I'm not trying to sound stupid but is there not a way to "up" the camera on the Atrix to an 8MP or so? The reason I even asked is that I am just joining you "elite" group of Atrix owners by stepping up from an XT711. Now before I get too flamed, the XT is really a great handset, or could have been if it hadn't been abandoned by Motorola. I have an XT711 with a xenon flash and 8mp camera that takes OUTSTANDING photos and beautiful HD video, I also bought my wife its little brother, the XT701 that has a 5mp camera. After doing alot of searching, I found a Chinese web site that had a flash file that I used to flash her phone and change her camera to 8mp also, and it worked beautifully! Her camera went from good pictures to great pictures and it was just a simple flash file. Now that my wife and I are both upgrading to the Atrix because of no future support, I am just wondering if this method could be used for the Atrix as well or if anyone has thought about or tried it. I dont know how they changed it in the file, and if I wasn't such a rookie, I would look in it and see cause I still have the zip file, but I wouldn't even know what I was looking at if I opened it. I am sure the camera should be similar to the "X" phone with its 8mp, and from the looks of it, it might actually be the same camera as the newly China released XT882, which is almost the same as the Atrix (actually maybe better with its dual sims) but its camera is sitting at 8mp, not 5mp. Well since I am just a noob, I figured I would at least ask if it had been thought of or tried because I know from my XT phones that those 3 little megapixels can make a very nice difference in your pictures and alot of people including myself would love to have it. Why couldn't it work if the camera was capable? Just curious and hopeful. Thanks in advance!
I can tell you that the difference between 5MP and 8MP is not important, especially on a camera phone that is not designed to print large resolution images in the first place.
You can't increase the megapixels by flashing software onto a phone. Most likely the update adjusted the white balance, aperture, focus, and color contrasts to make the image more appealing. The iPhone has already proven that a lower MP camera can easily beat-out a higher MP if the software and lens is good enough.
I don't know of any current projects related to the Atrix 4G camera software. However, there many camera apps that offer filters and other software related changes to your photos. I suggest checking all of the modes the Atrix 4G offers and then see if any of the 3rd party apps add additional features.
Are you sure that the software cannot be limiting the camera to 5mp? I only ask because I don't know, not because I don't believe. I just read the site where the XT701 upgrade is and it says the software is limiting the camera. I just thought possibly the Atrix could be as well. Here is the translated page:
http://translate.google.com/transla...0/08/08/update_xt701_carema_to_8mpix/&act=url
Well it was at least worth asking. Hopefully with the new GB update coming up, the camera will become more like what I am used to. Thanks!
Hi guys,
bought a i9500 china version here in shanghai 2 days ago and the back camera has issues. Auto focusing is pretty much non existent in indoor situations, and even when I do tap to focus multiple times to get it right, the picture turns out like it has a radial blur filter on it where the tapped area would be somewhat in focus while the rest of the image would get a gradient blur as it spreads from the focus point. Macro shots seem to be ok and doesn't have this gradient blur.
Stock chinese firmware brand new phone. Rooted and unrooted has the same issue. Anyone else experiencing this? is this firmware problem or hardware defect? Does the S4 just have a ****ty camera? Pretty disapointing for a $600+ phone...

how do i update the camera firmware? i have the latest phone firmware
Hello,
since there are problems with the camera software, I am opening this thread to discuss your experiences and software update news.
I got my S20U Exynos variant today and straight out of the box there was an OTA (430MB) available which stated that the camera experience has been improved. It got better because I have tested it before the update but the autofocus is still "jumpy" and has problems with objects that are near to the phone. Even if i turn on the setting to adapt autofocus to the selected object in the viewer, it still jumps
EDIT: I did some tests today with my own face using the main sensor and the oversharpening / skin smoothing is gone. I tested it with HDR turned off and on.
EDIT 23.03.2020:
Look at this video guys. Focus hunting is gone. Sorry, I have orange blinds and the sun was shining directly on those.

Did the update bring any changes to the over sharpening / skin smoothing with the man lens?

I have just tested it with my own face at work in bureau using the main sensor and the oversharpening / skin smoothing is gone. I tested it with HDR turned off and on.
Plz keep us updated on the auto focus issue

I just did a little research and it should be the ATC2, right? The one that we all have also fixed the face photos with main camera.

Yes, that one. Hopefully it comes before my return period. If not, I'm sending it back.
ATC2 is already out in South Korea. Should be in the US in a few days or about a week the most

Lets hope so!!
As has been stated, ATBM is the one that everyone already has and it definitely did nothing for the camera.
Specific to the S20 Ultra, what about subjects' edge blurriness issue due to narrow Plane of Focus? - it can only minimally get resolved or may not at all..?
For reference, attaching pics taken from YT:
MKBHD(at 9:31) and Danny Winget(at 1:41). Marques explained it pretty well on why it might not!
Edit: S20 Ultra users with the OTA updates( "ATBR" & "ATC2") installed can check and report..
so in Germany i got a Day1 update but it seems to be only the March security patch. the update was a Little less than 500mb.
the autofocus is kinda slow in compare to the s10+
and the autofocus has some Trouble tu Focus with zoom 5+ and distance lower than 5 meters
update:
in the patchnotes
- better cam perf.
- enhanced security 4 the device
Version G99BXXU1ATBM
431.19 MB
so hopefully there will be another update to improve the cam

I think that this update fixed the problems with the main camera when capturing photos with a recognizable face. I have tested it yesterday and it does not change the colour of my face or make it smoother.

I have already read some feedback from gsmarena who stated: According to TizenHelp, users are reporting improved function of both autofocus and manual focusing on the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
- It is nice to hear that but we need to wait for some comparisons or a wider update push. I have also watched how Marques explained the narrow point of focus on the Ultra and he might be right but that hardware masterpiece has other sensors to help the main one with information so maybe it can be fixed with software update. I have already asked German Samsung support about when the update is going to roll out because the camera is almost useless and that I am very disappointed about it. Of course I also wrote that if it does not happen before the return window closes, they will get that hardware back, simple.
EDIT: They just answered that they do not know when the update is going to roll out. They also did not respond to me being disappointed so I asked for Tier 2 Support or Customer Relations response.
EDIT2: This was already a Tier 2 answer and they do not know on their own when it is going to arrive because it is being rolled out without properly informing all Samsung Sites.

Autofocus/manual focusing improved, but I think let's not mix it up with the Plane of Focus limitation i.e. after the object is in focus, clicked, the pic is sharp on few places but blurry elsewhere on the same object.
As for Samsung support(customer support?) about Samsung, I will rather ask my Pets about it..

I know that support from such big companies is mostly not helpful but if they throw a voucher for something, then there is at least something useful you get if they cannot help. As I have written before, the other lenses could help with the Plane of Focus. Maybe Samsung will figure it out. Samsung integrated Google Duo so let Google guys improve the camera software :silly:
They're not going to be able to fix the narrow focus depth of close up images. Have you ever noticed that "fast" zoom lenses with constant aperture for cameras are invariably heavy and expensive? That's because they cram in several aspherical lens in there to be able to maintain the wide aperture. But on a camera lens, you can adjust the aperture if you want to increase the focus plane. The Ultra has a variable zoom with fixed aperture, so it's a trade off. They may be able to improve the focus hunting issues but I doubt it will ever match the speed and precision of the dpaf of their cheaper siblings.
For this reason I changed my pre-order at the last minute to the s20 plus. My subjects are typically closer range shots that are moving (my kids), so auto focus performance is important.

That's an artifact of the sensor size, the only way to fix it would be artifical sharpening or taking multiple photos and combining them.

That!
It's a feature, not a bug.
The culprit is fixed aperture.
Well about a year ago I been abroad for few months working in the USA (I'm from Europe). I found on ebay a good deal for a new S10+ USA version unlocked (G975U1) so I bought it.
Now: this S10+ camera never impressed me to be honest. I don't know why if that's because the s10+ camera isn't actually THAT good (even tho in reviews everybody said that it was great etc) or if it is just a problem with my device, since I did not have the chance to confront my S10+ with another one so I don't know if the problem is just my phone or just S10+ camera being kinda crappy.
Now since I'm getting tired of having a ~1k phone with a camera that can be easily beat by a much lower price range phone and I also feel like software updates have worsened the camera's performance (I remember it used to be better before than it is now) I'm trying to install a GCam port and compare it with stock camera to see if there is any noticeable difference. The problem is that I cannot find any working gcam port for SM-G975U1, all of them crash at start. I've managed to get only 1 app to work but it was so unstable that in the end I just deleted it.
Anyone wishing to help me out? thx
Can you post some photos just to understand better?
out of focus? give it a tap once in awhile,Digital aperture camera sometime it got stuck.
Hello everyone,
Anyone else got some issues with picture quality from camera... it is kind of worse then it was before? And I have a feeling it is going worse from update to update.
Video is fine, which is strange, but pictures are way worse, especially at mid light.. I've read on forums that Samsung is intentionally degrading quality of camera so they force us to buy new phone..
I wanna know if this issue is able to be fixed or not? I did camera reset, cleared cash from camera and boot loader, but the "problem" is still here..
Just curious, are your mid light shots at f2.4? Some shots i take at train station underground, was something like f2.4 ISO640 lmao. Instead of using f1.5 and lower iso. that might be your problem. Dont think there is a fix for this other than going pro where HDR doesnt work.. but other than that i really like the camera.
