Alright so recently out of the blues whenever I go on Google Maps or browse the internet on the S4. It turns off by itself, I try it again and it does it again. Not sure exactly why but I'm looking for an explanation of some sort, or if some one else is facing the same issue. It would be kindly appreciated if any one could enlighten me to as what I should do to solve such an issue.
Thanks for taking the time
does this only happen with certain apps or will it shut down by doing anything within the phone?

Try rooting, installing Xposed, installing Wanam, enabling it in Xposed, reboot, and look for the option about SystemServer Crash and try enabling it.

You should provide more details like firmware version, the physical state of your phone at least, before asking such questions. The issue can be of software or hardware nature but you didn't provided any useful information ...
Out of curiosity, just turn off GPS and try to reproduce the issue. If you don't want to root and use the tools to trace the logs, the process of elimination is the only way to narrow the issue down.
Fixed the issue.
Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to reply, it seems I have found what caused this issue. It was actually my battery, one of the gold plates within it needed to be properly cleaned, in which I did and everything went back to normal. I thought maybe perhaps it had something to do with the custom ROM itself.
Thanks for taking the time guys, really means a lot XDA community has always been amazing!

Firstly congrats. If you're seeing this post, you might have already done so or are trying to flash some custom ROM, which is absolutely ok.
Rather its fun and satisfaction that you keep your device up to date if not possible through official means. Also for some good changes.
Unfortunately, its not completely flawless. There might be some issues which are covered in the further updates of the ROMs.
Among oother small problems, one major problem I faceed when I flashed a custom ROM (actually three) is that the Android Market failed miserably when I initiated it. There were horrible search results. Also the categories were not showing the apps which would otherwise be placed under them.
Fortunately, the Android Market site was open for me which was the last option for me to go on with.
The only solution I could find to this problem was a bit of patience and some really basic info about market.
I tried to re install all the applications that were previously being shown as installed already. Though they showwed "Installed" status but you can install them again.
After a lapse of almost three days, I tried to access the Market app and it was actually accessible with all the search functionalities and EVERYTHING running smooth.
A thing I would like to advise on is try not to wipe out all the data (the 4 wipe out options while flashing) from your device. It might, might help you not to lose data and possibly, the Android Market too.
Have fun.
I've been on a custom rom for greater than a month now and have not experienced any market issues. The only problem that I've ever had was wifi stopped connecting for me. But it was an easy fix. Sorry you've had problems... Perhaps something else is to blame?

Please let me know how did you fixed this issue?
I really need to know because i have the same issue.
I was just curious to see if anyone else was having this problem. I have searched and found no threads that were describing exactly what was happening to me. My signal just drops out completely and doesn't come back for a full 5 minutes sometimes. I'm pretty sure it's not the root doing it either, because it was happening before I rooted it. I figured the root would solve it, but it hasn't. If anyone has any ideas, please share. I'm going to try a different radio right now and I'll share with you the results, but ideas are still appreciated.

Definitely your radio. Flash the latest radio and see if that improves it.

I tried a new radio yesterday, for pretty much all day. It didn't solve the problem, but I'm going to try all the radios I can. If anybody else has another suggestion besides radios let me know please.
Okay, sorry it took me so long to respond. I have tried almost all the radios and none of them have solved this problem. I know it's not a T-mobile issue either because I get great service at my house with every other phone except this one. It's looking like a hardware issue, but I was wondering if anybody had any input on it.

I would send it back to tmobile, tell them about it and send her back, you might want to remove soff though
Its not new and I didn't buy it from T-mobile. I guess I can try sending it back to HTC though. I did call them and see if it was still under the 1 year. Thankfully the previous owner didn't register it. It's now registered under my name and I have a backup phone, so I guess I will do that. The charger port is loose and needs to be fixed anyway. Thank you everyone for your input.
Greetings everyone,
I am new to the XDA forums so first of all, I'd like to greet you all and send you all my gratitude for the helpful posts which had helped many times in the past.
Anyway, let me get to the point. As most of you already know, Android phones have WiFi issues and there are a lot of posts about them with little information that might be regarded as "fix".
My phone model is Xperia Ray (ST18i) and I've had an issue with the WiFi and it's the only problem I've ever had with this phone. The WiFi disconnects when I am attempting to download large data but after it disconnects, it almost instantly comes back on again but by then the transfer is already failed so most of the time, the process has to be repeated but the transfers are never completed successfully as a result. I tried many things, such as using static ip, proxy and different ROM's and kernels, but nothing worked and the problem persisted, even more often than ever before sometimes. I tried many other things but you get the idea... nothing ever worked.
I am starting to acknowledge that MAYBE my phone has a hardware problem so if that might be the case, is there anything I can do to repair or replace the faulty part myself? Is that even possible? I like my phone so I really want to fix this problem. I have been trying to fix this for a long time now and I really don't want to give up but repair it.
I would appreciate your thoughts, opinions and suggestions. Thank you in advance.
Kind Regards.
Hey everyone -
I originally posted about this in the Extreme Syndicate thread, but wanted to also ask here. I'm not sure if this is an issue wit my phone, the ROM, or the S5 in general. I'm on Extreme Syndicate L v2, and did a clean flash of it yesterday.
This morning, I noticed that placing the phone on it's back on a white surface while the screen is on caused a red light to appear. I think it's the heart rate sensor, but I'm not sure.
Is anyone else experiencing this? And could whatever-sensor-this-is-that-is-apparently-always-going be causing some people's battery drain on Lollipop?
Here's a short video.

Please post below whether or not you have this issue and which ROM you are on. Thanks!!

This is not very wide spread from what i know, its not related to the ROM, i was stock unrooted android. Its an error in the Update process. Verizon is unable to fix it besides a wipe to the phone, Just factory reset the Phone and the red light will stop. Sorry I cant explain any more.

Are you saying you experienced this problem and have fixed it with a factory reset? Since I just wiped and re-set everything yesterday, I'd really only want to go this route if it's a proven fix... Thanks!

OK, I think I have it narrowed down to Google Fit. I went into the app's settings and told it to not monitor my activity. After a reset of the phone, the light isn't turning back on. I'm going to monitor it for the next hour or so to confirm that it's really off for good.
EDIT - The light is still staying off, so Google Fit appears to have been the culprit!

This Would make sense since when i would run S-health it would be off for as much as a day before returning. Google fit is a good idea, if that solves it try uninstalling the app and re installing I'm interested in know why a reset of my phone solved this.
Just as a quick heads up to anyone still watching this form, the red light error with google fit has been repaired. You can now use google fit properly and you will not get the heart rate monitor always being active.
Hi xda, something very strange just happened with my phone. I was using google to help with some homework when all of sudden the screen went black. I thought my phone died so i freaked out and tryied to power it on and the only way to fix it was to plug it in to the charge. Is this something to worry about or I'm I just freaking out?
Thanks in advance!

This is a common bug with Magisk: sometimes, Google app crash without an apparent motivation, especially if you are using either Xposed Framework. On my old Zenfone, it used to happen every time I tried to open Google.
My advice is to avoid using either Magisk and Xposed,
Hope it helps!
