What more do you want besides unlocked bootloader which isn't gonna happen? We got root and quite a few ROMs. I don't even know what's left for the devs to do really after verizon locked down the latest kernels.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

Several ROMs have gotten updates in the past week or so.

I should've been more specific. I actually meant as far as lollipop Roms. Do we really have to wait on Verizon to release until we see a proper ROM?

Yes and any exploit in Lp if made public before vzw drops Lp means they can patch it to close the exploit to once again mount us.
If your wondering why we have to wait it is because the locked bootloader we have to run official based kernels and roms if we don't then the bootloader chokes and says no. So unless some kind of miracle happens we will never be able to load asop and will be forever tied to carrier releases.

[Q] Why is there a CM rom for ATT?

i thought we were still waiting for the verizon model to come out before the unlocked bootloader method to be released. how are we able to have CM for ATT? is it this Loki stuff that is making that possible?
Some people bought their phones off contract and have unlocked bootloaders. Also by using a company for a fee can get you an unlock code.

Sorry for the noob question, but I got my AT&T S4 from Best Buy with my 2 year upgrade contract for $200, and my friend bought his from Best Buy AT&T S4 off the contract except a lot more expensive at $749.99. Is there a difference as I thought they were both i337 models... and all were locked bootloaders...
Not to mention if you use the OUDHS recovery, it's set up to Auto-Loki any ROM which is why it would make a TW-based CM work just fine. That being said, you're going to be dealing with nightlies, so if you're not ready to have a few issues here and there, it's not worth it to you to install it until an official release comes along.

Buying through the major carriers means a subsidized cost. If you're buying off-contract, it means you're the one paying for that subsidization and not the carrier, hence the larger cost. This is exactly why people flock to CL when buying phones off-contract because it's significantly cheaper, It doesn't change anything about the phone's internal hardware, An I337 bought at BB off-contract is still the same physical model as one bought on-contract through an AT&T Store.

I think you're a bit confused. What you're talking about is for a SIM unlock. Completely unrelated to the bootloader unlock we're mentioning here. As of right now, there is no bootloader unlock available for the AT&T/VZW GS4s
oh i thought it came out on the 30th.. so i guess i gotta search around for the unlock method? not sure i understand this "Loki" stuff

Loki is not really an unlock, it's more of a way to circumvent the bootloader since as of right now there's no way to unlock the AT&T variant GS4s. Look at this thread first to download what you'll need for root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248
After that, you can visit this thread here and find what you'll need to use a recovery. Here's one that will Auto-Loki your ROMs for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291956
Or you can run TWRP/CWM and flash this kernel after installing whatever ROM you choose for Loki:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292341
With these tools installed, you can now run any ROM of your choice, but try to stick to those more closely based to the stock ROM as you can to keep all of your features working.
Hope that helps.

Just keep your eyes on a thread for the GW fix. Should be in the Android Development (not Original) thread. I've skimmed past it several times in the past couple days. And, yes, OUDHS will auto-Loki. TWRP as of right now will not.

Should I even bother trying to upgrade to MF3?

Just install one of the stockish MF3 based ROMs or International Update based ROMs from the development section and you will have the best of both worlds. You will get any enhancements from the update (if there really is any) and still be able to keep custom recovery and use other ROMs / themes / etc.
If you update to MF3 (OTA) you will lose the ability for custom recoveries and ROMs.

Confused on rooting

First off sorry if I have missed something but I have been doing some reading but am slightly confused.
I am looking at a Verizon Note 3 on ebay to keep unlimited data since I just sold my Note 2 which was rooted and running a custom rom which is kinda a must for me. Where I am confused is I see tutorials on how to root the note 3 but I also see a petition to have verizon unlock the bootloader. When I hear locked bootloader I think no rooting and custom roms. So did verizon just recently lock the note 3 down like they did with the note 2 4.3 update? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Basically I just want to be able to root my Note 3 but am not worried about voiding any warranties with verizon since I'm buying it on ebay or something. Feel free to post links to this answer since I'm not opposed to reading just kinda overwhelmed right now.
Thanks for answering my stupid question and have a great weekend!!!

Oh I don't doubt it for a second!! That's why I was confused saw plenty of custom ROMs but didn't really pay attention to tw or not. Not really an issue since I've been having crazy battery draining issues on everything I put 4.4.2 on. Haven't done my research but I'm sure it won't be long till 4.4 tw hits the note 3 anyways.

What is "locked" on the retail device is the recovery and boot partitions. They are crypto-signed and verified early in the boot sequence. Until the phone is hacked, it means it is impossible to boot a non-Samsung kernel or non-Samsung recovery. Even if you intentionally blow the Warranty flag on the phone, this behavior will not change.
So, while you can root, whatever "ROM" you want to try and use must play nice with a STOCK kernel (& ramdisk). So, no CM for example.
Also - because of "version upgrade locking", if you upgrade a stock kernel (let's say MJ7 -> MJE), you might not be able to use Nandroid restores of previous ROMs you formerly used any longer... depending on how tightly the ROM depends on kernel & ramdisk behaviors.
And one more thing - the Safestrap "psuedo-recovery" actually boots the beginning of a stock ROM (or whatever you have in the "stock slot"). One consequence of this is that you no longer have a separately bootable recovery to fix up mistakes or restore backups from. If you wedge the primary OS somehow, the consequence of that will be a loss of all data on the phone which is not backed up, and a trip to Odin to restore a pure stock firmware ... and starting all over from square 1.
(If you buy a Note 3, you might want to consider a BIG removable SD card - then you will have room for media/backups/etc that is not vulnerable to an Odin flash)
So basically, you have a limited form of rooting available.

There really was only a very short window of time to unlock the bootloader. Unless you got an M after the update that was still on the original firmware. Almost right after Rosenberg published, Verizon sent out their exploit patch... I really wish Verizon would stop doing this stuff. It makes no sense.

KitKat troubles
I purchased two used Razr M's for use on Straight Talk. After using Radiocomm, the phones worked great. My wife updated to KitKat and lost her service. I used Radiocomm on hers and have it running again. I upgraded mine also and now we both screwed. Modem Fast Dormancy Monitor Service error pops up all the time. I watched mine screen come on like a reboot three times yesterday. Before I went to bed, I noticed that I had no service. A reboot and service came back. I sent two emails to Motorola and have no reply as of yet. KitKat runs great, but now I just may have to buy two more phones. I don't see any help coming and would advise people to stay away from these phone unless using on Verizon. I didn't know all the trouble a locked bootloader and not being able to root would cause. I read that it had been implied that Android slow release stages were to cause people to buy new phones for updates. So I guess the KitKat issues I'm facing are the same. Encourage me to buy before my wife skins me alive!
There is a fix for the Modem Fast Dormancy bug but it requires root in order to edit the build.prop and disable it.
Without root, it is possible there maybe a way to disable those functions by editing the NVM, but it will require some considerable work to isolate the NV Items and parameters responsible.
After editing the build.prop the phone performs pretty well under KK for GSM/WCDMA service.
I will try and take a look at the NV dumps and see what I can find. No promises.

Not sure what you are looking to gain from updating. I've been told adding mods as you like to mock update, as oppose to taking the update and losing root because of the patched exploit is the better way to go.

Nope, locked bootloader prevents changing the kernel, so once you upgrade that's it.

I saw a question just like this about a month ago and one the replies was something like this... " if you people out there want the new stuff just to be running NEW, you shouldn't even be rooted because you don't really understand the value of it. You don't even appreciate it." You should be happy, as it is, with the fact that that there are at least 5 Custom Rom's out there AND all you had to do was sideload an apk. Updates are not necessarily stable OR really add anything...usually just a patch for those that are too eager for "New", so you can't be rooted.
Why do you think there are OTA blockers on these Rom's? For a reason. It's just too easy now. You didn't even have to plug your phone into your PC and execute a console exe like for the S2. Some of us actually had to wait patiently for like a month just hoping for a developer to find an exploit! :SMH:
