Hi,
Everyone here, just got my new Galaxy Note 4 yesterday.
I have encountered this issue, the Note 4 will auto restart after not using it for a while, say 10 to 30 minutes it will auto restart. At first, I thought I was accidentally pressed the power button but I put it on my table not using it for a while it will auto restart.
Latest: I used the Note 4 to call my friend in the midst of the call, the phone auto restarted.
Till now, I still not yet install any program into the phone, still in its original condition.
Anyone here know what's wrong with my Note 4? or have experienced the similar problem in your other phone? How to solve it?
Could this hardware failure or software problem?
Thank you.

No problems here. I suggest you do a factory reset and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn't, one of the apps you installed is the culprit. If it does, I think you need a replacement.

Thank you for your replied and suggested help.
In fact, I did one time factory reset but after that the Note 4 still auto restarted.
When the phone was in my hand from the shop till now I did not install any program into it.
Anyone know why the phone will auto restart?
Thank you
Go back with your phone where you bought it and ask for a new one!
Maybe a faulty unit. It's their fault. You can plead a compensation tho'.

I am having the same issue, although I have installed some apps on my Note 4. Also, I tried uninstalling apps, and changed some settings. Every time it auto restarts, it reverts back to the settings from before, and shows all of the apps back on the device. I'm not sure what is going on with it, but it is extremely irritating. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm using the device or not. It's completely random.
Check to make sure your battery is seated properly (no loose contacts). Otherwise, it might be a faulty unit. A large batch of Nexus 7s had a similar issue and they all had to be sent in for a warranty repair.
after i removed my sd card and tested for 2 days no random restart and shutdowns.interesting.

Note 4 random rebooting
Greetings all,
I have had my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 for a little over a week and I absolutely love it except for the random reboots. The phone reboots randomly, often at at night while on the charger. That is really bad because everytime it does, it wakes me with the T-mobile jingle. I have started muting the audio at night to avoid being awakened by this but that means I cannt be reached by phone while it's muted. I have cleared the cache several times with no improvement and I have done a factory reset once and the problem persists. It seems entirely random. There was one day where I had no reboots. Most days it's a couple or so and one night it rebooted about 5 times durring the night wrecking my sleep. I do use an memory card and I just removed it today as a test. So far no reboots but it's only been a couple of hours so far. This is a significant problem and any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Likewise, I will post any progress I am able to make to this forum.
Thanks

I have the same problem, I do not have memory card inserted into the phone. It wakes me 3-4 times every night. The store sent it to a lab and they said that the phone is fine and does not have any problem. It drives me nuts.

Greetings again,
I returned my Note 4 to T-Mobile and got a brand new phone, and sim card. I have all my software loaded and configured as with the old Note 4 and it's been about 36 hours now with no reboot. If it doesn't happen in the next couple of days or so, I will probably be pretty confident that the problem is solved. I'll keep you updated.
OP, is it rooted? I have the unbranded Note 4 (SM-N910H), I've had mine rooted for 2 weeks and it kept randomly rebooting twice or so every 1-2 days, now I've removed the root and everything seems to be working fine with no reboots since 1 week. I hope this helps.
P.S. I've rooted using the CF Auto root.
Anyone knows why the root was causing random reboots for me? I've tried with knox disabled and enabled and with both options I get the same reboots.
Edit: Forgot to say that most of the random reboots happened while the phone was idle (screen off)
Thanks.
note 4 restarting
I have the same issue .. my note 4 is auto restarting... i use gear s all the time bu connecting it with note 4 via bluetooth and the phone randomly auto restarting .. yesrterday i didn't connect the gear s all the day and the phone works all the day fine and it didn't restart .. so i really don't know what is causing this problem ! Anyone can help?
Frustrating
I have a similar issue with the Note 4.
A few back, it randomly restarted and I lost half of my contacts and settings. I thought it was a one-off occurrence and re installed all my contacts and settings. Today, it kept restarting and hasn't started again. I called ATT and have asked for a replacement.
Hope the new one shapes up better than this. It sounds like there is a hardware defect in a lot of the phones.
Same here N910CQ, brand new one...
I have a weird problem with my note 4. It restarts itself 2-3 times but only at night. It starts at about 3, 4 am and then every hour or so until 7 am. I hear the buzz on every restart. Also my gear fit connects and disconnects every time with a vibration buzz. It drives me nuts!
Do you have the same problem?
I already tried a factory reset, also disabled the automatic sync to the servers. Also formatted the SD card inside the phone and tried to remove it completely but the phone still restarted at night.
I went to the Samsung center- they sent it to the lab and the lab said that the phone does not have any problem at all- but they did not check it at night.
I'm on the latest firmware N910FXXU1ANJ4
Can you help me? What could be the problem? what can I do???
If it happens again...get a video recorder..record the event...show it to samsung..demand a replacement. My device had no problems what so ever when it was completely stock, or after rooting or when using custom rom.

That is so odd...! What if you tried to video record the phone restarting and show it to the service centre? Maybe with a timestamp so you can stitch together the restarts and demonstrate what happens every night.

I will do what you suggest . I will record the phone on video and show them what it does. This is not normal if I'm the only one who have that problem.
Hope you can exchange a new one
I dont have that problem
I will sue them. This is the only way. Because they are like wall. not possible to prove that you are right
i have same issue but try to factory reset it. remove the sd card if you using one. and noticed it. i work evening shift thats why i noticed my phone boot itself . now after i factory reset o havent encounter any auto restart .

I don't think that there is a solution. There is something wrong with the phone because not all the units faulty. Tonight i will film the phone on video camera to prove it and sue the company. They refusing to refund my money because they claim that the phone does not have any problem.
I have got that issue, but it just turn off by itself while recharging at night
I'm having the same problem with my Moto X 2014. It reboots itself only at nights one or more times. I've trying everything without any success. Did you manage to fix yours?
Thanks!
Do you have any memory management software installed? Some of them kick in when phone is not used for longer time and maybe it deletes something what causes phone to reboot?

If it's only at night whilst charging, it could just be an overheat problem.

Got the same issue. And factory reseting didn't do anything. I also tried to reset using the 3 buttons but it just says downloading for more than an hour! I really don't want to send it back and go trough the whole hassle. I just want a fix. I got this phone yesterday and I can't enjoy it... it only freezes when on standby for some time. The only way I can get it to work is by using the 3 buttons just like they guy above...

The downloading screen is just a bootloader screen for flashing rom while odin. If you isn't flashing rom, you don't need to wait for it since the phone is doing nothing.
Got a reboot once on PAW FW. Nothing after.
Yep had one yesterday after using bbc iplayer, tried to go back into iplayer from multitasking and it froze then went black . .used the volume and power for 7 secs and everything came back on . .
Hoping this is just software. .
Mine is UK version and got it on the 8th . .
Read that the S6 had similar problems
Anyone have a fix for this or do I need to take it back to Verizon? I'm in the US and have the same issue. It has happened to me multiple times.
I get automatic reboots as well as full screen lockup for 7-10 minutes where it reboots itself. Both seem to occur when I'm trying to do something immediately after doing something else. Examples are when I hit send on a text/tweet and then pull down the task bar while it's in the process of sending the text/tweet or when rotating screen to look at a picture in landscape mode in Facebook and immediately tapping the center of the screen to get rid of the text on the screen.
This has now happened every day I've had the phone (Friday, Saturday, and now Sunday). It's getting quite old. Any help would be appreciated before I take my phone back to Verizon tomorrow.
I haven't had any freezing, but I did have my first random reboot after 4 days of ownership while listening to music with it plugged into an aux cable..

i experienced the same issue, freezing up, i reset my phone and someone told to me to install an optimizer to help my phone by freezing up
I got the phone for 2 weeks now, yesterday my volume down and power button is unresponsive, press the power button for a few seconds but it wont respond. I have to hold volume and power buttons and press until a few more seconds and ir restarts, after rebooting it works ok.
Anyone have an update to this thread? Has anyone gotten a fix for this? Or should I just send my phone back and get another? Thanks for any help.
Just had another freeze and shutdown . .doesn't reboot but requires me too use power on and volume keys for 7 seconds to restart phone. .really hope its a software problem ..seems to happen on multi tasking
same for Galaxy S6
i have the Galaxy S6 and i have the same probleme, my phone keep freezing and some time rebooting, i try the safe more but still freezing, i delete the new installed app with no luck.
some other wesite say this is an apps crash that make the phone freezing, but i don't know.
Don't worry, Samsung will fix this with an update. Only had 1 reboot and it was on PAW fw.. now that I'm on pb4 it haven't happened once.
I have a verizon S7 edge, and have had multiple reboots on the phone, with no consistent pattern. It has done it while sitting on the bed untouched/unused. It remounts the SD card every time this happens. I'm really stunned there is no word from Samsung about this issue
I have had the same issue. I worked with a Samsung support member who was helpful in attempting to troubleshoot and log the issue. I ran my phone in safe mode for a few hours in hopes that it may have been an app I downloaded causing the freezing issue but unfortunately the phone froze again while in safe mode. According to Samsung, my next step is to go to a Samsung Experience shop in a Best Buy and have them do a software flash. I'm heading there today and if its successful I'll be sure to post about it.
samsung s7 edge freezing
i have a samsung galaxy edge 7 and it just froze on me too the screen froze and non of the buttons worked for the rest either so i popped the sim card n it unfroze.
Hey, this is software problem. Dont take it back phones. Maybe chrome, messenger freeze phone. Just send feedback Samsung. Samsung will fix this with update. Its not phone problem. Easy guys...
Hi everyone!
So I just had this problem after I woke up yesterday. I googled a lot but only found similiar problems.
Let me tell you what happened chronologically:
After turning the phone on in the morning it started updating apps as if I was doing a firmware update: "updating apps 1 of 135" etc. Note that my nexus was already running on 5.1.1 and had the latest updates installed.
Now it randomly freezes the screen on whatever screen it was before it happens and it won't respond to any touch input. This can also happen when not using the phone, then it will freeze at the lockscreen (the time freezes with it so sometimes i can see at what time it froze). Also, it loses connection with Wi-Fi as i'm using Whatsapp Desktop when i'm on my laptop and it mentions me that my phone is not connected.
The only thing that "fixes" (temporarily) it is a reboot. Now sometimes, on the lockscreen, i can just hold the power button and the pop-up comes in to turn the phone of, which i can somehow just tap on an it responds by turning the phone off. But sometimes (less frequent than the latter mentioned) the pop-up doesn't come in and holding the power button for a few secs will do the trick.
I hope I informed you all enough and my end question is: does any of you know what this is? How i can fix it or what i can do to prevent it or anything as I am hopeless. (my G3 is up for reparation so this is my sisters old phone, i had a nexus 4 myself for 2 years before the G3).
Thanks in advance!!
The best way to test it is by reformat the OS.
I positively think that it will solve the problem.
Since the phone is no longer under warranty, I guess there is no harm to install custom rom on it. They are fast and stable too.
Hope this help. Good luck.

EXACT thing happened to me too. Backup your data and hard reset from recovery. This fixed it for me
Same problem here bro, but neither custom roms or factory reset helps.... Is there anyone who has successfully solved the problem ?

Guys I'm on the latest Nougat update on AT&T with the March update and the most annoying thing started happening out of nowhere... Wondering if y'all have ever seen this and have been able to stop?
Basically, during a call, my screen turns off after my screen timeout time, and within 5 seconds, the screen turns back on and keeps repeating ?...!
Here's what I've tried:
1. Calibrated and tested the proximity sensor.
2. Double checked with or without Smart Awake setting.
3. Cleared data of the in call UI app.
4. Rebooted.
5. Wiped OS Cache.
6. You tell me? ?
Thanks for all the help!
It's a Bug with the In-Call UI
My T-Mobile Galaxy S7 Edge has been experiencing the same issue. I tried everything including a factory reset to no avail. I believe it may have something to do with the In-Call UI system app associated with the Phone App. It only started happening after the 7.0 update and really makes using the phone to make a phone call unnecessarily frustrating. I am guessing more people have this but don't realize it because the screen will turn off if you navigate away from the In-Call UI to another app or to the home screen. It is a bug though and I hope Samsung deals with it in the next update.

Thank you so much for responding. Makes me feel better that I'm not crazy! ?
Can others test and confirm for us so we can maybe document and report to Samsung for a fix?
BTW for what it's worth, as a workaround, you can hit the home button to put the in call UI out of focus and then let the phone sleep, it stops the waking up. Down side of course, no proximity action and the nuisance of turning on, then bringing up UI to mute and unmute, very annoying on meetings for work! :crying:
Any others please test and report for us? Thanks you!

Reread, you already mentioned the workaround, sorry and thanks!
Now I am not sure if this will work for you but I've noticed that if I occasionally use the slide up gesture to launch Samsung pay (i.e. from the lock screen or home screen) and I back out of it, it keeps the problem at bay temporarily. I tried deactivating the slide up to activate feature of Samsung Pay and it didn't fix the issue. For now, this is my temporary work around. I hope it works for you too!

Extremely good observation and another workaround bud! You're right, it provides some relief with the Samsung Pay workaround. I can't believe we haven't heard more noise on this from others, we can't be the only two OCDs here !?
Thank you again and request to others to join us test and slay this problem, if possible!

@Trevozneoma - To build on your observation with Samsung Pay, I went into settings and have unchecked the option for using it via screen off. The lock screen and home screen are still checked, and this seems to have fixed my issue. It's not perfect, as I like to use the feature when using Samsung Pay, however, I will take this, over the battery drain and annoying nature of the screen on on the incall UI screen!
Thanks for your help!
@ProFragger we probably notice it because we use our phones...as phones haha. I will give the Samsung Pay work around a try. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hi Guys!
I too have this issue and I have a Samsung S7 Edge on Sprint.
As it was stated, this all started after the last update.
As I primarily use a BT headset with my calls, I have simply been hitting the Home Button and the phone will stay in the time out mode.
Just jumping on this band wagon in hopes that this issue will be resolved quickly!!
Thanks!!

Thanks for your report, bud... We need more of these to gain some momentum around this issue... Does the workaround for you?
The work around works, but it is just a PITA to have to keep hitting the home screen to put the call screen out of focus.
I really hope that Samsung will address this issue and fix it!!
Happens here also. Thanks for the workaround.

I hate this so much. It happens while I am on the phone and it happens when an appointment reminder pops up and then the screen goes black and then turns on, over and over. THIS ONLY STARTED HAPPENING AFTER I UPDATED FROM Marshmallow to Nougat.
Here is the FIX... Guessing anyone that has the issue has Samsung Pay with a card provisioned. Was reading through some other forums and found that this was the root cause. Everyone was deleting their cards to get the screen to work as expected. However, if you go into Samsung Pay --> Settings --> Use Favorite Cards, you can just disable the Screen Off option and all will be well once more. You will still be able to use your cards but will just have to turn on the phone first.
edit: Well [email protected] Worked great last night during testing and now back to turning the screen on again this morning. Going to try disabling all the options under Use Favorite Cards. If that doesn't work, will delete all my cards and try again.
Ant word on whether that worked?
Same issue for me as well (Verizon Galaxy S7 edge, 7.01). When I am on calls (usually have a headset plugged into the phone) the screen cycles on and off repeatedly. Seems to have started when I went to 7.0. So glad others are reporting the same thing as it is very annoying and hopefully something Samsung will fix in the next update. I will try the Samsung Pay fix and report back.
Same issue here, Galaxy S7 Edge on ATT. Noticed after Nougat update. It seems to be problematic across any dialer as I did try and had the same results using the hangout dialer. It does seem to be related to the Samsung Pay application. You can force stop Samsung Pay in applications and everything seems to work correctly. I have tried removing permissions from Samsung Pay and have had no luck. Will try and report to Samsung and Google directly also. Thank ya'll for sharing your info. hopefully they will have a fix soon.
I'm having the same issue on my S8. I thought i was somehow pressing my face against the screen and accidentally activating the "home button." Then I starting blaming one of my friends because it seemed like it only happened when I talked to people with iphones lol. I don't have or use Samsung Pay, so that can't be what's causing this problem. All I know is it's absolutely frustrating and making talking on the phone a complete headache. Hopefully they'll fix this soon.
Thank you all, I have the s8 and it has done this since I got it.
I don't have Samsung Pay installed at all, I use my Bank's pay app so disabled it. It can't be that but have no idea what it is. Driving me nuts, I keen putting people on hold, hanging up on them or at the least have the annoying vibration going off from pushing buttons. Hate hate hate it...
