[Q] KK update - am I missing something

Hi, maybe I have too simplistic an understanding of these things but I'm struggling to understand what seems to be a clamour to return to stock/unroot to allow the OTA to 4.4.2. I rooted and installed a custom KitKat ROM to remove the bloatware and to have a similar UI as my Nexus 7.
What would be the advantages of having of having stock 4.4.2 bloatware included ? My thoughts were to hang off until a custom stock KitKat ROM is developed and released, and flash that (if at all, DroidKangv1 is working very well for me on my D802)
Or am I way off the mark here and missing something obvious ?
Cheers,
np

The clamour is that its new. Its the latest and greatest with new things to discover. And new things are awesome. Ive gone back to stock and Im loving it so far, there's a lot of cool features that you miss out on by using aosp roms. There currently is a 4.4 stock rom in the developement section if your keen just be aware that there is no root for it yet.
I actually went back to stock 4.2.2 after experiencing issues using the camera and GPS at the same time on the custom ROM I was using.
If I wanted to flash a stock 4.4 kdz I presume it is the same procedure I used to return to stock but obviously with the correct 4.4 kdz file ?
Cheers.
Yeah correct its the same and its this rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665985
Theres plenty of info in that thread.
I thought about doing it but the mixed results people got sort of turned me off. And the fact that recovery doesn't work on it.
Should be interesting though.

[I9505] CM12 nightlies vs official stock ROM for Lollipop?

Hi guys,
Now that the stock ROM has been around for a week, I was curious if someone made the switch from CM12 or any other custom lollipop ROM to stock and would like to share their experience?
I, for instance, switched from CM11 (4.4.4) to stock and found the battery drain worse than in kitkat. Customization is also a clear drawback on stock lollipop since Xposed modules are not ported yet. Would like to know if any custom ROM matches the stability of stock and goes beyond it's features :what:
I don't usually use GPE or CM roms but I'm really really liking JFLTE-GPE 5.0.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353.
I've using it for a week and been having great battery. Last night I just installed Xposed alpha for Lollipop with GravityBox[LP} with no issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.ceco.lollipop.gravitybox
Using the same GPE rom as posted above for about 3 months. No problems.
It also has good battery life. If you let the phone idle, it will last you around 2 weeks
That's what the battery stats reported this morning.
I used CM11 for a long time, (since it was released till now), and I have to say, I'm a fan of being technical updated. ATM I'm using the Stock 5.0.1 Samsung Lollipop (of course, with removed Bloatware), and I'm afraid. I like the Samsung UI für the Stock, thats a little reason for me to use the Stock-ROMs. I don't have any Battery issues or find it worse than CM11. And even if, I've got my JBL Charge and Charge 2 to charge my phone in city. haha.
Well, i like them both but for now, I prefer Stock 5.0.1 (and can't wait for 5.0.2/5.1.0). Maybe i change back to CM12 (Antares/Alucard) when they made a 5.1.0 Update (forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-orig-develop/rom-cyanogenmod-12-t2943934).
I too used CM11 for a while on my i9505 and I loved the customization freedom. But I was pretty miserable about the battery life and overheating issues. Also, the stock camera was MUCH MUCH better than the one on CM 11 or even the Google Cam.
I am now back to stock with 5.0.1 and the battery life and camera have revived. But I equally miss the customization, so was wondering if anyone would recommend a custom ROM over stock.
I just went through an ordeal all for Viper4Android. Tried various kernel work arounds on stock 5.0.1 to get the V4A driver to install (no luck). Flashed to CM 12.1 and thought I was set only to find that cellular service (no sim card) didn't work. Flashed back to CM 11 and had the same issue. Then tried a ROM call Triforce and bricked my phone. Ended up doing a factory reset/wipe back to Lollipop 5.0.1 and now everything works again, but I'm not happy with the sound quality I'm getting now vs what I had with V4A under Kitkat. Wish I'd have never upgraded. V4A was wonderful. Anyway, CM 12.1 seemed to be pretty good for the short time I had it.
Part of me wants to try CM again but I don't want to go through all the problems.
Viper4Android needs a permissive kernel to work. If SELinux status is Enforcing then it won't work. Generally custom kernels have it set to permissive.

You are correct. The stock Lollipop kernel would never change to permissive no matter what the SELinux setting was. Very frustrating. Only solution that I could find was kernel replacement via a different ROM. Didn't quite work out though due to the cellular network loss.
Edit: back on topic, I made the switch but only out of necessity and not desire.

Upgrade or Wait?

With the impending release of Marshmallow, I've been wondering what to do since I'm an rooted. Wanted to gather some opinions. Do you guys think it is worth flashing back to stock to take the upgrade when it drops? Or just wait until a stable 6.0 rom (Cm 13 or AICP) hits and flash up to Marshmallow that way?
Just curious to see what all you are planning on doing!
I got the notice, but I'm Rooted, with su and TWRP and xposed and viper4 Android.I'm going to wait on Development, cause back to Stock and relocking bootloader, seems a bit much.

rom suggestions for i9500

I've used custom roms before but not that they are not necessarily more suitable.
I had an s2 that I tried a few roms on and settle with Omega which was a major improvement over the stock ROM.
I how have an s4 (i9500) that was acting up. I rooted it when I first got it with ODIN and have recovering already set up. A while ago I upgraded it to 4.4.2 and now want to try 5.1.1
After some trial and error I managed to get a 5.0.1 rom on my phone and I like it a lot better than 4.2.2 from what little I've used it. I'm thinking that it would make more sense to go with something 5.1.1 flavoured though. I'm not really sure which roms I should try though. I care most about stability, battery and responsiveness, especially the camera. What bothered me most about my phone is how long the camera would take to start up. That and my phone started shutting itself off every so often.
I know of cyanogenmod 12.1 and heard of paranoidandroid. What are the top roms I should consider. I've look through the threads here but it is a bit overwhelming in terms of choice, feature and volume of comments to suddenly jump into.
I've been flashing away... on my phone
Resurrection Remix LP v5.5.8
Blisspop 5.1.1
cyanogenmod 12.1
crDroid 5.1.1
I've found that 5.1.1 is really ugly and that these roms all look pretty similar- uly top bar and ugly icons
I tried LL V2.0 (5.0.x Lollipop) and I like it way more than 4.4.2
[WORKING sheard romv1.5]
I wish I could find a 5.1.1 rom that looks like 5.0.1
This is of course based on the assumption the 5.1.1 is better than 5.0.x in terms of stability and battery life.
What should I do? stick with LL V2.0 or can I get something that looks the same with a 5.1.1 core?

rom for sm-t357t

Anyone have a rom other than lollipop..
I just picked up a used one of these tablets and decided that after 6 years to get back into building ROMs. I will be getting everything setup right now but plan on making a aosp Lollypop, then move up to marshmallow.
Thanks so much its badly needed
Any update?
