[Q] Duelboot / Stock backup problem - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. Recently upgraded to a S5 G900F.
First thing I did was flash PhilZ CWM recovery using Odin, after failing miserably with Heimdall ( Kept throwing up a error that I can't remember off the top of my head ).
Created a backup of my stock ROM by going to " Backup and Restore " and " Backup to /sdcard "
Flashed cm-12-20150106-NIGHTLY-klte.zip, booted in, rebooted then flashed GGAPS.
Cut the backup file off my SD card onto my Desktop for safe keeping.
I recently learnt about duelbooting the S5, which I was completely unaware of at the time of flashing to CM12 ( If I did know, I wouldn't be here asking this ) I read into it and decided why the hell not, as CM12 is causing lots of " Music Player Stopped working ", Plex not working, Chrome not working, aswell as Bluetooth music in my car not working, which is what I generally use my phone for.
I know it's a Nightly. Which is why I'm not *****ing ( Had nightly's constantly installed on my S4 )
Now the problem is this:
I've come to set up duelboot on my phone, and went to where I stored my recovery on my PC, and it's not a ZIP file. I've looked online at several things, and I'm still at a complete loss on how to create a bootable .zip from the files I have.
Could I just use the UK H3G G900FXXU1ANE2_G900FH3G1AND4_H3G.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715487 instead of trying to create a .zip from my original backup files?

[Q] Almost bricked i9505g moving off CM10.2

Ok, so newb here, but I have been searching the xda boards for the last 24 hours, spent a lot of time in the i9505g dev sub forum, but I cannot post there. So this seemed like the next best place.
I am running a GPE S4, i9505g. A while back I flashed CM 10.1 on to it, the jfltexx version. This changed my build.prop file and all was working fine. However, I decided that I wanted to try out 4.4 direct from google, so I tried to flash different versions of the rom, OTA, 'cleaned up' stock roms, etc... none of them would flash via clockwork or twrp. They all failed due to the build.prop being changed to reflect the jfltexx instead of whatever existed before the CM10.1 flash. So, I used adb to load up a stock build.prop (I think). After that, I could not boot anywhere past recovery and had no adb access other than sideload. Somewhere late in the evening I finally found a glimmer of hope and got my CM10.1 build.prop back on the phone and reflashed 10.1 then updated to 10.2.
So now, I'm back to a working phone on CM10.2 but I would like to revert back to stock GPE android 4.3 then use OTA to get to 4.4... I cannot find any specific information on the i9505g which apparently is different than the regular i9505. I believe I made a nandroid backup of my original system when I originally flash CM10.1, but that was months ago and the PC I had then no longer exists, so I have no original backup.
Currently running TWRP, CM10.2, and I have Odin 3.07 on my pc. Can anyone help me figure out how to get back to factory stock on the i9505G?
EDIT/UPDATE: Huzzah! I may have finally found the original nandroid backup. It appears to be a full backup from Oct... I just can't remember if it as a stock backup or a CM10.1 backup. Either way, I may have that to use to get back to stock. Is there anyway to dig into the backup files and see what rom it is?
UPDATE 2: I made a copy of the system.tar.a file in my nandroid backup, renamed it to .tar, and opened it with 7zip. According to the build.prop file in that folder it is a jgedlte build, so that should be the stock nandroid, though it did say version 4.2.2, which I guess is better than nothing. Looks like I may be able to restore that nandroid to get the phone back to stock.
UPDATE 3: So, the original nandroid backup I found, appears to be corrupt. First CWM told me the MD5 checksum didn't match. So I used md5sum to regenerate the nandroid.md5 file. (md5sum *img > nandroid.md5) When I tried to apply it, CWM reports: Error while restoring /system!
So, I restored the nandroid backup I made of CM10.2 today and now it boots into CWM 6.0.4.7 continuously. Going to flash TWRP over CWMR and see if it will boot into the os. :/
Thanks,
freakypenguin
Fixed it all up finally. Found a 4.4.2 odin tar, full image, was able to push that out via odin and the phone booted write up.

[Q] Unable to restore using Twrp or Cwm

Need some help guys. Havent been on here in some time. So I have the Telus variant s4. I updated to the ota kitkat when it launched but found that the battery life was terrible after the update. I thought I'd try out a couple custom r8ms and see if I found a better result in battery life. I rooted the phone and decided to try gummy 4.4.2. Prior to that I installed twrp recovery which I have used with other phones in the past, which I used to dona backup of the stock rom in case something went wrong. I then flashed the rom no issues and played with it for a couple hours. I didnt like it much and decided to restore using my backup. Twrp would not do the restore, when I selected the file and dragged the slider Twrp would just reboot. I tried a bunch of times with the same results. Ni downloaded and tried Cwm but that wouldn't even recognize the backup file. I read somewhere that I could use mobile Odin which would recognize the file if I renamed it to recovery.tar. Tried that and it didnt work. Now Twrp wont recognize the renamed file and dont remember the original name. The phone works with the gummy build but I want to get the stock or something close to it. I also noticed that when I poweres if off to charge it says kernel is not seandroid enforcing. Set warranty bit kernel. I need some help here. I havent a clue what I should try next. Ive been reading all night till 4am couldn't come with anything. Help!
It sounds like the twrp nandroid was corrupted. Fyi, it's a zip file so if you rename the tar to zip twrp should recognize it. Twrp and cwm nandroids are not compatible so a nandroid made in one will not work in the other.
At this point I would make a nandroid of your current rom in twrp and restore it just to confirm you have twrp working correctly. Then I'm afraid you're going to have to recreate your stock from scratch.

[Q] CWM disapeared, boot loop, only have access to android system recovery

Hi guys
(SM-N9005)
So yesterday I had liquid smooth rom installed for the past month or so (I have been trying a variety of roms for the last year or so) and I was getting some bugs occuring and decided to put a new rom on.
I booted into recovery, did the normal backup, factory restore, clear cache and dalvik, installed the rom and restarted my phone. It then went into a boot loop.
At this point I assumed it was no biggy, so I just went back to recovery and chose to restore with the backup... except it wouldnt. it couldnt recognise the file it had just made.
So I then coppied some previous backups to the external micro sd, stuck the micro sd card in, booted in recovery and tried to recover with them... couldnt recognise them.
I also noticed that when trying to reboot, it came up saying that I didn't have root access... even though I certainly have for the past year.
I tried flashing an updated version of superuser as that was the suggested method on some forum - didnt help the situation.
Now when my phone boot loops, it goes straight to android system recovery <3e> and nolonger have access to CWM
No idea what to do, and my uni work greatly depends on me having access to my phone :/
Any help would be greatly appreciated
my baseband version is LRX21V.N9005XXUGBOB6
i got some problem ... it freak me oute but i founnd how to back my stock firmware backk
you shoud find your firmware ... it can be downloaded from sammobile.
and flash tar.md5 file via ONDIN.
good luck!

Help - i9505 unable to restore from CWM backup in Lollipop

Hi all, I've got a stock i9505, rooted, with Philz Touch recovery & Lollipop (I9505XXUHOB7_I9505BTUHOB4_BTU).
I made a (no errors reported) backup & loaded up Resurection Remix ROM (Resurrection-Remix-LP-v5.5.3-20150804-jfltexx) and GApps (gapps-lp-20141109-signed) and all seemed OK.
I then decided to go back to Lollipop & thats when things started falling apart - I did what seemed a successful restore from the backup but when it rebooted, it initially gave the error 'Inconsistent System UID' and about fixing permissions so I flashed TWRP & fixed permissions & went back to Pilz & tried another restore but ever since, it went into a boot loop (I think - I'm a bit new at this) at the point where the Samsung logo is still up & the stars are pinging out. Never moves on from this.
I then thought I'd take it back to stock & re-flashed Lollipop, did the root & reloaded Philz Touch & tried another restore - same thing.
I then tried CWM to see if that would do a decent restore but still no joy.
I wonder if my backup has been corrupted?
I can get it up & running but I'd like to be able to access all my backed up data etc.
I'm not knowledgeable enough to to a custom restore (in Philz) as I'm not sure what to restore & what to leave!
Can anyone help?
Kind regards,
Nic

You can always copy the backup to your computer and extract the files you need.

Thanks for the reply Lennyz - I have copied the backup to my PC but when I try to extract or look at any of the .tar files, they all say they are unknown format or damaged (hence my thought on perhaps the backup is corrupt?)
That's assuming that I can use Winzip or similar to look inside the .tar files?
Aah, out of the 3 data ext.tar files, I can only extract stuff from one of them (and that still comes up with a message about unexpected end of archive?

Note 4 N910VVRU2BOG5 stuck on android system recovery 3e

hi yesterday i was trying to install a custom rom but because im new in this kind of stuff i did something wrong so all in detail:
first i rooted my phone and downloaded rom of resurrection (nougat) and downloaded the opengapp
Then downloaded the official twrp from play store and that's where i did wrong
i opened the twrp and even though i didn't really know how to use it i tried to do stuff on my own without any idea i dont really remember what i did but i clicked on twrp flash and chose my device and downloaded both .tar and .img files both downloaded successfuly
after installing files i clicked on reboot from menu and there was boot system and boot recovery i dont remember which one i clicked exactly but probably the system one so the phone turned off
and the Android system recovery 3e came up where at the bottom it says dm-veriety vertification failed and i tried to reboot system now and tried all the stuff on this screenapplying update from ADB and external storage is disabled and from cache is deprecated
so i found some stuff online about odin and how to install with it tried but it gave error complete(write) failed
i didn't open the USB debugging i dont know if the odin problem occurs because of that
i know i should have watched how to use twrp properly but i didnt
i know the whole thing is messy but please someone help me
