Hi,
I am about to flash custom ROM (omega to be exact). Will Knox work? Is there something I need to pay attention too?
I don't think custom roms come with knox.
Only if they are based on stock and the dev decided not to remove knox files I guess.
But you can download it from google play right? Will it work without complications on custom room.
Don't want to sound a noob, but I am
It should. Since it doesn't say that it is device restricted or anything
Why the hell you want KNOX , everyone want to loose it !!!
Knox won't work, because on nearly every custom rom you have got root access. How should that be possible?

This KNOX thing is creating too much confusion. Somebody please clear it. Some say that KNOX won't allow us to root ar flash custom kernels n roms. Some are say that KNOX bootloader can be replaced. I am using GT-I9500 (4.3 official, MJ8 build number, not rooted), which i wish to root. What should i exactly do to get rid of knox?
Please help. Thanks

I too am confused with this whole Knox stuff. But from my experience, you can Root and install custom software but it will void your warranty. I'm not sure if it's any different on the 9500 as I've got a 9505 but there is currently NO way to get rid of Knox, once you've got it, you're stuck with it.

you can root after upgrading to knox
you can also install a custom recovery
knox counter (which is not really a counter if my understanding is correct) will increase to 1, meaning you will loose the waranty
so I was running the last S4 official firmware, I root'ed it using CF auto root, then installed philz touch recoveryn than i flashed the goole edition rom from jamal
and of course I lost the waranty, hope I wont need it

So now that i want to root my GT-I9500 (Indian, running 4.3 stock, MJ8 firmware), will CF autoroot work?

hi guys have an s4 in the uk im bored of stock touchwiz an want to install a custom rom. can i do this even tho its locked to 3? or do i have to unlock 1st? or does it not matter cheers guys?
Yes you can, you can change officially via Odin or install custom recovery and flash whatever rom you desire. I got my S4 back last year on o2 then flashed the BTU (unbranded UK version straight away) and now run the Google Edition rom. However I am on the bootloader and can flash whatever I wish without tripping KNOX but only via CWM.
What current firmware are you on?
im on three locked. firmware is the new 4.3 software.
so do i just root an flash cwm and im ok or?
Be aware as you have a KNOX bootloader installing recovery will trip this and you can't reverse it.

so what does this mean?
KNOX when tripped can cause issues with warranty. Now as we live in the UK we have warranty covered for 2 years by the EU. But it's like a warranty flag they could use that against you and not fix any issues, it will also disable KNOX which is a security feature but more for commercial rather than personal and it you will not be able to downgrade your firmware.

hmm so basically if i do this put a custom rom on then decide against it and want to go back to my stock rom or any other rom i wont be able to?
You'll be able to go back to whatever stock rom you were originally on or higher. I suggest looking in the android development section for the pre rooted roms, I think there are ways to flash a custom rooted rom without recovery without tripping the knox flag.
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk
ahh so its better if i just flash a pre rooted rom then?
so u think its better if i dont flash any recoverys but then how do i flash the rom over odin or?
I have a Sprint Galaxy S4. I old one broke and i got a another using my warranty. There was no way they could repair it. it had a rock go through the phone. My old one had the old bootloader and i rooted it, installed CWM bootloader and had custom roms on it. I liked it that way. My new one had the newer Kit Kat OS on it. I was aware of the KNOX counter on the newer version of android. I know i can root it with out tripping the KNOX counter but can you install custom roms on my phone. What if i don't care about tripping the KNOX counter can i still install CWM or Philz recovery? If so, will KNOX let me install custom roms. Basically i want to do what i used to do on my old phone; freely try different recoveries/bootloaders and custom roms, with out KNOX interfering. At the very minimum have root access and install any of the newer custom roms that are out there( particularly the Negalite rom.)
Yes you can. Search next time please. This has been answered before.

Qns on ROMs
Hi Guys,
My SM-9005 kitkat 4.4.2 kernel 3.4.0-1703205 baseband N9005DXUENE3 was rooted with Towelroot and I've checked with rootchecker, it says that I have root access. However in my phone's download page my system status remain as "official" instead of "custom". Is my device rooted properly? or Is this normal?
1) How to install custom recovery compatible with my device?
2) Currently my Knox remain as 0x0, will the process of installing a custom ROM trip Knox by any chance?
3) Are launchers only compatible with stock ROMs and not custom ROMs?
4) Currently what are the top Stock & Custom ROMs compatible with my device? (If I'm focusing more on games, performance, batt life and very low usage of S pen).
Thanks in advance!

Search before you ask for help. All these have been answered many times in this very forum.
Official or custom system status has nothing to do with rooting.
Find custom recovery from development section and flash it with Odin.
Custom ROM does not trip KNOX, but flashing custom recovery and/or kernel will.
What launchers you have in mind? Stock TouchWiz ones might only work on stock(-based) ROMs. Third-party launchers should work on all ROMs, though exceptions can occur.
There is no best ROM. Try different ROMs ones, see yourself what is best. A ROM may be best for one, worst for other.
Also - If you don't care about the journey of Android ROMs, you are not supposed to be here.

Hey mate! That's the advantage of towelroot. You are rooted without tripping knox warranty or changing the status to custom. In other words, you could still get OTA updates when it's available eventhough you're rooted

Hi,
Thanks for your clarification, still a bit confused though, and I don't understand you by "If you don't care about the journey of Android ROMs, you are not supposed to be here". Please don't feel offended as I'm new & total noob to the root & the ROM "world". FYI, I did search & read up the internet for information but I don't understand most of it. Thus I'm seeking help here.
1) In order to install & flash any Custom ROM, one must have custom recovery for back up first right? Since by flashing a custom recovery will trip Knox, then why do so many people (including me) trying so hard to find a way to root our devices without tripping Knox in the first place?
2) Does custom ROMs & kernels comes separately and not together? For example, I can install custom rom A and flashing kernel B from custom rom B or other sources?
3) Are there ways to customize or modify my device e.g Changing boot up animation, overclocking the processor, changing batt logo etc... while rooted and running on original ROM?
Hi guys so I'm really sorry if this has been asked millions of times but what I want to know is, does tripping the KNOX flag open a huge risk to normal system functionality not working? Now I know KNOX tripping, prevents you from using KNOX related stuff but does it stop you from an average joe using their phone normally, installing apps, sideloading apps, using the camera. That sort of thing.
The other thing is, I want to have a go at flashing custom ROMs to my device. My warranty runs out next month so this would be perfect, providing the above question is true (that it doesn't disable full functionality) I will go and follow normal tutorials.
Now I've been reading about SafeStrap and how it creates the ability to flash ROMs without touching vital system parts that would trip KNOX. Is this true? Could I really root without tripping, install SafeStrap and finally install custom ROMs without tripping KNOX or am I in a dream world haha?

Tripping knox does not affect phone performance, as for safestrap, as far as I know that has to be used on locked bootloader phones (like US carrier ones).
Once knox is tripped knox is tripped, I have heard the proggy that does not trip knox when rooting is Towelroot, but some people are having big problems with battery life.

Yes, it seems to be possible that you can flash custom roms without tripping Knox.

Without tripping knox you can get root, and modify the actual rom filesystem, for example you can change all /system of the rom using mobile odin pro.
You cannot change kernel or recovery, or you get knox 0x1.
Flashing roms with mobile odin pro is possible only if rom is compatible with your current official kernel you have, or the results would be bad (wifi not working or so on..).
