[Q] Strange info, is my S4, I9506 or SGH-I337(I9505)? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I got my S4 from UAE. On Box its written, Galaxy S4 I9506, 4G+. About menu also shows I9506, but Odin Mode (Download Mode) shows SGH-I337.
According to Specs, major differences between I9506 and SGH-1337 (which is also I9505) are;
S4 GT-I9506
Chipset Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800
CPU Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400
GPU Adreno 330
4G+
Speed HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps
LTE Cat4 150/50 Mbps
----------------------------------------------------------
S4 SGH-I337 (GT-I9505)
Chipset Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600
CPU Quad-core 1.9 GHz Krait 300
GPU Adreno 320
4G
Speed HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps,
LTE Cat3 100/50 Mbps
As written on Box its 4G+ having 2.3 Ghz QuadCore but using Apps like Hardware Info, Droid Info, CPU-Z, shows 1.9 GHz and Adreno 320. Furthermore some AT&T stuff is there but its not locked I am able to use Pakistani Sims on it. There is no update option available from the phone menu and Kies show Device as GT-I9506 and Firmware version as I9506XXUFNB7. All concern images are attached.
Please let me know what should i consider my phone I9506 or SGH-I337 in order to root and flash it.

My phone is running GPE rom. It's a GT-I9505 but, because of the rom, it shows in the menu that it's a GT-I9505G.
So I'd say that your phone has the wrong firmware installed.

Still confused, so is it I9506 or I337? and what can I do to fix it? because the warranty is not void. The wrong firmware came from the manufacturer?

I'd say it's an l337. The hardware doesn't lie.
Contact UAE and tell them about the issue.

and should I consider it from AT&T? its not locked to carrier but as AT&T stuff is there.

Since the phone may have the wrong firmware, it may have the firmware of an AT&T one.
Did you buy the phone as new?
But you should definitely contact UAE about it.
You paid for one phone and they sent you another. There are some performance differences.

As others have mentioned, the hardware does not lie. This is an AT&T S4 (SCH-I337) that has been packaged in a I9506 box.
However, to be 100% certain, go to this site and enter the IMEI number into the form. The results you get will provide a significant amount of detail about the phone, including who the original carrier was. In fact, the site is what told me that my I9505 was an O2 phone that had been unlocked. In your case, if you enter the IMEI, I suspect it will report the phone as being an AT&T phone.
From there, contact whomever you need to in order to resolve this, as what you received is different from what you expected.

if it is SGH-1337, how does the about menu shows GT-I9506 as model number? Also the sticker (under the battery) on the backside of phone has written GT-I9506
IMEI: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (i removed for security reasons)
Serial Number: xxxxxxxx (i removed for security reasons)
Model: GT-I9500
Division: Mobile Phone (HHP)
Production Date: July 17, 2013
Ship Date: July 24, 2013
Phone Age: 1 Year(s), 6 Month(s), 26 Day(s)
Factory Warranty Coverage: October 17, 2014
Now according to the site you provided its GT-I9500 and I9500 has 1.6GHz Exynos CPU, PowerVR GPU and no 4G LTE but as hardware doesn't lie mine has 1.9 GHZ Qualcomm, Adreno GPU and has 4G LTE.
More confused now, how to verify it now?

I told you. If you put the firmware of another phone on it, it will show up as the model from which you got the firmware.
And this can also be achieved by modifying the build.prop, I think.
As I said, I have a normal GT-I9505. But since I installed a Google Play Edition rom, the about phone menu shows my phone as an GT-I9505G. And every app also shows it as an GT-I9505G. Even AnTuTu. But it is not an GT-I9505G.
Why do you necessarily need to know what phone it is?
You obviously got the wrong one.
You paid for an GT-I9506 but got an some kind of Frakenphone (Frankenstein) instead.
Contact the vendor, tell them they sent you crap. There is obviously something wrong with the phone.
And, as I said, the hardware doesn't lie. I don't think you can make hardware pretend it is something else. E.g Make an octa core processor pretend it's a quad core. Or make the PowerVR chip show up as Snapdragon. I don't think it's possible.

by UAE i meant United Arab Emirates, I am now in Pakistan, I can't go back to replace it. The only reason I want to confirm it is to root and flash and custom recoveries roms stuff etc
so I don't want to apply the wrong files to a different hardware.
And what I'm worried about the Hardware Apps we use get the information REALLY from the hardware? or it gets it from Firmware or build.prop? as in your case Antutu shows it as GT-19505G but in fact its I9505. And now the IMEI checking shows its I9500 so I just want to confirm the hardware model so that I can proceed with rooting etc.

There has been a run of these frankenphones and every time someone gets one I tell them to return it, because it's too much hassle trying to get it working. Since you can't return it, sell it for parts on ebay and buy a phone from a reputable source. Even if you figured out every last detail of this frankenphone, certain things will never function on the phone due to location, i.e. LTE.

Which root method would you people suggest keeping in mind the current situation?

Nothing here. You'll need to head over to the AT&T S4 forums on XDA to root your frankenphone, as unlike the I9505 the bootloader is encrypted, i.e. locked.

How to get hold of the S4 Octa?

This week I'm upgrading and will go for the S4. I live in the UK and will go onto Vodafone, however I will be open to switch carriers. I understand there are 3 variants of the S4 the Korean, International and UK/US. And the latter being the Gt-i9505, with the Snapdragon 600 and Adreno 320, while the International is the Gt-i9500, which has the Octa chip and PowerVR SGX 544MP3, yeah I know people will tell me there is virtually no difference, however I'm interested in buying the i9500 as I'd like to see what such a chipset can do, and more so to the point, I dont want to spend so much money and not even be the best (me being me). So my question is, where can I buy on contract an S4 i9500, the 3g version? As after searching all the carriers websites I cannot find one anywhere, and the area I live anyway will never see 4g, so whats the point? If its impossible to get one through a carrier, is there anyway to find one without a £550 upfront cost? As buying the 505 would be pointless, as I wont buy the 4g deal, so I'll have a 4g capable phone which I cant use, in an area it wont appear, with a worse processor and GPU. If it is totally impossible I'll accept that however I like choices and as a buyer spending this much I would like a choice..
Thanks in advance for any answers!
I'm intersted in this too . .specially now that the AT&T S4 has the bootloader locked.
Does international (Octa) have LTE?

I dont even need LTE, so theres no point in getting the S4 with LTE which is worse .. will it be released in time? Or will i need to pay full price?

No one can say for sure, but you'll likely need to get the 9500 from an online retailer or another carrier. Samsung has yet to put the LTE radio in its Exynos SoC (system on a chip - what powers the 9500) so that's not going to happen mid-release for the Galaxy S4. And its highly unlikely they are going to release an LTE-enabled one and non-LTE one onto the same carrier in the same market. That just creates buyer confusion.
Only thing is for you "best of the best" types, the octa will run on the arm 7 chip most of the time. So in reality the snapdragon version is better, unless of course you just get off on running benchmarks all day. The arm 15 is the best but what's the point if it never gets used? Just my opinion, I have no right to tell anyone what they need. I WANT LTE, but all I really need is a big screen, email and a decent talker.

I see what you mean, and I've been checking performance numbers of both the sxg 544mp3 and Adreno 320, and it's pretty similar.. so I feel pretty happy to get the 9505. It seemed great in the shop, far smoother than my S3, thanks for everyones help:good:

Hong Kong Version: NO Octa-Core?

I'm probably the first (or one of the first) people in Japan to get the S4,having basically camped outside a local store for the better part of the afternoon waiting for their S4 shipment to arrive. Then I had the "pleasure" of paying roughly $920 for the thing... And now my confusion and question:
The store had indicated that there is an Octa-Core variant and Quad Core variant of the Hong Kong model, which I have. I specifically asked for the Octa-Core model. Upon running several benchmark tests just now however, I only see that this is a Quad Core processor. Is it possible that the benchmarks are wrong because they haven't been updated for the new CPU, or have I in fact, been given a Quad Core device?
Furthermore does anyone know if the HK version is available with both CPUs? That would be a bit strange if you ask me. There is no Qualcomm sticker on the device however.
Also I'm positively outrage that the device doesn't support Japanese language settings. Clearly the files are in the ROM but due to the user privileges with 4.2, none of the region changing software will work without root. I don't understand why some HK versions support Japanese language and others don't.

Where are you looking for the core details? Exynos Octa is 2 sets of quad cores, 4 A15 and 4 A7. Depending on the app it may report back as quad core. If the model of yours is i9500 3G only no LTE then it is Exynos Octa.

Model ID help

Hi all,
New here. Just purchased a Note III from a T-Mobile store and the rep said they didn't have any T-Mobile branded devices left and gave me an unbranded international version. The model number is SM-N900. Can someone give me guidance on which of the brand forums I should be frequenting? I'm assuming that the T-Mobile Note 3 forum is now inapplicable to me. Should I just be in this general forum and pay attention to the model # when doing anything to my device?
Thanks in advance!
Ok so this sound really weird
What u need to do is install CPU Z from play and in system check which processor u have if its Qualcomm 800 u are good and u can flash anyrom from any thread here except N900. So n9005/n90w8/n900t anything that has number othere then 0 or letter in the end.
Now if your cpu will say Exynos then u can only instal ROMS for N900 , as its a different chip and wont work, or brick.
The CPU is what makes the difference, u can be in any forum att or rogers does not matter, I have rogers and using t-mobile rom. The rom does not affect carrier its still locked to your carrier unless u unlock it.

Question for OP but where did you get this phone from, which state or country? It seems really weird they would give you an international phone.
You have the Exynos model number with the Snapdragon CPU... Seems fishy.
Are you in the US?

I live in NYC. I got the phone from a T-Mobile authorized retailer (not a T-Mobile store), and they said they ran out of the T-Mobile branded ones and that I could wait until next week, or just take the unbranded version.
My CPU-Z profile says the model is the SM-N900 (ha3gxx) and the CPU is ARM Cortex-A15.

[Q] Can't turn on LTE?

Hi all,
I have the s5 unlocked version in NY, NY which according to the box supports LTE (I know this seems obvious, but still). However, I popped my sim in and I can't figure out how to enable LTE. I've gone into mobile network settings (photo attached) and I also downloaded LTE toggles, but the just force close.
Any ideas?
[Edited: just added photos of the phone so we can skip the whole 'you don't have the phone' thing. I need some honest help here. Thanks!]
[Edited: The phone uid codes don't work, I get an error, and also the APN settings are correct (fast.t-mobile.com).]
[Edit: Turns out this might be solved. For whatever reason, the version of this galaxy s5 is the SM-G900H model, which apparently does not support LTE... why they would sell a phone that says "for sure in north america only" that is GSM only is beyond me.
Can anyone confirm that this variant does not support LTE?
The SM-G900H is the Exynos version(?) and does not have LTE antennas, but you can check it by installing Antutu or something that shows hardware information.
The "American SIM only" is Samsung's region locking irregardless of the phone variant, if it gets sold in the US, it has to have that.
EDIT: okay, I'm a bit confused as some SM-G900H info mentions the Snapdragon SoC. Definitely install some benchmark apps or system tool info to check the hardware.

What does Antutu device info says? If Exynos 5422, it won't have LTE, if Snapdragon 800 / Krait 400, it should have. In any case you should contact the store where you bought it, and if no LTE you should go for refund.

You should return it if possible, if they ask why, say you live in US and nobody told you it doesn't have LTE.
You can only get LTE if you buy a carrier branded version of the S5. In my opinion that is ridiculous. But that is how it is. The versions at Best Buy and Samsung do not include North American LTE support. I believe the version you have would only support AT&T HSPA+ (3G). If used on T-Mobile, it would only support band 2 3G (1900) which may be very limited.
Related to exynos 5422
Is there any way to use LTE On Samsung galaxy S5 Exynos 5422?
Thanks I'm a little new in this field

What kind of Galaxy is this?

My friend recently bought a phone from someone. They were told it was a Samsung Galaxy s4. She bought a net10 sim card that works off t-mobiles network. She got talk and text working, however, data does not work. She took it to t-mobile and they setup her apns, but it still didn't work. The rep there said it was a foreign phone, so they couldn't do anything with it.
Can anyone tell me what variant this is? I've looked online but can't seem to find anything.

I don't have the phone on me, but if there's anything other info that would help in identifying it, let me know and I'll try and get it. I've only dealt with HTC phones, so it's a little out of my realm.

Boot into download mode and there is your device model. The method you are using can easily be modified using a custom rom.
Analyzing your baseband , your phone probably is a i9500 (3G version). There's an app called Genuine Galaxy S4 . Install it and it'll tell you:

I've searched high and low on this model and all points to this not being a genuine s4.
Regardless in what version the baseband version saying it's a Chinese version.
Does the phone have an infrared port and does it work does all the specs match the i9500 (Chinese varient) or i9505 (international) also check the ram (should be 2gb) but run antutu benchmark as some of the "fake" manufactures (if it is) can modify the phone info with build prop editor to display false info
And install this app off playstore this will display all your phones info. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.innovationm.myandroid
However antutu benchmark is your best bet as if your score is between 22000 and 29000 then it could be genuine but if its 18000 or lower alarm bells should be ringing

I think CPU-Z from the play store also tells you the processor in the phone. Authentic Galaxy S4s have either the Exynos 5 Octa 5410 (GT-I9500), Snapdragon 600, (I9505 and US models), and also Snapdragon 800.

You could very well be correct, Bc she said there were some things on the phone that were in Chinese. Also, the settings didn't look like traditional touchwiz, but I could be wrong. I only saw it for a minute.
Unfortunately , I haven't been able to see the phone or hear from her again, so I can't download the apps listed or go into download mode. I'll let you know if I do hear from her again. Thanks everyone for all their help
