I am new to the XDA forums so first of all, I'd like to greet you all and send you all my gratitude for the helpful posts which had helped many times in the past.
Anyway, let me get to the point. As most of you already know, Android phones have WiFi issues and there are a lot of posts about them with little information that might be regarded as "fix".
My phone model is Xperia Ray (ST18i) and I've had an issue with the WiFi and it's the only problem I've ever had with this phone. The WiFi disconnects when I am attempting to download large data but after it disconnects, it almost instantly comes back on again but by then the transfer is already failed so most of the time, the process has to be repeated but the transfers are never completed successfully as a result. I tried many things, such as using static ip, proxy and different ROM's and kernels, but nothing worked and the problem persisted, even more often than ever before sometimes. I tried many other things but you get the idea... nothing ever worked.
I am starting to acknowledge that MAYBE my phone has a hardware problem so if that might be the case, is there anything I can do to repair or replace the faulty part myself? Is that even possible? I like my phone so I really want to fix this problem. I have been trying to fix this for a long time now and I really don't want to give up but repair it.
I would appreciate your thoughts, opinions and suggestions. Thank you in advance.

I have searched on the forums for a bit of advice on this issue, and it seems to be a WM6 problem (some comments on other xda-dev device-specific forums but none i could find on the shift).
Every so often, my shift decides not to recognise my password, and therefore i need a hard reset. Not good after i spent all the time liberating it! This has happened twice now.
On xda-dev forums for other devices, they suggest you hold the 'on-off button' for 10 seconds after setting the p/w the first time, which will work around the problem. Unfortunately, the shift doesn't have such a button for the snapvue bit.
This seems to be a WM6 issue, which is made worse for the shift given the above issues (losing liberation, no on-off workaround).
Does anyone encounter this on their shift as well? I am surprised not to see it on the forum, so i hope i didn't miss anything. By the way, the solution 'don't use password' is no good for me, since to sync with my work server i must use one - and it comes on every 15 mins maximum without use!
I am intrigued also because i have a new HTC touch dual, and this p/w problem does not happen at all?

sorry to bump this up, but I am just wondering whether the lack of replies since I posted this the night before I went on a job for a week is because of:
a) i am the only one who experiences this and thus noone knows how to fix it
b) anyone who does know has already posted to another thread i cant find?

Just an odd thought, are you using a long password? WinMo really only likes a 4 digit numerical PIN for password as it is a system originally designed for PDA's and enhanced for mobile phone use. Hence unlock via keypad.

Interesting, it seems to have stopped since i wrote the first post, have taken it away on 2 major work trips and it's all good. However, i have not liberated it again yet. I think i am going to re-liberate it and see whether the issue happens again.
There are definitely postings on some of the other forums here on xda-dev, so it is a known issue, but maybe i am just unlucky....

Hey there, I was going through the old posts and saw a reference to a registry fix for the wizard dropping signal and taking forever to reaquire it even in places that the signal is excellent. The person left a link to the fix but when I go the site is down. Is there anyone here that knows what this registry fix is, and how I can go about implementing it? This would be my first experience with playing with the registry on my phone, but I"m pretty versed in messing with the registry on the desktop. This has been something that has bothered me since the day I got the phone and T-mobile doesn't even recognize it as a problem. Specifically this person's response: While my first instinct is to convince you to sell me your otherwise functioning phone on the cheap, I must resort to being the good guy (or else get spanked by the mods...)
There is a registry fix for the kind of signal dropping you're describing. I'm surprised you went for so long without experiencing the problem. I did almost right away when I got mine last year. You should try it first, if you haven't already...

It may not be addressing the exact problem you're having, but then again, it might...
Obviously, if you've upgraded your phone to WM 6.x, you need to take this problem up with the one who created that ROM, and hope they feel like supporting you. That's the fun of using home-cooked ROMs.

I was just curious to see if anyone else was having this problem. I have searched and found no threads that were describing exactly what was happening to me. My signal just drops out completely and doesn't come back for a full 5 minutes sometimes. I'm pretty sure it's not the root doing it either, because it was happening before I rooted it. I figured the root would solve it, but it hasn't. If anyone has any ideas, please share. I'm going to try a different radio right now and I'll share with you the results, but ideas are still appreciated.

Definitely your radio. Flash the latest radio and see if that improves it.

I tried a new radio yesterday, for pretty much all day. It didn't solve the problem, but I'm going to try all the radios I can. If anybody else has another suggestion besides radios let me know please.
Okay, sorry it took me so long to respond. I have tried almost all the radios and none of them have solved this problem. I know it's not a T-mobile issue either because I get great service at my house with every other phone except this one. It's looking like a hardware issue, but I was wondering if anybody had any input on it.

I would send it back to tmobile, tell them about it and send her back, you might want to remove soff though
Its not new and I didn't buy it from T-mobile. I guess I can try sending it back to HTC though. I did call them and see if it was still under the 1 year. Thankfully the previous owner didn't register it. It's now registered under my name and I have a backup phone, so I guess I will do that. The charger port is loose and needs to be fixed anyway. I need your help guys. Been on here for years, rooted every phone I have ever owned (multiple carriers). Self taught through trial and error and reading threads on here. But I have now ran into an issue that I have never seen or heard of and cant seem to find something on here to help. A friend of mine has Verizon Galaxy S5 and recently had to replace it through the insurance plan he had on it from Verizon. He had been complaining for a while and has finally agreed to let me take a look and see if I can fix it. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING!!! (that I can think of). This is extremely frustrating. Below ill list the issues and things Ive tried.
Issues:
Operating system crashes
Rebooting on its own
Wont load up when turned on
Apps crashing
Battery wont last long
and general "Jankyness" haha (seriously though)
These issues are constant issues meaning all happen constantly throughout the day and night.
I have tried multiple factory resets through the settings and through stock recovery
Just tried using Odin to fix this aaaannndddd NNOOO GO!!! 8-O
i have used Odin many times, never seen it not work like this. If anyone has an explanation for this and a recommended solution that would be great!! Thanks all for reading this and hopefully I can help my friend.

if your friend's S5 is running OE1, you're out of luck:

Hello guys, i'm getting crazy about this because, after trying a lot of custom and some official roms i keep having this problem: when bluetooth is active wifi is slow and become useless many times, not every times tho, which makes me even more confused but i'm pretty sure i've made a right diagnose of the problem and it's BT and Wifi interfering...
It's logical to think this must be a hardware issue, specially if you havent experienced it, and i might even try it in another p8 i have (i havent tried yet because it needs a new screen)
As a user i just can't live without bluetooth, maybe some of you didnt noticed it but you also have this issue... i'm just almost all day using bluetooth audio.
In case you experienced this problem, can you suggest any solution ? i'm sure this has to be a repeated problem in many devices due to the similar frequency range BT and Wifi operates (congratulations to the ones who decided to make this standards this way)
In the moment i think every custom rom i tried had some little imperfection or issue and, right now my choice is EMUi 4.1, for me the most valuable thing is the feeling of the OS, the stability, fluidity, consistence, elegance of the interface, and i can have all that with this firmware despite this f***** problem which is a total red line for me. Of course i'd root and customize EMUI a little bit...
BTW... i seem to worried for a 7 years old phone that i just love to have in my hand but its supposed to be just a spare phone while my main one waits for a fix... well yes, i got excited, and frustrated, and excited again... but i guess i will have to accept this dramatic situation and fix my new phone asap.
Suggestion of any custom rom or general solution for this ? thank you guys
