Knox Void - Sent for service and samsung did an excellent job - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 General

request for an RMA Tab Pro 12.2 due flickering issue.
my tab is knox tripped. i even erased everything, no OS installed. they received Jan 8 and they send it Jan 9. just got it now and it was loaded with US version
so, don't worry about knox tripped. good job Samsung!

You are very lucky. I was denied warranty on my S4 due to Knox.

I've requested few times for hardware issues even Knox being tripped, and they honored my warranty repair/replace. It seems like Knox trip doesn't really matter if its related faulty hardware.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app

Headphone jack failed on my 10.1. Knox is tripped, but it was repaired, no charge.

for materiel they need to honor warranty ... but know is o security of data ... so i dont need

Was Knox reset 0x0? If so, is it possible to learn from the repair guys how they did it?

Yup lucky... They reject my s4 Knox tripped too. Now my tab stays Knox 0x0 ahah

[Q] [POLL] Not rooting because of Knox

This is the most expensive phone(almost $900 AUD) I bought an I've never needed warranty before, but because of the Knox issue I'm afraid to root it and lose my 2 year manufacturer warranty.
Would you root your phone if there was no Knox counter?

Oh my god those spammers. ^
Just use Root de la Vega, I rooted and am on KNOX 0x0.
Nothing stopped me from Rooting. But flashing a custom recovery is another case, if that is what you meant.

Tempted to try that, but seeing a couple people trip the knox counter. I might wait a couple weeks before I try though. Coming from a Nexus 4, touchwiz doesn't seem that bad, so wouldn't really care about custom roms at the moment. Though rooting to get adblock and GMD gesture would be my main reasons.

I rooted my device and triggered the Knox counter so my warranty is void. I could care less as I want full control over my device and find manufacturers always hinder the device limitations. As for Knox... I'm sure someone will soon come out with a patch you can run to reset the counter. Unfortunately, I did not buy insurance with my device as I was ROOTING to use on another carrier but yeah, I would just go for it.

If I have knox bootloader can I...?

If I have knox bootloader can I:-
1) Root my device?
2) Flash different modem?
3) Flash any CM or AOSP ROM?
4) Flash any custom recovery?
I want these things to be clear for me.
Thanks.

Yes to all. Except 3 some ppl have trouble flashing different modems.

yeah there area ways to still do that stuff but it'll flag it, so that voids your warranty

I don't care about warranty.
I care about my freedom to choose modems and roms and edit my system as I want.
But I see Google android and Samsung in their way to loose more users by their new jails.

yea
supposedly knox was for making the Galaxy an enterprise level security phone. so WTF is the warranty flag all about? right?

Well, the knox warranty flag has nothing to do with the phone's warranty. It's purpose is to signal to the knox container that the phone has been tampered with and is no longer able to provide the required security to the phone. Now, since there is no way to reset it like we could 0 out the flash counter with triangle away, it can also allow Samsung to see that your rooted or tampered with your phone so they can deny you warranty service. I haven't seen one post from someone that has been denied warranty service after tripping the knox warranty flag, we just all assume this will be the case since rooting your phone violates your warranty.

No, the Knox warranty flag has nothing to do with the phone's warranty only knox's warranty. The later statements were just the way it is. Samsung has never said your phone's warranty is invalid if the Knox warranty flag is tripped. But, if you read their warranty, it does say if you tampered with your phone than your warranty may be void. So, yes, you can infer that a tripped Knox warranty flag also means your warranty is void.

So... Where's this Knox thing??

Hey all,
I have an s5 on EE in the UK.
Heard about this Knox security software. It shows in my list of installed apps yet I can't seem to locate where it is?
Also debating root... Not sure if it's worth it, but did want to have a look at Knox.
Thanks

knox is a security implemented by samsung, it is active in the background, has no app for that. basically it "protects" samsung warranty better than the triangle in download mode witch shows how many imes you flashed, if you had roted ur device, in download mode will show u have 0x1 warranty voided.<---- thats basically KNOX.

I check my insurance which I took out for my phone when I got it. They state that modifying or rooting will make my insurance void. How annoying. Is there some legality involved?
Thanks!

No. ^
KNOX is a security container -> a place where you install apps inside a secure container that cannot be tampered with on a high level TrustZone security algorithm.
It's great that the person above said what it essentially does to your device, but what he explained above is what happens when the TrustZone between the software and the hardware is breached during root/downgrade/unsigned flashing. This essentially would allow the viewer of the KNOX status to know when the device does not trust it's own body with secure enterprise level apps (Application Integrity), hence the KNOX warranty bit will be set from 0x0 to 0x1 meaning "I will not ever run a secure container anymore".
You won't find KNOX 2.0 on your device as this is now a paid service for enterprises at a rate of $3.60 and it is only set up on your device when you have the KNOX 2.0 kit deployed on your device, unlike KNOX 1.0 where you get to enter KNOX mode anytime you want.

[Q] What are the effects of a tripped KNOX on a Galaxy S5

Hello community,
I have a Canadian Galaxy S5(SMG900W8 - kltecan) with Rogers, currently running Lolipop 5.0 with the LRX21T.G900W8VLU1BOC1 build. I have it since 8 months and I'm beginning to be really tired of Samsung's bloated OS, sometimes it gets sooo slow and the phone becomes so hot. I know how to keep good care of my system and did many clean restores but it still gets slow after some weeks.
I want to install Cyanogenmod or something similar to completely get rid of the stock ROM, I know doing that will trigger the KNOX flag and I know it voids the warranty but I'm at a point I dont care about it anymore, my question is. In what other way will a tripped KNOX affecr my phone? For example if I ever flash back the stock firmware, will I still be able to use the features such as "Private Mode" and the Fingerprint scanner? Because those are some features I really like and care about. And also if I ever resell it, I want every stock feature to be functional...
What do you guys know by experience?
Ive read many KNOX threads before posting this one, it answers some stuff but not my exact question.
Thanks in advance!
..bump...
Tripping KNOX = void warranty in some places
Other than that, fingerprint and private mode still work fine on my S5 with KNOX 0x1 tripped
Not noticed anything not working

Are you sure? Because I tought the whole KNOX software side in the phone was related to all the advanced security features like encryption, fingerprint, private mode etc... Isn't the private mode in the KNOX container?

Am I sure? I just told you it works fine on my S5, yea pretty sure lol
Tripping KNOX just switches the KNOX notification from 0x0 to 0x1 so Samsung can see it's been modified an don't have to honour warranty
I've heard it breaks domain/business related stuff, but I don't use my S5 in a business environment so can't comment on that, but for myself, everything still works exactly like it did with 0x0

Root without tripping knox is possible if a Engineering Bootloader surfaces.
But I'm not sure whether even it can retain the 0x0 for a longer time.
No the system scans for any abnormalities in the system and if it senses any changes boom knox tripped
It's extremely unlikely we will get root without tripping knox and like @Ausboy 2011 said, the system will trip knox if it detects any system modifications. Something as simnple as installing a root app could trip knox in this case.
They released an engineering bootloader for the galaxy S6 Edge. So it IS possible. We just need to wait for that time to come. With the engineering bootloader you can modify anything on the system without tripping knox. You just need to flash EVERYTHING back to stock at the same time if you chose to remove said bootloader. Also, I know in the beginning phases of use of this engineering bootloader they lost use of their fingerprint reader. So there's always that possibility too. But we'll just have to see if/when that time comes.

This actually varies depending on your location. For instance, in Europe, tripping knox will NOT void warranty. It is against EU law to refuse a hardware repair just because the software has been modified.

That's true, but most places don't care, as they just send it to Samsung and they deny warranty repair because of tripped knox. You can of course get the repair if you take the fight up.. But really, who want to? I sued the place where I bought my S6, because they would not repair a KNOWN HARDWARE failure on the S6 (pink dots on front camera) after I had rooted my phone. They sent it to Samsung and they denied. By law they should pay the repair then.
I was told I was right by Danish Customer Service, but they needed my phone for like 7-8 months and I did not have my S7 Edge there, so I would be without a phone, so I called it.. For really, what could I win? I knew I would upgrade when the S7 came out anyway.

Here in the UK, Samsung will repair even if Knox is tripped. I have had a few repairs over the years and have always had tripped Knox. Some other UK users on here have confirmed the same.
Well that's nice. Sure they're are aware Knox was tripped? Because I was an idiot back then, I sent my phone in with a custom ROM, så they could not enter the binary, which was the reason they saw Knox was tripped.. When I said I would flash stock firmware, they said that was not possible without replacing something inside (the motherboard I think).

A Samsung rep in one of the repair stores told me that it doesn't matter if it has a tripped Knox as long as we put the stock firmware on the phone and it is NOT rooted. If it's rooted they will refuse.
However, I have known people to get the repair even when rooted.
