Lillipop Wifi Issue (connect and disconnect between 4g and WiFi)) - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have the strangest behavior with my wifi, the phone keeps connecting and disconnecting between 4G and WiFi every few seconds when i'm at home. This drains my battery in couple of hours and I can't do anything unless i turn off WiFi. I have smooth transition between 4G and Wifi enabled in settings (i've tried disabling it, all it did was to speed up connect and disconnect between 4G and wifi) Anyone else experiencing this strange behaviour with WiFi and 4g?

I have the same behavior. You need to disable "Smart network switch" under the advanced Wi-Fi settings. I have not found a fix that will allow leaving this feature enabled.

I disabled the "smart network switch" and my phone still refuses to connect to known networks that are well within signal range. It may be staying connected better once connected but I have my wifi sleep with the screen so when I wake it up, the wifi should re-connect. Not working well at all. This 5.0 update sucks, you'd think that since Verizon takes forever to get updates to flagship phones that at least they'd be well tested and stable, NOT!

Connect to WiFi network timeout?

Hello. I'm sure that this must have been discussed but I cannot find the answer using search. As is surely normal, I use WiFi within the home and GPRS when there is no WiFi available. If WiFi is connected and I go out for a short while, then when I get back in a WiFi area, the WiFi is still connected. However, if I go away for a long time, and GPRS is used for perhaps a regular weather update, then the WiFi disconnects and has to be manually reconnected upon return to home. This leads to GPRS being used in a WiFi area unnecessarily if you forget to re-connect WiFi. Is there a WiFi connection timeout value or any other setting that can be changed? My old TyTN II did not have this problem. Thanks.
Try this CAB
It disable disconnecting WiFi when phone is in sleep mode and with this phone automaticly connects to WiFi when Leo will be in range.
Thanks Franq_23_pl. I think that the CAB just stops WiFi disconnecting when the device is in sleep mode. That will just drain the battery, surely? My old TyTN used to disable WiFi when in sleep mode, but as soon as you switched it on again, WiFi would be enabled and it would connect if in range. The problem with my HD2/Leo is that if I am away from my WiFi for some considerable time (ie, most of the day), then when I get back home and switch the device on, WiFi is disabled, and I have to manually toggle in on. So my question is..... What are the circumstances that cause WiFi to disable itself, and Is there some way of stopping it happening?
OIC now. I think you having some battery saving app and this app turning off WiFi when iz not used. What apps or registry mods you have installed on Leo?
You have the same behavior after hard reset?
My Leo don't disable WiFi. When i go outside (for ex to work) and back after few hours my Leo connecting to my home wireless network automaticly.
I remember, that i had the same problem like you and it was caused by app, which had duty to save battery.

WIFI Issues

I've had my Nexus for about a week now and noticed two strange issues with the WIFI connection.
1. I can connect to WIFI successfully at home but as soon as I go out and it switches to the 2G network and then later go back inside the WIFI doesn't auto connect it will stay on 2G, I have to disable and enable WIFI to connect to my home WIFI, is there a way round this or is it a bug?
2. Whenever I'm out an about and the phone detects a WIFI network even if its not configured to connect to the WIFI network the phone seems to disable 2G Data connection and continually notifies me of a WIFI network being in range and wanting to configure it, is there anyway of disabling this behavior and allowing the 2G Data connection to be active when no configured WIFI network are in range?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jon
Really can't help you much on the settings as I don't quite have my N4 but you should always turn wifi off when you're not using it. You will get much better battery and you wont have problem with #2. Sorry I couldn't really help much.
Sent from my epic touch, waiting for my Nexus 4

I have the same issue number 1. I find the battery is getting used quickly and the wifi will not connect. if i disable then enable, it quickly connects to the known wifi signal. I can see a different battery decay slope if I let this problem persist for a few hours, it then reverts to its usual slope once wifi is restarted. This problem usually only occurs once a day on average. I hope someone knows how to solve this issue.
cheers

[Q] Keep losing WiFi connectivity

I have an SGH-I337 that is running Cyanogenmod 11-20151112-SNAPSHOT-M12-jflte with baseband I337UCUAMDB, and I am experiencing some odd WiFi behavior.
The WiFi will be connected, showing in both the notification bar and the WiFi settings, the notification bar with show traffic (blinking up and down arrows), and yet apps won't be able to access the network. I can restart the WiFi via settings and this will usually restore app connectivity, though not permanently; eventually apps will lose connectivity again. Rinse; repeat.
At times I'll get annoyed at having the WiFi problems and turn WiFi off and use LTE. However, the WiFi eventually turns itself back on, often times exhibiting the connectivity issue that drove me to switch to LTE.
Another issue is that the WiFi will forget the settings for a given network. The WiFi app will simply show the network, not indicating that settings are saved, and I'll have to enter them again.
I haven't been able to establish a pattern to these issues, and it's driving me mad! Has anyone seen anything like this? Have any suggestions, besides taking a handgun to the phone?

"Failed to connect to network"

Lately I've been having serious trouble connecting to Wifi networks. This occurs both on my workplace network and home network. I have tried resetting my Network Config, but this didn't fix anything. The only thing I've found that will allow me to connect to Wifi is to restart the device - but I have to do this every time I want to connect to a different Wifi network than I was connected to previously.
One strange thing that happens with this is that when I disable Wifi - whether it be via quick settings or in settings - it doesn't actually disable Wifi. The toggle switches to off, but I'm still able to see nearby Wifi networks. The only way to fully disable Wifi is to enable Airplane Mode.
This has been happening recently since I performed a Factory Reset, flashed the latest factory image, and rooted.
Anyway, any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
UPDATE: Looks like switching from Automatic Wi-F- frequency band to 2.4 GHz fixes the issue, but that's not really ideal, as I prefer my 5 GHz network at home.

LG Leon Hotspot turning itself off

LG Leon - 3 Network - UK Stock ROM recently upgraded to Marshmallow Stock OTA Upgrade.
The "create wifi hotspot" feature was working fine for several months on Lolipop. Recently updated to Marshmallow and the hotspot feature now randomly switches itself off. The duration the hotspot will stay active seems completely random. Sometimes it'll work for minutes other times hours. The connection timeout is set to never. I've had the hotspot die while I was watching a Youtube video so it switches off while the connection is being used. Phone screen on or off seems to have no effect. The phone is fully charged/charging and has a decent 4G signal. The phone is not hot or overheating.
I generally activate the hotspot via the toggle in the pulldown menu. For clarity when I say the hotspot switches itself off the phones data connection remains active and connected. It's the wireless hotspot feature which just randomly turns itself off.
After a bit of googling it seems quite a few people have the same issue. It was suggested I clear the cache, wipe user data & disable the hotspot timeout. I have done all of this, but the problem persists. Has anyone else had a similar problem, either on this or other LG devices? Was there a workaround?
At this point I'd like to roll-back the update and continue using Lolipop. Is this possible?
Thanks guys.
