Hi,
I've a new Note 4 (stock unrooted, as it is)
I've noticed, at times, the camera is out of focus (all blurry) with no 'modes' loaded. The only thing that can be taken in such situation is something very close to the lens.
I just close all apps and try to relaunch camera; and most of the times it starts working with all 'modes' loaded.
Is this a known issue, or problem with camera settings or is my hardware piece at fault ?
TIA

Try jarring the top of the phone when it is out of focus. If that corrects it, hardware problem.

Thank you for the right direction Josborne6. Jarring does correct it. Follow up question: the blurry load does not happen always, is there a way to recreate it when i go to the store ?
Just keep trying. That's what I did. Mine did it mostly after closing camera app then restarting it. If the app was allowed to stay open it would work once it focused the first time.

Awesome! Glad they took care of it. Enjoy, the camera is one of the best attributes of the phone.

ok i had my X8 about a month ago and since then i tried every ROM that's out there literally. Recently i settled to froyobread for about 10 days and now floyo 0.25
my problem in both is the cam after taking a few shots, the camera screen black out or the cam button dies on me and i really hate it
i take a lot of pictures and i just hate it when the prefect shot gets lost because of a stupid glitch. i can give away EdgeGlow if there is a ROM that has a fully working cam with no bugs.
the reason for the thread is to ask u X8 users instead of going all over the ROMs again ( i still have them all ) to see the stable cam, Could anyone tell me what's the best ROM to take pictures with?? and please don't tell me to go back to Eclair (2.1)
thank u all

like i said i tried all the ROMs but then i wasn't testing all the things but i remember ditching minicm because the power gadget looked like it lacked some colors or scaled up. i guess it's because of the screen size difference between X8 and X10 mini. however i remember the beautiful animations especially for boxes popping up.
just plz confirm that i can take like 10 shots in succession (say with 1 sec delay) without the cam bugging on me
Forget the stock camera apps and use Camera Illusion.
It´s better, doesn´t have errors and has great effects, like negative and that stuff.
I do experienced the same thing..
try other alternative. I'm using Camera Advance Lite, it works perfect.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mnapps.cameraadvancelite
This is the same thing which happens with me. I tried using alternative camera apps like vignette but still the same problem.
After some shots, the camera just blacks out and you cannot take any pics after that until a reboot is made.

if it's camera library problem, anyone able to figure out what's wrong?
When taking pictures in low light situations with flash (it seems low battery enhances the probability) sometimes the pictures get artifacts (white lines close to the top/bottom of the picture).
And sometimes the phone gets stuck and reboots. The camera tends to make clicking noises right before it reboots that are louder than when usually focusing.
Look at the screenshot and at the end you can see the reboot. You can see a sudden battery level drop after the reboot.
I don't know if this is hardware or software related but a user suggested this to be a problem with the stock camera app.
I had this problem on two devices already and it seems to be on all devices, maybe just rarer for some people? Not sure.
If you have this problem vote for the following issue and hope google fixes it:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=49702&#makechanges
I had something similar happen to me once last week. I was viewing my photos in the stratosphere mode and would hit the back button. I had to repeatedly do this to scroll to the next images after viewing them. When hitting the back button it would take me back to take a picture, but one time, it took me to a blank screen with the camera buttons still working. I ended up needing to restart my phone. Not sure what happened there.
I have only seen this once. It didn't occur again, so I haven't chased it down
Ditto only happened once in the first week of using and has never happened again

Kinda sucks when it happens randomly, today it happened twice to me and that in 4.2.2!

I also have it, but less frequent, about one or two times per month. It happened on 4.2.1 and no one could solve it in my thread about this .
Facing the same issue more frequently

The device was a little hot but not as hot as when in gaming and in gaming it never reboots.
Look at the screen shot and at the end you can see the reboot. What I'm worried about is the sudden battery level drop after the reboot.
Are these reboots hardware or software related? Should I get a replacement?

I seem to have the same issue. So far, it has only occurred when I am trying to take a photo with the flash on. One more observation: seems to happen more often if the battery is low. However, both of us might be having defective devices, as it doesn't seem to be a common issue looking the forums here.
No solution found so far. Tried a factory reset. Tried using another camera app. Nothing helped. Might try flashing a custom ROM.

All oft the things you described apply to my situation too. Also I noticed that pictures tend to have artifacts (white stripes close to the top/bottom). They always have the same distance from top/bottom but their length differs.
Also after the forced reboot there sometimes appears an extra picture in the gallery that is fully grey.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I don't seem to have the artifact problem that you described. Also there is a creaking sound sometimes just before it restarts.
Have you tried flashing a custom ROM? Did it help? Otherwise RMA is possibly the way to go.
I ordered the phone from US using a mail forwarding service, so an rma will cost me another $100 or so. If you or anyone else can confirm that it is definitely a hardware issue which can be resolved by getting a replacement, i might go for it.

I was on AOKP PUB Krait 05/02 by Stevespear and Harsh Kernel and I did have a reboot there once too. Also this is already my third Nexus 4 since I had to replace it 2 times due to issues (bottom side creaking 1st device / yellow blotches 2nd device) and this one really looks good only this camera reboot issue is left.
But my first phone did have the issue too, I didn't have the 2nd phone long enough so didn't see it happen there. I have no idea if it is a hardware or software issue but my bet is that all Nexus 4's have that issue.
It just seems that it appears rather rarely and most people don't notice it. Or it could be that the voltage is too low and that would explain why it happens on some phones more than on others since not all chips are equal. I was wondering if somehow setting the flash to be weaker so it draws less power would solve this. But I am just a user and don't really have an idea.
PS: I won't get my phone replaced since I can live with this issue (it happens rather rarely) and I went through 2 replacements to get this device which is close to perfect but I wouldn't mind if someone came up with a solution.
That makes me feel really lucky to have gotten a nearly perfect device. Anyway, guess we just have to live with it then. Lowering the flash intensity sounds like a good idea. Will check if some rom/kernel/app can do it for me.

Having the same problem here on 4.2.1 and 4.2.2. I think it might be the buggy stock camera/gallery app because I can't replicate the problem on the Camera Zoom FX app.
Edit: I remember having this problem on 4.2.1 and then clearing the gallery app data and not ever seeing the issue happen again. I will try the same on 4.2.2 and see if it fixes it too.
I added a link to the issue on OP guess that is all I can do.

I have had this issue with the Camera FX Zoom app also. So, at least in my case, I guess it's a hardware/camera driver issue. Anyway, I also cleared the gallery app data a few days back and haven't faced this issue since then, but haven't taken enough pics with flash to confirm that the issue is truly gone.

Has the issue disappeared after clearing the app data for you? I certainly have not faced any reboots since doing it.
Okay so my camera does this in lowlight and yes when I take a photo the lines will stay... what is wrong?
Bump. It is sad that this is the 4th time I post in this section and get 0 replies.
Anyways I discovered that when I go lower the megapixels to 12MP or anything else NON WIDE the lines disappears, but whenever I choose a wide mode MP the lines appear.
Edit: 5 days ago I didn't have this kind of problem at all. Please help.

no sir its one of the problems with this phone, some other folks have reported the exact same issue i believe its a hardware issue with note 4's camera sensor. Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/camera-shooting-lowlight-t3244104
i am afraid there is no way around it it was bothering me so i got rid of it (the next one was restarting randomly...and the next one had a broken gps....lol) samsung does not believe in quality i doubt if they even have a quality control department.
I'm having the same problem as yours
I went to samsung and they tried replacing the camera module but the problem remained, they said that I'm having a custom rom and it corrupted the "IC" of the camera, so it's a software problem as they say.
Is your phone rooted or running any no official rom?
See if you can update your camera firmware by going into the dialer and type *#34971539#
This is mine.
Edit:Update?? How?
I don't know if this has been posted already, but i have this pretty big issue with my phone. The thing is, in the stock camera app i can't really focus on objects closer than 6-7inches, while on other not strictly camera apps (for example Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp Camera) i can focus really really close, like 2-3 inches away. Is there any way to fix that?

Hi guys,
My camera has some pink spots.
The spots seem to be in a fixed position, when I zoom in, they move and become bigger as if they would be on the lens.
I have had this issue for over a month now, but I can't seem to find a fix.
My apologies for not having done extensive research, I'm very busy with my exams (next week).
I'd like to know what is wrong and whether it'll fall under warranty.
Thanks in advance!

A few months ago many people had this problem, though only the one's having the Samsung camera sensor.
But this issue was fixed by Samsung with a FW update a few months ago...
See: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/camera-problem-pink-purple-spots-s7-t3414431
You're FW is up to date and everything??
The problem is most likely software. Try to install another program for the camera, and take a photo with the new program, most likely there will be no heels

So it can still be problemma in the broken pixels on the matrix. It seems to me necessary to carry a device to the service center and then everything will become clear
i think your camera sensor has been damaged. have you ever playing with laser before? i heard thats harmful for camera sensor
