tear down of the dock, there's just a lot of unused room in there. The problem is those unused room are scattered all over the place. What I have done is move the electronics around so that everything is still there + a 500 gb hard drive.
I highly recommend against this hard mod for everyone else but me. If you're going to do this, I take no responsibility if you screw up. The mod requires some very delicate soldering. So, please, don't follow my foot steps.
Anyway, as far as I'm concern, I'm the only person in the world as of this moment with a tablet-laptop hybrid that has a 500 gb hard drive. Damn, I feel special
Added by edit (9/2/2011)
So, I just added in a tiny switch to turn on and off the hard drive. Here are some pictures. Those of you who want to do this mod, glean what you can from the pictures
Edit.
I am now offering to do this mod for people. If you want me to do this for you, you need to buy the hard drive (hdd or ssd, doesn't matter, make sure it's usb), send your dock and drive to me + $75 via paypal + a return stamp. I promise I will be extra careful with your stuff. Hit me a pm if you're interested. Also, you have to tell me if you want me to put in an on/off switch for you. I live 2 minutes from radio shack. If you do want the switch, add $2. In the package, there should also be a letter with your name, address, and exactly what you want. And please if you're going to send me the keyboard dock, make sure you send me a functional one. I will test out every aspect of the dock before I do anything. If anything is wrong with it, I will send it right back to you. So please, do not try to scam me into buying you a replacement dock.
If you're poor, like a college student, talk to me. And if you're that guy who introduced himself as a businessman and then went on to try to negotiate down to $40... really?
For those who are handy dandy with your hands, I have posted more than enough info for you to replicate what I've done. If you cannot do this mod with the current info, then it's best that you don't try.
I do ask people 5 things, though.
(1) Make sure you consult me first about the hard drive you want. Don't just send it to me. I need to make sure it will fit!
(2) I need you to be absolutely sure you want this mod done to your keyboard dock. This mod will void your warranty.
(3) I need you to not regret after it's been modded. I take no responsibility for any buyer's remorse from you.
(4) I promise you that I will be extra careful with your dock. After experimenting with my own dock, I have developed much safer ways to do this mod. I'm almost 100% sure I can do this without messing up your dock, since I now know the dock inside out. I know every little part that's involved. I know exactly what wire goes where. However, there's still a risk involved. I need you to understand that.
(5) Don't be a whiner. I hate whiners. This is a transformer. It will never become an ipad. Jesus christ, if I hear one person complain that this mod did not turn their transformer into an ipad...
Anyway, think it over and if you still want this mod done, hit me a pm or email. If I don't respond to pm, then try again with email.
And by the way, this is not a business I'm doing. This is more like a favor. You try getting best buy or some other store to do something similar to this for you and see how much they charge. In other words, I have no money. Please don't try anything funny to scam me. Trust me, I've nothing for you to scam out of.
Before you guys send off your dock to me, I need you to check if your sdcard is still in the slot. There are 2 reasons why you should take your sdcard out before you send to me.
There are some things on your sdcard you'd rather not have me or anyone else see. For instance, someone just sent me 16 GB of gay porn. Not going to mention any name *ahem* . Next time this happens, it could be you and your spouse in a naughty video.
If I take the dock apart with the sdcard still in there, the sdcard slot will stop holding in the sdcard. There is a little tiny pin in the sdcard slot that's responsible for clicking and keeping in your sdcard. When I first took my dock apart, I forgot to take out the sdcard. The pin flew out. It took me a whole saturday to put the pin back in there.
In other words, I now officially hold myself NOT responsible if I absentmindedly take your dock apart before checking the sdcard slot. And I absolutely do not want to spend another saturday putting another one of these tiny pins back into the sdcard slot.
Added by edit.
So, to recap. Here's what you need to include in your package.
(1) Your docking station. I can't mod it over the internet yet. Still working on it.
(2) HDD.
(3) Shipping label.
(4) A letter stating the following:
[a] What you want me to do.
Do you want an on/off switch or not?
[c] Which usb port do you want me to use? If you are right handed, then I'd hook it up to the left so you can use the right usb port all the time. The usb that is hooked from will only work when you have the HDD turned off.
[d] Your porn collection. Be like one of the users here and send me a dock with an sdcard card inside that has 16 GB of gay porn. Sharing is caring!

Yeah, since I had 4 arms, I used 2 to solder and 2 to take pictures
Actually, no I don't have any picture of the soldering. All I soldered was the usb connector from the inside. This is one of those hard drives that doesn't need an extra power connector. All it needs is a usb connection.
The other reason I'm not putting anything up regarding the soldering job is because I don't want newbies to screw up their dock. If you know a thing or two about soldering, then you should know what and where to solder. If you don't already know, you could end up burning the board and chips.
Added by edit.
Between the OP and this post, I opened up the dock and put in the magnet for the auto sleep and auto wake thing. Almost forgot about putting that thing back in. I had to remove it to move other things around.

Don't know. Still testing it out.
Nice mod, but I dont think you'll have 16 hrs battery life.
As long as he doesnt have it mounted all the time right?
Any heat issues?
Awesome mod, I want to do it. Which hard drive did you use?
Also is that a big dent in the top half of the dock I can see in the last picture?
Any tips on opening the dock in a way that avoids avoid damaging it? I'm an expert at soldering but I'm OCD about my dock looking untouched when I am finished.

I'm already thinking about this. It's would be a simple mod to hook up a small switch that sits where the obsolete USB connector is. This could be used to turn the drive off when not required.
Yes... Heat is my only concern (hence why I mentioned it).
The space the drive takes would also lessen the flow of air.
A lot of testing would have to be carried out for it to be deemed safe.
Definitely needs something to monitor the drive and switch it off when not needed.
What about the battery life? especially when you undock the tab... or does it stop spinning when you undock, or when it's idle for some time?
Nicely done. I seriously doubt it still gets 16hrs battery life though. Also it's interesting to see what's actually inside the keyboard dock. These are the first pics I've seen of it. I never could figure out how to pop mine open without removing those bottom rubbery feet so I could always return it if needs be, so gave up trying to open mine up.
Also those bits of plastic you removed, well I'd assume you have lost the rigidity from any flexing/contortion of the unit, but looks like it all might be worth it for the extra capacity. Nice job.
well its possible to throw in an SSD instead of a HDD. mind checking on how long the battery life will last? and just wondering its a 2.5" or 1.8" hdd was used?
Wonder and I bet you could install hard drives from ipods or other mp3 players. They would be smaller, lighter, less power, but maybe a little slower. Not sure how the power, data connections would work though
What about using a SSD? LOL!!
Im really good with a soldering iron- rewired my whole computer PSU and custom cables for it. Please PM me with how to do this.. Id be interested in checking the mod out for when I get my TF
Dear all, I ain't telling nobody how to do this. Again, this is way too dangerous and I wouldn't want anyone to risk it. I really don't want to be responsible for something that might happen. Especially when this ivolves taking the battery cells apart and solder them together in such a way to fit the design. If you want to do something similar, you figure it out.
No, I'm not being a jackass. I just don't want to be reponsible for the extinction of the human race.
You guys are right. I doubt I have 16 hr of bat life. that said it still beats my laptop.

The space the drive takes would also lessen the flow of air.
A lot of testing would have to be carried out for it to be deemed safe.
Definitely needs something to monitor the drive and switch it off when not needed.

Heat actually isn't a problem in this case. The hard drive was in 2 layers of air tight casings when I took it out. Before I opened up the dock, it was also air tight.
Don't think of the hard drive as a conventional hard drive. This one uses a lot less power and produces a lot less heat. In fact, I purposely left it on for hours and still haven't felt any heat.
Before I did the mod, I tested the hard drive out with the connections. What I found was that the hard drive only goes on when (1) the tablet is docked and (2) the tablet is on. If either one of these conditions is not met the drive is off. Even if the tablet is docked but it is sleeping the hard drive would still be off.
A really stupid story, and I am sure not that uncommon either. Was in the college cubicle this morning (adult college, English ex-pat learning Finnish) and some bright spark had set the automatic lights at something like 2-3 minutes. Cue darkness and yours truly having the bright idea (no joke intended) of grabbing my phone and using my bright-as-the-sun SAMOLED+ screen to regain composure in pitch darkness and reactivate the lights.
I accidentally dropped the phone from knee height (please, imagination not necessary) onto the tiled floor leaving me with a dim partial screen lightup and many many problems, especially as I use my phone heavily to help with my language course. AAAAAAGGG.
Well, this is definitely going to be a lesson to anyone who doesn't think it will happen to them (one more educated user down, many to go) and haven't invested in a bumper case or at least a silicone cover. The only recourse I am aware of is the screens from aliexpress.com which both cost approximately a 1/4 of what the phone is worth....unless anybody has any better sources they can share?
Before I debase myself further, I have to mention that I am a 35-yr old who moved country with his family and is currently on a government-sponsored language integration course, and is therefore on the equivalent of unemployment-level finances until at least August 2012 with books to buy and all that depressing stuff. My phone is my only real luxury at the moment (cry cry, etc) and has become a lifeline helping me improve my language skills to become employable again in a very skill-oriented country. In that respect it is more than worth its (albeit svelte) weight in gold to me.
Despite me not being an existing contributor here as such, not having accrued reputation and therefore not being seen as an investment, I plan to provide a screen replacement tutorial (laced with comments like "BUY A BUMPER CASE!") when I can afford to buy a new screen. In that respect, I have set up a "Donate To Me" button to the left in my profile chit:
<<<<<<<<<<
....which I hope people would be goodly enough to use anonymously to help ease my transition through my S2 limbo. Please understand that this is not invitation to deride me for my stupidity in not buying a case yet (practical lesson learnt already, believe me) or to comment on the validity of my request in what is to me a very troubling time.
I'll be ordering the new screen at the end of the week. This is the first picture of the intended tutorial:

In addition, if you live in Satakunta and need guitars/basses set up and/or repaired then I can do this for a very reasonable fee. I will also have plenty of woodland mushrooms for sale. I make a mean curry. I know far too much about Matsumoku-era Japanese Aria guitars. I can still remember most of my Sinclair Spectrum machine code. I helped to prove from geotechnical data that there is a continuous layer of impermeable clay below the Stratford Olympic Village site preventing migration of contaminants buried beneath the multi-million pound development thereon from leaching into sensitive waterways. I can calculate weight bearing and design roof trusses for lots and lots of snow. I ran 10km in a very slow 59m 52s once. I came second in an egg and spoon race when I was four. I invented one of the first network instant messaging systems in 1991 using BBC BASIC and various network hacks. I then implemented it in Winword. I know far too much about brasses. I have three points on my driving licence that I should have had removed seven years ago. I can't ice skate. If any of these skills or lack of are capitalisable to you, drop me a PM....!! Callers are standing by.
Gutted!!!
Do you not use some sort of case?
I use a great rubber one that in VERY close to the phone so doesn't even look like i use one!
Looks good and would save my phone if i ever dropped it
Ouch...
Many sympathies. And good luck learning Finnish, it's horribly tough. I gave up and learnerd Swedish instead from my Finnish ex - helluva lot easier.
@OneZeoN - I've never actually used a case before, and it is only recently (well, July 2010) when I bought my first large format screen phone. Before then They were semi-bricks like my Nokia 5800 Xpress Music which you'd need to stab with an icepick to damage. My original Galaxy S never failed either. I've always been very careful (or lucky).
I guess I fell for the svelte design and feather weight of the S2. It's a shame that form is taking more precedence over function in some kind of counter-productive race on thinnest-flattest-lightest-shiniest, as the walls of material physics are being hit hard. Shock-absorbancy doesn't marry well with thin and stiff as my S2 proves.
I'm going over whether to run a silicone skin or a proper bumper case. Given that every Euro counts at the moment (upcoming school books and my wife needs a nurse uniform "for school", woof) I'm a little worried that silicone might not provide the protection and assurance an expensive phone like an S2 really needs. As you say, more than likely better than no protection!
@B3311 - Finnish is unfeasibly hard. That said, it is very logical like German is. You can read Finnish straight from the page and even if you don't know the words or the sense of what you are reading, everything can be vocalised. The grammar is the problem, cramming that system into your head and then realising you haven't had time to absorb any vocab so you have nothing useful to say. I keep telling myself that two years of intensive language courses will pay off for the rest of my life. Swedish is easy, yes.
Does it affect the way your screen renders things or is it only on the gorilla glass?
My friend dropped his belt buckle on his LG Optimus 2X and cracked his gorilla glass but it still turns on and renders without problems. He sent it back to LG and got a replacement (only the glass) for $5 + $10 service fee.
Or maybe this can help?
Thanks for the link. My glass is immaculate and the crack is in the screen component mounted beneath the glass itself.
More than a little polishing required here!
<edit: apologies for the bad photo. snap decision and not set up fully hence the reflection!>
If you find a source for the bits, I would be pleased to hear about it.
My buddy's son did the same thing, but the display underneath is OK, but the glass is cracked. He now has my spare gel case, but needs to find a new glass.
Someone else, with an iPhone 4, told me his agent charged £180 to replace the glass when he did it.
The screen, glass and bezel seem to comprise one unit. I haven't taken my S2 apart any further than the rear plastic cover and bezel as I only really want to try this once I get around to replacing the screen for real. It seems it will be a "full body transplant" of all components and boards from the old damaged (well, killed) screen straight across to the new unit.

Most of this evening will be spent looking for sources. Amazon and "Ali Express" seem like the most likely sources, however I haven't even found suggestions here really. Has nobody broken their S2 yet, unlike me?
I'm marginally concerned about ordering from a random Chinese site, however since it likely won't come from anywhere else what can I do? X'D
Oh, and despite my apparent light-hearted posting I am still depressed. Levity in the face of gravity and all that.

I sympathise with the OP. I cracked the glass to the left of the home screen button, it shattered in an area 6 x 10 mm and propogated from the bottom left hand corner, with 4 long cracks running into the main screen area. Fortunatly for me the it still works and the long cracks are very fine and not too distracting.
It was in my pocket when it happen and i don't recall bashing into anything. I assume it was a glancing blow from the handle of a cupboard door which matches the hight where my phone would sit in my pocket. When I first pull it out I thought I had my friends phone (HTC Touch HD2 since he has cracks from where it fell from his bike) gutted when I realised what had occurred.
I have looked up service centres in the uk and was sent to CPW in Bristol, spoke to "the Tech Guy" they quote £150, 2 days lead on the part (incidental anecdote: and their engineer isnt in because he has a bad back. The guy told me had had a similar crack in his sgs2.) Have found others offering fitting for £125 but would much prefer the recommendation of a stranger on a website i lurk in . I have put a cheap screen protector on top so not to loose further glass.
anyway good luck.
Small donation sent. Good luck.
Thank you! I really appreciate it and the other donations made so far. I calculate that I am about 2-3% of the way there already. I think I remember where my anti-static wrist strap is also! I just need to locate a SAMOLED+ screen replacement.
I believe I will need to inspect the screen assembly when it arrives, as this may not involve a "full body" transplant and might just require the Gorilla glass debonding from the bezel rather than a full disassemble. I'm not sure which of these I actually prefer however...
@s1lvf1sh - those propogating cracks must be a complete nightmare as any pressure will surely apply stress along them! I don't know whether the glass can be replaced on its own as it seems to be that it is bonded to the SAMOLED itself. Perhaps this goes some way as to explaining the high cost of glass replacement services? I hope to see Samsung using flexible AMOLEDs in the next couple of years, as they appear to be all but immune to convential damage.
....and unconvential damage....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8S8tbQMp2k
Pulled the trigger on a new SAMOLED screen from a UK reseller for a reasonable price. Should arrive next week, so unless I get some good time during the day that week I will be documenting the replacement process next Saturday and uploading the same or the next day or thereabouts.
Thanks to everybody that made donations. Found out yesterday that my next language book will cost me €49(£42) which is a serious dent in our general finances alongside this new screen and my intended bumper case. Any supplementary donations are always welcome of course! :-D
Whilst I am on-topic; if any steps of the transplant process need documenting in specific detail, it would be a good time to discuss those now I guess.
I'm no expert here..... but on my O2 mini I had many a year ago I had the screen go garbled like that after i dropped it. Now I understand that this phone is a amoled where my O2 was an lcd but I found the problem with the O2 was the flat cable connection for the screen to the motherboard....
Just a thought and doubt your problem is the same but you have to pull the phone apart anyway so worth a check.

It's unlikely that I am the first person with a broken S2 LCD/LED given the number of them up for sale out there. In that respect any fatal design flaws should have been reported by now, so I doubt it will be a similar problem however I never rule anything out until I have appropriate evidence so I will definitely examine the damaged screen and trace the source of the crack back through to the initial shock transmission point in the (relatively) inelastic case.
In other news, I am heavily tempted to buy an aluminium Taurus case.
don't buy the story. My SG2 fell down 3times. One time even from more than 2.5 meters hight. No impact on any function so far.
sorry, but wish you good luck anyway. May God give you power to manage your life with honour.
Story? It's far from being a story at this end of the Internet! I'm stuck with "using" a GT-S3370E whilst I've been rejigging money to cover this repair and have discovered the downside of syncing all your contacts with your Google account....when you move backwards to an older phone that can't do that, you find that you have no numbers on your phone. Bleh.
Good luck with dropping your phone "successfully". Most people just don't get second chances you know? Just happy that I'm living my life honourably under my own steam thanks.
PS. A big Saturday handshake to the last donation received! Makes me feel a hell of a lot less "out in the cold" from my little disaster.
PPS. Missing Android.
Feel with you. Made my first scratch today dropping mine from knee height as well...Luckily its at the edge of the screen and barely visible.

No scratches in mine. I suppose that just makes it worse, that I wrote off a pristine Gorilla Glass screen by cracking the LED underneath. I hated the scratch in my original S. 3mm right down in the middle, two-thirds down. Grr.
Considering a Zonus leather wallet case instead of a bumper. Not a fan of the portrait ones though. A little too Star Trek communicator for my liking....reminds me of Ace Ventura too....
Hey guys,
I took a quick look inside the G Pad and want you to show how to open it and what it looks like there.
How to Open
What you need is a pry-tool, a small screw driver and some plectrums. Something to heat would be perfect as well.
First, you should remove the screw that is inside the microSD-slot:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Next, you take the pry tool and get the device out of the chassis. Apply the pry-tool to the gap between frame and screen. As soon as you lifted off one of the short sides a bit, you stick there one of the plectrums carefully. Then you go on with the other sides.
When all sides are lifted off the device from the frame, you still won't be able to get rid of the rear panel. Unfortunately there is glue in the middle between battery and case, so a bit of heat wouldn't be bad. I took a blow-dryer to avoid bad times with my battery
Internals
And here we are:
You can clearly see the adhesive pad in the middle.
The case:
At the top of the picture between the two speaker-holes there is the serial number label as it is on the bottom of our back side. Right, you can see a thermal foil for the powerful chips. On the left side there is a little blue box. It could probably be the vibration motor (thanks to Ardion)
Closer look to the controllers:
After taking of the heatsink we get a look at the controller-chips. On the left side there is a Qualcomm PM8921 who cares for the power-management. The middle chip is still covered, I will embrace it later. The last chip is our NAND flash, it's a Toshiba THGBM5G7A2JBAIR
The top side:
At the very high top of the picture there is the 3.5mm sound-connector. Below is our microSD-Slot.
The flat wire that is mounted by two screws is from our battery. I have even found a spare part, so it would be possible to replace the battery.
The connector at the bottom of the picture leads us to the next part:
Power button and volume rockers:
Between the two volume buttons there is even a label LGV500 on it. So it might be a V500 exclusive part
Blame my camera for the bad macro function..
You are the SoC, aren't you?
So there we have a Hynix memory with H9TKNNNBPDMA-ARNGM on it. I couldn't find any information about it, but it seems that there is our RAM combined with the Snapdragon 600?
Mainboard detached
There we have our two cameras. The left one as rear-facing and the right one front-facing.
Mainboard the other way round
Not much to see, but there is a black box at the right. There a two bulbs, one should be the brightness-sensor, but the other one?
Don't use the tab in the bathtub
The paper strip with crosses seems to be a indicator for the manufacturer. If you have a damage caused by water the crosses will disappear and LG won't be your friend any more. It is very clever placed at the SD-card-slot, where the water-cooling will first take effect
Sh1tty camera
There you have the rear-facing camera. I wasn't able to get it out of there, probably I have to dismount the board first..
Down left of the camera, there is our IR-blaster.
The Battery
There it is. 4.600 mAh
Worst speaker of the world
With my first G Pad I had trouble with one of the speakers. It sounded very muffled and vibrated a lot. The new one sounds better, but not more..
The whole speaker strip is attached by three screws. The one at the bottom right didn't want to go my way, so I had to stop disassembling
The bottom side
ATMEL controller in the middle. Could be the touchscreen-controller (thanks to Ardion)
USB connector
At the left side you can see the USB connector. At the right there seems to be the microphone. The two connectors between them are connected to the blue box that I have already mentioned.
Summing up, it's no easy job to get to the battery. There are a lot of flat wires that have first to be disconnected. A lot things have to be dismounted as well.
The mainboard on the other side is good accessible and can be replaced easily.
That's all, I hope you liked it.

I think the Atmel chip at the bottom is a touchscreen controller.
The little blue box looks like the vibration motor.

I will think about it. Cause it should be enough to detach the upper and lower wires. Though this is no easy intervention as there is a wire adhesived near the USB connector.
I added two pictures with the mainboard detached.
So that is a lot easier than the battery..
Perhaps there is enough space to adapt and inegrate a qi-receiver!

I don't think that this is a good idea. The metallic backside would shield the magnetic radiation and you wouldn't get any power
Interesting thread thanks! If I were to take my tab apart I would never be able to put it back together again in working order
Must require a great deal of skill & patience to do this.
Great job. I was wondering how to open up this baby. Now I know this has a one piece back plate.
How long did your blow dry it? Have you tried to remove the glue and see if it loose or make any squeaky noises?

You don't need much heat. I just used it about half a minute and then the glue loses his power. With constant force to the back plate you can feel how the glue-strip is slowly peeling away from the back plate.
I haven't tried to remove the glue, cause it is attached to the battery..
Thanks for the reply.
Do you have the service manual before doing this or just found it out after tinkering for a while?
If you have the service manual, can you share the link? It seems I couldn't find them (including the GPE pad v510)
No service manual. I tried it myself
What a great man! Thank you for bestowing a good knowledge upon mankind especially lg g pad user
It would be more awesome if you can record the process of disassembling the case apart.
This thread needs to be in a sticky.

The only possible space would be between battery and back-cover. But I dunno whether 0.16 in are free there, it might be less.

USB connector replacement?
Can anyone advise if it's possible to replace the USB connector?
I spilled a tiny amount of water my G Pad. I didn't think it got to the internals, but after charging it overnight the cable was stuck in the connector (like really stuck) and had obviously baked itself in.
I got it loose after spraying with isopropyl alcohol, and it somehow still charges, but the connection is bad and getting worse.
Any clues?
The battery in my XT1575 finally gave out, so I ordered a new on on eBay. When I went to swap it out, I found that the original had a slight curve that helped it form properly to the case. The new battery is perfectly flat. All the markings are identical. I'm afraid to try to bend the battery to take form because I don't want it to blow up in my face. Any experienced user have a clue what to do?
A J
Yes send it back and see if the seller has a curved one.
My flat replacement battery fit in the space.
Pretty sure it should be flat... If it's rounded maybe it's bulging.
It is rounded, I've already replaced the battery and I am going to have to do it again for the 2nd time because of eBay junk.
The original batteries are rounded along the length of the battery. You will have to round the flat battery to fit it in otherwise you risk damaging the LCD panel as the pressure will screw it up.
I have not been able to find a battery that is pre-rounded and the correct grams in weight. So far I've got cheated on 2 batteries weighing in at 10 grams less than the original battery and they both last less than the depleted original so that has created a situation for me. Every time you take the phone apart you risk messing it up and those little tiny plugs can't take a lot of wear and tear before they snap and break.
The batteries from eBay are clones and they weigh about 36 grams, the original batteries weigh in at 46 - 50 grams.
The clone batteries are good enough to get a phone working but as they say, battery life is everything when you are mobile, and it is a mobile phone after all.
***********
If anyone knows of a good 50 gram battery source please let me know.
***********
I just wanted to add a note, rounding the battery is done at your own risk as it is dangerous!
I wore heavy gloves and eye protection to make sure I didn't get burned if I managed to screw it up.
Easiest way to bend it is to wedge the battery between two heavy boards bend and turn around and bend the two edges. about 30 degrees, as I stated before you can't install a flat battery as it will eventually kill your LCD screen because of pressure in the wrong places.

Clever knockoffs or ordinary knockoffs?
Just out of curiosity, did any of your "featherweight" batteries look like genuine Motorola parts from the front?
How did you know the battery was done?
I've been troubleshooting my phone turning off randomly. It turns off while in use (if I leave it alone, it stays on). It refuses to turn back on or acts like it has a low battery until I plug it in. Then it acts like it had battery all along and turns on.
Is this my battery? time for replacement?
I was on MM rooted unlocked bootloader. Just updated to Nougat today to troubleshoot. On Nougat stock and Nougat rooted, same issue. Shuts off randomly.

Tools that came with the kit worked fine - I found I used the 4 torx to unscrew / 3 torx to put back -- just go slow. Also - the two white strips have no explanation - they are double sided to keep the back cover on once you are done. That was the only "tool" in the kit I wasn't really clear about.
Zero instructions / hints come the kit - refer to the YouTube video posted and the Ifixit information

Honestly, the procedure isn't too bad compared to other devices. If you care about your phone even a little bit though, don't buy those crappy knockoff batteries, as they're usually worse than a 3-year-old original battery. For the record, I keep it on my dresser as a monument to "why not to buy cheap batteries". It is currently twice as swollen as was pictured. If I had left it in my phone, it would have destroyed the device physically. I thought that because it was "curved," it'd be legit, but I was quite wrong.
For the record, the only remaining seller of genuine/OEM FX30 batteries for this phone is oem_liquidation. It's pricey, but well worth it. You couldn't even pay me to use one of those Amazon/ebay specials anymore. I've learned my lesson.

Honestly, the procedure isn't too bad compared to other devices. If you care about your phone even a little bit though, don't buy those crappy knockoff batteries, as they're usually worse than a 3-year-old original battery. Thanks for the inputs - at this point I cannot really comment on the long term viability of the battery bought from Amazon -- basically have had it installed for about a week now.
My main objective was to get my thoughts posted -- this seems to be an unappreciated phone and not a lot out there. I tried to post the review on Amazon - but got rejected ; would assume because of the links I added to try and give someone some ideas of the resources that I found helpful.
The amount of glue really surprised me .. even though I had a bit of a warning from the video. I suspect it also has something to do with why it is listed as having some water resistance -- the way the glue was added would have provided a good seal for moisture incursion.

I agree. It didn't have a lot of press to begin with, despite its epicness, and most of the phone snobs have moved on by now.

That happened to me once before too (for a different item). Amazon lets me review most of my purchases, (the few that I do perform on that irritating website, as well as those of products that I didn't buy through their market) but does give me trouble every once in a while.
I'd wait a few months until you know if it's going to work or not before posting the review anyway.

It is a bit annoying to service, but not nearly as bad as certain other devices. And if it contributes to water resistance, I don't mind too much. The real headache comes with repeated service due to having to replace a defective replacement battery. If I'd just gotten a good one right out of the starting gate, I could've probably kept the original adhesive and back cover.
Interestingly enough, the replacement back cover, while sized identically to the original, feels slightly different and attracts far more dust. It's almost like it's made out of a softer material somehow. The seller claimed it was OEM, but I'm not so sure. Either way, it works, so I'll probably leave it alone for right now.
At any rate, I hope the battery lasts long and that the phone serves you well. Congratulations on the successful repair.
I wish you the best for your battery lasting. I was lucky enough to get a good one and thus far it is going strong after nearly 7 months. I love this phone despite it having worse battery life when compared to some of its peers out there. Battery life is good enough for me.
Over the past two years I've done some sort of "surgery" on four XT1575s. Three were battery issues, one was the micro USB socket. While it feels weird to start a careful disassembly by ripping off a rubber back, the rest of the process was clear to see on any number of YouTube videos and fairly easy to do. My only caution -- at all times, as you separate any two pieces, check carefully to make sure you're not damaging the thin connector for the battery, the power, that sticky patterned copper thing, maybe something else. One tug too hard and you're dead in the water until the new part arrives.
My DD is an XT1575. So is my wife's. And my son's. And a close friend. I talked each of them into buying the phone and none of them regret it. I too am mystified that this excellently designed phone doesn't get more recognition.

Stock Battery
I've dealt w/ in the last 30 days - extremely GOOD communication, clarifications etc. both batt's I recieved (for different phone) were OEM original MFG date 2021 work excellent.
Since I've got 2 of these XT1575, am waiting to hear back on the mfg. date and whether the battery is CURVED - there's lots of reports of aftermarket battery being flat, causing faults on the screen.

My guess is at one point the battery out gassed, inflated and that caused it to bend like that! The gases where vented out latter and it retained that shape. If so you came close to incurring major damage.
I can't tell for sure but the replacement seems thicker if so that won't fly.
Go with the OEM one only!
If you ever autopsied one you know what I mean. I call them bag batteries now! The only way it could be curved is to be bent after it was wound ie forced to bend.
You can see what appear to be stress areas on either end of the original. WTF?
I seriously doubt it's bend by design... that looks more like a failed Li.
*See if you can find some repair vids of it or at least tear down vids to confirm the cell is actually flat... as a bag battery can be.
Interesting observation... my 'body donor' (got on ebay like $25 for they didn't know to enlarge the screen to get the navigation buttons workin) may in fact have a bad board - but isn't doing too bad on batt....
If the "REAL Xt1575" (64mb) ever ships, would naturally consider replacing battery... it was new in 2017 (that's not new enough) before I go runnin' it as a DD.... THANK YOU for the input - I was seeing many reviews on Amazon for "flat" battery causing screen issues

That's damn curious. It's always possible they pulled a "Sony" and did some creative post engineering during assembly. Check the actual space's physical dimensions.
Excessive pressure on the display can certainly damage it.
My Note 10+ recently had a battery fail and it was bulging the rear cover out. Didn't spot it because of the case as I obstantly and repeatedly charged it from 0 to 100% trying to get fast charging working
Erratic fast charging is a symptom of an Li failure so I learned.
I was fortunate not to have damaged the display.
So in your experience, avoid the upgraded batts - they'll not fit?
The dealer i found on ebay is definitely shipping OEM parts, and if I send a message am certain he'll respond with the mfr. date.
I use a cell shoppe here that's motorla certified, might simply go with what they provide they're not cheap but stand by their work.

hi, if we started topic about battery replacement issues i will ask about my issue too, so few days ago i bought new battery for my moto x style that should be 3000mah but after few charges estimated capacity in accubattery is at around 2000mah, should i return this battery or should i try doing some calibration of it?
