Has anyone here gotten this soak test e-mail? I am signed up for the Motorola Feedback Network but I have not received a soak test invite yet myself.

From the soak test I have seen done in the past they send out them to people who confirmed their IEMI. Which I may be wrong about this is set for each phone individually. Meaning that soak test update only works for that said IEMI. I could be wrong. Just a guess.

I'm not sure what to make of you, yet.
You're rude, ***** at people, act like a knowitall, with a '14 join date, and almost 800 posts in less than 6 months.
Maybe it's the Droid Turbo forum, but I've not seen members of this community be as rude to people as you are. You're like an angry little troll.
Lighten up, breh. Post less. Be more informative. Be more helpful. I think the only reason I still give you any credit is that you must've done something nice once or twice to get your thanks meter up.
I haven't received an e-mail. Oh well. Not sure if anything has changed but I don't remember anyone having issues sideloading soak test updates when I had my Droid 4.

The imei helps them send out the update only to that particular phone... If you can get your hands on the OTA file... Which will need root, anyone can install it!

No root needed if a signed OTA file.
Not to install, but I think he's right, you need root to grab the OTA file out of the cache partition.

Grabbing from cache is unnecessary. Logcat the url. I did it last time.

We'd be so lucky to be the last to be pushed gingerbread after jha said we'd be among the first.
So does this mean the rest of us will get an update soon? I sure hope so..

Yes it means the real thing is coming in about a fortnight (according to what I've read, pls feel free to correct) after the SOAK testing starts
for those of us already unlocked and running a version of 4.5.91, is it even worth the hassle of trying to sign up for the soak, and get our phones ready? (if even possible with the possible brick above our heads)
or just stay with what we got and continue riding the wave? lol
I'm not signing up for this soak. Figure after all the hard bricks and such its probably not a smart idea to try the ota over an unlocked bl/ken's gb.
Been waiting for the official release, thanks for the update.

In the survey you completed previous to this one you agreed to keep all communications confidential. If you selected "no" to that question you would never have received this new notification.
It says keep private but it also says to share this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BG8FYV5

Motorola just sent me an email asking to participate in a soak test on 4G.
I no longer have my 4G having switched to ATRIX 2 but thought someone would be interested to know there is an update coming. Hopefully ICS for which I unsuccessfully waited so long as well...
What???? Maybe yiu can say YES! And see what they want... but I think its a mistake.
I hope to be wrong.

huh? wtf? is this real?
edit: can you pls copy & paste the email contents?
There are already 3 other threads about this in the general section, along with a copy of the e-mail contents.

No mistake but I can't participate since they want the imei of the phone I don't have. I am letting you know cause I really appreciate ATRIX 4G community on xda.
If the bill or other us developers (I don't think they will allow a participant from abroad) wants to take my place - PM me.
I believe every email link they sent is unique and allows just one participant.
for real?? u gotta b kidding me.
Moved to General, and closing. There are already threads with this same information
Yes it's for real! They want to SOAK Test! Most probably it's going to be 2.3.7! Maybe some minor battery fix, wifi improvements. So pretty sure it's not ICS. Anyways, good to SOAK test. I've applied to SOAK test. I hope they'll roll out the update soon.

Doesn't matter for me, I'm too reliant on Xposed and I'll have to wait for that to update first.

To be eligible for a soak test, you must sign up to be part of the Motorola Feedback Network (MFN). Motorola picks from a pool of registered users and sends the soak test update to their devices. Click here for details.

The moto voice app can give us these options before lollipop, at least that is what I am hoping for.
Do you guys think the lollipop update will help the chance of a root method being found? When the update comes out should I do it right then and there or wait to see if lollipop will completely ruin any chance
There was an article from ChainsDD saying that if anything lollipop is more locked down. My bet is, if their going to get root it's going to be on KitKat.

Wouldn't we have root by now then? I only say because KitKat doesn't seem that hard to root even though it varies depending on OEM. I would think since lollipop for the Droid Turbo isn't too far off (we hope) Then devs would just wait til then for root because most people will take the lollipop update. At least that's how it looks to me and this is my opinion
I'm pretty sure Lollipop will come with root.

To sum up what I think he means is he believes that root will be obtained in lollipop for the Droid Turbo ( Again just guessing)
I think reduces chances of root
I say helps. Because pretty soon all current moto phones will be on lollipop anyways

I'm by no means a techie-guy, but I really miss root, so I can run Titanium Backup and have the free hot-spot.

My opinion is that Kit Kat doesn't have root NOT because its impossible but because the lack of interest from the people that find these exploits, perhaps its just a matter of time before one of these guys gets a Turbo and works on it or so we hope.
Finding these exploits is not easy an requires insane amounts of personal time and resources, often with little reward. I understand that there's a bounty on this site but this site is just a star in a galaxy. Sometimes these exploits are found by Asian hackers not Americans therefore the audience is very limited on a Verizon exclusive device like our Turbo.
I do however believe, and this is just my opinion and perhaps wishful thinking, that Lollipop will shine a spotlight on this device and people will notice it even more and perhaps attract some of these guys willing to spend hours after hours finding that one vulnerability in that one line code where they can inject their own code to achieve root. Good luck to us!
m4rk0358 said:

I bet the differ. No phone would come out with an update with root included. An exploit needs to be found. Even chainfire states that root access is going to be harder with lollipop. I dont think we will be seeing root anytime soon. Atleast for a year.
I hope he didn't actually mean the update would be rooted already.

No, there are a limited number of participants. I registered but did not receive an update yet and it MAY be only for the Edge right now. Going to keep checking but the ones I see updating are edges. You know if you were accepted if you can manually run the update from the phone.
I didn't register in time, and I would love to benefit from this. It's not posted here yet, but for what it's worth, I'm waiting for it to be posted here: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-galaxy-s7-firmware/
