[Q] Can we put apps/games on USB drive - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got one of these and immediately rooted it. I bought a thumb drive and side loaded stuck mount, I'm able to read and write, but how can I move let's say, MC5 and Nova 3 or whatever else to the USB drive and still the games? What am I missing? I've searched and scanned through these forums and haven't found my answer. Is this just not possible on this thing yet? If it isn't, than what's the point of this thing? What was google thinking putting 8GB on this? As if memory is so expensive nowadays.

Phone loops at android screen if SD card is not inserted

for some reason, my phone is unable to boot up and loops at the android screen if my SD card isn't inserted. I use apps to SD, moved all apps, cache and dalvik-cache. I commonly use Nandroid backups to. Is there any reason for this? I am running Haykuro 5.0.2H. This isn't a big issue for me, and I really don't mind. (73 MB Free on phone ) Just curious if anyone else has this issue.
Well let's think about this for a second... you symlinked the apps folder to the sdcard. If you reboot and the sdcard is missing, you don't think the os is going to freak out a little? I mean it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put two and two together here...
Haha that was what I was thinking... just wanted to see everyone else would agree on that.
you wasted space on a forum for such a ridiculous question...
and it doesnt take that much brain power to put two and two .....
this is why so many members get mad because of stuff like this...
just search next time...

or post on an existing thread that talks about problems with haykuros roms

If you haven't noticed the Haykuro thread is getting new posts literally every minute. It is nearly impossible to get anything answered in there. I want to know WHY this is so. How does having applications on an SD card prevent the phone from booting if it isn't present?
I would like to see you make your own conclusion about why this is so. It may make sense just to think about it, but to explain it is another issue.
I don't think this was a ridiculous question, because it is something I want to know. Your answer however was quite rude.
Edit:
Actually, I believe I am one of the first to bring up this question. Why don't you go search the forums for something like this. I did, there was nothing relating to an issue like this.

I Accidentally Deleted My Copy of Avatar

Something went horribly amiss while trying to transfer the movie from the preinstalled 2 gig to my 8 gig memory card. Although I was able to play the movie one time on my vibrant, the Avatar icon now says "File Not Found" when clicked. I cleared the 2 gig sd card before giving it away so now I'm left without a copy. Is there anyway I could procure a copy from a forum member or is the issue phone related?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you moved avatar.dcf you're fine. The icon is set for a specific location which would be where it was on the SD card before and now that it's not, the shortcut icon doesn't work. I moved my copy of Avatar to the internal SD card with EStrongs File Manager (Copy not cut).
Well I click on the folder named Movie on my SD card, but it is no longer there. I'm not sure what I should do? Could Samsung give me another copy or am I just out of luck?
In worst case senario..you can reflash the phone with the rom dump thats in the Android Development section here...

Will that require root? I've rooted my old MyTouch so I'm not worried about that, but I don't think I'm quite ready to root this phone.
The rom dump that was posted by Wes doesn't include Avatar.
i was actually wondering where Avatar went, but thanks to this thread I know that's because it is on the SD card and not internal storage.
Funny, I accidentally deleted my copy of avatar as well. One of the first things I did was take a few test videos, to get a feel for the quality, and when I was going through removing them I clicked the wrong thing and avatar was gone.
No big deal though, I didn't really want to watch it for the fourth time anyway.
I accidentally deleted Avatar through camcorder app as well. There is no file info given and just a plain "broken" icon, so I deleted it. No warning from the OS either. Lame. T-mobile store would not replace the phone without a restocking fee (manager was a nightmare). I called Samsung and was told that since the movie is installed after-market on the external SD, there is nothing they can do to replace the file. So it is all on TMO to help anyone with this issue. TMO customer care does not have a direct link to a download and will not send a replacement SD. Finally I got the rep at the store to agree to swap my SD with the next Vibrant return that comes in. That's good enough for me. Avatar is waaaay to easy to inadvertently delete from the phone without warning. Be careful.
I HAD the same problem. I put the movie on a 16GB SDHD and the link broke, as in "File Not Found" The folder I put it in I called 'Movies' and it should have been 'Movie'. Once I took the s off of the folder name the link worked again.

Do you have AIM? PM me your AIM and I can send the file to you directly. It might take a while, but hey...at least you'll get it.
Funny how out of all the responses, no one even offered a solution.

The solution you offered Violates the DRM
He took the proper steps, TMO should have been able to help him
So is there no way to get it back if it was accidentally deleted? I contacted both Tmobile and Samsung and neither provided me any help. I'd really like the movie if someone could assist!

You could try to go a T-mobile store and see if they have any in returns (which might be hard I haven't had any returned yet) and see if they can swap out the 2gig card for you.
The problem being that each copy of the file is licensed to an individual phone - even if you get another copy, it may not play.

I actually JUST left the store minutes ago...(bought a gel case...$16.99, lol)
He actually said they haven't had ANY returns, and they've sold about 70 phones which he was SURPRISED at...he said it's unlike any other phone he's sold(and that it's made him a few dollars this month.)
Any other options? or do I just wait for a return?
i accidentally deleted avatar too. but thankfully the tmo store by my job had a return. they swaped out the sd cards and it works. you may have to wait awhile for a return but atleast you'll get it back. the only other way i can think of is if you have the dvd you could rip the movie and put it on your phone.

OK, well if this is true, I stand corrected: I guess the DRM isn't tied to an individual device.
You know what's funny? I deleted it on purpose. Don't get your panties in a bunch it's just a movie.
Sent from my SGH-T959
Same issue, movie just got deleted. This wan't an issue of the file being moved, it just vanished. Took it to local Tmobile store where they swapped my Vibrant with a new one. Employee said this has been happening with some frequency, files and apps just get deleted with no explaination. Happy with the new phone, GPS works 100x's better the previous one.

Getting Stupid Now,heres a Video of HD2 running Windows 7 Ultimate

Now We know our HD2 can boot Android,Meego, ubuntu,Windows Mobile 6.5,Windows Phone 7,Windows 95,Windows 98,heres something else we might be able to add to that list,Windows 7 ,You might need an 32gb SD card to do it,and you would probably need to partition it but here it is,on youtube,Then again it could just be remote desk top

The Possibilitys of this device,Really are Endles
Cmon dude seriously? Are you telling me you didnt know that this was obviously only remote desktop??
Also why on earth do you think he disabled comments?
PS. The "Getting Stupid Now" part of your title was obviously referring to yourself then?
Sorry dude, had to get that in
Looks shopped to me. I can tell because of some of the pixels and from having seen quite a few shops in my time...
But seriously...the first video looks halfway real, but the second one(your link)...I dunno...seems WAY too fast to be real. And also, he's got what appears to be 3 different HDD's under My Computer, which could just be partitions, but he also appears to have 2 CD/DVD drives...again which could be virtual drives but still. On an HD2, what would the point of multiple partitions on an SD card be? With 32GB being the limit of MicroSD right now, I just don't see a reason to partition it. He also has comments disabled, which is usually because the video isn't real IMHO.
Not to try to disprove this or anything, all I'm saying is it took months to get XP to even BOOT on the HD2, much less actually be useable.
I agree with the bro above me...I think it's Remote Desktop.
...........fail!
Remote Desktop, for sure. If it was possible to run Windows 7 on HD2, XDA would've had a forum for it, obviously.
fact that he had 500gb of hard drive space didn't give it away?

Agreed. It's just RDP and nothing else.

App starts to load then goes back to home screen

I can't find this anywhere else, so here goes. I downloaded Plants vs Zombies, it worked for a while, then I ran Link2SD and move it. It starts to load, then goes right back to the desktop with no error.
I unlinked it, same issue, completely uninstalled link2sd, put a different SD card in and it does the same thing. this happened with another app, and once I moved it back to internal memory, it worked fine. Not so lucky with PvZ.
I have to assume that there is still something written in a file somewhere that is causing it, just no idea where to look.
I am running Thor 14.2 if that is any help
I also used Switch me, thinking that may help.
Any ideas are appreciated, at this point it is not so much that PvZ doesnt work, though my kids love it, it is that I would like to know why something doesnt work.
i have considered going into CWM and formatting internal memory, but that seems drastic.
Thanks in advance

Only thing i can think of is to look for a folder with the title or Developers name on it . Delete that then reinstall the game. if you are root go to system/apps and look for it there and delete ..
Other then that Post this in the Rom Developer's thread..

I have the SM-T290 Tab S/N R9WM80Q9EVJ
This youtube video I checked out didn''t work ... can't post a link ...
How to transfer apps to SD card
I did what it showed, but I still don't have an option to change or move apps. Any idea what needs to be done to get it to work?
Thank you for reading my post. :good:
Did you ever figure this out? My kids are running out of storage and I don't see any options to move it in the mini videos and websites that I've looked at.

Here to ask the same question. Bought my Tablet with a bundled card thinking I'll put it in and install stuff on there when my kids need to. Can't believe you're locked out of this via software.
