(Q) my phone won't go to deep sleep ? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my phone note 3 n900 with official Russian lollipop and with leaked one
i really start to hate the phone and i think of sell it because of this problem
i try factory rest and flash new ROM still the same problem even i try a new battery but the problem still the same and battery live get worst
my phone wont stand a half of day and screen on time in best time 4 hours and sometimes just 3 or 2 hours
what is the problem and how to fix it
see the screenshot

Looks like you've got a wakelock. Tried Wakelock detector? (If you're rooted.)
2-4h screen on time is very normal, by the way.
Have you tried removing the MicroSD for a while, if you're using one?
Sent From My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005 Using Tapatalk

I donot use sd card and just 2 hours screentime i think it is not normal because i need to charge my mobile twice in one day

You Might Have Bad mp3 Files.Use Wakelok Detector As Mentioned. If You Find 1013 Audimix On Top Of The App Then That Would Be The Prob.Or It Might Be Simething Else.

any help please

Hassan, you can't get any help without posting the required info. Install BetterBatteryStats or Wakelock detector (as someone already said) and monitor what app/process is keeping your phone awake mate. Those screenshots can't tell anything about this issue.

[Q] Android System is draining my battery a lot since I updated my phone to Kitkat

Before the update everything was fine. Now if I turn on the screen or listen to music the phone would awake (it would show that it was asleep in jellybean). When I turn off the screen and I am not listening to music then my phone falls asleep. Android system used to be awake under 20 mins over a 15-30 hr span now it can be well over an hour in 4-9 hr span. I did a factory reset yesterday already, uninstalled all of my apps and reinstalled them when I seen that the problem still exist. I googled the problem, but can't find a solution. Is anyone else getting a Android System battery drain like me.

Yes, I am having the same problem. I was told to do a factory reset but I cant even back up my phone with kies because it the MTP driver keeps failing to install and Kies says I have to use Kies 3 even though the Samsung Site says 3 is for the Galaxy Note..
Did you sideload your update or was it OTA?

yeah I side loaded the update and I am on 100% stock no rooting or anything. My phone gets really hot all of a sudden and the battery starts dropping like crazy. I have none of the apps running so I don't know what the problem is..

that is odd. I was reading the forums on the sprint galaxy note 3 update, and people have posted pix of their battery stats. Their stats looks similar to mine. The people there was saying that maybe the problem would fix itself over a week. Im hopping it do, because I am really loving kitkat...minus this issue of course.

oh wow. You definitely have an app that is not liking kitkat. Your phone does not fall asleep when you turn your screen off. Im really trying to figure out why your phone is doing that. Im going to assume that "lookout" and "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" are the problem. My opinion is that you don't need those as much as you think you do. they are most likely the cause of your drainage. My phone falls asleep as soon as i turn off the screen. Now i have 90% battery life with almost an hr of SOT left, and thats on 4g LTE the entire time.

Heres my stats new stats
I had alot of problems when on wifi, don't use it anymore and sticking with 4g. I'm at 30% left with just over 4 hours screen on. I'm guessing it's something either Google or Samsung have syncing more often on wifi, on wifi I'd be dead at 3 or 4 hours screen on time

Thats interesting. I haven't used my phone on wifi yet, because its a little inconsistent right now. If your phone is acting up while connected to wifi then it got to be something on samsung's end. You can end up with just over 5 and a half hrs of SOT if you stick to 4g and don't want any problems. I would keep testing how things go on both wifi and 4g over the next couple of days if i were you to see if the problems continues though. What problems are you getting while connected to wifi?

Another one of the major problems I am having is that sometimes my apps don't work. When i clicked on the camera it did not show up the app opens but the camera does not turn on. This leads to a major lag and when I try to press the home button it does not work. Then my phone's screen just shuts off and I cant turn it back on via the home button or the power button.
This also leads to the phone getting hot and losing the battery very quickly..
oh and btw the S5 does not seem to impressive to me..

What apps did you disabled, and could you include a screen shot of your battery activity if you don't mind.

i reset the phone and didn't install any apps and come to find out that its something that is already on the phone. I had no apps on my phone and android system and android os were in the top three that was taking up a lot of battery.
I recently had an issue with Android OS draining a lot of battery. I read somewhere that disabling stuff from Google sync that you don't use can help, so I disabled sync for all Google services except the ones I use, such as contacts, calendar, app data, people details, and play books. I rebooted and watched my battery for the next couple of days. And it worked. My battery life is a lot better, and Android OS is not using nearly as much battery as it did before. Perhaps this will help you guys?
***UPDATE on HOW TO FIX***
I HAD terrible batt drain with nae.. so bad that i left the device on the charger overnight qnd woke up to 35% batt... i got mad and reflashed stockish v6.. but.. batt drain was the same...
so.. here is what i did... i ended up flashing negalite r6 and the batt was so bad my phone would be dead within 1hr.. SO, FOR KICKS, i reflashed the MK2 modem and HOLY COW!, problem solved!!
im currently on negalite r6 ( a nae rom ) but using the mk2 modem and my batt drain problems are gone. in fact im getting great batt life. i didnt change the kernal or anything. i have flashed ktoonsez kernal over it, and it has not effected batt life at all...
in conclusion, if ur batt life sux, try reflashing mk2 modem.. it worked for me.. and yes 4g, mms, calls, and wifi work without any problem...
hope this helps

Battery and Mobile Data Problem

I have encountered 2 problems with my mobile I.e. samasung galaxy s4 i9500 runniny omega rom v20. They are as following:
1.I switched off my phone after charging it 100%, and when I switched it on after about 5-6 hours it had only 80% battery. I don't know how it lost 20% battery when it wasn't even on!
2.The mobile data both 2g/3g keeps ob activating itself from time to time even when I manually switch it off, I think maybe some app is doing this but I am not sure. I do not know how to check what is causing this problem, as this even causes massive battery drain.
I realised the data problem day before yesterday and the battety drain upon switch off yesterday, I can't help but think they are somehow connected but again I am not sure and don't know how to proceed to slove thr problem.
Any input would be extremely helpful, please reply soon as I am losing money over mobile data and am unable to carry my mobile away from charger for significant duration of time.

Hi,
First i dont have any idea about mobile data case.i always use wifi throught my wifi modem, but i can say a lot about battery matter coz i have a lot of case about it.infact my old battery was change at service with new one.
Well when i bought phone everything perfect battery draining i normal even low.but after i contuniuesly install application it getting bad.i mean not so bad but not like first time i use.Especially after i upgrade my android from 4.2.2 up to 4.3 then 4.4 it become worst.Battery drainin like crazy even like u said while phone switch of battery still drainin and without using phone i lost %10 sometimes %15 percent.İf i turn on not use (just on stand by with screen locked) i sleep at 10 and morning 7 already become 35% (From %95).Anyway i went to Samsung service many time. They complain to me that (Android 4.3 and above is take a lot of memory!!!and it effect to battery draining).Sure im not bieleve it.I know very well that Android cant effect up to this point. They change my battery.Still same.Nothing change.A few days later i start to thınk that one of my application cost this draining. Then i start to uninstall my applications one by one (especially visual applications like living Wallpapers,Clock Gadgets,Weather gadgets, dll). Finally i found the application which cost fast draining. It was "animated clock widget" and i never install it again.
So what i advise to you that uninstall all ur visual applications.Yeah maybe with this kind of application the visual on ur phone looking perfect but if u need battery in daytime it will be huge problem for u.For example just think that u install weather gadget and this widget need "GPS on" for see ur current location and giving u a weather data.if u dnt want to uninstall,at least buy one big capacity power bank and keep it on ur left hand as u keep ur phone on your right hand.
Hope it s normal again.Thanks...

That had been my first thought, but after closing all apps and not using phone even when it is turned on it drained only 1% or 2% battery in an hour, this was the case 2 days back. I don't think anything new is there on my phone since then; But still mobile data keeps on turning on itself and battery is draining even when phone is switched off. I am thinking, would a reinstall of rom be more helpful? Or uninstalling all apps one at a time?
You battery probably just needs to calibrate again. That's normal if you change roms. It should stabilize.

This is not only about installing application brother.Just think.U install one widget (Can be clock widget or "animated clock")that widget will only take place in ur widget menu,as long as u not use that widget.but after u place that widget on ur home screen, everything going to change.Like ur cpu,ram and battery usage. And no matter u use ur phone or "its screen lock mode",application still contunie to drain ur battery.(Generally people put some widgets to their Home screen for gettin cool home screen but as i told u,u can find other solution,if battery issue not problem for u.Like power bank.)So coz i had same issue, with my experience all i can say to u that first, try to install all widget application which install on ur system,Second be sure, after use application clear ur ram.
About Reinstall rom...i just did this process yesterday.i mean install room.coz i made a bad mistake while i root my phone and swap my memory.Phone dont wont boot even.and i downloaded Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 firmware (Rom) and install it with odin.Everything went perfect.I success the install original room than after some steps my phone boot again.it was looking just the day i bought. There is no more root access, not any application before i install, and same widgets and applications which i seen when i bought my phone. For sure it will solve ur problem for a while but it will repeat after your install process for your old application.

Android System using too much battery

Hi,guys!
I can't figure out why the Android System is using more battery than others. I feel like it is awful.2 hours and17 minutes of off the charger time and I'm at 86% with wifi-on and leave my phone on airplane . I have been spending most of my time trying to find ways to save battery and it is barely working, or at best working inconsistently. I might need to try a replacement. What do you guys think?
Does anybody knows how to fix it? I'm out of ideas.
I had the same problem on my moto x. I had to uninstall all the updates to anything google related.

its the same with my s5, after all day when i check my battery stats android system uses the most battery. i'm trying all things to sort it out
Yes, sync troubles… I think that too…

I don't have it quite as bad but removing carrier IQ has helped a bit, Go get system tuner and go into app mgr and find android system press details then open and go through activities, receivers and services and make sure everything you see that says IQAgent gets unchecked. This will help you stay out of ServiceIQ's eyes and also help your battery as your entire phone is debugged through those apps.(Another words I can't find the darn post that I used to help me)

I have prepared a short guide to do that if it would help you... Here is the link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799642
How exactly is this bad? The guy has close to 30 minutes for 10% of battery life, so proportionally close to 5 hours total screen on time for a full charge and this is supposed to be abnormal? Screen on time is purely on what you should base yourself first because you have no idea on what the phone reports as "Android system". As far as I know, if you had 5 minutes of screen on time instead of 30, that would be a problem worth investigating....but 30 minutes for 10%? You should not try to find issue where there are none.
Let me show you why you can't rely on phone stats. Here is my screenshot for today. Just from looking at it, you can already see i have some kind of huge wakelock problem, severe battery drain, especially if you consider I only have about 1h15 minutes of screen on time. Anybody looking at this could see that there is a problem with my phone. The fact is, there isn't. I had a 4h16 hour conversation today, but, my phone only reports voice calls taking up 12% of my battery life. Thats because other features are not included in the voice calls tab, like how the sensors have to always check if i'm close or not to the screen to turn it on or off, or the fact that it has to manage my wifi connection while using my mobile connection that is about 1 bar in my room. There are too many unknown factors to solely rely on what you see here, or on OPs screenshot. If you have 30 mins of screen time, and have 10% battery drain, thats fantastic. Don't forget, only 1 gen ago, having 3 hours of screen time with a full charge was awesome.
Now, I am doing what I read from a guide. I just plug it in every night and only use Ultra Power Saving in the day. From the guide,I would have full internet, phone and message capabilities with maximum battery life each day. Then I can leave off UPS on weekends and holidays to enjoy all the other apps.

[SOLVED] FINALLY! 4.4.2 KitKat Battery Drain

Hello to all!! I've had the same problems like the 90% of the people that installed the 4.4.2 update on my Note 3. Android OS was almost always awake and was draining the battery like hell!! Sometimes even 40% battery drop over a night!! I've tried almost everything! Factory reset - some said that a simple reboot and many other not usefull things in forums that other people suggested!! Nothing worked. Sorry for all these I say but I am very frustrated with all these people that suggests things without even knowing the problem or even tried first do some things for it. Maybe I am wrong for this but anyway. Lets continue..
SOLUTION:
1st of all! You must have root access.
2. Buy and install Autostars from google playstore! 1.5€ is nothing from what this app gives you...!!
3. Open autostarts and give root access to the app
4. It will scan your phone for all the apps running etc. When its done you will get a categorised list with actions your phone does in many different situations. Like when you put a charger or open wifi or close mobile data etc etc...
5. open the category "after boot" and underneath you will see all the actions your phone does after booting inside android system.
6. Disable the following actions:
Camera test
Camera
And anything else at you own will! Maybe you dont want to start facebook.. youtube.. etc after boot! Even though if you are not an expert on all these things (like me) dont touch any other system apps. (System apps are yellow colored inside the app) Also I've read somewhere that you must disable and the camera button in lockscreen. I don't know if this helped also. You can try it on your own. I've had it disabled in my phone from the begining. All these worked for me under NG2 kernel. I haven't tried it with NF4 kernel but I thing that it will be the same.
7. Final step. Just reboot
All the battery drain comes from a sensor in the camera that stays on after booting your phone and it doesnt leave your phone go sleep even with the screen locked. Before those things Ive hand 12-14hours roughly battery lifetime. The android os was awake the 10 hours in these 12-14 hours.... now I am 12 hours on battery with heavy use and I have 78% battery... Android Os now is just 1-2minutes awake in 12hours of use.... I hope that works on everyone try these things! I would be very happy if this works in all of you!! I was 3 days over my phone to find a solution and Ive read tooooo many forums!
Finally sorry for my english. I know that I am not very good but I ve tried..
EDITED: Uploaded pics of the HUGE difference!!! The attached image is before!
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
Camera Test APK can be deleted. Will try that.
My Note 3 with KitKat 4.4.2 seems to do great with battery use. I've seen it only lose one or two percent from a full 100% charge after 8 to 12 hours if I'm not using it much. The big difference in the way I use mine however is it's in Airplane mode all of the time. I suspect that part of the phone may use a fair amount of power and depending on how far your nearest cell tower is will use a lot more power for phones that are further away from a cell tower. Phones make brief transmissions even when you are not using your phone to stay in touch with the cell tower unless you are in Airplane mode.
I am using Autorun Manager to try this out.

Can't find Autostars app, can you post a link?

I believe that freezing an app and stop it from running is better than deleting it! If you freeze it and you have a problem you can just unfreeze it. Deleting it making a lot more time to fix the problem.. But sure I believe that if you can delete it then you will have the same result.

Hello my friend! As I said in the main post this problem can be found in the majority of the phone that running the 4.4.2 kk rom. Sure the phone antenna consumes more battery when your phone is at greater distances from the cell tower and when you lose some more battery 'juice' because of this it is not considered as a battery drain problem... this is normal! Also Ive said in the post that the battery drain was from the android os and not the cell tower. When you go to the battery information to see the consumptions you will see that android os and the cell tower is in different categories. Anyway.. you should be very happy because belong to the minority of this 4.4.2. Problem and you dont have to do any of the above to get your battery back!

Terrible battery - no deep sleep

[FIXED]
The problem was related to the motherboard. With the new one everything works properly.
Hi,
I have seen a battery drain for a one week. I can't stand with it. The battery drains very fast - especially at night because I got over 30% battery lose with everything turned off! I tried to wipe cache and factory reset but these ways didn't work. I dunno what's going on but it makes me sick. I think that the phone doesn't go into the deep sleep, because "Android System" takes a first place when it comes to the battery usage. Actually the battery is quite new (97,5% real capacity) so I guess that's a problem with system. I don't want to root my phone because of the knox privileges.
I attached a screenshot which shows a night usage of the battery (when I unplugged - battery percentage was 75%).
Any solutions?
What I tried:
- turn off Wi-Fi scanning
- turn off Bixby
- battery saving mode
- wiping cache
- factory reset (but I've used a backup - if that matters)
Didn't work.. So please, help me
i have exactly same problem for about two weeks. Android system is the first place in battery usage, even before screen, if i dont use phone too much. On samsung community there more people with this problem.
Maybe problem is polish version? Też jestem z polski, jedynie problem mam na modelu z plusem. Jeśli znajdziesz rozwiązanie napisz je proszę (if you find the solution please write it here)
Try not to use a backup, just for a dat or so.
Do you use OPV CSC? Or XEO? Which security patch? My is september. I unfortunately use OPV (Orange) and maybe that's the problem. Can you o provide a link to the Samsung community discussion?
I did a totally clear factory reset yesterday and it still doesn't work. ?
My sot is around 2h...
Same issue with me also.. stand by time is around 8-9 hrs only..
Not sure what happened.. service center ppl asked me to change the battery only..
Turn off GPS and your battery will last forever. On my S8 plus I only turn on GPS when really needed.
I have exactly same problem in s8+. Android system draining my battery for about 2 weeks. SOT in 2-3h.
@vemangor i've got Xeo and problem exist.

2 weeks? Lol my problem has occured for the same period. I have no Idea what I can do with it. The biggest drain is always when the screen is off and I don't use my device .
Nothing actually works... the worst battery experience I've ever seen
same for 2-3 weeks..
1) display
2) android system
3) android os
4) device standby

Maybe you have apps that run in backround, just try to disable few apps(apps-show system apps- disable allow backround data usage),and disable body sensors from GmsCore from google, you can find it in permissions.
I dont have gmscore and playstore anymore on my S8+,and i have 8 hours SOT,these are the apps that i use right now,i've debloated everything that i dont use and i have Alexisrom 5.6.1

I use the stock rom. I do not wanna to install any custom because of the Samsung Knox. I did factory reset for few times and no one fixed the battery problem.
