Lollipop Issues - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
After the 5.0 Lollipop update, the heart rate monitor on my S5 will turn the red light on any time that I touch it but only when the screen is on and every time I reboot it, it will say 'Android is Upgrading' but it will only do it for the one app (eg. Optimising app 1 of 1). It's never been rooted or flashed, completely stock in other words. I received the update OTA a couple of days ago. My S5 is running EE firmware (UK) if that helps. I can't find any other people having any issues with it so far. Any help is appreciated!

Google Health causes pulse monitor is constantly on. Try removing if installed.
Do a factory reset if still have problems.

Yeah, it's the Google Fit activity detection. If you disable that and reboot it will switch the heart rate monitor off.
You can see that when you enable activity detection, it requests permission to access the monitor. It would be nice to be able to enable the activity detection but not the HRM though.

I was searching for info about this heart monitor issue. I've uninstalled Google Fit and it seems to have fixed it.
Thanks!
I just need to resolve the battery issue now, it's brutal since the Lollipop update.

Thanks for the help! The heart rate monitor isn't constantly on now! Only other thing is that every time I boot it up it says "Android is Upgrading: Optimising App 1 of 1", I've wiped the cache partition but it didn't do anything.

I have waited for months, there's a solution for fit to work already?

Camera stops working leads to long Awakes = Steep Battery Drains :(

Hello Droid Geeks & Devs, a sincere advice/help needed .. just fed up off two major issues with my N4. Already tried many of the things available on forums but still the problem persists since 3 months now. So it's time I share my saga and possibly get the suggestions/fix or atleast a workaround.
OK, I'll start from the beginning.. I was and still am fully stock on Kitkat 4.4.4 and bootloader locked. I guess it was September during which i
updated my Google camera app from play store. And since this small update my N4 is ruined, my camera stopped working after a few hours ..only solution was to do a reboot & it would work fine for few hours and again "can't connect to camera". I thought a update might fix it but it didn't ..just forgot i had a camera in my phone for few months.
But guess what since October, the camera not working cycle was as it is, but the added problem was sudden infinite awake times in battery stats showing the cause of drastic battery drains (40% drain in nights to wakeup to drained dead phone in morning).again the temp fix was a reboot. But when i closely looked at the trends, I found the relation that while my camera is working the wake-locks are just fine, but the moment the cam stops working the continuous long Awake starts till it eats up all the battery and eventually lead to a reboot to be back to normal.Screenshots attached.
The upcoming Android 5.0 update in Nov was a major hope for me, that this should fix the bug.I happily sideloaded the lollipop update but still no luck ..in fact i have got added lollipop bug of WiFi drops for no reason. Also trying my luck with the new 5.0.1 lets see how it turns out.
Please help me with this issue. Thanks in advance.
Still no luck with 5.0.1
Please Anyone can suggest something ??

Phone keeps shutting down

I have LG Nexus 4 16GB version. And it is shutting down every now and then by itself, specially while using any Google application. (eg: Google Camera, Chrome, )
It just shuts down. And I have to use power button to start it again. (No shut down animation, it just go dead)
The problem starts when I stopped the Google Now. Yes I am sure. Last night I stooped it from settings. And since then phone is shutting down by itself.
So should I again start it. But I don't want it.
Any help...??????
I just saw that Google Camera is doing this. Even on the Play Store the camera is specially updated for for Nexus 4. And last updating it this problem started. Now I can't use camera. Even when I downloaded other camera app from market the phone is still shutting down.
Any help??????
flash new OS image, for example lollipop 5.1.1
Am on the latest version LMY48I and not having any of those issues. You might have a conflict in cache, or your battery could be failing, or may have an errant app or process causing issues. You would probably be well served to run a Logcat of the issue, and see what it is exactly that is causing the issue. That will help you narrow down the root cause, and determine if it is hardware or software.

OP5 Camera not working, constant crashing/rebooting (I have searched threads etc)

Ever since my update to 9.0.5 my camera hasn't been working, as well as phone has been blacking out, system freezing up, the LED Light turning to a sort of baby blue color until I force reboot it (this bug has been with my phone since my first boot upon a full charge from 0% after unpacking it). I have scoured the forums of here at XDA and official One Plus forums. All other people have similar camera bugs but those are features of the camera bugging out and easily fixed with a cache clearing. My issue is with the system itself, and no amount of clean (Very) flashes results in a fix. If I go into recovery, select all partitions and format those, even repeatedly has this annoying system bug persist. The camera does come back if I revert to 8.1 OTA and custom ROMs, but the security patches are too far behind for me to keep using them. I am posting here to find out if anyone has had this issue and successfully fixed it as it has been over 2 months since I received my OP5 but I cannot use it for any intensive task as it worsens the freezeups and reboots. Further I live in a remote Alaskan village and there isn't even a OP Center close to the state to send it in. No amount of stock flashing fixes it at all and I am about to curse Oneplus for not being able to push out a stable device.:crying: :edit: I forgot to add that the gyroscope no longer functions as well. Not even in the factory testing menu by entering *#808# in the dialer with the stock roms.

It's more likely that you have an hardware issue according to your detailed description of the issue. Cause the gyroscope is also needed for proper camera functionality, camera app may crash.

Yeah it is part hardware and part software. A couple of months ago I used the cracked unbrick tool found here at XDA and I regained most functionality which was lost after upgrading from 9.0.4 - 9.0.5, though I do still get system freeze ups and reboots. But that is from a faulty unit not any of the ROMs.
I apologize for reviving an old post so any mods may close this thread.

Help! I've fallen for 10.0 & I can't get up.

*Copied from my post in discussion*
So quick rant. Updated to 10.0 from the zip file posted a couple pages back. I have a standard international model straight from the site, not t-mobile version or anything like that. I've been unrooted since the beginning and still am. I've never touched a beta. My phone is as stock as it can get and not once have I ever had an issue up until this "stable" update. I went from 9.0.17 to 10 (and I really hope it's not just me), and boy does this have issues. If anyone is also experiencing any of these symptoms and has a fix please help.
Issue 1:
I now have this black bar at the bottom of the keyboard that won't go away no matter if I change the height in gboard settings or wipe data and force close and re-update the app even wiping cache in recovery did nothing. I've read other places that this is a thing for Q if you have gestures enabled to give you room at the bottom, but that's seriously BS as if this is the case it should've been an optional setting because now I get screwed up when I type because everything is raised. It's the same on any other keyboard app I've tried.
Issue 2:
Random reboots. This is with no apps open with the phone literally just sitting next to me as I'm doing work. When I'll look at my phone to see ambient it'll just randomly be rebooting. I keep getting them and I have no clue why. Idk if anyone else is experiencing this but sometimes it'll even get stuck in a boot loop and look as if it's bricked then I force restart it using the power and volume keys and it'll boot up for a while until it does that again and I have to keep redoing the process. Again, I tried wiping cache from recovery and I literally went in and force closed every user app I had that wasn't related to the system to no avail.
Issue 3:
Also, there's a brightness and color issue that I'm not quite sure are related but either way they don't work well. If I select the force dark mode in developer settings with enhance video in display settings, or even sometimes one or the other, it'll do either one of two things or both. Either makes every app dark mode and doesn't revert black text to white on apps that are able to support it, and/or it dims videos in landscape mode to lowest brightness no matter if I try to change it, meanwhile the videos are at the proper brightness level in portrait mode.
Issue 4:
Another minor issue is with the fingerprint animation. I've had the McLaren animation from the no-root bypass from another thread somewhere in the phones' forums and when it updated it switched it back to that basic ripple animation. When I try to fix it again and change it as described in the other thread using "setedit" changing the custom fingerprint animation value to 3, it doesn't work and won't set it. It is also noticeably slower from the McLaren animation and it's a small issue but still really annoying.
Issue 5:
Battery life is hit with this update. I usually get around 7hrs~ SOT from the time I wake up to the time I put it back onto the charger with around 15% or so to spare. Last night, I charged it fully and took it off the charger around 2ish and didn't touch it until 8, which is about the same as I normally do daily because I'm a student so I stay up late b/c studying and I don't want to kill the battery overnight so I unplug it right when I sleep and its always at 100% when I unplug. As of right now, its 4:45pm and it's at 32% with 4 hours of SOT from 8-now through minimal, like extremely minimal, use.
I've attached screenshots for most of these issues. I even tried to re-flash the whole update again to overwrite the first attempts', but at this point I just want to go back to 9.0.17 w/o losing data, which is probably a super long shot. I am just super confused as to how this update made it through the stable channel. If you haven't updated, dont.

1. The Keyboard issue is with all Phones on Q. Like how Apple has the space at the bottom of their Keyboard for Gestures. Unfortunately there is no way to get rid of that but of you're using Q Gestures try Hiding the Pill. The option is there in Gestures.
2. Random Reboots. Now these are annoying. Personally, I had been Daily Driving the Beta for a while. Haven't tried Stable Yet but I had no Random Reboots. Updating from Pie to Q can leave many Apps Broken and long story short that's the casue of your Reboots as well as Battery Darin. My advice is to Factory Reset and Download everything from Play Store. And the McLaren Animation is another known issues. Even the McLaren users Don't have it. Could be wrong
Simply backup storage....Format...go back to 9.0.17 and enjoy.
The Keyboard-Extra-Space at the bottom is not an issue. Its a feature of the gBoard. It was introduced to have a better typing position.
Okay so I face the same issues as you do that is issue 2 and issue 5
issue 2 got solved on its own idk how, i just factory resetted once and wiped cache twice and just left it the way it was (it rebooted and stuck on bootloop twice) then it just stopped, its been a whole day since its been fixed.
issue 5 i face the same but idk how to resolve that, probably with a new update where they fix all these issues if reported by oneplus members

It's not just for gboard. I use swiftkey and still had that space, which annoys me for some unknown reason. I wasn't able to completely get rid of it, but reduced it by using Navigation Gestures,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar
I only enabled the "Hide Navigation Bar" option and it shrunk it down a bit. Still noticeable, but less annoying now.

When I back up with OnePlus Switch then factory reset then restore the backup with OnePlus Switch, will the same issues be there again or will it probably solve the problem? I have poor battery life as well after updating...

Just Google back up...( Accounts , passwords, contacts, etc)

Really really dumb question, but if I factory reset the device is going to cause a problem for twrp or magisk? I'm thinking I would just have to reinstall magisk manager and modules correct? Twrp and magisk themselves would still be intact?

After factory reset you'll loose twrp & magisk....
The best you can do is , reinstall the stable 10 through local upgrade, boot to OS ( now you have stock recovery & unrooted) boot to stock recovery and wipe data
Boot to fresh android 10 system....
Now to root the device, boot on fastboot and flash the magisk patched img ...
Reboot ..install magisk manager and install magisk from there ( choose direct install)
Forget the twrp ... doesn't work properly atm ( decryption issues) ..
I see a lot of users updating from pie to Q without wiping data and then are reporting issues ( not working sensors, lags , hiccups, increased battery life, etc)
Go and make a clean install and enjoy android 10...

I've been waiting for MONTHS to get that space at the bottom in Q and I hope that OnePlus won't remove that feature just to humour some people who don't know sh* about UX. My finger hurts and almost slipped my phone many times when I was trying to reach the spacebar prior to Q

Since Android 11 some apps stopped working in background

Hello,
Every time i am driving my car i am using Blitzer for speed cameras and Amigo for warnings on the speed limit. Since i updated the S10+ with Android 11 i have noticed that as soon the display goes dark, both apps stop working. With this, i mean they both lose GPS connection so i do not receive any warning. Did not have any problem before the update, now i do not know what to do. I've tried everything. They are both NOT battery optimized, with all permissions granted, an still nothing works. What is worse is that even the GPS connection is not so stable as before. It takes a lot more time to get a GPS signal although i did not change any setting.
Does anyone had the same problems?
Thanks in advance!
Later edit
So, for those interested, i have solved the problem for both apps.
For Amigo (by TomTom) the solution i have found it was switching the Location permission from "Only when it's in use" to app to "Always". It started working again in the background.
For Blitzer.de i have the solution by accident. The culprit was a Bixby routine that was suppose to start the app as soon as it was connecting to my car's bluetooth.
As soon as i started the app manually everything started to work again in the background.
I would like to point out again that both apps were working just fine until i have updated to Android 11.
Hope that my findings will help also someone else having similar problems.
Happy Easter !
